BOTC is opening our Fall 2014 through Summer 2015 thread covering the Girls 2022 age group.

Why are M&D black and YJ blue 2022 in different age groups for the Ocean City tournament ? Seems like a wasted opportunity.

So they can meet in the finals?

Looks like M&D 2022 is going to be playing teams two years older than them. Is that useful? Are they that good? YJ 2022 teams are pretty solid.

It looks like they play one year up but against the B division. In theory that would equal out so why not just play the A division of own age group?

The Ocean City Tourn uses the US Lacrosse age guidelines u11 and u13 are the divisions. Some/most of the M&D girls are older that normal 5th graders, they can't play in u11 most girls are the age of NY 6th graders.

No kid on the team but I saw the 2022 Elevate girls play this winter and they looked very good. Wonder how they will fair against the top teams this summer. Hopefully they are playing in the same tournaments so they will get a shot.

Wrong. There is not one girl on the M&D 2022 or 2021 for that matter that is older than their typical grade level.

The reason the 2022s are playing up is so they don't have to play the stupid 2 pass rule.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Girls 2022 Fall 2014/Summer 2015 -
The stupid two pass rule??? Yes by all means let's teach the kids to lplay lacrosse by not passing!

Agree. At this age, the games without passing are just a frustrating ball hog fest. 2 pass rule at least encourages them to play the game the right way.

Whatever the reason, they get to play each other 2 weeks later.
Couldnt agree more about pass rule
its a team game
use your teammates learn how to move the ball
Ball hoging shouldn't be rewarded at any age but esp with the up and comer youngsters

Where will they play each other in 2 weeks?

M&D 2022 made semis of U13B. M&D 2023 beat YJ 2022 Blue in U11A. Still question why M&D 2022 played up and YJ didn't?

I think you got this wrong, that was the YJ gold (B) team that lost to M&D 2023. The score was 2-1 in an unfortunately poorly officiated game.. I'm not complaining about the ref making bad calls but that he was more interested in talking to the parents on the sidelines then keeping the game moving.. He did 2 of our 5 games and was awful both times

I would argue that the A brackets at any given age group is more competitive than the B brackets a year up.

It wasn't just a year up. M&D 2022 beat a YJ 2020 team. That's 5th graders vs 7th graders.

Congrats. Your 11 year old A team beat the 12 year old 5th YJ team. Woo hoo!

Cleaning up the site.

Please post in the proper age groups and if an age group is not seen, you can post a new age group.

"Politics of this age group has the top team no stronger than the second team. Who knows, if the politics continue the second team will be stronger than the first next year."

Politics? can you be more specific? Does this refer to
the girls that made the team?
who plays more minutes?
who plays what postions?
What town all the girls are from?
who takes the draw??

Unanswered question from the now closed YJ thread. DOes the original poster care to elaborate?

Larry - How about closing the ESM thread for the same reason? Thought that one was played out but started up again.

The EMS is a school thread, not a club.

This new Legacy team can make some noise this summer. If the goalies step up , they will be very competitive in all of the tournaments. A lot of talent over there.

Isn't that a 2021/2022 combo team?

I only know a few girls over there they are of the 22 variety. Do you know of any 21's on the team?

No they are a 22 team only. Lots of talent over there, they didnt play at national draw but they won the LaxFest.

They lost by 1 in a 22 min game after beating YJ by 1 in a full game. Don't see any reason for humble pie. Two good teams

M&D 2022 lost by 1 point in sudden death overtime in the finals. YJ 22 was the better team on Saturday.

M&D 22 had to play in the U13 group because 1 player missed the birthday cut off Aug 30 by a few days.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Girls 2022 Fall 2014/Summer 2015 -
Here we go - they "had to"!!!

Yes, they played where they belonged. There are rules for reasons - glad they were enforced!

I would also wonder if the other teams who cried that they played up (and won) were really playing the right bracket. this whole grade age thing has got to make some sense at some point!

Just curious - what is this girl's birthday - day and year? Or what exact cutoff date did miss?

Heard so many teams cry about playing up when "so called playing up" is the right "age" grouping. They are going into 6th grade no college looks yet play your age.

YJ 2022 Harney 8-0 in last two tournaments' pool play at ND and LFTC. Not too shabby. Pretty good for a B team with a large roster.

Yeah. They are the best B team

Moving forward, would this B team be better served by playing in a higher bracket?
Is it better to beat all the B competition or lose to most of the A level competition

All they can do is hit the NJ Turnpike and play the teams on their schedule. They are not an A team and it doesn't look like any organization puts two of their teams in the same pool. So they will continue to need to get out of pool play to be able to play A teams. Glad to see they are doing so well.

You still have a shot at the A teams every tournament in playoffs. What is teams record in playoffs? Every tournament has a different bracket theory, some put all top teams in one bracket and whoever emerges is easily taking the tournament, some spread a top team or two with weaker teams and the better teams play in playoffs, but shorter games typically. You actually have a much easier path to the finals in most tournaments playing in the lower pools. If your team manages to win a tournament or two by beating A teams in the final, then the discussion of being in a A bracket can begin. I wouldn't be looking to jump headlong into top pool at a top tournament. Going 0-8 gets people on the threads as well, just singing a different tune. Your A team is losing pool games in the top bracket, is this team as good or better?

Didn't make playoffs in Ocean City
1-1 at National Draw - lost to YJ 2022 Russell 7-6 in Finals
0-1 at Lax for the Cure - lost to MD Black 2022 who lost to YJ Russell

I would say they are below Russell's YJ 2022 A team and M&D Black 2022- one or two player difference. A very solid B team who could beat many A teams, just not YJ and M&D. Summer isn't over yet, though.

Sounds like a very solid team nipping on the heels of the top team. Normally you would not see the talent distributed rather evenly between the A and B teams. At some point the best players will be brought to top team and some dropped down. At that point you will see the two teams diverge in competitiveness.

Can Legacy go in and beat TG's this weekend?? Maybe make a statement telling TG that Levy was one of the reasons their program was a top tier team. He seems to be doing the right things down on the south shore.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Girls 2022 Fall 2014/Summer 2015 -
They are in different pools. Only way to play each other is if they both place either fisrt, second, etc. in their pool and play each other in fourth game. TG in Pool A, Legacy Pool B.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Girls 2022 Fall 2014/Summer 2015 -
They did play and Top Guns won 7-6 in OT, two very good teams, I was impressed with talent on Legacy for a first year team, I'll tell you one thing, my daughter will take try out over there at Legacy at the end of the season to keep our options open. I enjoy TGs but it's always nice for the kids to have options here on the south shore!!

Harney team has plenty of girls. Both team coaches decided not to play despite players and parents wanting game to occur.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Girls 2022 Fall 2014/Summer 2015 -
YJ Russell won 3 blowout games, YJ Harney played 2 tough ones, the third game was a walk...the coaches rested the top middies In order for them to be "fresh" for the the championship game against Russell... No real reason why we didn't play,.. Other than waiting the hour for a field..

We were there. Why would the coaches choose not to play? Why forfeit? What conspiracy theory is cooking now?

Did someone really just say they didn't play because they didn't want to wait an hour? Yes that was it. It wasn't the fact that it would've been a blow out on center stage and no one wanted to see that. You are delusional to think it was about waiting an hour.

Why should they not be able or expected to beat the A team ? Coach M not sure i would want you coaching any of our teams

nothing inexplicable. B was missing some girls and a few had prior commitments so they didn't have enough to play championship. No politics here. A is a very strong team with several championships under their belt. B has some really strong players too, why can't it be left at that

Sounds like a tall tale YJ parents wouldn't allow a team their daughter is on to forfeit. It just doesn't happen.

Coach M? Thought the coaches were coach R and coach H? What team are you talking about?

Harney parents were told both Russell and Harney coaches decided not to play game because it was YJ vs YJ. Harney coaches later apologized later admitting they made a mistake. Enjoy your T shirts. Safe trip to Delaware.

Need to know your audience a little better. Nevertheless, we all know they'll see each other

How about we sll stay home and play Li teams. How would YJ TG EL 91 Legacy and icon all do if they played each other.

Sound like you could get 2 4 team brackets. Break the myth that you hsve to travel and have fun in our back yards and maybe get sometime to enjoy the beach or pool
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Girls 2022 Fall 2014/Summer 2015 -
I completely agree, lets just run tournaments around here and let everyone else who wants to play LI teams to come to us and play. Its starting to get frustrating traveling to tournaments and just playing a team from LI or worse a team from the same Club in the finals.

Years ago Scotty Craig (WI) decided this with the boys lets just play here and if anyone wants to come and play the best competition in the country they will come to us. Why pay for hotels and travel when we can run the best tournaments in the country right here in our backyard

Easier said than done, but hope it happens.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Girls 2022 Fall 2014/Summer 2015 -
The problem on LI is every club wants their piece of the action so they run their own tournament. It would take an independent organization to offer a tournament and then it would need the pressure from the parents to get the clubs to send the teams to it.

It would be Russell vs Harney in the finals just like it was this weekend. YJ Russell has beaten up on TG, Elevate and Icon, the latter 2 were embarrassing. Please, is including 91 some kind of a joke. Harney is the only team other than M&D worth playing right now.

But Russell can win games without even playing! Just ask the Harney team at Lax Blast.

They beat TG black at Lax By the Sea. Wasn't close. 8-2 or something like that.

Harney parents are not happy, I spoke to a ton of them this week and weekend, how can you not play the finals, thats ridiculous, Harney parents lets unite, there are plenty of clubs that will take our girls and then they wouldnt have a choice but to play us in the finals if tournaments.

Just stop the madness... if your a Harney parent as I am, let it go..it was one game, against our sister team, who we surprised once.. they were about to drop a bomb on us.. trust me.. we would have lost by 10

So what was the best team that Top Guns Black 2022 beat this season so far?

No way you are a Harney parent and speaking like that. We all watch them practice. Are they better than us probably, but 10 goals better you are insane. We were excited to play them, Coaches asked parents and kids if we wanted to play and we all agreed to play, we turn around and find out we arent playing. We pay a lot of money for tournaments we should be able to play in the finals.

I am I Harney parent, but I am also realistic, they are 10 goals better.
I never said we shouldn't have played the final, and I wish things worked out different for us last weekend. I rsponded to someone who thinks the entire team leaving the organization and joining a different club would somehow change things.
Hopeful we all ( coaches {Harney and Russell} & parents) learned something from what happend and it doesnt happen again.
Time to move on...

The apology is in the mail along with a refund check for the missed game. Maybe yours got lost?

You are not a Harey parent you fool. If you were you would know that they played to a 7-6 loss in overtime to Russell at National draw. Hardly a 10 goal difference.

Looks like the game wasn't played to save face in the organization as the Russell team is the "top" team that is loaded with friends and family. If they lost to Harney their would be an all out riot in YJ land.

Fool?? thank you for keeping this discussion civilized. I saw the game also.. how fast did that game get to 5-0 Russell 3 minutes?
Coach Manning put the brakes on his team, remember Russell wasnt there. ( no way that would happen again as it alomost bite them in the a$$) yes we came back to tie.. and even had a chance to win in O.T. my point is in the next rematch they will be no pull back. i'll split the differenc with you we would lose by 7
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Girls 2022 Fall 2014/Summer 2015 -
^^oh yeah,I forgot.. remember when we got spanked by M&D in the semi's at Lax for the Cure 7-1
Russells team beat M&D 4-3
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Girls 2022 Fall 2014/Summer 2015 -
Russell also lost to M&D. Play the game no matter what. If Russell was so sure of his 10 point win, why wouldn't he insist the game get played?
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Girls 2022 Fall 2014/Summer 2015 -
Didn't want to play to embarrass your B team and question why you pay Harney!

Blue is not allowed to lose...ask the Jones parents what happened a couple of yrs ago when they beat Curcio. Next game was not pretty.

I still don't get that logic. The girls are here to play and all try to improve. Harney girls could have gotten a first hand lesson on how to play the game at a higher level, and Russell girls could have gained even more confidence in knowing how superior they are to most girls their age. They'll play this weekend and Russell will win easily. And the world will keep on spinning.

Based on the current schedule, I do not see Harney playing Russell, but they are playing up against the 1st and 3rd 2021 teams. Really odd..,

Just wanted to say what a pleasure it was coming to the new club Legacy this year. It was great. No politics, great coaches and kids. All teams were good enough to have a successful summer. If you are looking for a well run club with no politics and great coaching I would highly recommend coming to play for this team

I don't believe they had a 2021 team this past year, but if indications of the (1) 2022 and (2) 2020 teams are a factor of future paths this should be a good option to at least explore via the tryout process.

I would argue that the A brackets at any given age group is more competitive than the B brackets a year up.

Yes I believe you are correct
You see this in soccer all the time
Better teams playing up a year but dropping a div or 2

Never saw the original post, but M&D 2023 never played YJ 2022 Blue.

Saw this in the 2019 forum, Im not sure that its true because I wasnt at any YJ tournaments as I am a Legacy parent, but I know that we beat Igloo.

"This may not seem like the right group, but I will ask anyway. My daughter is going into 5th grade and wants to do travel. See played in the Yellow Jackets tournaments a week ago for here town and we played against a great Igloo girls team. I believe they beat both Yellow Jackets teams in that grade. And someone told me that they have beaten Liberty, 91, and others. Igloo must be doing something right, can anyone tell me about them from the girls stand point."

Ocean City game was a complete joke with horrible officiating clearly favoring M and D. Was an absolute disgrace. YJ 2022 Gold a far superior team to MD 2023 and showed it at LFTC with neutral officials. And don't cry the M&D kids are younger - they're not.

The Igloo 2023 team is very good and well coached. They have a bunch of very good players. 2023 YJ A beat them at Farmingdale but lost at Mitchell Field last week.

I'm sorry too if you don't know most Maryland girls are older than LI girls by school year. MD Black 2022 couldn't play the Ocean City tourney against the 2022 YJ teams due to at least one girl being 12. Same old tired discussions.

So they have one 12 year old? M&D 2022's best player was an on age 2023. Guess it evens out.

Plus, what does that have to do with M&D 2023? My daughter is on M&D 2021 and there is not a single girl over age on that team. With the boys you would have a point, but it is very very rare for a girl to be older.
