In the action on Sunday, November 21st, West Islip crushed Manhasset in the preseason tournament. West Islip versus Shoreham-Wading River provided the best competition on the day. Farmingdale did not have their full team (following the Freeport football game?) and were soundly beated by Smithtown East. According to BOTC Industries sources, approximately fifty Division One NCAA programs were represented at these High School scrimmage matches.
For those interested, the full roster of teams playing in the Shoreham-Wading River preseason tournament included the following :

West Islip, NY (#1 in the Nation)
Ward Melville, NY
Garden City, NY (#18 in the Nation)
Yorktown, NY
Shoreham-Wading River, NY
Manhasset, NY (#2 in the Nation)
Syosset, NY
Massapequa, NY
Huntington, NY
Farmindale, NY
Smithtown West, NY
Rocky Point, NY
Smithtown East, NY
Long Beach, NY
Darien, CT (#11 in the Nation)
Bayshore, NY
Half Hollow Hills West, NY
Northport, NY
Salesianum, Delaware
Mt. Sinai, NY
Garden City's non league schedule is taking shape and it is really impressive.

March 22nd at Syosset
March 26th vs. Smithtown West
April 2nd vs. Ward Melville
April 7th vs. San Ramon Valley (CA)
April 16th vs. Duxbury (Harvard)
Manhasset's schedule now lists them traveling to Maryland to play Severna Park and Annapolis in late April.
Section VIII allows a maximum of fifteen regular season games; Section XI allows for sixteen games.

Last year in C, Manhasset played six non-league games - South Side, Northport, Garden City, Chaminade, Darien and John Jay. They had nine League games in C for a total of fifteen.

Last year in B, Garden City played six non-league games - Manhasset, Syosset, Smithtown West, St Paul's, Yorktown and New Canaan. They had nine league games in B including none that were crossovers to B-2.

Calhoun, MacArthur and Long Beach all moved to A for 2011 and Malverne, Manhasset and Wheatley moved to B so there are the same number of teams in B that there were last year. Last year with 24 teams, all B teams had only five non-league dates.

So far in 2011 the non-league games scheduled for Manhasset and Garden City are:

Garden City - Syosset, Smithtown West, San Ramon Valley CA and Ward Melville.

Manhasset - Severna Park MD, Annapolis MD, Darien CT and likely CSH for sure. Woodstick might end up being a crossover B league game or the 5th NL date.

Class C has three fewer teams than last year so CSH should be looking for at least three more dates. Manhasset would certainly be one. Last year the Seahawks played two Florida teams, South Side, Hicksville, Syosset and Huntington as their six non-league games.
Some player highlights form Suffolk County ... The Gamblin family has moved into the Sachem North school district [which will really harm Hicksville in their battle with Farmingdale] and turns Sachem North into a Suffolk title contender.

Over in Sayville, their goalie (Fleming) is reported as a sure thing for D1 action even as a junior right now.

West Islip has lost their big guns and might not be at the same level as last year's team. Northport's middle school and JV group are the up and comers over the next several years - seem strong than West Islip's crew.
Looks like the usual preseason/non-league match between Hicksville and CSH has been cancelled. Perhaps Hicksville has just gotten tired of the early season surprise from Class B? CSH figures to have a strong group of seniors and juniors (and some underclassmen) this year.
Over in Suffolk, did Bayport/Bluepoint get moved to Class B? Seems like they have. A good match up to watch for early in the season in Class B is Sayville and Bayport. Bayport returns alot from there Suffolk finals appearance last year, but lost a very good goalie. The key to this game will be if Bayport's offense can score past Fleming in net and if Sayville can get some offense going without Mellynchuck.

Everyone here in WI would like to thank all this poster who gave such a beautiful eulogy for our team. I'm sure that Craig and Hoppey are on the phone right now discussing how to disband their programs in the face of a Juggernaut like SN. GO LIONS!
Don't be too sure who is dodging who.

Perhaps CSH decided to avoid a meaningless and very physical game early in the season. The school is small, has only a few great athletes, and has a coach who pulls starters in football games very early to avoid injury. Hicksville plays a hard hitting football style game and some of the CSH kids got nicked up in their last game, which was more than chippy. Cold Spring plays a finesse game and does not like the contact.

Sounds a little like Talent Vs. Toughness. Just my two cents but talent will win nine out of ten times!
Farmingdale schedule released - both Holy Trinity and Wantagh are on the play list! Foothill-Santa Anna California then Shoreham-Wading River under the lights here.

Back to the sump in Port, the Pequa at Field of Dreams. Dalers are are home vs. Hicksville - good thing, its rare walking out of that Walker Park - a happy daler fan.

Dalers should cruise - but I wish all well.
Patric Berkery, M, Garden City (NY) has verbally committed to Penn and their admissions process, continuing the GC to UPenn pipeline. Standing out 5'11 and 180 pounds, Berkery has been one of the keys to the Trojans' potent offense since freshman year, picking up several offensive MVP honors in the playoffs this past season. He attended Blue Chip as a rising sophomore and junior and plays club with For the Love of the Game. Berkery also considered Duke, Princeton, Harvard and Penn State.
Bayport figures to be strong - team made it to the county final game and gave glenn a good game when most other teams lose the majority of their roster. bayport returns 9 out of 10 starters. rocky point east hampton hauppauge glenn and esm all had senior heavy rosters. keep talking on these forums..you will feel dumb come spring

actually 8. lost offensive minded middie and goalie. might miss some of the middies goals but the big loss is the goalie.
we will see if their defensive unit can protect the incoming goalie better than they protected the departed one.

How about a 2 day deal with Manhasset, Garden City and 2 of the above teams? No need to crown a champion, but each team gets 2 quality non-conference games. People would travel to watch those games. And half the crowd in the stands would be D1 coaches.

Great crowds for sure - but college recruiting over the last few years has led college coaches towards watching JV games with earlier signings! The varsity kids are all committed!
My guess is that Huntington (They are legit and will be next yr as well) would beat Garden City if they get through Suffolk B. Too many fall in love with names at Garden City.

There is the usual assumption that they will win states, go undefeated and possibly be #1 in the country. I will be surprised if they accomplish any of those. There are some other tremendous teams out there, but for some reason when GC gets some studs on the team they are hyped more than anyone else.
Anybody know why Hills East and West aren't playing each other this year? Usually they have the Ray Enners Day game and hand out a trophy.

This is now a scrimmage according to section 11's web site.
GC is a close second to St. A's (who I'm very high on) in my opinion - some people don't think the Trojans are strong enough to be ranked in the top 3 nationally. I would put them #2. Don't want to spoil our preseason rankings though...

1. Garden City
2. St. Anthony's
3. Chaminade
4. Manhasset
5. West Islip
Early predictions - Class A: Sachem North over Farmingdale (I may be drinking the Sachem North kool aid but I do think Gamblin is that good), Class B: Garden City over SWR, Class C: CSH over Bayport

GC has to be the preseason favorite. They have one of best defenses in the league. The three starters are all going D1 (Fischer and Jahelka - Harvard) and Burnside (Penn State) are they are very deep at midfield.
Although the defense receives most of the accolades, the offense is also first rate. Dwyer (Harvard recruit) will run the offense from X and will have an abundance of talented players to feed including Gordon (Hopkins); Coleman (Penn); Berkery (Penn recruit), Savage, Kennedy and McDonnell. Should be a great year for the Trojans.

A- Smithtown West over Farmingdale- this was definitely the hardest class to predict. I think with Hicksville losing Gamblin, Farmingdale has to be the favorite out of Nassau, but I would not be surprised by any of four teams (West Islip, Ward Melville, Sachem North, Smithtown West) winning Suffolk. I think SW's firepower on offense wins out in the end. If they absolutely need a goal, they just have so many options. I say they top SN in a high-scoring Suffolk final along the lines of 15-14.

B- Garden City over Shoreham-Wading River- Garden City-Manhasset will be a fantastic Nassau final which I think will be close and low-scoring due to both teams' fantastic defenses. Somewhere in the 6-5 or 7-6 neighborhood. SWR has good young players on both sides of the ball (Rotanz, Mahoney) but they're no match for a much deeper GC squad in the LI championship.

C- Cold Spring Harbor over Glenn- CSH might face a stiff test from Friends Academy, but I think they're too deep for the Quakers in the end. Ditto for the LI championship against Glenn. Tommy Forsberg would have to have a Connor English-esque performance for them to pull off the upset.
Section 11 schedules have been updated. There is now a Tournament on April 2 at Northport High School. Looks like ESM vs Whitman , then East Islip vs Mahopohac??, then Rocky Point vs Shoreham. Anyone know what this is?

It's the Acompora tournament. A different format this year - four regulation games played back to back at Veterans Park off Bellerose Avenue in East Northport (same place the Empire top 50 game was). Matches include Northport-Corning and EI-Mahopac.

No doubt to me that Teresky, Zakow, and Finn are the second best attack unit in Suffolk. All scored 30 goals last season and all are D1 talents. Teresky has D1 offers but has yet to commit, Zakow is a junior who is likely to receive a lot of attention this summer, and Finn is a D1 caliber player but I'm not sure where he will end up. Who would you have ahead of Sachem North on defense? Smithtown West would be my other option (it's certainly not Whitman or EI). Harris (SB), Raum (Adelphi) and possibly Tyler Andreassi (soph) should be a solid group.

Garden City does have a very good team and sometimes can play great. However, they are the most hyped team I ever have seen in my life. Most of the players are hyped and people are wondering if Newsday has some sort of connection to this team. Some kids are very good players but read too many paper clippings and think the papers are going to play the game. If they focus they are a tough team to beat. For the record they have one of the most dirtiest defense-men I ever had the pleasure to watch play. Take this to the bank.

West Islip's midfield is too high and their defense is ranked low (if you mean team defense and not individual players).

Individually there's Pelegrino ... then everyone else. The two starters for West Islip - Carrick and Byrnes - are very good. The midfield has to build something around Sagl the other seniors need to step up.
I also still have WM ahead of Sachem North and Smithtown West until I see some results in the early scrimmages.

I liked Sachem North as a sleeper team before last season, so I will not be surprised if they do turn out to dominate this year, but I need to see something first.

Does everybody miss that Sachem North has 9 D1 players on the team this year. At the top 50 game, Andreassi was lighting it up for Suffolk.

Can anybody tell me who is a better attackman on Long Island then Andreassi? The core of players around Mike should put SN over the hump.

Andreassi is a great player, but there are plenty of great players on Long Island. Is he the best attackman in Section XI or Class A? Great hardnosed player, but perhaps not the best. What about Pannell?

Sachem North will go undefeated with big wins over West Islip, Smithtown West, Ward Melville, and Farmingdale for the Long Island Championship. They have one of the best offenses in the entire country this year, a solid defense, and a good coach. Sachem North will also win the State Championship.

Comsewogue will also go undefeated and revenge a bad loss to Garden City in overtime last year after leading by 2 with 2 minutes to play. Many weapons on offense, solid/deep defense and goalie(s), and the best coach on LI. Comsewogue will also win the State Championship.

Being that most teams graduated their pivotal players from last year I'm curious which young blood will surprise a few people. If anyone can break this down into positions it would be greatly appreciated. Ideas?
Does anyone have any thoughts on how the California and Colorado teams will handle playing on the Island this Spring? Varsity boys teams from Garden City, Long Beach, Farmingdale, Wantagh, Holy Trinity and Southside all have games with teams from these western states this year. Opinions?

Based on what information has been sent to BOTC Industries, Cherry Creek (Colorado) will be competitive with both South Side and Wantagh. San Ramon will be hard pressed to stay with Garden City as will Foothill against Farmingdale.

I'm very curious to see how Cherry Creek holds up; those are two quality programs they're playing.

We are getting more out of region competition which is a great thing to see. Interesting that we see more of this happening in lacrosse and yet other sports cannot seem to make it happen. Perhaps this is just because Long Island really is the center for the LAX universe.
Did you see the Empire Games? Keenan and Pannell????

Yesterday was a really good "Snow Melt Day"! Let's hope we get some more in the next two weeks and get the boys on the fields before the end of their senior year!

From the Empire Games Summer Web Site :

Due to New York State's fiscal crisis, the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, along with other state agencies, has instituted a number of operational reductions. The changes are outlined below:

Knox Farms State Park in East Aurora, New York will be closed.

The Empire State Game programs have been discontinued.

For information about the Winter Games in Lake Placid conducted by the Lake Placid CVB and local municipalities please visit www.empirestatewintergames.com.

Please check the website again for links to prior year Games' results.

I'm a long time Sachem Alum, but wanted to chime in about the talk with them this year. First off, I do (in my biased opinion) think they are the real deal. I wouldn't be so quick to give reason for their possible success to just the "transfer" players. They have a very deep, athletic team with a lot of talented players to being with.

With the exception of perhaps Gamblin, I would argue most of the new guys aren't going to be game changers but rather round out the edges and provide depth.

This is a team that before the "new" guys had 3 empire players along with several younger guys playing in the LI showcase games. We'll see when the games and scrimmages begin where the new players fit in, but I really think you would be underestimating the home grown talent on that team if everyone assumes all of them will step right in and play and "bring" a championship to Sachem.

The season hasn't started yet and Sachem has work to do before they win anything. Remember they lost to Smithtown West twice, Smithtown East, Connecquot, Ward Melville (blown out) and lost to an average Floyd team. Single goals against East Islip and Patchogue-Medford ... and do not forget about West Islip in the whole discussion.
SW cannot be a surprise to anyone - they were supposed to "surprise" everyone in each of the last two seasons. Perhaps this is their year, if they can keep the #1 ranked Sachem North team at bay?
Suffolk will have at least two in the top ten (nationally) by the end of the year, given the non-leagee games. We'll see what happens.
Farmingdale has many of last year's team returning and they have close to 10 D1 committed players so they should be able to dominate there conference this year.

The biggest question mark will be in goal. Farmingdale's junior goalie has already committed to Ohio State but he has never started a varsity game and was on the JV team last year. Nobody knows yet if the senior who was the backup last year or the Junior will start.

Baldwin always plays Farmingdale tough and I don't expect that to change this year. The Baldwin coach is a Farmingdale alum and gets up for this match up every year.
Question for everyone: Who are the guys in the Suffolk County league should the country keep an eye on? As for goalies:
Oliveri (Connetquot)
Cordts (Northport)
Turri (West Islip)
Flood (Bay Shore)

Both Suffolk and Nassau County along with the MIAA league from Maryland are recognized nationally as being the best. Enjoy it while it lasts because with the growth of the game and youth/little leagues popping up all over the country the days of dominance will eventually come to an end.

I'm sorry but this post is just not true. The traditional hotbeds will always be hotbeds. You don't see great football players coming from LI, and football is popular all over. On LI, lacrosse is more important. It will never be that way in most of the rest of the country.
BOTC Industries has seen a report stating the following : "I was told by a Varsity Coach from Half Hollow Hills (not the lax coach) that the HHH AD told all coaches not to schedule any games with Catholic High Schools as he did not want to spotlight the schools to their student athletes." There is apparently backlash that the public schools do not wish to put St. Anthony's and others on stage.

The expection appears to be the ongoing Manhasset vs. Chaminade (boys only) rivalry.

Is there a list of schools in Section XI that have established this unofficial policy?

No one is going to outright admit to this policy. The problem is that the Section XI folks think it's more important for the top Class A and Class B programs to demolish lower ranked opponents during scrimmages and preseason rather than scheduling top schools outside the division. The lone exception seems to be West Islip which goes outside of its comfort zone to really be seen on a national level.

It will be interesting to see St. Anthony's scrimmage Garden City and play Darien (Connecticut) while Chaminade plays Manhassett and West Islip. Wish that there was more public vs. private school overlap matches like these.

I have heard this said in our Nassau County school district - avoid losing players to the sports-only Catholic League schools and in particular, St. Anthony's. While our AD would not admit it verbally, there was definitely a nod of the head that came with the answer. Seems like there is a Nassau County mini-blackballing involved here when it comes to real games.

These 2011 tryouts were held in February at Hofstra University and Yale University for the Eastern Regional team - either many players were unaware of these events or these were just too many sports conflicts for players to attend.

Chaminade has no problem playing the public schools on Long Island - although from a competitive perspective Chaminade does not beat the publics on a consistent basis. It stinks that St. Anthony's needs to play "all those bad teams" in the Catholic league. This is one of the downsides for the players who go the private school route in this case. While I respect that you have that right, don't ever think any Public School owes you the right to play any Private school. Truth be told, you are not relevant to the public schools whose goal it is to win a state championship.
Farmingdale and Chaminade scrimmage this coming Wednesday and the Dalers scrimmange Manhasset next Saturday. The season is finally here. Let's hope the rain holds off.

I hope that with the creation of this site, this will go a long way of getting information out there to all the lacrosse players. If i have one major complaint about our lacrosse community its that too many times these types of events are not known to a lot of the players who would go and try out
Over the 2 days I would say over 300 boys tried out. Players were selected based on performance, not name recognition.

BOTC is working hard to bring the very latest news and information covering teams, products, services, showcases, tryouts, tournaments, and college recruitment to our Long Island and Northeastern Lacrosse communities. We look forward to your continued support.
First scrimmage event of the season yesterday - was at the field for a three quarter scimmage between St. Anthony's and Garden City. Score was 2-2 to the half and 4-2 St. Anthony's at the end of the scrimmage. Play was even between the two teams but certainly a cut below where they will be in about four week's time. Heard that Chaminade did outscore Farmingdale yesterday afternoon from a friend at Chaminade, but do not have any details.

Results from some Suffolk opening day scrimmages : Smithtown West over Hauppauge, Bay Shore over Middle Country, West Islip over Syosset (handily), Comsewogue over Floyd (handily), Huntington over Pat-Med (handily)
Scrimmages from Saturday (Just Starting Lineups)
West Islip over St. Anthony's, 4-1
Huntington over Massapequa, 6-4
Massapequa over West Islip, 4-2
Huntington over HHHE, 4-1

Basically, all the matches were get-in-playing-shape events with the exception of the Huntington/Massapequa game. Both teams seemed to have a little "edge" to them with some very hard hits that were picked up by everyone watching. Almost seemed like the players were after starting spots and respect for later in the season.
Two league games kicked off on Saturday to start the season.

Floral Park 10, New Hyde Park 7: Casey Giarrantiana scored four goals.

Friends Academy 12, Bayport-Blue Point 9: Harry Dellafera and Will Sands each had four goals.
Scores from Monday, March 21st

West Hempstead defeats Hempstead, 9-3
Cold Spring Harbor defeats South Side, 10-6
Latest scores from March 22nd

West Islip over Huntington, 9-3 (Scrimmage)
Ward Melville over Shoreham Wading River, 9-6
Sayville defeats Wantagh, 9-8 (Non-League)
Middle Country defeats Rocky Point, 10-7
Garden City soundly over Syosset, 8-1 (7-0 late)
Holy Trinity over Farmingdale, 10-9

Phone call received from a parent telling me that Ward Melville looked strong in their match. Another call saying Sayville was solid against the Wantagh team. Not a good non-league loss for Farmingdale.

Additional scores as follows:

Valley Stream 8:1 Lawrence
Port Washington 12:7 Locust Valley
Long Beach 17:5 Division
Seaford 13:9 Calhoun
Carey 10:4 East Meadow
Hicksville 13:7 Kellenberg
Lindenhurst 11:7 Pat-Med
Oceanside 14:8 Lynbrook
Belmore 8:7 Mineola

Good win for Hicksville after losing some key players to Sachem North. Most impressive results have to be Garden City's win and Holy Trinity over Farmingale.
Comsewogue beat Sachem North in a "scrimmage" 11-5 yesterday, certainly a shocking result - North played with their recent player additions. Defensively Sachem was a little ragged although the quarterly goalie switches could explain everything - no rhythm, just practice which is the right approach for a scrimmage.

Comsewogue was better in the faceoffs throughout the game; their zone defense seemed to pick up the individual Sachem North attackmen fairly easily - including transfer Gamblin which was a surprise, but surely just early season struggles. Let's see what happens two months from now.

As a sideline observer today, accolades to Lomangino - some nice keeping throughout the game - strong Hicksville defense against a limited "individualized" attack from the CSH midfielders.

Cold Spring Harbor had issues with basic fundamentals - particularly catching and ground balls - seemed to be a problem all game. Things were not helpe with the unsportsmanlike penalty to the CSH coach. Setting your team up, struggling offensively, to play two men down in the first game of the season shows that the program needs to take a deep breath in week one.

Hicksville looks solid; CSH was hopefully just having early season jitters.

I hear there are a crop of young 2013 and 2014 RI players in the lower divisions? Can that be true? RI?

Wantagh defeated Farmingdale by an 11-9 margin after Farmingdale was down 6-1 in the first half. While the Warriors keeper played an exceptional game, the fact is that this is the second straight game where the Dalers were not ready at the opening whistle. This is a coaching problem where the three all-county attackmen need to come out more ready to apply pressure for the full match.

Is Sachem North the team that recuits and has "transfers"?

Yes, several key new players came into the district this year - whether recruited, transferred, or otherwise is your choice.

The more concerning aspect is that the Sachem School District has now established a Board of Education level policy dealing with Non-Resident Tuition Rates. This entire discussion opens a new element in the public versus private education debate.

Approval for Establishment of Non-Resident Tuition Rate
RECOMMENDED ACTION: “that, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools, the Board of Education approves the tuition rate for the child of a nonresident to attend the Sachem School District. The formula to calculate the tuition rate for a regular education pupil is determined by the New York State Department of Education. The estimated tuition rate for a student, full day K–6, for the 2009-10 school year is $4,972.00. The estimated tuition rate for a student, grade 7-12, for the 2009-10 school year is $8,056.00. The actual 2009-10 and 2010-11 school year tuition rates have not yet been calculated. Therefore, it is recommended, if in the event a child of a non-resident is approved to attend full day K-6 in the Sachem School District, the tuition charged will be $4,972.00 and for a student to attend grade 7-12 in the Sachem School District, the tuition charged will be $8,056.00 and shall be modified upon receipt of the 2010-11 tuition rates.”

Wantagh defeats Cherry Creek, Colorado, 9-7, down 3-2 at Half
Interesting, I was curious to see if the other states are catching up to NY (LI) in lacrosse so I did some research on Cherry Creek.

Cherry Creek HS has a student population of over 3,500 compared to 1,100 for Wantagh. So cleary their division would be different.

Also, found out that Cherry Creek was 2010 Colorado state Champs so I guess NY (LI) still may have an edge.

Seems like the have a pretty good program for Colorado:

"Besides 11 State Championships, 23 All-Americas, and many All-State awards, the Cherry Creek program has
had several Doc Stabler award winners (top Scholar-Lacrosse Player in Colorado), and has sent a steady
stream of players to top Division I, II, III, and Club programs across the country."

Cherry Creek came east to showcase against teams from the region and potentially tour some east coast colleges. Effectively, this successful varsity scholastic program feels that this particular group is special and wants to afford the team members the chance to play some east coast (hotbed) teams and tour selected campuses.

The Ward Melville defense was up to the task all game. Garden City's attack was getting hit hard and from the sidelines, it did not look like they were comfortable against the Ward Melville defenders. Garden City came out after halftime and looked unprepared for the restart. Seemed that the team lost their composure with several flags and short handed situations. For an early season matchup, this one was very intense on the field.

"Truth be told", out of town recuits will do that for you.
Chaminade 10 - St. Anthony's 5

Score midway through the second quarter was 4-2 in favor of St Anthony's. Chaminade then scored eight unanswered goals until letting up a goal in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter. The last couple of seasons, Chaminade has won the opening match-up only to lose later in the playoffs. Let's see what happens this year.

Both teams will be better for playing this great match against each other rather than playing a ten-goal win game against some other conference teams. It seems as if there have been more blowout varsity matches than in years past.

Well done by St. Paul's traveling from MIAA to compete against some of Long Island's best varsity squads. Spoke with some folks from MIAA who made the trip down for the game with their boys - excellent match, close competition.

The game of the week to watch this week will come on Tuesday as West Islip faces off against Sachem North and their high powered Gamblin-led offensive formation. This will be a preview of a potential late season playoff matchup in Suffolk County's Section XI tournament.

Class B, never leave out SWR always a factor...

Two major match-ups on Tuesday - not only SN/WI, but also Ward Meville with Smithtown West. Some previews on these two big time games to be held tomorrow in Suffolk's top flight.

Ward Melville at Smithtown West - Could Ward Melville be on the edge of a county, Long Island and state run? National polls have them getting the respect they deserve, but Smithtown West has been an Achilles heal for them over the past few years. Expect that this will come down to a two goal affair at very most.

Sachem North at West Islip - Since they last played, the balance of power has shifted with the Sachem North imports leading the way. North will open the offensive flood gates here, the score be damned. Gamblin alone will account for six goals and the rest of the offense will be good for another dozen. West Islip will not generate offense as the transition game will be stifled by North in the middle. This will not be as close as many have predicted - final score, 18-7.

Sachem North will be a force, today's game reminded us of the West Islip loss last season, weather was not a factor in the game but dark skies seemed to make the ball harder to see throughout the game. Good win by West Islip shows that they are still a top dog this season.

WI 12 SN 9, Looks like the free ride out-of-town recruits are going to need to pay some tuition. I hear Syracuse is graduating some talented players, maybe Sachem North can find a basement apartment for a few 5th year seniors.

Our reports to BOTC are that the game will pick up at the point of suspension starting at 4:30pm today.
Was at game entire time, weather and visibility of the ball was not an issue at all. Sachem's top middies couldn't handle West Islip, also goalies played a huge role in this game. WI goalie was outstanding and Sachem starting goalie had an off day. He was replaced in second half. Second goalie played better but bottom line here was that Sachem was no match at all for WI defense. Will see what happens in the playoffs, should be a great re-match.

MSG Varsity Live Match : West Islip 8, Chaminade 7

West Islip was leading 8-5 with a minute remaining before a pair of Chaminade goals with thirty seconds and ten seconds remaining tightened the final score line to 8-7.

The match was 2-2 at halftime with both teams showing a balanced attack. Throughout the second half, the Lions seemed to have all of their shots catching the cage while the Chaminade attack only seemed to find the seams late in the fourth.

On the television coverage, nice mentions for several of the players and their respective colleges starting next season.

This was a shocking loss for the Dalers and the game probably was not as close as this score - the keepers kept the score down for both sides although the Dalers keeper made three key saves during the match. Tempers were flaring towards the end; the Dalers will likely have to use this game as a major wake-up call heading to the playoffs. Suddenly, this non-league match starts you questions if the Dalers can handle Pequa at the end of this upcoming week.
You would think that the Nassau Class A season has been perfectly set for the Dalers yet they simply cannot get on track with all parts of the offense and defense in the same game. Friday against Massapequa will tell a great deal - including whether the Dalers will even make the county finals.

Garden City gave Manhasset all they could handle throughout the game. Manhasset had way too many balls on the ground in the offensive zone thanks to Garden City's slashing defense. Manhasset's passing attack seemed slow and later in the game (fourth), it seemed that individual efforts inside were the only attack formations from Manhasset. Look, 45 straight wins is no small feat, just that Garden City seemed to expose the offense with some strong defense.

In Saturday night action, be sure to watch for the results of the Chaminade vs. Manhasset match on Saturday evening. Almost everyone that BOTC Industries has heard speaking about this game has called this to be a two goal, one goal regulation, or one goal overtime affair.
Cagesage, there was a huge fight at the end of the East Islip and Connetquot game. Trash talking and bad mouthing throughout the fourth quarter that had brawl written all over the field. The refs called the game with about ten seconds left on the clock after breaking up the fights. Very disappointing end to what was for three quarters a solid game.

Exactly how many overtime wins has West Islip managed to escape? This feels like the third one where they could have been bumped off. Just goes to show that failure and destiny are divided by no more than the width of the pipe.

Cannot wait to hear about the details of this incredible (obviously defense) battle.
Key play in the game took place with about four minutes remaining and the score tied at 2-2. Chaminade was a man-up and lost control almost immediately after the restart. Manhasset killed thirty seconds, drew a flag from the Flyers to kill the remaining time, and maintained control with Moroney scoring the game winner.

Can anyone explain how Suffolk's mysterious powerpoint system works, for example if Walt Whitman with 108 Powerpoints by some miracle beat West Islip with their 182 points, how many points would Whitman get and does the lost (in this case WI) get any?

Friday, May 27th Results

West Islip 6, Connetquot 2
Smithtown West 15, Ward Melville 7

Highlights
Attended the West Islip game - general feedback was that the refs were not a solid crew and did not call an even game. Received a call that suggested that Smithtown West really smothered the Ward Melville attack.
It has been seven years since there was a Suffolk County final without the Ward Melville Patriots taking the field. To be honest, Smithtown West was an offensive powerhouse in this game and completely handled any formation from the Ward Melville defensemen. Excellent job at player rotation from West kept fresh legs throughout the game, particularly in the midfield. A repeat of this game will give West Islip all they can handle after their 6-2 semifinal.

Section XI Class A (In Progress) : West Islip 11, Smithtown West 8

West Islip vs. Farmingdale for the Long Island Championship in Class A.
Section XI Class B (Halftime) : Shoreham-Wading River 6, Huntington 3

Heavy rain hit the field midway through the second quarter with both teams playing evenly during the downpour.

After opening with a 1-1 score, SWR netted three straight to take the early second quarter 4-1 advantage. The teams have been trading goals since that point into the half.
Section XI Class B (In Progress) : Shoreham-Wading River 9, Huntington 3

The Wildcats have controlled all the second half action with the Blue Devils overwhelmed. Time out taken by Huntington just to try and regroup - when they needed to score three, Huntington yielded three. Third quarter goals by Malave, Drost, and Gersbeck.
Section XI Class B (In Progress) : Shoreham-Wading River 9, Huntington 5

Huntington nets two badly needed goals after the timeout by Saputo and Plant. Roughly five minutes remaining in the third period and SWR will go to the man advantage.
Section XI Class B (In Progress) : Shoreham-Wading River 10, Huntington 6

SWR scored on the man advantage and had a following goal called off for a crease violation with four minutes remaining in the third. The teams exchanged possessions with a save or two mixed into the action but Huntington netted one with 30 seconds left on the clock to make it 10-6. End of third period.

Class B : Shoreham-Wading River vs. Garden City, 8:00pm
Class C : Section XI Winner vs. Cold Spring Harbor, 3:00pm

Please note the revised start times for all of these matches.
Section XI Class C (Halftime) : Mount Sinai 3, Bayport-Blue Point 1

Some would argue that this has been a defensive battle, but the BOTC halftime assessment is that this first half has been somewhat sloppy by both teams and the ball seems to have been on the ground an awful lot during this match. The energy of the crowd here at Stony Brook outstrips the quality of the play in the first half. Expect that both teams will get a halftime "spanking" and that the third and fourth quarters will be technically crisper.
Section XI Class C (In Progress) : Mount Sinai 3, Bayport-Blue Point 4

BBP score three straight unanswered goals by DeBlasio and White (twice) completely change the feeling here in the stadium in the third period. Mount Sinai looks stunned on the field. Would not be surprised to see a time out to try and regroup here.
Section XI Class C (In Progress) : Mount Sinai 4, Bayport-Blue Point 6

BBP ran the streak to four before an excellent Mount Sinai timeout was called to get things "righted" - and that was followed by their fourth goal. DeBlasio scored again inside the final 1:30 on a rocket to push the score to 6-4. Mount Sinai defensively has met one of their worst quarters of the season at the absolutely worst time. End of third quarter.
Section XI Class C (In Progress) : Mount Sinai 6, Bayport-Blue Point 7

Mount Sinai lay it all on the line with goals by Wolfe and Marino to level the scoring at 6-6. BBP's DeBlasio scores again to take the 7-6 advantage. Less than five minutes remain and the game has taken a very physical turn.
Section XI Class C Final : Mount Sinai 7, Bayport-Blue Point 8

The Boys Varsity Finals are completed as Bayport-Blue Point takes the Suffolk Class C Championship and will face Cold Spring Harbor on Saturday in the Long Island Championship.

Farmingdale was exceptional in winning their first Long Island Championship since 2003. As for the Lions, they have lost three games in their last 65 matches, all in overtime. Their forty game win streak was sandwiched by last year's opening season loss and this year's closing championship game match.
