What happened to the Express? Saw them at the Terp Classic, and they looked nothing like they've looked the past 2 years. Did they simply lose a lot of players, or was that their B team?

B team, A team was in PA

It seems as if Goalie, F/O and lefty attack are the most heavily recruited positions.

Questions for 2016's that played in the U-15 Championship last year:

Was there any recruiting value in attending this event?

Were any college coaches at the event looking at the players?

Was it a good event for the "resume"?

Any info you can share would be great. Thanks in advance.

It was a lot of fun. Great for father son time.

Not a big deal recruiting wise.

Maryland coach was there.

How did the boys look at the top 20 tryouts today? Will politics determine who is picked, or is it a real tryout?

Nice event for the boys, no real college presence

Thought there were some very talented kids out there. Would have liked to have seen them play 3 games, but overall well run.

My prediction is that the kids that get selected were their HS coaches picks prior to the tryout and most of those will be kids that have already committed.

It should really be for uncommitted kids since that's who the colleges really want to see.

Sadly these top 20 teams will be made mostly of committed kids. I agree that they should not be aloud to participate. Heard college coaches were already showing up yesterday! The rich get richer!

Any idea who the call backs go to - ball hogs or ball movers?

Just got an email moving my son to the next round. Good luck to everyone!
BEAT NASSAU!!!

Total scam. They all knew who was getting picked before the try-out, but for the $65, it was an opportunity to see where your kids stands relative to the pack.

My take, other than a very few elite, almost any kid out there can be replaced with any other kid...not really much difference among the pack.

Why they pitch as a recruiting event I will never know. Why would any college come to see a group of 40 boys (20 nassau and 20 suffolk) that have already committed?

My son got recruited due to this event last year. This year we are doing it for rankings. I suppose it is a way for the college coaches to see how their recrits stand compared to others. There will also be about half the team at least that is not recruited yet. Great opportnity for those boys to get noticed among the elite in their grade. I thought is was a great event last year despite a lot of the nonsense that goes on!

The call backs go to the pre-determined coaches picks. Came home disappointed and knew tryout was a joke when I was standing next to a HS coach who told his player "not to worry he is in and it will be official tomorrow." Doesn't anyone have objective viewpoints and integrity anymore?
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Boys 2016 Fall 2013/Summer 2014 -
Too bad this event is allowed to go on as it does. It should not be called a Showcase, but rather an All Star game. Why would commits go to a Showcase? 30 min of play time at best between 2 games, does that really show a players best....many kids could not throw and catch let alone have an IQ for the game. Disappointing to say the least, but plenty of opportunities still ot there
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Boys 2016 Fall 2013/Summer 2014 -
Yes, totally unfortunate. My kid didn't get a call back, but really performed well. It was worth the $65 just to see where he is in relation to the rest.

He now knows he can play at this level with any of the boys, even if we don't have the right connections.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Boys 2016 Fall 2013/Summer 2014 -
Any idea when the Nassau County results of the tryouts will be posted? Still not on the Syosset website.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Boys 2016 Fall 2013/Summer 2014 -
What about those kids who are being recognized as All Division or All County, no call back? Makes no sense at all. Dont the Coaches discuss and give their input on those kids up for recognition?

Based entirely on the tryout - reputation and performance during the season has nothing to do with who gets called back.

The sad part is explaining to your kid the [lacrosse] involved, despite the facy that he made All County as a sophomore. They, the coaches, should step up and refund those not chosen, but that would take integrity which is obviouslynon existent here

There is no way a true assessment can be completed without what you mentioned ( reputation and performance ). The coaches were doing more standing around and talking than they were watching, and most got there long after the tryout started

How are there 64 names on the callback and what kind of game will it be for the boys to show off their abilities.

The express team was a disaster. 29 kids. 4 midfield lines, everyone fighting on the sideline to get in the game. Different coaches every game. Parents pissed off. Kids pissed off. What a mess. Channy suckered everyone in for this supposed Barracuda team. All the committed kids are gone. B team players make up half the team now. Cant compete with good team. Terrible.

Those boys at the second round but not on the first round list were from Massapequa whose team was still playing school ball.

So, the committed kids did not play. I think that giving boys who are not committed a chance to play against very good competition in front of college coaches would be a good thing. I do not have a son on the team but it sounds as if it started as a good idea. Where would the boys on this team be playing if they were not on this team?

Because the picks are not legit. It is who you know and if xyz was left off but coaches push for him his name suddenly appears.

Picks are not legit? If you picked the team, then it would be legit? If you are top player, then the coaches know who you are, pretty simple. If your team is still playing (e.g. Massapequa and Syosset), you are likely pretty good and likely would have moved on to the second round. That being said, it is virtually impossible to evaluate all the boys in a 1 hour game, with each boy getting, short runs.

Then why hold tryouts at all, the coaches should just vote for their top pics like all county. Oh yea, then they can't collect the$$

One Attack for Manhasset was Gavin. Played strong and fast and made a lot of nice plays.

No question Brennan stood on his head. 3rd Quarter at least 9 Saves. Thought arceri and rooney were real good. Nassau attack very good.

Goalie for Suffolk 2nd half outstanding. MVP. Manhasset attackmen were crafty. Rooney on Suffolk really good.

How were f/os ?
Manhasset attackmen or attackman? Only 1 attackman from Manhasset, who was second? And what game were you watching?

One Attack for Manhasset was Gavin. Played strong and fast and made a lot of nice plays.

I must agree with earlier poster What Game Were You Watching ?

It was 2017 Mack for Manhasset that lit it up. Has the most upside of any attack in the Manhasset program. Will be starting with Keough next year. 3rd attack up in the air depending on what they do with Dunn.

What about Gavin? Did you forget about him?

Most upside? You are obviously not from Manhasset or follow the program. Relative perhaps?

If he was good, he would have been on varsity. Dunn will play midfield where he's most needed and can invert when he's not poled. Gavin and Keough are the starters. The question is who fills the right side. Duran, the senior should get first crack.

Swwetlax won A with two LI ringers on board.

91 won AA, but lost soundly to the Sweetlax team last weekend.

Swwetlax from upstate raiding LI key players with "sweet" scholarships! Seems to be working for them!

Dunn is Set's best attack but he's playing out of position and should be moved back and on lefty wing full time. He'd light it up like nobody since English. At middle they are just grinding him down and wearing him out. Watch him at attack in the summer if you get a chance.

He is also their best mid and Set is not as deep at mid as they are at attack.

I am sure the head coach is reading this so he can pick his team for next year. With all this information why hold tryouts

Yes. Read that he had 2 goals and 2 assists. Only Manhasset attack mentioned as doing anything significant in any of the games. He's going to bump somebody out of the Set attack lineup next season.

4 pts playing only half the game against an all-star defense is called "litin' it up!". The screws are turnin' and it's gettin crowded up front.

Hype is only when you can't back it up on the field. Watch what happens this summer and next Spring. Lets revisit next June.

Moving Dunn out of position solved one problem but created another. He's too valuable at attack for them to make that mistake again.

Where is Dunn playing in college? Is he 2016 or 2015? If you had Dunn, Keough and Mack at attack you might have the best attack line on the island. Nice problem to have.

Maybe this guy is right . The coach may try to promote his son on the first midfield line. After all he strong armed the showcase evaluators to put his own kid on the 2016 Roster.

Current Barracudas are not as strong as previously. Committed players no longer on the team, whether playing on a committed team within or outside Express. the expanded roster exposes many of the weaker players, who would not be on this team had it stayed intact. Despite some weaknesses, it is an opportunity for all to be seen

Congrats! But why is this on the 2016 discussion board? Are you trying to make the 2016 kids/parents nervous? The kid didn't even play varsity this year. How is it you expect him to step in and take over? The game you cite was against other 2017s who had never played together. Maybe he's great against his own age, but in order to be a standout he's got to prove himself against 2016s and 2015s who play on a team. Calm your jets.

Nobody cares! Stop promoting your son! Manhasset's Attack is set for next year. Look forward to seeing your son "tear it up" on JV next season.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Boys 2016 Fall 2013/Summer 2014 -
If set is like any other top lacrosse HS, if too deep at attack they will keep the younger down on JV no matter how "good" he is, better to play and start every game than garbage time on Varsity. No way would it happen.

Kevin's mom here. I have waited the 24 hour rule and against perhaps my better judgement am allowing myself to reply here. Neither his parents or any relative are responsible for these posts. We have only viewed the thread because our friends told us of the content. (This 2016 thread seems less vicious than the 2017 thread however)

Kevin's play stands or falls on its own. While its nice that he has supporters, the opportunity for him to contribute to a very deep and talented attack group in Manhasset next year will be determined on the field - not on this or any other forum

After an underwhelming season offensively, nobody is locked in for next year and nobody should feel safe at their position. That would go for Manhasset or any other team that did not live up to its potential.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Boys 2016 Fall 2013/Summer 2014 -
Hey Kevin's mom - your son is an excellent player and is good enough to shake things up next season. The mentality of entitlement that some of the incumbent varsity attack have that they are already "set" is what's wrong with what's going on. When kids feel locked in they don't work as hard. Hopefully your son helps makes the situation uncomfortable so everybody raises their game and the talent on the team, whoever starts, reaches its full potential. Competition for positions is healthy for a team - the more the better. The "locked in" mentality is poison.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Boys 2016 Fall 2013/Summer 2014 -
Competition is good. Just don''t see any Attack coming up displacing what's already there. There's a middie however who may may be ready.

Regardless of where kids have been recruited, the performance on the field did not live up to what anybody would expect. Nobody should feel safe just because the are going to big lax U. Maybe a message needs to be sent.

Been hearing some rumblings. Sends a very bad message. If you make a commitment, you need to stick to it. There are certain reasons I could see like maybey you commit to an Ivy, and your grades suck, otherwise, it is not a descision to take lightly. It's like getting a divorce. St. Anthonies kid decommitted today from Ohio State for no reason. That makes him look terrible!

Pandoras box has been opened and by result of college coaches pushing the commitment earlier and earlier the decommit becomes a tool for the buyer. In this case the rising soph or jr that has a change of heart. Can you blame a 14,15 or 16 yo? My bet is this kid will have a half dozen offers by Friday.

He must have already had another better situation in hand otherwise all of the top-tier (academic or lax) programs are pretty much full with 2015s. Who knows, maybe he decided he'd rather be a 4 year starting stud in D3.

Exactly why pushing for early commits is a huge mistake. Son can't even make up his mind on what he wants for dinner, let alone where he is going to spend 4 years of his life. Can't blame a KID for changing his mind. Parents also need to stop pushing and living their dream through their kids. I agree with poster, Pandora's box is opened
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Boys 2016 Fall 2013/Summer 2014 -
Silly people, the door was opened not by the kids but by the coaches. For most of these early recruits, going to top school will never be a mistake...Having to choose between Ohio State, UNC, Virginia, ND,...not so bad if you ask me.

If a kid can get Ivy (and his parent can afford it) he should de-commit to any of the above.

We should all be so lucky that our kids go to one of these schools...

Wake up people.

Check this out:
http://future150.com/hs/basketball-rankings/2015/

can go by class for NCAA men's basketball for commits:

31 of the top 150 in 2015 class
6 of the top 150 in 2016 class
1 of the top 100 in 2017 class

Just interesting to note how another larger and wildly more competitive NCAA sport goes along on it.

As lacrosse recruiting moves to the way of the money generating sports with the verbal commits; the "de-committing" will become more prevalent.

It is okay, verbals will become like dating not marriage. You go steady with someone (exclusively) until something makes you move on. a Divorce is more like a transfer!

Just curious. Has anyone ever heard of a verbal being rescinded by the school because of a significant injury after the commitment?

Sort of. One Landon 2014 kid who was a verbal to UVa as a sophomore isn't going. He tore his ACL twice, but also had some poor grades. He was not given a letter of intent to sign in December.

What happened to the Barracudas? Heard they are struggling to field complete teams for tournaments. This team was pretty strong when put together

Outlaws with a nice performance thus far at the UA Shootout. Lots of older/big teams. Have beaten Haverford, Washington, Lasalle a few other so far.

Lots of older teams? Rising senior? One year? Who cares?
