Sorry, but I doubt that. I am also of the opinion that neither lacrosse or soccer will offer a pro career where a living can be earned...basketball, football, and at Duke, golf will bring serious moola....my 2 cents.

Here are some common myths about college recruiting. It's a changing process, and the more you know the better chance you have of achieving your goals.

RECRUITING MYTHS
1. If you are college material coaches will find you.

There are 166,000 high school boys playing lacrosse throughout the country. A coach is looking for five or six players each year to fill in his roster. He has limited time and a limited travel budget. Your chances of being found among the 166,000 are slim at best.

2. You need to wait until official recruiting period begins at the start of your junior year.

Wrong! 31% of lacrosse players commit before the official recruiting period even begins!! In fact, rising sophomores (freshmen) are committing to college programs so preparing for college cannot begin too early. A recent article in the New [lacrosse] Times was headlined "Committed to College and Then Started 9th Grade."

3. By the time you are a rising senior it is too late to get recruited.

69% of commitments are made between the junior and senior years. Many schools will recruit rising seniors to fill in unexpected gaps or among players who are late bloomers or missed in the process. While your chances at a top D1 school go down by the time you're a senior, it is never too late to be recruited. Our own survey of Blue Chip 225 Rising Senior attendees found that over 90% reported at least one college inquiry as a result of attending Blue Chip 225

4. Aim high! That's where the money is.

The talk in any high school locker room is about the top D1 schools kids are going to get into. UNC, Virginia, Hopkins, SU, and so on are every players dream schools. They have big time scholarship money.

The math is easy - there are 41,000 players in each graduating high school class and maybe 400 scholarship equivalents at all the D1 schools (some you've not likely even heard of). The odds of receiving ANY funding from ANY D1 school are 0.89% - less than 1 in a 100) - The average award in lacrosse is about $6,000. In all sports only 3.7% of high school players even make the team. Unless you are among the national elite players , at least include a wide range of D1 and other division schools in your target list. Dream high and plan wide.

4. I know a bunch of people who got full rides for lacrosse.

Football and basketball are head count sports where each scholarship is given to an individual for college. Lacrosse is an "equivalency" sport which means that the 12.9 scholarships for D1 and 10.8 for D2 are turned into dollars and awarded in pieces among athletes. In this way an athlete may receive partial tuition, or books, or any dollar amount so long as the total disbursed does not exceed typical expenses times the number of scholarships allowed for that division. Not all programs are fully funded which means that a given school may allocate only a portion of the maximum funding to the program which further limits the funding to be spread among the players in the four college classes.

5. Grades don't matter if you're a recruited athlete.

Quite the contrary. While being a recruited athlete is likely to get you some favorable treatment at the admissions office, NCAA regulations and the standards of colleges are likely to set minimum standards you must meet to be admitted no matter how strongly you are being recruited. Further, a coach assesses the likelihood of your remaining eligible academically, so the athlete with the stronger academic record is going to get the nod over one with lower grades or standardized test scores.

6. Someone can get me recruited. My coach will get me recruited. I filled out the prospective student questionnaire that's enough. I got emails from coaches indicating interest. I was invited to college camp.

All these statements are good indications of interest by colleges and you should welcome them. BUT! During the course of a year a coach may email hundreds of players, invite many players to camp, respond to a vast number of questionnaires... and that is exciting but all it means is that you are noticed. Until you receive a direct offer from a coach you can drop off the recruiting roster in a moment and the coach is not likely to notify you of this. The simple reality is that is up to you to market yourself to the schools you want to attend. No one, and I mean NO ONE, cares as much as you do about this next step in your life!

Is this the same Showcase as the Blue Chip 225? That has a registration process with your coach recommendation needed.

Jake Reed is also called Blue Chip.

Several Showcase dates are coming up. How do you know, besides conflicts with your club team playing dates, which ones to attend and which ones to skip????

No Jake Reed Blue Chip direct invites to be had this year for 2019. Only way in is through 3d Blue Chip in Fla two weeks from now. Play in for July camp.

Know what your son is pursuing!
Extremely difficult to make any level college roster. Older son is a Freshman at a decent D3 program (very good school) He started lax in 1st grade. Nearly 60 kids playing. We're in an average lax town. 11 kids made it to senior year. 4 started 3 more played and 4 others never saw the field on 10+ win team last season. A grand total of 3 boys are now playing in college, all D3. When you finally get to school, the college coach who said they don't cut recruits, he cut 4 of them in fall ball. Now you've made the team, your 18 years old and competing for playing time against men 20-22 years old. (time to get over the age thing). Morals of the story: Make sure your son likes the school. Don't go to school to play lax. It's not easy to get on any college roster at any level. Average day: Meeting, practice, lift. Back to your dorm 4 hours later. 6 days a week.(did I mention this is the commitment at D3?) Be prepared to shovel the field for practice. You better love it, cause it's really hard!

Jake Reed and Blue Chip are generally considered the best 2 camps around. Invites for both have gone out. There are many ways to be seen. Certain tournamnets have individual showcases. Narrow down the schools that your son is interested in and see if they have a camp or will be at a particular showcase. it takes some work.

My kid is in 8th grade. Going to fla next week. Do we have to begin the "work" as you put it now? Can it wait another year??

anybody know anything good, bad, or ugly about this showcase process? just another way of parting you from your money or legit tool for college coaches to get an early bead on potential players? specific info related to the 3d blue chip showcase coming up next week if anybody has been there?

Same question, what is supposed to come outta this for an 8th grader, beyond wowing the evaluators? Can something be gained if not selected to Jake Reed? Does it " get your kid's name out there" as was alluded for selling point? (Watching SuperBowl in Fla at poolside at a resort was our selling point) or is it a dead end with his vitals and performance in a trash bin come March. Any insight appreciated.

What works for one person regarding recruiting may not work for another. JR was extremely helpful for my older son. The above is true for club team as well - my older son did not get any support from his club but his high school coach was critical. I am sure that many clubs have supported their players. I have friends that swear by their club coaches. IMO you need to continue try different avenues until you find the the right gatekeeper (person that can get you in front of the coaches of the schools you care about) but ultimately you need to be proactive and positive for your son. We shot for the moon (regarding college commitment) and many thought were we not realistic but it came together and we are happy. We will try and do the same steps for my 2019 but his path might be completely different. Maybe club will be critical and school will not help - we will see how it plays and be as supportive as possible.....

Blue Chip 225 is NOT the 3D Blue Chip camp that is being discussed.

anyone go to Blue Chip and see what the landscape of holdbacks are. I know this coming weekend is the weekend for Li but Since this weekend was closed out not sure who may have taken advantage of the other "Open weak".

Anyone know how this Jake Reed thing works? I was told that depending on the player's performance this weekend, invitatoons would then go out for the July Camp at UMass.... I understand that some invitations have already been sent to players. How is this? Just a money scam? How can they invite players that have not yet been enauated? The big weekends were the one after 1/1 and MLK weekend. My son was there the weekend after 1/1 and the competition was very good. Fighting Clams, Tomahawks, Laxachussetts, 91, Express, Dukes, Mesa Fresh, FCA, Breakers, 3d from everywhere and good kids from all over the south. It was a great weekend.

Regarding JR Camp which is coming up this weekend:

Long Island players are considered Mid-Atlantic according to JR. That is why my son is going this weekend. I did view the website and saw several of the LI players 2018 and above were listed as North East Region players but they play for HS on Long Island.

When we registered, I was told my son could attend any weekend if there was room for him.

I was told that invitations would be extended for the July camp to the 2019 players who had a good tryout this weekend.

Until I hear otherwise, I have to believe that some of the players who try out this weekend will get an invitation.

How would I even know if a player from this weekends group was selected? Unless it was a player I knew personally, I will never know.

The confusion is due to the other Blue chip camp 225. Invitations went out for that this week. Totally separate thing.

Back up to the blue chip 225 camp having 2 levels for 2019. How is it determined which level a player is in If they have not yet been evaluated?

Its a trick to get your kid with weaker players the Mid-Atlantic has the best kids mostly 91 Extreme and Orange kids. Northeast has weaker players.

My kid has did nothing for 2 years, we got an invite to 225. all about $$$$$

Almost all of the 3D kids my legit 2019 played with and against were holdbacks - do the recruiting talk that is part of this...the 3D folks openly encourage you to hold back.

Coming from LI, did you feel your son was as good, if not better, than the holdback players?

Are you familiar with any other players who attended during your session and if so, how did they compare on the field?

Recognized some of the players, not all. Plenty of players from CT / LI / NY...plus MANY from Ohio, Georgia, PA.
If my son doesnt make it, it isnt because of the holdbacks - many bigger kids, good athletes, but just don't have the lacrosse skills (3D team kids) as many others - that was VERY evident if the evaluators were paying attention.
They said around 3/1 for notifications either way.
Very curious what % of the invites goto 3d program kids versus non 3d kids.
In short, having attended arguably the largest session (1st one), I wasn't blown away by the skills on the field. Anyone from a good club team up here should represent very well.

From what I have been seeing on the fields, our 2019 LI players are athletes who are very skilled with great lax IQ plus they are tough and they all believe in playing their best game all the time. I too, am interested to see the % of invites sent out to the masses vs. 3d affiliated players.

We, as parents, are using this experience as a teaching weekend for our son. He will get a real look at what the rest of the country has to offer as far as competitive lax players who are all interested in playing in college. We hope that he realizes he will need to hit the books harder, all year round to maintain excellent grades. Playing, training and practicing are never an issue.

We can only support him on this journey called lax recruiting. It will be up to him to perform on the field and in the classroom. Once he is committed to this, he will be unstoppable. He has the resources: top tier club, coaches, trainers and a great HS. As parents, we are teaching him that lax is a vehicle to get him into a school which he may not have thought about attending.

Throw in lacrosserecruits.com being the clearing house for JR direct viewing videos for a premium and you've got a 3 pronged attack to separate parents from their dollars for 2 solid years up until Fall Junior year when NCAA mandated cloak of silence is lifted only to find out Big Time Lacrosse U never had any interest in Little Johnny in the first place. Instead of trying to buy his way into JR with all this nonsense, spend that money attending select prospect camps at schools that are academically and athletically in reach. It's all a well orchestrated plan to capitalize on parents' and players' insecurities with LR "shout outs" and "spray and pray" prophecies all designed to profit from the growth of a sport that is and will be non-revenue generating for colleges. Just my .02 from experience.

As one of the 2019 parents heading down to 3d tomorrow, I will be watching, listening and learning about all that 3d has to say regarding our sons having an opportunity to play for a college.

I will take into consideration all of the points you made regarding 3d keeping parents on the hook for 2+ years, waiting for some kind of a return on our investment, only to find out that "Oswald" was not even on the radar of a school we thought was interested.

8-10 is generous. Not taking away from our talent , most of our 2019's are actual 2001 and maybe late 2000's. No one really overpowering. Just being realistic.

You have 2000's who are 2019? Is that possible? Then your ears are going to start bleeding when you hear the 3D guys openly encourage to reclassify your kid.

So what your alluding to is the over powering kids would be the hold back with early 2000 DOB's. Enjoy boys! it is a bumpy ride.

The LI 2019's who are at 3d are ALL considered to be great players for their positions. They are true athletes who play multiple sports. In addition, they are ALL bright students who happen to be growing up to be fine young men.

Our Strong Island 2019's are all very good players. Every time one of our teams are in a tourney, the opposition gears up to play hard.

That is great for our boys. They have our financial support which gives them inroads to great trainers and coaches. As I see it, LI has not seen the need to jump on the holdback train.

I am sure we will hear all about the competition when they return. Remember, it is 2019, 18, 17 and 2016 there playing this weekend. The 2016's and 17's have a lot at stake. I believe our 2019's will be able to hold their own.

GREAT for them when they do. Knowing they did it without cheating and still having so much time to become great players. They are only in the 8th grade.

There are more than (13) LI 2019 players at 3d. Those are the boys I do know. However, I am familiar with the ones I don't know personally, all good, strong, solid players who are stars on their school and club teams.

We have nothing to worry about. Our 8th grade boys are skilled and well trained. They do not have to be the biggest to be the best.

They will all come away from this weekend more aware of what they need to do to keep on top.

That my friend, is priceless. Every penny spent on this weekend will come back ten fold if they all come back and challenge themselves to be better players and great students.

It is too soon to worry about DI vs. DIII yet. They are wearing braces, discovering girls and still like mom and dad.

I wish all of them well. A healthy rest of the winter and a quick end to the cold so we can go out and watch them all play.

Eye opening how many great 8th graders are out there. Really quick, strong, fast, SMART lacrosse players who are not from LI.

If a player gets I ker for the Jake Reed camp in July- then what? Is there also a team?

From what was said at the camp, 2019's should not worry about getting looked at by college coaches at this point. They should play, practice, train and keep healthy.

They told us only a few invites will be extended to 2019's. The teams were fairly balanced. Plenty of offensive drills all weekend and plenty of goals attempted. Many made, many saved.

Invitations are said to come out March 1st.

My son is there to witness what he will be up against in the future. He is playing with the best. The game is quick, fast, and the boys are flying up and down the field passing and shooting. Every game is college paced.

The boys are getting a work out and they are mentally exhausted.

All good things. Playing lacrosse on a high level everyday is demanding. He is learning that now and it will remain with him, especially because HE WANTS to be the best, every game. He has found out that it is hard to be the best every game when every player on your team also wants to be the best.

He told me he has work to do when he comes home.

That was the best thing he could have said to me. It made the entire weekend worth it.

I'm from NYC, I would like to see the 2019 teams from Team 91, Long Island Express and Long Island Express Westchester play a team like Madlax if they are that good. I've watched the NY-based teams play a few times and all three have unbelievable talent for 13 year olds. I would like to watch a team that plays at a higher level, beautiful game when played right.

Not that the club directors would ever let it happen, but to have the three teams mentioned above along with Crabs, Dukes and Madlax in the same tournament would be great. It would truly showcase how much talent is spread across these clubs at 2019.

My son was on the team that won all 4 games they played and it was some of the best lacrosse I've seen at this age. Coaching was great and all kids had plenty of playing time. What a great experience for all these boys.

2019 What is your districts policy on bringing up MS players for HS lax. How do you find out what the policy is? What is typically the hardest part of being moved up. What do the rigors of the test truly prove. Especially for a goalie.

Are there any exemption to taking the test.

If the varsity coach needs/wants him to be on the team, he'll make it happen

there are 2 tests for a MS player playing up, a physical test for JV play and another for Varsity. The difference being time on run and possibly pullups, not 100% sure. The test for Varsity is only taken if the times/results when the JV test results didn't qualify the athlete for Varsity play. There shouldn't be any expemption. I think bringing an athlete up is at the discretion of the coaches. In lacrosse I think the Speed of the game is the biggest adjustment as well as playing vs. 16+yr old players as a 13/14 year old. you can have a big 8th grader move up, but they aren't nearly filled out as a 16+yr old. physicality and speed hardest part.

My son was asked to play up as a goalie. There was no test that I know of. He had been playing up as long as I could remember so it was almost natural for him those were his lax friends. I wouldn't allow him to go to varsity. Because I thought it would be best to play w his friends and for playing time. The worst part of it all was the diagram they gave us to describe what stage of puberty he was at. They had several pictures of a boys/mans privates and we had to check off what stage he was at. Honestly at that time I hadn't seen his in quite some time so I lied. I really thought it was the strangest piece of paper I ever filled out
I do recall he had a few physical test he needed to take like a mile run so many pull ups push ups if he failed he could keep taking until he passed. They were not very rigorous from what I recall.

A lot more than just a run and pull ups. Its mile run, shuttle run, arm hang, broad jump and the tanner puberty chart. Our district will not pull a player up from middle school unless they play varsity not just JV.

In NY it is called selection classification. Your school's website should have info on it. If not, contact the AD. In our district the deadline is this week.

It may have been "Orange Crush" VERY VERY different team than team 91 2020 Crush, definitely did not beat 2020 91 crush.

Im positive they played at 8:50 it says on crabs website and they beat Crabs 8-4.

My son was very happy to SEE the video. To watch the film of the games was very valuable for him.

The level of competition was great. The speed of the game was fast paced. The pressure was on all the time.

He was able to see exactly what he did throughout the games. He told us he will make adjustments based on what he saw.

In addition, the quality of the video was terrific. Professional camera guys who understand the game of lacrosse were the men who were filming.

Having paid for "professional" lax video before, this one was far more superior.

As far as price, check around, they charged the going rate.

It was worth it for my son.

Was anyone concerned with the 3D administration & staff pushing for reclassification? Telling all us parents that we are putting our kids at a disadvantage? Was very taken back. I know it's done often but I thought it was not looked upon in a good way by professionals.

Buckle in, it only goes down hill from here. Wait till this fall when all the parents make their final decision to hold back for school in September. If your son will be doing any recruiting venues this fall, be prepared for him to be playing against kids 1-2 years older. It's beyond out of control now.

LMAO my son would quit playing lacrosse if I made him repeat the 8th grade. Since he started playing in the 3rd grade the focus has always been on academics which in turn has produced a straight A student. He has also achieved on the field. My advice to my son has always been that he will go to a very good college because of his grades and if he is able to play lacrosse there that would be a nice perk. We live on Long Island where the reclassification game is not as big as it is in other parts of the country. Have a nice day.

Are they Professionals?
Did they go to medical school, engineering, etc? The answer is No, and they're only lax people. There's a bigger life out there than 3D.

They are all salesman don't listen to them..if everyone did it the private schools would make a fortune !!

Furthermore- if everyone did it- it would cancel out the effect of reclassing. I can guarentee- they do not want EVERYONE doing it. They would lose their edge. I guess if they can get 3D kids to do it- then they look golden as their kids should get recruited first- just because they are older, bigger, more muscular, but that does not make them better. In 2 years it evens out- and with all the earlier recruiting- I think you will see a lot of decommitting from kids looking at better schools or easier schools to get into- which should change the "games" again and hopefully right the wrongs of reclassing and recruiting so early.

Take a look at dukes fresh an class all 1995, the kid from Garden City, already 20 years old. Lax is a joke.

6 goals in his "freshman" debut, I do not think anyne at Duke is going to care if that production continues. With that type of success, the trend will only continue to grow.

4 more goals for the kid today, say what you want but the path he took has him at Duke and dominating as a freshman. I thought this was a new trend on LI, sounds like you are in the same boat as the rest fo the country.

I am sure his loser parents are proud of their 20 year old chesting freshman, maybe when he gets a job ( after doing clinics at the hub for 5 years) the employer will give him 2 years to catch up, why am i mad, because my kid will not be 20 until junior year. we did things right did not play the system.

I thought if a player did a post grad year it was okay and respectable. Some players need that PG year to get their grades up, they are not using the year to play against weaker younger players (to be seen - they were already seen) they use the PG year to get into the (best academic) school of their choice. I thought we only thought those that were held back in MS/HS were the cheaters.

I am also having trouble understanding the large number of posts that seem to be so hostile regarding PG hold backs. For those unfamiliar a PG(post grad) hold back is a student who decides to attend a prep school after HS graduation for a year for many reasons. Think West Point Prep School or Navy Prep School.
As a parent I think it's a great idea and gives these students a year to get their grades and SAT/ACT scores up and mature. Whether it's a military prep school or a private school I can only see the positives.

Mr. Hop I think the hostility stems from the ability or inability for a family to be able to afford the PG year. Justin was a great High School player and I dont have any personal information as to why he did a PG year . I have less of a problem with players doing a PG year after High School than the parents that have their children repeating the 8 TH grade. What if a student decided to see the world or join the military for a year or two then enter college ? Just my opinion.

Is there hostility toward those who have vacation homes and Rolls Royce cars? I know I can't afford those things but I'm not hostile toward those that can.

Hop, a lot of us are comfortable with PG years but very uncomfortable with this at younger ages because the size disparity is potentially so great. If you want to moderate us away from posting about that, let us know. But the concern is legitimate and I would hope you can acknowledge that.

I don't have any issue with a kid doing a PG year. If it can help you prepare for college, what's wrong with that? I'm here to tell you its not easy to balance college and lax. Might not be that hard for the most gifted academic kids, but not for most. If a PG year gives your son that boost academically, I think it's great. After all, isn't all of this about pursuing the best education? However if the Duke kid is 20, sounds like he was most likely a holdback and a PG. Legit college freshman are 18. Some still 17 in fall semester.

The young man wanted a great education. Therefore he elected to do a year at a prep school. Look at the Duke roster, many kids took a prep year. A Duke education is worth an awful lot, how much is Professional Lax paying these days?? Lacrosse is a means to an end EDUCATION wise, not a sport you are going to get rich playing.

Was not a hold back just a PG. Had a birthdate last week. Some players who committed early have some bumps along the way not saying he did or didn't. Sometime a PG is the only way to get/stay where you want to go.

Funny how Jan/Feb was old for a grade year in my time. Now Oct/Nov is old.

Kids that are born in the earlier part of the year will be 19 in their freshman lax year at college. Doing one pg year is not that big of a deal. If he had repeated 8th grade, than chose a pg year- and was 21 at time of freshman year- that is something to talk about. I suspect, you will see some of the 8th grade holdbacks being asked to pg in the future as well. Will be interesting to see if they want to give up ANOTHER year of their life at that point. It will certainly be a much longer road for these kids to get to college. I suspect- some will be burnt out from an extra two years of schooling before they even start their freshman classes.

Holding your son back in 8th grade for an advantage on the athletic field is a shameful act. Let the boy grow and mature. So he doesn't verbal to Duke in 9th grade...so what? If he's good enough, he will go where he wants.

Thats fine then let US Lacrosse adopt the same system that USA Hockey uses which is birth year base. That way Little Johnny has to play against boys his own age / year of birth them mom and dad can have him repeat all the grades he wants to .

If by barely you mean losing by 5 in the finals of young guns, than yes Madlax barely lost to Dukes. FWIW, the Madlax goalie wouldn't have made Dukes and the goalies for Laxachusetts, Team 91 and the Express were more impressive than that kid. The amount of total BS uttered by insecure parents is staggering.

My son welcomes the challenge of playing against little babies who had to be held back to compete. I will not discourage him from letting them know what losers they are.

I too was there, what they said was if (yes if) a coach said to a player I have no spot for you as a 2017 (I'm picking a year) but I would if you were a 2018, it s then up to the player and parent to determine what s best.
On their website they address reclassifying (it's a reality lets face it) and what they state is when it would be best for players to do so.
They do not support it and are not against it, they are stating the facts.
Fact is, it's not illegal, it's not cheating, it is a reality, which many might not like, but it still happens.
Cheaters are those that put players who are not of a graduating class on a team and tell the parents when registering for tournaments to lie. See it all the time, it's an ugly reality of travel lacrosse and marketing. They want to win so they can sell you on their organization.
The number of reclassified players is not large enough to have the amount of conversation surrounding it.
What's next attacking parents who have the funds for private training or sport specific athletic training.
Our children need to learn that the world may not always be fair, and there is nothing they can do about it other then being hard working.
And, No, I am not a parent of a reclassified player, just someone who s realistic.

We will bring a short bench and a guarantee we beat you on the scoreboard as well as mentally and physically. The teams are mostly the same, just not the whole roster and guest players for a tournament here and there. As for the teams being friendly, they are- kids have no issues and get along fine, the parents with big egos are the ones with the issues. Everyone needs to check their egos and tempers- it's a game, just a game one one single day. Many more games, tournaments and camps in the future.

Jake Reed invites went out my son didn't make the cut but we have a great experience in Florida with the 3D Tryout. Well run and best coaching I've ever seen. Even got to speak to Mr. Reed him self a pure gentlemen.

My son didn't make Jake Reed either. But loved the clinic last month in Fla. Great coaching and he played some of his best lacrosse ever. Some of the strongest players we know didn't make the cut either. Must be some team...

My sons also went and both were not advanced. I am curious to know, of the LI players who were down there, how many were invited on to attend Jake Reed. My sons spoke with friends who were down there at the same time and they were NOT advanced either.

The whole 2019 group was incredible and was fun to watch. I know of only 2 kids from Long island who made it so far. Both are great players and stand out from the rest of the crowd.

120 players were picked from ALL SESSIONS COMBINED. Meaning there was no limit on how many could be picked from each weekend session.

Let me clarify for MR ALL CAPS above. Ther was no quota for each weekend. It was stated very clearly that the best overall were being invited back. Nothi g to keep even numbers for each region. So forget the "30" number. Means nothing.

What coaches from Long Island were evaluating the 2019's. As a 2018 parent that participated last year the coaches involved during the selection process had a lot to do with who was picked.

Thats not what I'm telling you - there were a whole bunch of people there, whose kids do NOT play for 3D, who wondered if the selection process was going to be biased / 3d weighted.
Most of the tri-state kids I saw saw at my son's tryout were much better than the 3d kids I saw. Early returns seem to be that the 3D evaluators, for whatever reason (wink), didnt see it that way.

My 2017 son made it as well his rising freshman year. Not by any means the be all and end all, has been very diluted since 3D got involved. Still a decent event, but Maverik and Black Card in the summer,plus Under Armour underclass tryouts which coaches flock to, and Philly Showcase in the Fall, are more important in my opinion. And to be honest, if your kid is good and plays on a top club team, he will be seen even without theese individual showcases. If this is the case, do the team tournaments and a few prospect days may be time better spent.

Best accomplished by worring about it next year. So many new and different options out there. I do know of a dad who has put some lists together. Ask around I am sure he will share but not on here.

Only 6 3D guys were evaluating the kids. Coaches just coached the individual teams.

And about 1/2 the kids that attend the Camp in July are direct invited and don't have to go to the tryout in Florida.

Looking back at earlier posts, direct invites go out without the expense of a FL weekend.
Additionally, no matter how many players were from LI, the 30 spots for 2019 midatlanic region could be filled with whom ever they liked best-it could be only 8 from MidAtlantic and all of them D-men, etc.

not sure what you are looking for, lots of discussion on the 2018 thread from people that were their last year. I have been to it a few times, it is a great event that lets kids from other towns and travel teams play together for a week representing long Island, it is the most fun the kid will have over the summer playing lacrosse. having said that, it is not a recruiting event - they have some great colleges represented but they are coaches not guys in folding chairs with clip boards - playing for a coach fro a school you are interested in could be a great opportunity but that is luck of the draw - last year the middle school team was coached by a Maryland assistant who is now at Loyola so it is great if you play well and are interested in the school.

It's not about the team .it's about getting each kid to play better on an individual basis.if your son hardly plays for any of these teams they should go to an organization where your son will play.. hard to get better just watching. Team records mean absolutely nothing.

yeah but, his parents left him behind one year in kindergarten to get an edge, then reclassified in 8th grade. Wait until PG year after high school.

Watch out for the Canadian arm breaker!

Not an Orange fan but this is a holdback year for many. This is the year that LI clubs begin to be at a disadvantage. Teams that LI clubs beat handily in the past will suddenly be extremely competitive. The majority of LI players are public school kids of middle class parents, reclassifying is the exception not the norm. It's just the way it is.

Can we all agree reclassifying is an unfortunate fact, but the vast majority of players are age appropriate? Some clubs register their teams down an age group in tournaments for an advantage and there is nothing we as parents/coaches can do about (its up to the tournament directors to police). Finally, there are a lot of pretty darn talented teams in the North East US and we really don't need to bicker over which is best. Everyone needs to take a step back from the debating and simply enjoy watching the game played at such a high level.

Our 2019's from Strong Island are all very good players and from the ones I know and have met, are very nice, well mannered young men. That combined with the fact that they have club teams, coaches, trainers at their disposal wanting each of the boys to get better makes for a great combination. Plus we have our parents, always willing to make it happen, paying for all of the additional expenses. Most importantly, the boys have a desire to be the best and the outstanding players are developing a Lax IQ, which is what makes a difference. All of these things combined is what elevates our 2019's to be the best players.

Here are some common myths about college recruiting. It's a changing process, and the more you know the better chance you have of achieving your goals.

RECRUITING MYTHS
1. If you are college material coaches will find you.

There are 166,000 high school boys playing lacrosse throughout the country. A coach is looking for five or six players each year to fill in his roster. He has limited time and a limited travel budget. Your chances of being found among the 166,000 are slim at best.

2. You need to wait until official recruiting period begins at the start of your junior year.

Wrong! 31% of lacrosse players commit before the official recruiting period even begins!! In fact, rising sophomores (freshmen) are committing to college programs so preparing for college cannot begin too early. A recent article in the New [lacrosse] Times was headlined "Committed to College and Then Started 9th Grade."

3. By the time you are a rising senior it is too late to get recruited.

69% of commitments are made between the junior and senior years. Many schools will recruit rising seniors to fill in unexpected gaps or among players who are late bloomers or missed in the process. While your chances at a top D1 school go down by the time you're a senior, it is never too late to be recruited. Our own survey of Blue Chip 225 Rising Senior attendees found that over 90% reported at least one college inquiry as a result of attending Blue Chip 225

4. Aim high! That's where the money is.

The talk in any high school locker room is about the top D1 schools kids are going to get into. UNC, Virginia, Hopkins, SU, and so on are every players dream schools. They have big time scholarship money.

The math is easy - there are 41,000 players in each graduating high school class and maybe 400 scholarship equivalents at all the D1 schools (some you've not likely even heard of). The odds of receiving ANY funding from ANY D1 school are 0.89% - less than 1 in a 100) - The average award in lacrosse is about $6,000. In all sports only 3.7% of high school players even make the team. Unless you are among the national elite players , at least include a wide range of D1 and other division schools in your target list. Dream high and plan wide.

4. I know a bunch of people who got full rides for lacrosse.

Football and basketball are head count sports where each scholarship is given to an individual for college. Lacrosse is an "equivalency" sport which means that the 12.9 scholarships for D1 and 10.8 for D2 are turned into dollars and awarded in pieces among athletes. In this way an athlete may receive partial tuition, or books, or any dollar amount so long as the total disbursed does not exceed typical expenses times the number of scholarships allowed for that division. Not all programs are fully funded which means that a given school may allocate only a portion of the maximum funding to the program which further limits the funding to be spread among the players in the four college classes.

5. Grades don't matter if you're a recruited athlete.

Quite the contrary. While being a recruited athlete is likely to get you some favorable treatment at the admissions office, NCAA regulations and the standards of colleges are likely to set minimum standards you must meet to be admitted no matter how strongly you are being recruited. Further, a coach assesses the likelihood of your remaining eligible academically, so the athlete with the stronger academic record is going to get the nod over one with lower grades or standardized test scores.

6. Someone can get me recruited. My coach will get me recruited. I filled out the prospective student questionnaire that's enough. I got emails from coaches indicating interest. I was invited to college camp.

All these statements are good indications of interest by colleges and you should welcome them. BUT! During the course of a year a coach may email hundreds of players, invite many players to camp, respond to a vast number of questionnaires... and that is exciting but all it means is that you are noticed. Until you receive a direct offer from a coach you can drop off the recruiting roster in a moment and the coach is not likely to notify you of this. The simple reality is that is up to you to market yourself to the schools you want to attend. No one, and I mean NO ONE, cares as much as you do about this next step in your life!

These 6 facts should be a wake up call for all of us who are chasing the false promise of athletic scholarship for lacrosse!

This sport does not turn up new blood at random. Players definitely get bigger, stronger, faster over the winter but that is why there is the June determination of who makes the team.

My son made the team in December. When I saw that there was another tryout I called the number on the website and was told that because they moved the date in December because of the weather they were having this tryout for boys that were unable to make the new date . I was told that if you got cut you cant tryout again. It doesnt make sense because how do they know that a boy who was there last night was better than a boy they cut months ago.

Guess someone who has some influence made some phone calls to get his kids from his program on the team wuth this tryout. Who were the evaluators. A lot has to do with who is doing the evaluating.

OK, so I've been through the lax circut before. I have never seen a supposedly elite competition hold a "second" tryout. Big time money grab, and not fair to the kids that got out there when they were supposed too. Ridiculous!

I'm a Mesa parent and yes, our game with you got away from us, but the others were MUCH closer than that. Either way, good lacrosse for early spring from all teams.

That's because none of the few "special" Crush or Terps kids even tried out. Was looking for certain kids at the 1st tryout and no where to be found.

If you look at the original group it could have been be 3 good groups of 17. Grabbing 15 more kids may dilute or strengthen the pool but could give kids better runs and better evaluations. Figure 20 per team.

There was a separate list or two with the players who were selected to move forward to play in the Pride of LI. I would think that list will be updated and posted as soon as the players were selected.

I saw at least part of each game. The FCA v 91 game was first and the kids were all rusty and out of sync. Several of the goals for both teams were on broken plays and it was not a pretty game to watch. The Crabs v 91 game was much the same and Crabs had to play 3d NE and then 91 back-to-back. 3d NE was winning both of their games at half (Crabs and FCA) and lost to Crabs by one and FCA by 2/3. These were no more than glorified scrimmages and I would not base how the season will go on these results.

Completely disagree. It's easy to use the word "rusty" since this is early in the year. Most goals came from set offenses with some spectacular shooting - by all teams. The "broken plays" were caused by strong defense and riding - by all teams. All goalies looked impressive as well.

If that 3D attackman is "rusty", I'd hate to see him when he kicks off the rust.

Let's give credit where it belongs. That was some pretty impressive early-season lacrosse by 4 very solid teams.

Just a comment to consider: Is it wrong to Single out a 2019 player for being great? It will be done this summer by name by all the recruiting commentators whether we like it or not. I'm talking only positive, never negative.

Yes it's wrong because unfortunately many posters on BOTC can only make negative comments about players. We have had players singled out for being outstanding only to have the floodgates of negativity open and disrespectful comments about that player posted. Players will not be singled out. Period.

Crabs 2-0 v NPYLL Madlax last year (reg season and NPYLL Championship). Crabs lost to Madlax Natl in the Summer. Are you talking about NPYLL Madlax or National Madlax?

Wrong. Madlax went 2-1 against crabs last year. Beat them in Npyll Fallfest, lost to crabs in Npyll final and beat them in Crabs tourney. The teams didn't play in regular season npyll.

Was the team that played in the NYPLL final and the team that played in the Crabs tournament comprised of the same players? Was the team that beat the Crabs in the NPYLL Fallfest the same team that lost to FCA at Greene Turtle? The point is that the Madlax teams are good, but comparing the NPYLL and National Madlax teams is not apples to apples.

Madlax is very good but they lost to Dukes at youngunz by 4 or 5 not by 2. It was 5-1 at halftime and Dukes scored the first two or three goals of the second half. Their run came when the game was all but over and the kids weren't playing as hard. That's not to take anything away from their squad, who I feel is a top 5 2019 team, but our goalie stood on his head in the first half not allowing madlax to gain any momentum.

Why do Madlax scores always get inflated, have read a ton of posts where they win games by 5-10 goals and it turns out to be 1-2 goals, lose by 2, turns out to be 4-5. Hey you ungrateful scorekeepers, get the scores right before you come on and brag about the 6 time defending National Champions.

Heard Express is heading down to Landon School on the 12th of April to play FCA, Madlax and Carolina Canons. What everyone is saying are these teams are impressive. Should be a great games!

Which 2019 Express team? There was one at Landon in March, but someone said it was Westchester? I know there are multiple Express teams at this age group.

FCA and Madlax are solid squads but the cannons suck. 91, HHH and laxachusset destroyed them at UNC at the end of February. Against HHH I think they had a total of four shots on cage. It was painful to watch.

No. They can earn an automatic invite back but it isn't guaranteed.

Good competition on sloppy fields. Garden City, Yorktown, West Islip, Melville were the top teams. We thought West Islip was supposed to play Yorktown in the championship but that didn't happen for some reason.

From what I was told Crush is the only U13 team from Long Island invited and attending. Thel championship game is supposed to be played in Mile High Stadium and televised via ESPN 2. supposed to be lax version of the youth world series

people seem to forget Crush is a 2020/u13 team due to the fact they usually play up and constantly challenge themselves. US lacrosse age classification 2014/15 for U13 is that "a player may prticipate in the age classification of u 13 if the player turns 13 years of age on or after September 1, 2001," Period, that's it, those are the rules.

No right it was fun when we were playing in 8th grade because we didn't have to worry about being recruited. Nowadays it's the opposite folks. It's unfortunate where lacrosse has ended up with this early recruiting.

Some good 2019 players dropped out of Brine because Jake Reed is same week as Brine Nationals.

Only 6 names that qualified back in the December at the first Brine tryout are not on the current list.

Ill go with the 6 missing, but those few are notable names of talented players. My son was hoping to play with and against 2 of them. I hope it was just clerical and they still come down and run with the boys Friday.

I heard the boys who are not on the list anymore were either already accepted to the final roster or have committed to the other showcase.

The only thing I can say is that I spoke with 2 parents of 2019 kids and they were both told by the director that their sons already made the team after the first tryout. they were told they didn't have to go to the tryouts.

Not sure if they are full of it, but I guess we will know the truth once the final list comes out.

Are the players you're speaking about 2 of the best kids out there. I am sure you can go back and look at the same comments the past 3 years. The past few years they have seemed to pick the best representation for the island.

They may miss a diamond in the rough. or may give the 45th kid the 40th spot but I am sure it isn't that far off.

they are both solid players, but not the best in their position by any means. I only know of 2 or 3 kids who would deserve to get an automatic invite and they aren't 2 of them

This type of stuff has been going on for a loooong time. Last year at the 2018 Pride of Long Island there were 77 kids and 3 teams at the tryout. These were the players that were selected from the 150 or more that tried out at the first Brine tryout. At the Pride of Long Island after an hour or so the players broken down to the final two teams. This was approximately 50 players. Which meant that about 27 kids were sent home before the final selections were made. It was determined that there was so much talent on those two final teams that Long Island would have 2 teams. (Team Long Island and Team New [lacrosse]). You would think that players who were on the final two teams would have been the obvious choice to make up the Team New [lacrosse]. Not the case. Players who were sent home before the final two teams miraculously made Team New [lacrosse]. Many people were left scratching their heads. Go figure that one out.

Do you know how many of the players from last years team are impact players for their schools this year? Where there any who made an impact for their schools last year? Were the players selected of relative caliber of some of those that didn't make it? I would assume with limited roster spots there were some turned away just as good as some picked.

Does anyone know about how the process was for the 2017 year. In looking and hearing Mike Quick (MSGV) plenty of Sophomores are impact players on top teams.

I think you raise some interesting questions. The teams from Long Island were Team Long Island and Team New [lacrosse]. Team Long Island (A) being the better of the two. This team went on to win the event in the 2018 age group. The New [lacrosse] team (B) still being made up of predominantly all Long island players was competitive but not as good as the A team. The injustice here is that after the A team was made wouldn't you think that the B team should have been made up of the players that were left over from the final team selection of 50 players. All players at this level and who made it to Pride of Long Island were very good. A tryout is a tryout and kids should be selected on how they show not based on who you play for and connections.

Many of these players are good and depending on their school will dictate impact.

example 1: a player who is very good can be in a weaker lacrosse program and make varsity. They may have a major impact for their team. I know a few but will not mention their names.

example 2: same player in a strong high school program and he will not have an impact because he is playing JV due to upperclassmen strength.

example 3: many of these stud players who have gone the catholic or Private School route and based on tradition play Freshman Team, JV, then Varsity. There are exceptions to the rule in these schools but overall they follow a certain pattern of playing based on year.

The schools that don't pull up have strong JV teams and the boys could be impact player there. As far as Catholics are they impact players on Freshman.

Not looking for names, a statement of all/most/some boys are or will be impact players were they landed would suffice.

Most of all 2018 I know in Catholics are playing freshman ball. I am pretty sure about Chaminade and only 2 players were moved to JV from the freshman team at St. Anthony. Some of the smaller or less deep catholic schools like St. Dom and Holy Cross probably have freshman playing varsity due to class size and numbers of players playing lacrosse at said schools.

JV is a mixed bag of nuts at public. Personally feel even an impact player can get lost in a poorly coached JV program. Some kids can regress due to being coached by the football coach who has no idea about lacrosse and plays his football players over seasoned and skilled players. Please understand this is an example from which I am very familiar with. There are also programs with strong JV coaching that help feed Varsity and you can tell which programs those are based on year and year out performance. There are also down years for programs. It happens. Things are always changing as are programs. Some years just have better players than others and no matter how good the coaching is you cant get blood from a stone.

started out at 67 then added names after second tryout.

You will find that players will miraculously be at Pride who weren't even at the first tryout. Then after the Pride games players that weren't part of the final game(two teams made from the three) will make a team if they go with 2.

Always conflicts somewhere you can't expect everyone to show up every time what about injury , sickness or something else.
Exceptions are always make and it should be that way they are only human not machines.

Bottom line, If they are better than the boys there today then chances are they would have been better last time too.

So why have a tryout. Sorry you were out of town, hurt, sick, whatever it maybe. You didn't go to first tryout you should not be at second. Great lessons you are teaching the kids. Listen you don't have to go to first tryout but you will get to the second because I know someone. What if the so called better kid had a bad tryout on that day. Any given day anyone can shine especially in the competitive lacrosse field. Remember these are supposed to be the better kids trying out for this event.

First tryout was well publicized and held in December. 60+ kids were invited back from a pool of about 140-160.

Second tryout(who knows why they had it?) was in March and was not well publicized. About a dozen kids invited back from pool of 80-90.

Then, recently several last minute additions.

If they are trying to field 2 teams like they have done for the past 2 years, you want to have a larger selection of players to choose from, whether they were in the initial tryout or not. Having a solid first team and a competitive second team makes it more enjoyable for the players.

This nonsense of favoritism has been going on for years, move on, make sure the best play at these events, i've seen where the best did not show up and it isn't pretty.

I agree with let the best play. Some of the player talent differential is negligible. At least show up to tryout or even let the coaches make the choices from those they picked. Last year daddys made phone calls after Johnny was sent home after the Pride teams were reduced to the two teams and from those two teams the selection were made. A number of players who were eliminated miraculously made the 2nd team to go to Brine after it was determined the talent of the two teams playing was good enough to field two Long Island based teams.

Brine did a nice job last night. They made the kids feel good about being there.

The depth of the talent was remarkable. These kids really can play. The speed and pace of the game at this level was very impressive. Every one of them deserved to be there.

In all, he was glad to be there.

2019 Viper was a combined 7/8th grade team last year. They had 6 8th graders so the whole team played up in 2018. This year they are playing in their own grade.

The Pro Player was not the best competition for 2019. Most teams were B level.

If you were an evaluator at the Brine tryout Friday night you should be embarrassed or at least be able to explain yourself. How do you look at numbers and evaluate kids based on their play and some kids weren't even there. If the number isn't on the field how do you pick them?. There was a speech before the tryout where the kids are told your numbers and play will dictate if you are on the team. Please explain. If its a scam then please say it is and I will respect you more. I guess there were maybe 20 people picked and not 23 then. Is it fair to all the other kids or at least say that some kids are on the team already based on rep and they were so good at the first tryout that no one out there can compete with them. I would respect that more. No sour grapes but if my facts are wrong please correct me and i will apologize.

Seriously, you need therapy. How do you know kids were selected that weren't there. I know a few who made it and rightly deserved it and were the best on the field. I don't know all the boys selected is it posted. I usually wait for an email from my friend, if the player is a top player than relax if your son is better than you have an issue.

First off the list of names and numbers were out prior to the game. It was a great speech and geared to get the boys up to play. They did a great job at it. If you really think they didn't have a list your naïve, some dads had it.

As of the latest picks, the list is out on the net. I see what you see but don't have an issue neither should you, player is tops of the grade. I do not see 3 boys one pole 91, one middie smithtown and one attack 91 who I thought would have made it easily. I am not sure if they declined due to JR, make no mistake those three will be 2019 impact players for years to come regardless if they made Brine. if you are not one of those parents, which I don't think your are you should have no beef. All good players selected.

There was enough talent there to create 3 nationally competitive teams. So, as difficult as it might have been to get to 23, it should not have been difficult to recognize that the boys that did compete, worked hard, and spent the money and time, deserved the most fair treatment possible.

Wherever did the evaluation should speak up and let Brine know that they didn't pick kids to be on this team that they didn't evaluate.You would hope they want to protect their own reputation then have their name associated with this.Who is pulling the strings on this team.It's turning into AAU basketball where the directors tell the college coaches who to recruit and you need to go thru me if you want a kid to play for you.

I think anyone involved can have a beef. Most people involved know those three players and know they should have been selected. I heard the Middie from St James has been injured so was surprised to see him there. If they did decline because of JR that is commendable as not to take a slot from someone else. Good luck to all that made the team based on their efforts. Some very good players are on the roster.

It's all about the tryout nothing should be based on reputation or past history. Not saying they would or would not have made it but other kids do get better and kids do get passed by. Some kids bloom late and some are just started. The judge and jury should be legitimate evaluators and nothing and I mean nothing based in history. The real world is what have you done for me lately . Not a month ago or a year ago .That's thats why your suppose to have tryouts every year and be fair about it.

Haven't we all been over and through this before. This should not be new to any of us for goodness sake. Personally I noticed one boy missing and hoped they would give him "The Pass" because he is deserving; and they did.

I feel this is just the first list and others will be selected because many are on the short JR list. The team as selected is a talented pool of boys, as in life seeing is in the eye of the beholder. In sports, one boy making it over another is just that one player's day. LI 2019 is very talented and every boy who played out there should hold their head high. Outside of a handful of players there is a lot parody amongst the grade. I am sure it was not easy for the evaluators. Every one of those boys will make an impact in their years to come.

The real question now is will anyone get those 80 or so boys together to play against each other in the future.

91 kids all deserving? REALLY?
I guess the 9 91 kids and 8 express kids were all just better than the rest.

I was there and it was not as black and white as the list seems.

I saw several evaluators talking to a few of the kids on the field and calling them by their first names.

this is the problem, you cant have evaluators that know the boys. its simple, bring in people who don't know the boys and lets see if the same kids get selected.

Where does it say a kid is deserving of a pass on the tryout agenda or itinerary. I doubt any parent regardless of their sons pecking order in this age group would believe he is entitled to a roster spot. The kid who was reserved a spot is probably very good but any kid can be matched up against another great player and look mediocre in the eyes of the evaluators. On a more disturbing thought why should evaluators have any knowledge of a boys reputation or team affiliation if this is a National Lacrosse Event. The whole thing is rotten and perhaps a letter campaign to the Event sponsors or coordinators needs to be an option. It may not change this outcome but prevent these things from happening in the future and remove the people in positions of authority who continue to allow it.

You are 100% correct! The whole process has been flawed from the start. Yeah remember back in December when kids showed up in the freezing cold. Some very good kids got cut that day. Oh, then there was magically another tryout on indoor turf for a totally different group of kids under different circumstances. And then comes the "pride of LI" scam/ money grab. This event being on a Friday night after kids had a full day of school followed for many by an away league game. Kids,falling asleep in car on way because they are exhausted? But god forbid they tryout fresh Saturday morning. Then kids show up on roster who didn't tryout? Are you kidding? This event is rotten to the core.

So why pit out the list now why not wait till they have a final roster and everyone has said yes.Is this to please the dads of the kids going to Jake Reed to say they made

"Participants can qualify to attend the Brine National All-Star Lacrosse Academy by attending a tryout in their region"

People should ask for a refund, as they did not even follow their own specifically stated process.

I have said it before and will say it again. This stuff will never be fair as long as evaluators who are affiliated with clubs who profit from advertising how many of their players make it to these so called elite events. Yes its a shame that players who actually showed up to the events and laid it all out on the line. Its a shame Brine knowingly allows for this type of BS. The worst part is the kids who were cheated. Yes they were cheated. If you don't go to a tryout out you don't make a team. To get a free pass. It shouldn't matter if you were on vacation or sick or hurt that's life and something parents need to understand. Yes a kid is one of the best players in the age group at least show up.

It also happened in 2018. So this is not an anomaly. The other thing is to my knowledge they have yet to even post the players for 2018 because of politics and players who knew they were going to one of the other events still tried out and took up slots. So let the powers that be at Brine know how you feel is all I can say.

You don't need the very best from LI .the competition won't even be close. Too many good kids on the Island so you can throw that excuse out the window. it's time for these things to be exposed. A 2021 kid should not even think of trying out next year. You have no chance. they only want the older kids but will take your money if you want to try out.

This has nothing to do with who did/did not make it. It has to do with a fair tryout. Brine did not follow through on that end they took money every chance they got and offered no transparency into their process which was clearly contradictory to what they state on their website. The fact that kids are on roster but not at tryout is terrible, dishonest and yes rotten to core. They should have one tryout, pick from that,and be done with it. You show up and do well, you're in. Enough with secret added tryout dates and "Pride (money grab) of LI". By the time it's all said and done, you will have spent over 1000$ on a basically useless event during an important recruiting summer.

Who are the core players .My guess is that try are all pretty good and don't need anyone specific. Maybe on their travel teams they do but not on this team. I wonder how the kids that didn't make it off the top teams feel now. They will be told by their directors that it was a tough competition and you weren't good enough.Meanwhile kids from their own team made it and didn't even show up. All the crying about 3 kids missing the tryout, it was only one. He missed because of a Varsity game. He plays VARSITY lacrosse as an 8th Grader. I think that has to be a valid excuse for a middle school tryout. Every kid on list deserving.

Interesting that an 8th grader is playing Varsity. I would never ask what town but do you really think an 8th grader would play Varsity in a powerhouse program. How often does that happen? If he's that good and plays Varsity in towns like WM, Manhasset, and GC that have large pools of players and talent. I don't mean to leave any of the other great lacrosse towns out but just naming a few. He must be exceptional. If he plays Varsity and is from a non powerhouse program where a good player with decent size in 8th grade could possibly be the best player in that town than playing varsity doesn't really say much. That doesn't make it ok that he missed the tryout. He deserved it based on reputation, yes. Not going to the tryout means you shouldn't make the team.

This should not be a news flash folks - same stuff happened last year and the year before that, etc. Why are people acting so surprised that Club politics played a part. Last year you had kids who did not show for any tryout make one of the 2 teams they put together, you had kids who were not picked for the final Pride of Long Island game make a team - big shock they happened to be from one of the top 2 Club teams. It's an excuse, the team could have done without him. Bottom line is it is unfair for ANY kid to get a free pass onto a tryout selected team. Nobody is that special, sorry! Life is about choices and consequences, not excuses and favoritism. It's embarrassing to make a team under those circumstances.

They took off all the 2020 kids? ...some very good kids. I think that should be a lesson for the younger years in the future- your chances of making this team is very low if you are not an 8th grader. I totally get why they would choose the 8th graders, but with the try out costs so high- I would think putting those bucks into private training would be better spent than sending your kid to the try out as a 7th grader.

My son is attending Brine from a different state and I stumbled across this thread. So is my understanding correct that there was a first round where they charged $100, a second round where they charged 80 kids another $150 and then they mainly took kids off of lists they had already made based on club politics? Doesn't say much for the integrity of the process although it sounds like it will be a great team.

I have not even been notified that my don did not make it. I figured it out based on the fact that text said to look fur email. When I did not get one, I told him he was out. His 91 buddies made it.

You can only see the list if you're on it. My son made it, and I recognized some other names from legacy and express. Awesome players. We will not be paying any more money to be part of this!

As was mentioned earlier there was enough talent there to make at least two very competitive teams as they did last year. We went into the tryout knowing there would be politics at play and favoritism. But in looking at the first list there is no denying it has SOME of the best players on it AND some favors. LI has such a large number of talented lacrosse players that many deserving players were left out and did not make it.

Is this second/alternate list going to be a second team? Does anyone have any information on that?

You have no clue about lacrosse and the depth of a program. Any good program wouldn't have an 8th grader playing on Varsity. If you dont have enough talented players in 9th,10th,11th,and 12th grade to fill a Varsity roster you have a program with little to no depth. The depth of GC, Manhasset, and other historically lacrosse rich programs very rarely have 8th graders playing Varsity.

Looking at the list of alternates My guess is you can't make a team of it.Not to be rude but if you can look at it and you can see it was put together mostly to appease the kids in an org. That is obvious . They don't want to have any in house fighting is my guess . Helps to keep peace a little

Madlax and Dukes are the kings of overaged players. No doubt they would be highly ranked.

Look Mom, dad, aunt, uncle, whoever this is. Because if its not than your indepth knowledge of an 8th graders coming and goings on the lacrosse field is creepy.

I dont want this to be about your kid. It all started with the fact this player was given a spot on a team without showing up for the last tryout. The fact that you said he was entitled to it because he plays varsity in 8th grade is just insanly ridiculous. No one should be entitled to anything except what they earn. You chose his Varsity game over the tryout and thats fine. You made the choice. The fact that others made the choice to go to the actual final tryout should have trumped his previous stellar showings on the field. He was not there!!!!! When other parents are paying and being told that a fair and transparent tryout system is going to be used to determine the team and stuff like this happens it pisses people off.

I have been around this sport for a long time. The fact that you dont know the history of Teams like WM, Manhasset, and GC and other programs shows your fly like mentality. A 48hr snapshot is what you base your deductions on regarding powerhouse programs. GC has won I believe 19 county titles Manhasset 17 and Ward Melville 22. Please provide me with how many your powerhouse program has won and I will eat crow if it comes anywhere near these teams. If you think one player is going to make a powerhouse program you are mistaken. It takes a great youth program that feeds a steady flow of fundamentally sound players to the Junior High and High School programs. Little Johnny cant play every position on the field. Which means he cant pass it to himself or you think he can do that also.

I said rarely. Yes, exceptions do occur. Its just rare that in historically strong programs that an 8th grader plays Varsity. Coaches will usually try and groom younger players and try and protect them early on. 8th graders plsying Varsity will happen more often in weaker programs.

I guess there is no reason to continue this conversation because you will rebuff any accomplishments and say weak program.

I don't think the program in question is weak, I dont think the competition he played was weak (some sure, not all) but that is only one persons opinion.

The kid is not at fault only the powers in charge. legacy took over Brine and this looks and smells bad and it would be very hard to dispute . that and the fact 19 kids from 91 made the team or alternates.They added two 2020 kids to the alternates o make it look like the younger kids should try out and have a shot..one more thing..if you dont think they left out the clubs the alternates play for on purpose then you are naive ..they learned their lesson when they put out the kids that made the team..I guess they are getting smarter

I agree. There is a lot wrong with the process, we can only hope they acknowledge the mistakes that were made and try to do better next time. As for the alternates, the two 2020 deserved those spots. The fogo was the second best performer at that tryout (in other years two fogos are taken to the first team) . The other 2020 kid had an excellent tryout as well, standing out. Many of the other alternates play for Legacy and could have easily made the first team based on their performance at the tryout. You would expect most kids to be from Express or 91, because those are the two dominant teams from LI. I would expect that next year you will see a few Legacy kids make it. Good luck to all the boys who attended the Pride of LI games. On any given day any of you could have been selected.

Since tryouts last summer/fall, FCA has beaten Madlax, 91 and 3d NE. Their only loss was to Express in OT. Express has beaten Dukes and 91 has beaten Crabs. I think Crabs and Madlax play this weekend.

It would be a breath of fresh air to have some new talent showcased and acknowledged. I believe that's why people sour on these kind of events. It's kind of like the 91 and Express tryouts...teams are already preselected even if you beat their better players. I know of many talented players who did not attend this event because of the shenanigans of having players make the team who did not go to tryouts. We've all seen this before at team tryouts. This is why people get angry. There are plenty of talented players out there that don't play for 91, Express or even Legacy. Perhaps they carry a weaker team but make no mistake they are talented. These events just recirculate and promote the big club players. It would be refreshing to have an unbiased event.
