I hear that 2022 Igloo had 6 GC players that will not be returning because they are playing town select team. If that is true then theres probably 6-10 openings on Igloo 2022. This is pretty unique for such a good team and a good opportunity kids who cant make the 1-2 slots on Smash

No doubt smash is a good team with a good coach but help me understand what "out coached every time they played" means in 9 year old lacrosse. I coach youth lacrosse and we practice then we play games, we try to do in the games what we practiced. That is about the extent of coaching a 3rd grade game. If you had left it as smash outplayed igloo every time they played I would probably agree. You somehow confused winning a game with one coach out coaching the other. So, safe to say you guys got out coached in Maryland when the diamondbacks beat you? Or all the other losses last year, despite often playing up? I don't think you were out coached, you simply got out played those games.
So we all know that Smash and Igloo are the two best teams. What are the other teams that we should be interested in - based on what you all observed. In terms of coaching and development.
I think that nobody can say which program is better. You have to attend multiple try-outs and see which team is a better fit for your child. Watch coaches and the way they interact with your son or daughter, also watch the other players and parents. Then when the emails come in you decide what fit is best for your child. Just because 91 Smash and Igloo are better teams does not mean they are the best fit for your child. Every kid is different and the grass is not always greener.

If you talk to the kids and the coaches from both organizations they would most likely tell you that they are respectful to each other and always play hard against each other. As parents let us all relax and understand the kids know each other and some are friends, and as parents sit back and watch and enjoy; don't judge, don't write information that isn't productive or that you don't understand. Okay. What are the next three clubs that have the core to compete. Express 2022 they played them both and had some competitive games against them. HDD played 91 united solid and beat them at spring lax jam during pool play.

If it is true that the GC boys are not returning to Igloo to stay in house as mentioned in an earlier post, how will that affect the makeup of the Igloo team next year. Didn't GC make up 50% of the team. Igloo will clearly have a whole new look next year and give a lot of other boys a chance to play for the #2 2022 team on LI. This doesn't happen very often. Also would be curious to see what the GC travel team will look like next year if it is made up of half of the Igloo team from this past year. There must be something in the water in that town. Amazing.

GC didn't make up half of igloo, they were 7 kids on a 22 kid roster. Most of them were second string, but you are a good point, even at this age it's rare to have this many openings on a top team.
Actually there were 10 from GC, but it is water under the bridge now. Best of luck to Igloo in the future.

Enough with the 9yr old prodigy. My son and a few of his friends didn't play club ,yet , and they are just as good if not better than any kid on that team. A lot of kids out there.

I have to agree. If they are athletic and coached properly - they can be very succesful at this age. Because those aforementioned teams do simple things well. Ball movement, clearing, face offs, but they still make 3rd grade mistakes. However, they are more polished and make less than others. But they win because of how well they are coached. Now that said, they need to never stop proving lax IQ or stick skills. That's why when you all hopefully get the email that you son made the team. Ask what's the plan amd its what fits your expectations. My son played from November to July and the imrpovement was astonishing. He loved it and it was worth it.

How do you know your kid and all his buddies are as good or better than everyone on a top youth club team if they never played with or against that quality? You basing this off of your son dominating PAL ball?

Nice and quietly (flying well below the spotlight of the big 2) the 2022 Terps had lower numbers, although decent(40ish) at the tryout, and really solid talent showed up. They will likely add 10+ kids as there was a lot of turnover. However, their core remained. That team will likely be vastly improved.
New to lacrosse and trying to find best fit for our son. Any opinions/advice on what club teams may be appropriate. His skill level is growing quickly -- fast learning curve, but has only played for a year. Not a play maker but can definitely lend support on field. Right now, looking for growth and a solid team to grow with. Clear on the "elite" teams -- harder to navigate through the rest of the field. Any thoughts appreciated. Thank you.

Is most of Smash team this year made up of kids from last year? I'm not trying to start a debate but am curious because I know they were very good last year.
Doesn't look like much turnover. Lost a few kids to other teams but the roster is smaller than last year.

absolutely correct. wouldnt travel unless it is for smash or igloo. smash is clearly the best team beating everyone convincingly. igloo is clearly the number 2 team on the island. also beating everyone convincingly with the exception of smash. all other teams, at least based on last year, are way below these two programs. but keep in mind, smash started playing together and competitively in 2nd grade. all the other teams were playing catch up last year.

From what I saw at the tryouts Team Long Island should be very good this year. A lot of talent there. There was a few smash kids at the try out. My kid did not make the white team which is their A team so where going back to the club he played with this past year.

The Port Washington Teams 2021 and down are all starting to play together and are going to be very good. Great coaches trying to keep it home. Its a big town with a big pool of kids, leadership needs some work though.
A town team losing to a stacked club team full of igloo and smash players by one with 30 seconds left in the game says a lot about leadership and coaching. Port should be proud of what they are getting done.

I asked about house of pain last year as I saw them play and they were very good. The answer I was given was that they are a bunch of kids from different towns. Many have played together before. CSH, syosset, garden city, Roslyn, mineola. Some play club ball some don't, varying levels of skill just coming together to play lax.

i am a parent of a boy on the house of pain team that played port washington. the team has some boys from smash, some boys from igloo and some from other teams. it's a very good team. the port washington team also has a few boys from igloo. it was a great game and lots of fun to watch. that as well as the amazing skills of some of hte boys from both teams are the only things worht discussing about this game!!

I agree. The name calling and bashing is such nonsense. It is nice to hear about how teams shaped up coming out the blocks. But to put down a team makes no sense. I was at three difference tryouts and they were all well attended. This age group comes down to how well the boys are coached. Remember this group now can use poles... Travel 4th grade PAl 5th.

Also please don't use the word Elite to describe 9 year olds... do you think Archie Manning ever told Eli or Peyton they were elite when they were 9? Doubt it, probably still doesn't.

PW 2021 team played a Huntington team that seemed to have a good number of club players as well. Close physical game. Nice to see town teams being competitive. Not sure what the outcome was, but that team also seemed to be holding their own.
I'm thrilled that someone has taken the time out to update everyone on the rankings of the 2022 age group.
Seriously get a life. These are 8 and 9 year old kids. My son plays on Smash and I could care less where you "rank" them and who the number 2 teams are.
The important thing is that your child should be playing where he is going to enjoy the experience and get better.

There were Port kids at the Outlaws and True Blue tryouts for some of these years. I don't think they are all playing for the town team only.

In addition to playing on tournament teams the Port Washington boys ill be doing town based tournaments which helps the feeder system to the high school. Get off your high horse.

Academics, Music, Drama, Singing, dancing etc... and yes Athletics, in order to reach ones full potential it would be better to be in the company of the "better, smarter, more talented" players, singers, dancers, musicians, students, athletes, etc...
Bay Shore, Three Village, Port Washington, SWR, ESM all have strong HS programs with players going to play in college and they play tournament ball as a town team.
Not questioning who has strong HS Programs. Questioning the logic of thinking that only playing with kids who happen to live in the same district is the best way to develop a player.

Simply being on a good team does not equate to a player reaching their potential.
Garden City, Manhasset, CSH, Chaminade, Saint Anthony's, Syosset, Massapequa etc... also have had very strong HS teams. Many of their kids have also played outside of the town. I think if you were to compare how the top players have done in their college careers you would find that the kids who expanded their "lacrosse world" have outpaced the others. Or better yet, compare how they compare in college to the kids that come out of the MIAA.
Never said the players would not be "good" I said they would not reach their potential.
Lacrosse is growing rapidly across the country, it is becoming more competitive everyday. If you think that The Long Island Kids will keep pace by limiting their lacrosse experience continue to push to the town only model.
But yet once again the question was not answered.
Please identify another sport or activity where the best in the world think that the best way to develop is to "play, train, compete, participate" with others who only live in their town.

I think this is a debate that will go on forever. I don't know what the right answer is. In MY Opinion and I am not an expert, I would think that the more you have your stick in your hand the better you can become. I also believe that you need to play with and against better players to get better. Others have different opinion and I respect that. What I think is wrong is that these coaches say you go outside our program you will never play here. Bottom line is that if the player is better he or she should play. We need to remove all politics from these school programs. We all pay taxes, take the politics out and take the better players no matter where they played at the youth level.

Fair comment, for most teams and players all year is all good fun. For a select group even at this young age such as igloo, 91, team li etc. the summer tournament season is not just good fun but they actually want to win. Different kids develop that instinct at different ages or not at all... And it's all good. But the fact that some 9/10 year olds get intense about winning is a reality. Maybe your kid plays lax but is competitive about wood working or puppet designing, it's all good

Smash beat Igloo by 1 in finals. Manhasset 32 looked legit, although they have 3 or 4 Older boys that are U10 not 4th graders.

No that is not true at all. Every boy on the 2022 team is in 4th Grade, just like every kid on the 2 2021 teams is in 5th grade and so on and so on. Good lacrosse players with good coaching. Nothing more, Nothing less.

Yes if your 12yo son is in 8th grade then he must be a Nov/Dec 2000 baby (or accelerated; count your blessing). I am quite sure you may know a few boys that might be turning 14 or even 15 that are in 8th grade.
14 being the boys who may have started school late Nov/Dec 1999 birthdates but the vast majority are 13 by now. 15 yo are late starts that got left back
An 11yo in 4th grade is definitely questionable especially on an elite team. 4th grade should typically be U9. I understand this is not typical hence the discussion. If there is an 11yo on a 4th grade team he should be playing in 5th grade. I dont care his size. maybe he should not be playing elite 4th but B 5th.
A 4th grader with a late 3rd qtr 2003 birthdate would just be turning 10. Now if that late start child got held back he would be 11 and a lot bigger and mature (if that is such a thing in 4/5th ). and should not play 4th but 5th!

Second, Pannell is not the norm. He PG'd after HS, he did not get held back in 3rd grade. Then got hurt in College . (all after HS where physical maturity "should" be a level field)
Now, I fully understand about the late birthdates (whether sept-dec) as my prior post outlines that. I also understand what people are doing. But, mysteriously players with birthdates Jan - Aug who have started kindergarten with the "age-mates" have been held back (not for academic reasons). As the case is to be rumored on a few highly touted 2020 teams.
And now you suggest those players who are already old for their grade get held back again. What are we in texas or florida and the players have a shot at the NFL. What is the end game here.

I believe rob pannell was born dec 11 1989 which means he's turning 25. So he was a 24 yr old college senior. If he entered into school at the appropriate time he should have graduated college in 2011. But because he pged then gamed the ivy system maintaining eligibility he added 2 years to his timeline. I would think it will be very difficult if not impossible for these younger 4th graders to compete as 17 yr old college freshman against 23 yr old men.

Your naive about the sport if you're making this comment. In our area, LI, the school cutoff date is Dec 1. So you're saying if a parent decides to have their child repeat a grade that was born sept, oct, nov that that's cheating? They will STILL Be younger than others outside of LI. For example MD, where their cutoff date is Sept 1? And not to mention that many parents in Md often opt to hold their kids back or start late. Add on top of that a redshirt or pg year and you have the Pannell Syndrome - an almost 25 yr old senior. Did he cheat? Well all I know is that he won the tewarrton. First off, isn't Pannell only 23 not 25. A late birthday (Dec), did a PG year and got Medically redshirted (technically left school however you want to call it since ivy's donot allow 5h yr seniors).
Second, Pannell is not the norm. He PG'd after HS, he did not get held back in 3rd grade. Then got hurt in College . (all after HS where physical maturity "should" be a level field)
Now, I fully understand about the late birthdates (whether sept-dec) as my prior post outlines that. I also understand what people are doing. But, mysteriously players with birthdates Jan - Aug who have started kindergarten with the "age-mates" have been held back (not for academic reasons). As the case is to be rumored on a few highly touted 2020 teams.
And now you suggest those players who are already old for their grade get held back again. What are we in texas or florida and the players have a shot at the NFL. What is the end game here.
So to me... IMO... if a late 3rd qtr birthday who is already old for their grade then gets held back a year they should not play grade ball, of course there are issues that may make this an unusual situation like illness or injury, but in usual healthy child (who I assume is since he is playing summer travel lax) it should not be allowed.

It's crazy that this discussion continues...4th grade and 2022 are the same, your kid can be 9, 10, 11 or 16 if he is in 4th grade he is 2022 and 4th grade eligible. You are correct, u-10 is born on or after 9/1/2003.

2022 team igloo won the championship over Li outlaws at the fall finale. I believe 2021 igloo also won over outlaws in the championship so good showing for LI lacrosse.

Right now I can gather up the 20 best lax kids I know and beat smash, not close not express or igloo. Just get together 20 of the best lax kids around who don't play for smash. No insult to smAsh, great kids and great coaching but let's not get out of control at 10 years old. Point is pipe down have some fun the boys are 10 and always remember as good as your kid is there is better and at any time someone can assemble 15-20 kids that can smoke your team.

91 Smash won U11. Competition was good. Fun to play teams from off LI. CT, Mass, Westchester, New Hampshire and NJ were all represented in the bracket. Kids had a blast.

Minutemen is the A team (Terps now B) and they tied united 6-6 at the Havoc. In fact, every game (including last year when they were named the Terps) until Sunday has been very competitive. FYI United added two of the better kids from that Express as well.

Let me sum up 2022. Last year Smash and Igloo were in league by themselves with Smash clearly the #1 team and Igloo #2. This year United has entered the top tier in this age bracket. While they lost to Igloo at the Havoc, it was a close game that could have gone either way. So now Smash, Igloo and United are the top tier of this bracket. Smash is #1 until someone proves othewise. Team LI is supposed to be good but they do not seem to play at many of the tournaments. After this is probably Express who are solid but not in the class of top 3. The same could probably be said for Jesters. Then you have a number of teams that are clearly B level - Outlaws, Express B team, fl$, Legacy.
Before we put United into the upper tier: Express Minuteman has over 10 new players from last year. They tied United at Halloween Havoc. They played United back to back this past weekend (no break between games) while United got to rest a game. Express clearly tired at the end last week (and were also man-down 6 times). Express was also missing 2 of it's best players. Before we go jumping to any conclusions about United and where they belong let's just see how things play out. It has been 2 tournaments - everyone relax. This Express team will come together...

Smash and United are with the same oraganization with 2 very good coaches and assistants as well! Both teams have children who attend the same school, play PAL together and parents that are friends. this whole thing is funny - guess you're bored and want to stir it up. that's fine - as long as we can keep it friendly - it makes for good entertainment. i have nothing to do with 91 but my son competed against both teams and smash is clearly the better team. but again, it is 4th grade, things change, teams recruit, players (um.. parents) team swap, etc, etc... good news we all have about 6-8 years to talk about this. i can tell you one thing with the lax club saturation - you better start putting grades first or it won't matter how good your son is.

Yes ash beat igloo by one goal in havoc and yes igloo won a fall tournament in princeton. Too early to tell who has lost stean and who Has gotten better but they are both good teams
You guys all need to relax and enjoy the fact that your child is in 4th grade and playing such a high level of lacrosse. It is amazing to me that so many of you come on here and bash 9 year old boys. It is a marathon not a sprint. They have 8 more years of lacrosse ahead of them. Enjoy the games and be thankful that your son is healthy and playing at such an incredible level at such a young age. I marvel at the talent everyday I watch these boys play. You should not care at this age if the team is winning, what should matter is are they getting better, and are they enjoying the game. In all honesty the crazy parents are the ones u find out never played sports in their life. Usually the big out of shape moms who have the loudest mouths. Then the fathers who try and live out their athletic dreams through their kids by putting them in every clinic/camp and talk bad about other kids. It's time and time again the same type of people doing this. Or the best the type of guy is the one who talks up their high school career to find out they were not that good. That's the best to call out those types. And people trust me u know who u are.

News flash folks as they all get older everyone tends to start catching up to each other. you have no idea at this age about the kid who has yet to pick up a stick and will be good. the kid who can barely catch at this age yet goes on to star on a varsity team or the kid that is great at this age but ends up quiting because his parents are crazy and the kid doesn't want to do it anymore. Have seen it play out. You all need to just relax folks and let your kid (not you) enjoy this time

If you enter the Shamrock or Pro Player you'll likely meet up with them. Plus you'll likely see the next level of teams like the Express Minutemen who finished out their fall with back to back undefeated tourneys.

TLI 2022 white never played igloo last year, maybe that was the B team, they did play 91 united 3 times last year and beat them 2 out of 3 times. All of these young teams are going to be good, to start lax at such a young age, the future is bright for all LI youth lacrosse players. Think about where they will be in 5 years.

We keep hearing Team LI is good, and have no reason to think that is not the case, but it is hard to verify that since they do not play in many of the tournaments the other top teams do. 91 United and Express are really improved. My humble opinion based on observations and results so far is: 1 - 91 Smash, 2 - Igloo, 3 - 91 United, 4 - Express. I know there are a number of other travel teams out there for this age group (Outlaws, HDD, Legacy) but I don't think any of those teams are in the league of the big 4.

I've never seen them play either. No doubt it's Smash ,Igloo , United as top three. Shamrock should be a nice preview to see how these teams improve over the winter. I hear United coach is very good . Smash is very big . BTW I'm an Igloo parent . It should be a fun season.

Agreed, as a GC parent our boys should have spent the year working on their basic lax skills last year and not playing club ball. They are good athletes but still need lax skill building. By the end of this year they should be able to hold their own on most club teams.

Actually they will all be 10 by summer if not already. United lost by 1 to Igloo at Havoc in a game that could have gone either way. I know that was 3 months ago but some teams have been working their buts off. Enough with who's better than who. Find out soon enough.
From what I've seen, the top teams at this age group in the Northeast are Diamondbacks and Smash, with Diamondbacks having to be at the top because of their head to head win. The next level is some mix of Igloo, Cannons (MD), Team Long Island and United.
Best part of this debate is that these teams will all be playing each other over the summer. Let them settle it on the field.

The top teams usually don't add kids now - but they hold an open tryout in September. However, nothing wrong with reaching out now to the clubs. Tell them your situation and see if they'll evaluate him. Start with 91 and Express. Only because you should get a response from them and they have multiple teams. More closer to you is Team Long Island and little further is the Outlaws. Any of those four clubs will provide quality instruction.

They all pretend to cheer for other kids on the team and secretly they are all so insecure and nervous that they wish the worst for everyone else on their team and the best for their son. When coach yells at a kid the parent of that kid goes nuts, I have seen it, usually pulls him aside after the game and screams at him until he cries. See, the beauty of not being on that team is we can genuinely cheer for our team and genuinely enjoy ourselves and enjoy good competition. We have all seen the nervous parents and the miserable kids getting screamed at by the coach and nobody envies you. Every team has 3-5 kids better than your son. Luckily your coach has been winning, b/c when he doesn't you can be sure there will be a squad the next year.

Instead of wasting time on here commenting on a team your son isnt on, why dont you have a catch with your son so he has a better chance at the next tryout! Maybe a clinic or a lesson perhaps? Most, if not all of these kids do extra training outside of practice! Parents take it on themselve to coordinate extra training and other teams to play on with fellow members on their team to get the kids better! Town and B teams may not do as much training or practices as A teams and are still developmental teams which are fine as well and a good place to start!

Yes, real comical to say that Smash is No. 1 when they have not lost to a LI 2022 team. That's just so funny! This subject line has become absurd at this point . We all know that Smash is the best team at this age at this point. And yes, I am a Smash daddy. And guess what, I would also say that Igloo is excellent. They are No. 2 because they have yet to beat Smash, but they are very good. After that, 91 United, Team LI, and Express complete the A teams. Outlaws, HDD, etc. are the B teams. Sorry, all of this is pretty much clear at this point.

Anyway, here is the funny thing can you image if smash loses a tournament, the parents heads will explode, kids will get punished etc. if igloo or united or express don't win a tournament but have fun and play good ball nico by cares. Have you ever seen the smash parents on sidelines, they are so nervous and anxious. They all pretend to cheer for other kids on the team and secretly they are all so insecure and nervous that they wish the worst for everyone else on their team and the best for their son. When coach yells at a kid the parent of that kid goes nuts, I have seen it, usually pulls him aside after the game and screams at him until he cries. See, the beauty of not being on that team is we can genuinely cheer for our team and genuinely enjoy ourselves and enjoy good competition. Must be fun for smash kids and parents, oh my bad it's not about fun right?
This is an amazing pile of crap. Stick to your own team. If Smash was such a terrible experience for the kids, they wouldn't hang out together as much as they do off the field the turnover would probably be a lot higher than 1-2 kids every year.

Funny when a smash parent gets mad...maybe they hang out together because half the team is from the same town. We have all seen the nervous parents and the miserable kids getting screamed at by the coach and nobody envies you. Every team has 3-5 kids better than your son. Luckily your coach has been winning, b/c when he doesn't you can be sure there will be a squad the next year.

Dad's yes but highly qualified. I think there should be a distinction of dad coaches with no experience and those who you would want to be coaching your son anyway.
When picking a team, do your homework! Don't decide on what you hear, goto your computer and do a google search on the coach! The 2022 91 A team has 3 coaches, yes dads, but all played at the highest level and are the best coaches at this age group!

We have kids north shore and south shore from Port Jeff to the Nassau/Queens border and kids from NYC too. The good clubs will take kids with talent or potential from anywhere

Part of it just has to do with where these teams practice. Parents are busy with jobs, other kids, etc. and may gravitate to a team that practices near their homes. I am in Nassau. There are fantastic travel teams out in Suffolk but it is not realistic for my wife and I to drive our son there.

That is spot on with our team....based south shore though. And even when the child is more skilled than many other teammates, the politics come into play. It's where you are on the rung that determines position/play time no matter where you go.
First priority...kids with older siblings in the program. Second priority, the coaches children. Then the coaches local team players. Finally, the bottom rung is the few players outside the system who get placed in a 'specialty position' where their talents can't out shine the others.
So, when more kids from the higher rungs tryout the following year, the bottom rung gets the boot. Bottom rung are 'spot holders' for future roster changes. That's my experience and unfortunately, my child is one of two outside the system players. I saw it last year or two, but looked the other way...and now...getting a rude awakening, but accepting the reality. Get the most out of it this year, decide if the solution is to move on next year.

I am not a 91 guy but I must say Smash is too good to play with the 2022 teams. In fact Smash could have played in the 2021 A bracked and beat many teams there. As for fl$ all the teams were short many players because Shamrock was an extra event that had to be purchased with a group of other extra events. Many kids from all fl$ teams did not attened shamrock. Did it matter? I don't know because Spring lax does not mean much. There are teams that have been practicing and playing games together all winter and there are other teams that have not. By July we will know where all the teams stand.

I am sure if you look at each roster carefully, every team will have one or more kids that could be in the year ahead. If it was developmentally correct move to start school late, than as long as there is no age cut off for grade based lax tournaments and games, your argument is pointless. The moment teams have to start playing with a birth certificate in hand, you will see ALL teams have some players shift.

What's your problem buddy? Team 32 is the name of the Manhasset tournament team (as opposed to the several balanced teams that are entered in the PAL league). All the kids are from Manhasset. So it is a town team. Other towns (Port Washington) do the same thing. They have tournament teams made up of the better players from there town teams and they enter them in town tournament. Nothing wrong with that pal. Move on.
A lot of towns do this now with their younger grades before they separate the boys by talent in the 5th grade into A, B and C teams. Three Village, PW, GC, Farmingdale, RVC, CSH to name a few are also doing this so it is all good in my book. Manhasset32 is definitely a town team and they are the team to beat in the A division of Town team tournaments and this is coming from another town team coach who recently played them in a friendly round robin.
I think Team Smithtown and CSH are right up there with 32

The two select teams played each other for the first time last Saturday and it was a very close one goal game. All previous games were PAL balanced teams.

Team LI beat united very soundly in Stony Brook last year. They also added a few players that are huge additions to their team. I have no clue who they can or can not beat but they are very good.

Who's pumping fist? Im an express dad who saw team LI play for the first time and I was very impressed. They were real strong in cage and their ball movement was fantastic. We couldn't stop them especially once team LI got the ball in their offensive end. We had no answers for their attack.

The game was close going into the second half so there was reason to cheat if they wanted to. The refs called the game fair. Smash won and we lost that simple. Thanks smash parent but we all know 91 run tournaments are stacked in 91 favor from their schedule to refs. No big deal smash is excellent but better to just keep quiet and enjoy. I was at shamrock my son was playing on the field above the turf and I heard a commotion on the turf it was igloo vs a 91 team, I watched 10 minutes of it and saw some refs that should favored the 91 team in a way like I have never seen before. 91 is a great organization based on their results and would probably win regardless but don't pretend they don't stack their tournaments

Are you kidding me? Igloo has beaten united every time with the exception of this years shamrock shootout. I have never ever seen a game like that. The bias was off the charts. The one ref, didn't even know the rules. Every call was so blatantly wrong it was embarrassing. Igloo played half the game a man down. Almost every united goal was when they were a man up. Those refs were a disgrace , and to think they were paid for that performance. United is a GOOD Team. But don't gloat over that performance. You are better than that. In all my years around lacrosse, I have never seen anything like the calls made in that game.

The Diamondbacks 2022 team is Hammel and they went undefeated in the NPYLL U11A (2022) regular season this year.
The Diamondbacks 2021 team is Roth and they are about as good as the Diamondbacks 2022 team. I believe the 2021 team lost to the 2022 team during the indoor season this winter.
Also in the 9/10A Beach Lax Red division are the Annapolis Hawks Green (2022). I believe they are the last team to beat the 2022 Diamondbacks and that happened during the indoor season. The 2022 Hawks lost their only NPYLL regular season game to the 2022 Diamondbacks.
There are also a lot of 5th grade (2021) teams in 9/10A Beach Lax division that are not playing in the Grade Based 2021 division that will make it very hard on the 2022 teams.

2022 is a graduation year, not a birthday year cutoff. Apparently, NPYLL makes allowances for 5 'reclassified' or redshirted kids. None of the NPYLL teams may be 'true' by your interpretation, but they are following the league rules.

You are talking about a 9 yr old goalie??? Seriously- how sad is it to call out a goalie at 9 yrs old??? Most kids do not even want to try that position- once they get hit- that is enough for them. He has many years to learn and obviously they saw something in him to take him on. Give the kid credit for taking on this position. There may be better goalies at this age- but I doubt anyone at this age is that consistent. I certainly hope the kid does not read this himself, how hurtful and sad for a grown adult to be calling out a 9 yr old playing this position.
My son's team played them a few times and we all thought the goalie was great and yes any kid that plays goalie at this age has guts.

Apparently you are not a 91 parent. I would hardly call a 1 point win a dominating victory to settle things once and for all. These 'flukes' will occur very often the more you play each other. It would be nice to see the results on a real field using real rules instead of the poor beach lax conditions. (There is also another whole day to the tourney)

Nobody said anyone cheated. Point was that Smash and United were both true U10 teams playing in a U11 division. Fact is that they could go to this tournament again next year and play in U11 again.

Instead of arguing about which team is the best, you should have been paying attention to your kids. Yes, remember them? They were the ones out on the beach, in the pool, on the field, at the resteraunts, and guess what? They were all enjoying their time together! YES believe it or not both Smash kids and United kids were all having fun TOGETHER!! The parents here are the real issue. This is YOUTH lacrosse guys, come on, really!? These boys for the most part will continue to grow and play together for years to come regardless of what teams they play on. IF we are lucky enough. Let me put things in perspective for you ALL. They are KIDS!! If we are lucky the will grow to be HEALTHY, young men. Here are some names I know many of you have heard of, Nick Colleluori, Nate Greenberg, Thomas Napoli, Wyatt Klute, Steven Bartlett. If you don't know who they are look them up. Every day is a gift! Do you think it's important to their parents what youth lacrosse team they played on? Give it a rest! The things being said on here are disgusting. Look, we all watched this weekend, and ALL the kids played hard. Its the adults that are obsessing about it. The kids forgot about it the minute they stepped off the field and onto the beach. How about saying something positive once in a while. It looks pathetic for adults to feel better about themselves by putting down kids. Lead by example!
This is very well said. However, when these dads get possessed with the demon that makes them live thru their child's athletic accomplishments, they completely ignore the truly important points you brought up. It certainly sounds like that there are many dads in that category in this age.

I just do not think anyone thinks it is a big deal. They beat both teams on Saturday and had an off day on Sunday I suppose. What is to talk about? Why would we not talk about them beating both teams on Sat.? Because they all faired the same in the end. Not very interesting or worthy of talk if you ask me. Aside for the fact, they are 5th graders and have ways to grow and learn. I suspect they will remember the day on the beach with their families and teammates, more than the tournament- the way it should be.

I agree. It's not a knock on TLI. In fact, I think their age based rather than grade based approach may be best given all the cheesy grade holding back that goes. But if we are looking at it from a grade perspective and TLI has 5th graders on the team then they should not be in the discussion with teams that have only 4th graders.

Graduating years are not age groups, being in 5th grade doesn't make you older then a 4th grade student, you could be a young 5th grader (10 year old) or an older 4th grader(10 year old), both the same age,when the parents decided on when to send them to school is the factor. I guess Stony Brook lax clash doesn't mean anything, TLI beat United twice, But that's OK rank them dead last because ranking a 2022 team is ridiculous.

Is this conversation based on the grade or the age of the players? If United is now considered a U11 team, not a U10 team since US Lacrosse does not currently break it down by single years, then having a 5th grader on the team is fair game if they were born on or after 9/1/2002... And that's the problem with the current format of two year blocks. US Lacrosse needs to get their act together and follow in the footsteps of travel soccer by having each age group representing separately, U9, U10, U11, etc... and each player has a photo ID that is presented to the officials before each game... This would end this whole debate and the playing fields would be level for all involved.

I am surprised to see them competing in the U11A division of this tournament. I doubt there are any 2022 teams that could beat them with any consistency. Well run tournament and great competition in Maryland. Igloo parent here, if you are from LU and you have never come to Maryland for lacrosse, you should. Great competition and good sportsmanship. Our second year and win or lose we have great things to say about this tournament and the Maryland teams.

Dbacks 2022 are crazy good for a predominately 4th grade team. Kudos to them for getting so far against so many predominately 5th grade teams. I have a feeling they will be the measuring stick against which all other MD 2022 teams will be measured for many years to come. I just hope they are not picked apart by the Crabs or FCA or other clubs that are just in it for the attention.

I know they are 10 but as long as we are all nuts about lax can we ignore that a select town team, manhasset 32 has beaten one of the best elite travel all-in $3,000 a year teams in igloo every time they have met. A town team beats every top travel team other than smash. Maybe there is something to keeping a group of kids together for years vs. taking new kids every year or maybe town coaching is better than travel, stirring the pot? Maybe, but certainly opening a discussion as to whether one should pay $3,000 just to get fancy gear.
There are a lot of factors into why certain TOWN teams experience more success than others. Good Coaching is one important factor. Both knowledge and also how the coaches are able to relate to the kids is critical ... but there is also another factor that doesn't get discussed. Everyone thinks that their kid is the next Lax Super Star.. and one way to help is to MOVE into a school district that greatly supports the sport. I know that some people MOVE into a school district JUST for that reason alone. It happens. Not saying it happens in Manhasset specifically - but it happens on L.I.
That town has elite coaching no different then a Travel Team. Most towns are coached by someones DAD

There isn't ONE 11 year old on the Manhasset 32 2022 boys team. Don't be so bitter.

When I think of lacrosse on Long Island they are one of the first towns that come to mind along with G.C.,Farmingdale, West Islip etc. Towns with this type of lacrosse tradition have the numbers when it comes to the sport of lacrosse. Towns that get 35-40 kids to come out for lacrosse generally will have a tough time hanging with a team that has 75-80 kids that come out for the lacrosse team. Throw a good coach into the mix and you have a pretty good recipe for a successfull team. Hats off to the guys out there that are trying to build this in their home towns , but right now if you believe that kids get better by playing with and against better kids...travel is the way to go.

Hats off to the guys out there that are trying to build this in their home towns , but right now if you believe that kids get better by playing with and against better kids...travel is the way to go.

Helps to have athletic big kids as well. I recall seeing 4-5 kids that were a full head taller than kids on our team.

From what I read here manhasset has a town team better than all of those teams and team LI may be better also. So these teams are some combination of ranked 4-6 on LI. Seems smash is number 1, with nobody even close. Seems like a huge waste of money just so parents can say their kids are with a "top" organization. For half the price my son can get equal training, less pressure and more play time which equals more fun. Am I missing something?

What makes you think you would get equal training, less pressure and more play time on a town team? my personal experience, my kid got better playing on a B team without Daddy town coaches playing town politics. And his town team almost cost me the same amount as having him play for a travel team after all the "extras" were added. So, you need to find the best fit for your kid and family, that might be town or travel and it might not be on an A team.

I agree 100 percent. Most teams charge thousands of dollars and only give 8-14 practices and 5 tournaments. Many kids sit on the bench. My question is how does a kid get better with limited practice in the spring and summer and nothing or very little in the fall and winter? I know igloo has practice all year which is great but they have parent coaches. Paying thousands of dollars and not practicing all yea or with parent coaches works great for the club's profit but not too good for the kids.

Everyone needs to remember that it is not a sprint, it is a marathon. I am enjoying watching my son compete at this high level and am amazed at how good these boys are for 10 years old.

Manhasset 32 is #2 team on Long Island - all the best were at LaxFest and they came in second. United is right there but until they all play again they'll have to wait to make any claims.
I'm a Igloo parent! My son has gotten training since November, played in 12 winter indoor league games, 14 winter indoor practices, 25 - 35 outdoor practices, and a lot of extras that is all included in the program and including over 6 tournaments. All included. If we are judging programs, then judge them on how much better your son gets throughout the program. And in my case, my son has gotten better; a lot better. And in the end if he is having fun; which he is having a blast, and getting better at the game he loves, then I see that as a win, win.

Diamondbacks are the equivalent of smash on LI. If we can all agree that smash is by far the best team, then I can assure you that nobody will give diamondbacks real competition other than smash. No disrespect, igloo, united and team LI are all decent teams but diamondbacks is a different level.

If you are going to play up, then play in the A division. Winning in the B division isn't as impressive as it sounds. Smash can't win the championship in the A so they play the B. They are a very good team, but they want the t-shirts and the picture showing that they won. Youth sports has become a business at the expense of our kids !!

Really?? How did they do at Pro Player playing 5th grade "A", or up at Yale playing 5th/6th grade "A", or at JDRF playing 5th grade "A"? You have no clue what you are talking about.
Can't speak for pro-player but the Yale bowl is so so and I am sure they picked who they wanted to play in the JDRF. I don't disagree that Smash is a good team just don't make a big deal out of playing up when the competition isn't that strong.

The point is that those 9/10 year olds are constantly challenged playing whoever is put in front of them. Icon Orange, Garden City 5th grade A, all 5th grade express teams etc. Its funny how it wasn't an issue when the lost to wildcats at laxclash last year in a year up B division. Worry about your own team and for the record the T-Shirts looks great.

hey are U-10 and next year will be U-11 and will play in the nationals which actually checks. They have played and won multiple tournaments where US Lacrosse numbers and rosters were required.

I have no knowledge one way or another but are you suggesting that they are not a U-10 compliant team and therefore if they kept their team intact next year they could not play in the U-11 nationals?

Igloo 2022 is both U10 and all 4th graders with the exception of a 3rd grader.

Smash and TLI on collision course for the ship here at NXT. TLI is really talented, would like to see then more on LI. Don't know why they don't play more, NXT is grade based.
Smash plays United in the semis at NXT today. This should put to rest any debate, may the better team win. Winner likely gets TLI. Igloo didn't make the playoff bracket, which would have been cool to see these 4 have at it.

For 2300 dollars you should be able to miss 5 kids and still be competitive. Haven't these boys played together since October?
Congrats Smash on winning the NXT cup from a TLI parent. It was nice to see 3 out of 4 teams from Long Island make it to the semis. Nice job by all.

We on Long Island are spoiled by having such great 4th grade teams here.
Smash, Team Long Island white, Igloo, United and Express Minutemen. All these teams have left Long Island to play in tournaments and brought home Championships in AA divisions. I am proud of the way ALL of these boys have represented Long Island. The talent at this grade is very impressive. Looking forward to watching these boys continue to improve and hopefully close the gap with Smash. That being said Smash is still the top dog here on Long Island and will be until one of the others finally beat them. Good Luck to all of these boys in the future

We on Long Island are spoiled by having such great 4th grade teams here.
Smash, Team Long Island white, Igloo, United and Express Minutemen. All these teams have left Long Island to play in tournaments and brought home Championships in AA divisions. I am proud of the way ALL of these boys have represented Long Island. The talent at this grade is very impressive. Looking forward to watching these boys continue to improve and hopefully close the gap with Smash. That being said Smash is still the top dog here on Long Island and will be until one of the others finally beat them. Good Luck to all of these boys in the future...

I agree - and if we are talking LI teams...some really good players on Igloo, Jesters and Outlaws @ NXT Cup. I don't think that these three teams are that far behind the rest.. The one difference maker that I saw was that these three teams were exposed at several positions during their respective games. While teams like 91 and TLI seem very solid substitution after substitution.

On the Field next to them TLI was in a battle with Mesa Fresh that TLI won in OT. Unbelievable high level lacrosse being played by all 4 clubs.
Smash is Clearly #1. I think only 1 to 2 goals separates United, TLI, Igloo, Express and Team 32.

Yup.. and maybe with some movement from team to team for current club players and perhaps some completely new players entering the Club Scene - these upgrades to existing teams may help narrow the gap between the upper tier and the middle tier. We will see. Especially with try-outs kicking in over the next two months.

You are the same idiot who talks about kids tying their shoes. It's a shame that you son was still goofing around at their age and probably still doesn't play half as good as these kids. 2022 is no joke.
No relation to them at all, but Arden 2022 Diamondbacks are a strong 2022 team. I believe they only lost by a couple goals to Smash early in June and generally appear to be the leading 2022 team in the Md-DC area. Again, it's just kids, but should be some good U11AA games and lacrosse played over the next 12 months among all the teams mentioned above.
Do most of the Fall tournaments to be attended by LI teams age up on September 1 per U.S. Lacrosse age guidelines or will they keep Summer 2014 age rules?

I would go for the Express. That team collected a nice core and should be all caught up by next year. They should be able to beat the top teams by next spring.

Express roster actually got smaller a player left the team during the winter after tryouts there was 22 players and season ended with 21
Long Island tournaments go by Grad year. It does not matter what the date is the 2020's play 2020 every year...

Smash, United, & TLI have turnover on their rosters every year. If you think your son is good enough to make one of those teams then definitely bring him to try out...If he is, they will take him

Agreed. I would also include Daler Nation, Garden City, 3 Village and Port Washington into the mix as top town teams. If they are able to keep the boys together in house for the long term, I can't wait to see what they look like in a few years.
It will be interesting to see what happens this year with the town v. travel approach. Manhasset, 3V and Garden City have moved to the town approach where their kids only play for their town (non PAL) teams and they don't play travel. The other good town teams - CSH, Smithtown, Northport, Port Washington, Farmingdale come to mind - still have their top kids playing travel. It will be interesting to see if that continues or they move to the town model.
CSH will continue to allow their players to play for travel teams. CSH has talented teams in rising 7th. 6th and 5th but pool of kids is too small and if a few buck the system to play travel and were to be shut out of town as a result, they could not compete at the same level. Its a matter of numbers. The bigger towns can afford to have a few top players not play for the town and still compete.
If a player is going to continue to develop he must play with other kids that are either at the same level as he or above. Too many "TOWN" teams only have a handful of such players due to the small size of their School Districts. Shame on those "Towns" that frown upon a player wanting more out of lacrosse than the Town can currently deliver. These are 10 year olds.. let them play and develop.

There are a number of up and coming 2022 teams such as Jesters, Legacy and Outlaws. Each have some good players and at anytime the tables could turn. Time and coaching will tell if these kids stay together.

Agreed. But what if your town A team beats club teams regularly and the varsity coaches are involved in the town's spring and summer seasons? Then what? Do you still need a club to get the necessary looks for the showcases...
Agreed. Another strong reason to let the kids play outside travel.
I would agree with that the jesters look like a team up and coming not there yet but they have a few really good players on that team the Outlaws two if they can keep what they have and add some better players they might close the gap with Igloo or United and Express but I bet Igloo is not going to get worse I am sure they will go out and get some better players same with United its a good 2022 class of boys well see what happens next year fun to watch

You do because the top team showcases are all invite only. I am not anti town summer lax. I am anti making a kid feel like he has to choose.
Looks like igloo is playing in stowe, tv against manhasset 32 should be a good matchup. Based on igloos website the 2022 team played 3 of 5 tournaments out of state, just sayin, that plus $3,500 is a big nut. Let's hope they can beat the town team of 32
Agreed- no one should dictate what is best for your child. The town teams try to say that there are conflicts between town and club teams. That is not the case. They are just holding players back from reaching their full potential. Ultimately, by making people choose, all they really are are bully's.
Why drive 10 hours to go play a town team from LI ? Why the [lacrosse] can't we have tournaments every weekend here? What , not enough resteraunts , or beaches or hotels for the out of towners ? We are the only nuts who love to throw our $$ away traveling all over to just wind up playing another LI team in the finals.

Driving that far is a little much. But I will say that the players love going to Pennsylvania, Delaware, Md., N.J. etc. to play. They have a blast staying in the hotel with their teammates. They remember that stuff as much as the games. A little traffic on the Belt and Jersey Turnpike is worth it.

Travel is great experience for kids and families. travelling 4 out of 5 tournaments is crazy. Going to VT is crazy. If you add that kind of travel to the cost of these teams you are looking at $6-7,000 a year to play 10 year old lacrosse. How about one trip to Hershey?
Everyone is missing the point. Travel lacrosse is about a different kind of experience. It's about building friendships, networking and player enjoyment. If you don't have that experience then go to a team that does. My son player for igloo and it's the best experience he has ever had.
Plenty of clubs offer travel tournaments to MA, NJ, MD, CT, and PA.. and the ability to build friendships..but you don't need to spend nearly as much money as with Igloo.

Igloo 2022 has a great team. The Outlaws played them in the championship game in Princeton at the Fall Brawl. Although Igloo beat us, the parents and boys at no time were unsportsman like. Regardless of some of the negative comments on this feed, they are an excellent team and play fair. It was a good experience. Can't say the same for some of the other teams. Beasts for parents and arrogance breeds their tents.

32 played up. when trip was planned a 2023 divisions was anticipated. as manhasset parent i have a lot of respect for this igloo team--not only for their lacrosse ability but the way they conducted themselves the entire weekend. they deserve a lot of credit on how they handled the game with 32.
