A big THANK YOU from Riverhead Lacrosse to all of the teams and volunteers that helped make our first Lax for a Smile event a huge success!! Because of the generosity of the following people/programs, we were able to raise 14K on May 4 for Michael Hubbard, a 16 year old Riverhead Blue Wave who suffered a traumatic brain injury 2 years ago. So.... a HUGE thank you to: MYO, Middle Country, Rocky Point, North Fork, Mattituck Cutchogue, Bellport, Center Moriches, ESM, Longwood, W. Islip, Team Long Island and Dune Dawgs... Thanks also to the following referees who generously volunteered their time - Maureen Earle, Robert Elkins, Bill Martin, John Vail, Sabina Dorr, Chris Dorr, Mario Carerra, Emmet Carey, Tom Barry, Brian Tobin and Joe Nofi. The day was beautiful and an awesome tribute to all of the wonderful folks involved in youth lacrosse. We cannot say enough about the generosity that was shown. These programs and people are awewsome! We could not have done it without all of you. Thanks again!

It was a fantastic day and was great to see so many come out to support this young man. The small town, can do attitude was refreshing and we were most impressed with the friendly dispositions both on the fields and off.

We are hoping to hold the event again next year. We planned it all in just 5 weeks so it was a scramble, but with lots of cooperation and kindness, we got it done. The concept was that each Riverhead team would play one game, boys and girls, K-7/8 - the day concluded with our Boys Varsity Senior Day and game. We asked 200 per team and sent out a flyer. Some teams just donated if they couldn't come and some teams collected more money on the fields and donated extra. It was amazing. We booked the games first come first serve based on responses to our flyer. If we had openings some played an extra game. We had a Chinese auction, concessions, a lizards demo and a warrior rep available. We will have more time to plan for 2014 so hoping to improve and expand. The generosity and spirit of all that participated was unbelievable. Thanks again to all, Dawn Thomas - Riverhead Girls Coordinator
