@BackOfTheCAGE
Dear Charlie and fellow members of the NCLOA,

I am very sorry to bother all of you with this. However, I just felt the need to do something and try and lend a hand.

This past Friday, on March 18, 2016, one of my current students and former lacrosse player at Copiague High School was tragically shot and killed by his friend. Supposedly the death was deemed an accident. Charlie, as you know, I was a Varsity Lacrosse Coach at Copiague High School for 13 years and I still currently teach there. The community is multi-cultural and the lacrosse players there do not have the backing and support as most high school players across Long Island. The boy`s mother was a single mother and he was her only child. She would come and visit me every Parent/Teacher Night to make sure her young boy was doing the "right thing."

Unfortunately, the mother does not have enough money to bury her son and a "go fund me" page was developed to help her pay for the funeral services.

Any help the Association can do or if any of you would like to donate even just a little, it would be much appreciated in the small town of Copiague.

Please even just click on the following page and see him and his mom. https://dm2.gofund.me/xbv9bkwk

Thanks guys, and remember to hug your loved ones today. Life is too short!

Best,
Kenny Berry
Proud member of the NCLOA

How is the mom? I hope she has family holding her up.

It was very kind of you to help her.
The mom is being strong. She is getting much support at the moment but I'm sure it's going to be real tough when things settle and she is in the house alone.

Thank you Larry and your help is much appreciated!

I can't even imagine her pain. With friends like you and all oh these people coming together at least she can properly bury her only child.
A big thank you to Back of the Cage and Coach Berry for doing this. It shows that the people on this forum are much more than a bunch of people trying to push their agenda and their kid's teams, but a caring group of Lax families who pull together to help each other out.
Definitely puts life into perspective... Life is more than just bragging or critiquing or criticizing each other's YOUTH lacrosse travel teams on a hot summer afternoon. When we're under our team tents, we should take a moment and just be thankful for everything you have and not worry about getting a scholarship to Duke. With the amount of money we pay in travel lacrosse and all the extra trainings, we could have just paid the tuition at Duke anyway!
Cheers to all the people who helped this poor Copiague mom!
