It's the start of the Fall 2016/Spring 2017 season. Use this thread for your posts regarding this age group

Lets start using the MD Lax Forum like the other age groups. The other forum has too much LI bickering. We can have our own bickering south of the Mason Dixon line.

M&D Black, Heros Green and Skywalkers Blue will be playing each other alot in the fall tournaments coming up in the next month. The talent and competition will be fun to watch. I think about 2-3 more teams may be joining the party as well. Hopefully Maryland can have 6 teams that can dominate the 2021 landscape.

Who are these mystery 2-3 teams that are suddenly going to compete with M&D, Heros and Skywalkers? Where did the talent come from to put them on that level?

No one can compete with those 3, fools. They and they alone have the top 75 girls in the entire state, all headed to top D1 schools. All the other MD club teams are made up of has beens and wannabes that shouldn't even play in the same tournaments as the Holy Trinity.

TLC 2021 Red for one. They will be vastly improved and capable of playing with anyone.

Stars, Heros and Skywalkers have a play date this weekend in Virginia.

Where did these girls come from that are going to be a vast improvement? TLC has been in a steady decline the last 2 years

New coach and new players from C2 and Diamonds. I realize that C2 and Diamonds were not overly competitive, however, the players that took the draw, scored the majority of goals and the very good C2 goalie all joined TLC. I am not predicting that they will beat M&D but the games will be far more competitive. They will be able to play Skywalkers and Heros to +/- 3 goal outcomes.

Hope that's true. More competitive teams the better. Makes all the teams stronger.

Diamonds and C2 had some talented athletes last year but both teams lacked depth to compete. I agree TLC Red will be much improved with the addition of these top players. Did Heros and Skywalkers improve their talent levels? I guess we will find our this Fall.

Heros doesn't need to improve their talent level. They will dominate just as they did last season.

You sound like you are jealous! M&D '21 Black is a great TEAM (key word) and I'm pretty sure undefeated last season. Why can't you compliment their skills instead of hating with your sarcasm. I would compliment any team with great skills and team play. True team players are often hard to come by and that bench runs deep with so many talented young ladies.

Skywalkers played well today, beating both Heroes 14-9 and Stars 11-5. Both Heros and SW were without their top draw girl.

Fall ball results don't mean much. so many girls missing in most cases.

Missing from both teams? Then that's okay as a barometer.

All teams had a majority of their rosters playing and it absolutely is a barometer of the quality of these teams. All three are very solid. Skywalkers added needed depth with some quality new girls. By picking off the top couple of players from lesser clubs the A teams look much stronger. The play between top and second tier teams is widening significantly.

So from what I can gather:

1. If my daughter doesn't play for one of the 3 elite teams she is doomed to the scrap heap of lacrosse and

2. Heros, M&D, and Skywalkers will be undefeated when playing against non-elite, 2nd division teams. Hope they don't crack under the pressure.

Far from true. Good players on the less competitive teams are at an advantage to all but the best players on the most competitive teams. I would rather my daughter play the entire game and carry the load for her team, win or lose, than have her be a sub on a team and see limited playing time. In the second scenario, she will only get in front of coaches at showcase events and prospect days.

So if my daughter is a top player on a B team for M&D she will not be recruited? What if her high school is a power house for lacrosse? Doesn't the high school team draw attention as well? Thanks.

Every girl club lacrosse player in Maryland will get recruited into college if they have the desire to play at the collegiate level. There are enough teams in D1, D2, and D3 to accommodate all the girls. The difference is the money offered and the D level. We are all fortunate that we live in a state that is known for the best lacrosse players and coaches. There are colleges that will pick a player sight unseen because they are talented enough to play club in Maryland.
Find the best fit for your daughter and enjoy the ride.

Exactly. Find the best fit for your daughter. She is the one who plays, she is the one who puts the time in. It should be her decision, with guidance from you as her parent. The club she picks may be the best fit or it may be a total mistake, but it is her mistake to make. We mistakes, it's how we grow. Let it be her decision.

College coaches do not watch high school lacrosse games. They are busy with their own seasons.

Both Heros and Skywalkers had chances this weekend to stake their claim as Top Dog but failed. Either they are not as good/improved as they claimed to be or M&D is more vulnerable than last year.

When you jump out to an early 5-6 goal lead and have the defense and goalie on the ropes, you gotta finish the job Heros. Opportunities like that don't come along very often. Great game to watch.

It's OK Heros mom/dad. 2-2 for the weekend isn't so bad.

SkyWalkers did not fail this weekend. They beat M&D in the championship. 4-2

In a short game. Outcome probably would've been different in a regulation game. However, I give them their props.

I love when people use a short game as an excuse. If both teams know that they have 25 minutes to play the game and score the most points to win, the time length is irrelevant. It's not like it was a planned 50 minute game and they stopped halfway through and took the score at 25 minutes such as during a rain delay. If you are going to except all those short games as wins then you have to except the short game as a loss. Please be gracious in defeat.

Skywalkers played well today and deserved to win. No excuses. But as a concept, 25 minute championship games make little sense.

We all have a fun next few years. Parity is on the horizon as was the three older age groups my kids were in.

Can't use short game as an excuse. All clubs/teams know about the short games. It's not a surprise when they step on the field. They are either ready for it, or they aren't.

So what if they went 2-2? For one, it's fall. And just because they lost two games does not mean they are not a dominant team. I am not even a Hero's parent. That statement just pissed me off.

So you are saying that Hero's is on the same level as M&D and Skywalkers right now as Hero's dad claimed? When has Heros 2021 ever been dominant? Have they ever beaten M&D or YJ? They were beaten fairly easily by M&D and Skywalkers this weekend, even though they got up 6-0 against M&D. Not sure why you would be pissed off. But also doubt you are not a Heros parent.

Skywalkers beat Hero's and Stars at George Mason two weeks ago by 5 or 6 goals each. SW's added 7 new players and look stronger this year. They will be a tough out going forward

Sky Walkers is hitting their stride which is historically when Sky Walkers team really start to excel. The Sky Walkers girls will generally take a little time to get fully indoctrinated into the "Sky Walkers way". Look at their older teams.

You're right, their 20's have really gotten strong.

Yes. SW, Hero's, and M&D will always be great matchups and the wins/losses will go back and forth among the teams because of great competitive play. The new dads will learn this.

One loss in a 25 minute game and all of a sudden SW and Heros are at the same level as M&D? Think again.

Guarantee you that wasn't an M&D dad. But I think he may have been referring to the fact that M&D beat them in a full game Saturday as well as every other time they have played. And Heros has never really come close to beating them in a full game or shortened one.

Good for Skywalkers!!! They are a very well coached team. Plus their players really work as hard or harder than anybody. Finally, they have team chemistry that is second to none.

This is just the beginning, the future is bright for these girls.

Aren't the Hero's 2020 girls very good? I like the 2021 Hero's team quite a bit and I'm a SW parent. Henry Cha and staff do a great job. That team is always well prepared and well coached. I would rate their draw girl as one of the top three middies in the state. They also have excellent goal tending, which keeps them in every game. From their passing in transition, to their team defense, I really like watching them play. I am hopeful that their draw girl ends up at the same high school as my daughter.

Agreed. SW's is faster than M&D, especially at midfield. M&D seems bigger but SW has more team speed. The YJ are the only team with midfield speed to keep up with SW. TLC also upgraded their team speed it will be interesting to see them play.

Nope, I'm a SW parent and a self professed lacrosse geek. That Hero's team has made it to a lot of finals. I wasn't at Hagerstown this past week but saw SW play Heros and Stars two weeks ago and I thought both Heros and Stars passed better in transition. The difference was the SW speed, which I find amazing, coupled with our new goalie from Checkers.

I am going to guess that finally losing is going to be good for M&D. Going almost 2 years without losing put a lot of pressure on them and also had every other team wanting to win at all costs. They got beat Sunday because SW simply played harder than they did which I applaud them for. M&D is very well coached and obviously very talented. It should be a fun year. Unfortunate the teams aren't playing this weekend but will see each other again in 2 weeks.

What has been anyone's experience with prospect days at the different college programs? Worth attending?

Agreed. M&D is very well coached. I like their attack, (I really like watching their attack; small, fast good handles etc) defense and goalie. The question for me will be their speed at midfield.

M&D gave up 30+ goals this weekend. I'd say they have some work to do in that area. The offense is going to run into a hot goaltender at some point and can't be expected to keep carrying the load and making 10-0 runs.

There are some amazing games this weekend if you like lacrosse at CHESAPEAKE invitation only. Only top teams will be there. Should make for some great competition.

Goalie play was not up to where it was but the offense is good enough to carry.

Guess Stars is better coached, works harder and has better chemistry than Skywalkers. Future is bright for those girls.

I guess its appropriate to copy this post from the main thread. Could not agree more! After hearing about their win against M&D I thought I would check them out today. They are overrated. Obviously the chemistry comment was tongue in cheek. They looked weak today in the two games I saw. Monster and Stars both deserved to win. Skywalker's defense is very good, fast, physical. They can't clear the ball. No defined clear like M&D has. The players are randomly running around. Tough job for the goalie whose stickwork is limited. Vulnerable to turnovers. The offense is non existent beyond some very good middies freelancing. No pattern, no passing, no assists. Is there any coaching going on? I did not see an assist in two games. Not impressed with them at all. Bad day huh?

SW has 6 or 7 new players and relatively new coach who took over late last season (he knows lacrosse). They are still gelling as a team and should be much improved this summer. I like the apparent parity at this age group and believe it is beneficial for all players.

The SW coach knows lacrosse. The new players are extremely athletic but will take time to work in with the existing players. All the problems regarding clears, rides, half field sets can be resolved with coaching and time, especially when you have the athletes. I expect the big four or five clubs to remain on top and remain competitive with each other.

I don't have a daughter in the 2021 division or on SKW, but watched 2021 play Monster last Sunday. They looked good with 6 or 7 new players, which means they will look even better by spring. McLaughlin knows what he is doing with that club.

Sounds a little fishy...Don't have a daughter that age nor on SW, but you just watch enough 2021 SW games to know they have 6 new girls that have improved the team? When I watch them play I see 3 or 4 girls frantically running the ball down the field with no transition game. Diving and drawing 8 meters I guess could be considered good coaching.

The Hero's goalie always gives M&D problem. But they never keep her in the hole game. The two goalies from these team M&D and Hero's have the best two goalies in the age group. It's all way fun to watch them play each other.

This isn't rec lacrosse every one doesn't get equal playing time. That's the problems these day's parents think just because their child made a team and they paid the dues that it guarantee playing time. Club sport in general there is no guarantee. Best players should be in the game. Don't know the situation with the these team but I have two boy that play and I have seen angry parents because their child doesn't play that much.

Well, as you are probably saying - "there are plenty of other clubs out there". And chances are that is what they will do. But, then, if you say - "fine - there are plenty of goalies out there." And that's where your selfishness and short-sightedness will get the better of you. Bro, lacrosse is a very small community - word will get out very quickly about the treatment of the "backup goalie" on said team and the 'dbag goalie dad'. And then you will have to settle for desperate 3rd tier talent. And you say "so what, they are the backup". Then, what happens if God forbid your auspicious 'golden cow' of a starting goalie should get injured? Who do you turn to? Or worse case scenario - nobody wants to pay that money and do that travelling to sit around and watch their daughter work on her tan on the sidelines. For field players - playing time balance can be finagled with and not be so obvious. We all know goalie parents are a little on the excessive side - its very obvious to them when the rotation is only a bit uneven.

Actually most clubs try to give equal playing time. That's why most clubs try to carry under 20 girls so they can get everyone playing time, including goalies if they carry 2.

No, I was not referring to anyone in particular. And I've heard of the situation at M&D - that was not as I had referred to. I was mostly replying to the goalie dad who always seems to post complaints about why his "golden child" is not playing goal all the time when apparently it's the "other" goalie losing games for them. I guess, it's more of a generalized response. I wonder what's going to happen when that particular goalie dad gets to high school and it's not his prodigy that is the starter. Bad juju?

The goalie after year 1 was let go because of her crazy parents. Had nothing to do with the player. She has been on at least 5 club teams for the same reason. It's really a shame.

Some coaches just seem to have bad luck with goalies. It's really a shame.

Well, I sure would not want to limit my 8th grader's educational opportunities (or 11th grader) to attendance at a large public university. But, to each their own. Congratulations.

First of all, let's not forget that any opportunity to pursue higher education is just that, an opportunity. That's why it's called higher education because it's beyond the basics that are offered to everyone. As for me, I would hope that none of my own kids ever lose sight of the fact that their college choice has to be one that is a financially sound decision. The earliest recruits tend to get scholarship offers and that equates to sound financial decision making as far as many are concerned. And as for limiting a child, I certainly would not want to limit mine to a small, liberal arts college from which they will graduate with a mountain of debt to pay back over half of their adult life. And as for a large, public university like Maryland, the possibilities are pretty much endless as for a field of study. It's the best bargain going if you live in the state of Maryland and are fortunate enough to be offered a scholarship and an opportunity to attend. And, by the way, their lacrosse teams tend to consistently rank in the top five in the country. SOLD!

No one si denying that its a great oppurtunity to go to UM, UNC or any of the other big D1 schools. But how is a person who has not completed the 8th grade know that UM is the right COLLEGE. By moving the recruiting back to the junior year it gives kids more of
an oppurtunity to figure out if they want a big college or small college experience

What amazes me is how little most parents know about what constitutes a quality educational experience, what the true cost of attending a particular college is, and how high they place lacrosse on the list of things that are important in life. It would be great to all get together in about 15 years and see how things turned out.

Every opportunity in life amounts to what you make of it. There are kids who graduate with honors from every school in the country and there are kids who we all are left scratching our heads about how they got their hands on a diploma. I attended a small, expensive, liberal arts school and don't feel that I got any better of an education than any of my other adult friends who attended large, public universities. We are all just as capable as the next at tackling life. And as for things that are important in life....grit, endurance, knowing how to go toe to toe against competition, and how to be a valuable member of a team are all things that are extremely attractive to employers. They also happen to be things that most college athletes graduate with even if they aren't magna [lacrosse] laude graduates.

That's so ignorant. Attending a small liberal arts school with incredible teachers like a Williams or Harvard or duke is an outstanding experience vs a middle road university like Maryland. Lacrosse ends education is for life. Going to graduate school or medical school should be supported. Maybe if lacrosse wasn't your life then you could pay for her college and debt wouldn't be an issue. How sad.

Instead you're on here disparaging kids, colleges and life choices. The fact that you are on a board dedicated to lacrosse crazies tells me that if Maryland offered your daughter, all this elitist college stuff would be out the window in a heartbeat in favor of a Maryland bumper sticker and a social media announcement.

I say congratulations to these kids receiving the verbals so early that all the kids on these teams are working toward. Maryland is an impressive school with a far greater breadth of majors and courses of study than most schools. It may not be for the elitist posters on this forum, but don't be fooled into thinking that you can't receive a great education in College Park.

5 Left the 2022 Green team last year. 1 left Within the last month. 6 Total. Went to Skywalkers, M&D and Checkhers.

With all the speculation that the current recruiting rules will change 8/1, is it worth it to drop $500-600 per camp this summer on our 2021s if nothing can happen for 2 years? Seems like it could be a waste of money. Any thoughts from the Peanut Gallery?

After reading the article about this in my US Lacrosse magazine that came in the mail yesterday, I was thinking the same thing. This could result in a major dent in the $$$$ college coaches make on camps.

Get your facts straight. Only one player was asked to leave, and that family left mid summer season. Another player also left mid summer season. Three players attended tryouts, made the team, and chose to play elsewhere. And the last player left after this past fall season. These are the facts.

The unfortunate thing to see is the girls develop the me-first attitude as they approach the recruiting age. It becomes very cut throat as they feel they are competing with the rest of their teammates for coveted college slots. Almost every parent I know with older daughters say it's hard to watch. You'll probably see a lot less ball movement and much more "going to goal come [lacrosse] or high water" play this summer and fall.

So 4 left and 2 were asked to leave. I am sure the reason the 4 left was due to lack of playing time, parents always thinking their kid is better than they really are. With so many options available in the MD area, there is a club for everyone. This is no news.

with the exception of probably M&D, my guess is that you'll see a fair amount of movement from clubs as girls fight for playing time and ball touches. It's about to get interesting.

movement between teams happens all the time. you have to take care of your child and family first. the clubs will not do it for you. it will settle down after the tryouts this summer and teams are solidified for the high school run.

The 4 did not leave because of playing time. They all played a lot. There were other reasons for the move and all 6 did what was right for them. There are no hard feelings

It's been pretty quite here, even after the 1st week of games no chatter...hmmm, maybe everybody's time has been taken up by countless college coaches recruiting their daughter?

Well considering all but one game got canceled, what are you expecting to hear? Stars must be the best team and MD United the worst?

MD United will be lucky to win 1-2 games. Not an "A" level team like they used to be.

Lacrosse Recruiting Blitz: Took my daughter to it last year. Very heavily attended by coaches and Yellowjackets. Was it worth it, yes if you have the time and money. Good for you to benchmark your daughter against very good players. If the new rule gets approved 4/1 I would be all over it if my daughter was a 2021. If you are short on time commitments or money is tight, you can pick certain college prospect days that you want your daughter to see and be seen. I think that is better money spent.

There was some really bad lacrosse being played this weekend. Hope it was just early season struggles or there are going to be a lot of ugly scores this season.

ILD, no team can live up to the lofty standards your daughter and her teammates have established. Our girls are doomed to careers off the field and will be forced to buy expensive tickets to watch your daughter and her friends play in stadiums full of crossed women's lacrosse fans.

Please enlighten me on the benefits of shelling out $2k per year for your daughter to play lacrosse when she can't catch and throw in 8th grade. When club lacrosse started it was not meant to be all-inclusive. But that is the society we live in today. Has to be a place for everyone and the one's that benefit are the club owners. If they can convince 25 parents that paying $2k per year to play on a "B" level club team is good for their family, then who is the dolt? Rec/Town lacrosse costs $125-200 per year. The pressure is on the parents to say little Susie plays club. The girls are in 8th grade. Parents need to be realistic about their children's abilities. If it's no big deal to throw away $2k per year, then good for you. But I know many families that don't necessarily have that sitting around.

And you're a dolt if you think that there are so many spots available. Many of the schools aren't fully funded for girls lacrosse. And even if they are, many of the lesser schools only sign 4 or 5 girls every year. There are around 500 girls offered any sort of scholarship money every year for lacrosse. There are 100 girls playing for YJ 2020 alone. There are over 80,000 girls playing high school lacrosse now. If you think there is a spot for everyone, do the math. My point is that families are spending tens of thousands of dollars for their daughters to play club lacrosse. Money that could be saved to pay for college. The one's getting rich and laughing all the way to the bank are the club owners. By 8th grade if you are on a team that is losing 12-0 or 14-1 isn't it time to have a serious discussion about what are you trying to get from the 10-20K you are going to spend for her to play club for the next 5 years? Depending on the school you are talking about almost a full year of college.

Your thinking is flawed in so many fundamental ways. I cannot believe I even responded on a little girls lacrosse forum so I apologize for that. If I go any further on the realities of lacrosse, and education, and parenting I am going to end up sounding as smug as you are. Another weekend of nail biters. Why some of these teams think it benefits their girls to play in the A division is beyond me. MC Elite, Diamonds, CheckHers, Rebels, Renegades.....Wouldn't the girls be learning more and having more fun in the B division?

The Boys HOCO league makes much more sense. They have a few different divisions for each grade and the top division only has 8 or 9 teams in it. Every game is competitive for the most part. College coaches aren't watching these games. So what is the point in putting your team in a division where you are losing by 10-15 goals every week?

As an innocent bystander, can someone explain the hostility towards M&D 2021?

How about hostility on all fronts! It would be nice if people could give positive feedback on teams...not just negative negative negative. Most of these girls know each other even though they are on different teams. Some are even friends and enjoy playing against each other. Young women in sports should lift each other up regardless of team....that's my two cents.

No one has been on here posting about how great their daughter's team is and how much they win by. The questions were around how did the structure of youth lacrosse move to everyone paying thousands of dollars to play club lacrosse. For the most part, the girls enjoy playing against each other. But the games that end up out of hand are not fun for either side. So again, the question is why do certain clubs feel the need to play in the A division when they are setting their girls up for failure?

No one is criticizing the girls on any of these teams. They all play hard and compete. My issues are with the club directors, not the kids or the families. The culture of the sport has placed pressure on these kids and families to play club lacrosse which is unfortunate. The club directors sell a bill of goods that is not based in reality. There are so many club teams now that it's out of hand. Many clubs having 2 or 3 teams per age. How did this happen? Hopefully if the rules change in 2 weeks it will take the power away from the club directors and things can go back to being somewhat normal. The pressure on the girls that see their classmates committing to college in 8th grade is unnecessary and unhealthy for their development.

Go ahead and tell me to worry about my own kid. I am worrying about her. That's the whole point.

its just those adults who can't or didn't succeed in sports in their youth living through their kids....happens in every sport be it club soccer, club lax, AL baseball or AUU bball..ignore them and they eventually go away. The spring league in BALTIMORE used to be competitive, now they want as much $ as possible and the league is unwatchable or worthless, take your pick. It used to be called "premier" and they took that away. Way too many teams and would rather scrimmage to get better with other competitive teams. Playoffs will be the only competitive games somewhere down the road.

Unwatchable? Do you actually attend these games as a fan? I mean, are you going to multiple games each weekend?

As for "worthless," you are entitled to your opinion, but keep in mind, this is a micro-sport that is largely geographically based. This is especially true when it comes to club lacrosse. You take your competition in whatever form it comes, wherever you can get it. The fact is, the "bad" teams around here are actually good or very good teams nationally, and these teams that are not worthy from your perspective, are loaded with future college lacrosse players.

Calm down. This is just girls lacrosse. It is not important in any way, shape or form, other than fun, building team and leadership skills, maybe getting a few bucks off college, or most importantly to use as leverage to get into a college you want to go to that you might not otherwise have gotten into.

I would love to get together and compare notes with some of you clowns in 15 years and see exactly where our daughter's respective lacrosse careers got them, and didn't get them. There have only been fair questions about why are some of these teams in the A division. It does benefit teams to play against better teams if they can compete with them. While I won't use the word worthless, very little is gained by either team in a blowout. This has nothing to do with parents pushing their daughter's "lacrosse career" or their ego, ignorance or insecurity. There is a place for most of these girls to play lacrosse in college if they want to. Whether they are on an A team or B team. The egos that "infect this experience" are those of the club owners of these B level teams that charge exorbitant prices and make promises that they can't deliver on.

I'm not sure why people think having more divisions is a bad idea. The boys league has 4 divisions for 2021's. Elite, AA, A and B. The Elite is invitation only based on the prior year's performance in the league. You don't see 15-0 or worse games there. Is that really a bad idea?

This is my first post, I have been reading the forums for a couple day now and am kind of surprised. All of this takes away from the game, boys and girls there daddy or mommy on a computer talking trash about each other kids and their team. I though only New [lacrosse] parent acted like this. I'm not a person to give everyone a trophy but I'm not a person that call kids playing a sport worthless, and you may not have directly but basically some one here did. And not a big fan of M&D parents on the side line, but every team has a parent or two that go over the edge some time, I myself know I have. My daughter let me know that it's not cool when I do, mostly at bad calls by refers. This game is a small community and pretty soon your daughters or sons are not going to be known for how he/she plays but for how bad their parents actions on the side line are. Like the reputation of M&D parents, I know many of them, very nice people but over the years people aren't just taking about how good M&D is but how bad the parents are. And I use M&D as an example because they seem to be the target right now. I like when my daughter plays them, they have a team that is fun to watch. If you're up 15-5 you shouldn't be saying anything at all. It's not a everyone get a trophy thing is a respect thing for the sport and others. And respect to the team that just took the 15-5 loss and still didn’t quit. Kids see your actions and would you like your kids treating other kids like this, that's up to you guys as a parent. Very well said. And I will add, your daughters read this forum. If you think they don't, your are sorely mistaken. They talk about this forum among their friends and teammates. They wonder which post was made by their mom or dad. They wonder if they are the one being trashed and talked about. How do I know? Because my daughter told me so. She told me the conversations she and her teammates have. She told me how they pull this forum up on their phones during the school day to see what has been said about them. She told me girls Snapchat screenshots of posts to friends on other teams. She has told me how, even though names are not used, they can figure out easily which player/coach/parent is getting trashed. And the question they ask is why do moms and dads act like this. Well done parents. You have shown your maturity levels are much lower than your daughters. Even your DAUGHTER shakes her head at your behavior.

As the parent of a daughter on one of the teams that does not belong in the same division as the world champs, thank you!

When you say that when M&D is up 15-5 the parents shouldn't say anything at all, what do you mean? That we should stop clapping when someone scores? I don't know what games you are referring to, but I don't ever notice M&D parents gloating or doing anything to make the other team feel bad. Last weekend the goalie for MC Elite played unbelievably. The M&D parents were cheering for her every save she made. Do things get heated when M&D plays Skywalkers, YJ and sometimes Heros? Yes, but it's coming from the other side just as much if not more. I don't think I've ever heard an M&D parent make a comment directed toward a team that was getting beaten badly to make anyone feel bad. If that has happened, I apologize for our parents, but I've certainly never heard it. MG wouldn't allow it and makes it very clear how she expects the parents to behave on the sideline.

As far as the crap on here, people try to stir up trouble. Who knows who the people really are. Certain people have an ax to grind and enjoy watching the fighting. Diamonds dad likes calling everyone M&D dad to attribute everything said to his daughter's old club.

I guess to blinded to see the point... and when your up big and I hear M&D parent talk about how the losing team doesn't deserve to be on the same field as us or this team a joke these are the comments that I have heard many times form some not all M&D parents so it does happen. I honestly don't believe that you have heard an M&D 2021 Black parent saying that any team doesn't "deserve" to be on the field with them. I understand your point and agree with most of what you said. Parents can and do make total asses of themselves on occasion. And the girls do notice as they always recognize their parents voices. Again, if you really did hear an M&D 2021 Black parent making those sort of comments, I sincerely apologize on their behalf. It is certainly not something I have ever heard in all the years my daughter has played there. I cannot speak for other M&D teams parents as I have heard horror stories of some of them.

It got awful quite after angry Diamonds Dad was exposed!!! The bitterness is was fun to read.

Diamonds dad is still here. Said everything I needed to say and I should add, so did others..now if we could get other parents to stop posting about why his daughter and other kids left the team and talking down to other programs we would be all set. Doesn't seem to me that Diamonds Dad did too much to conceal who he is or what he thinks and I can assure you he couldn't possibly care less.

At least Diamonds Dad is not as bad as the dad whose daughter played for Integrity last year. He was VERY quick to introduce himself as a former player at Navy, former air crew member, etc. Then, he and two other cancers proceeded to tear up a pretty good team by talking up API and Md United (of all freakin' clubs) and how those clubs were better (they both suck). Somewhere during the summer he said that the director of Integrity had no clue what she was doing (she's a former NCAA coach) and he was taking his daughter to API. He's a Westbury [lacrosse] who somehow found his way down to Md (God we wish he would go back). Now his daughter is stuck in the blackhole that is API, unfortunately never to be seen again. I feel sorry for the kid, dad is a d!(k. And, he sucks at navigating AE-6's.

At this age and step in the recruiting process, it really doesn't matter if your daughter plays for API, MD United, Integrity, or even Heros for that matter. Colleges coaches aren't scouting teams, they're looking at the individual girls that have been in contact with them. Have your daughter base her decision on what team SHE enjoys playing for, not what you think. Are there cliques on the team? Is it a " me first" environment? I've chatted with college coaches between games and they've told me they don't even know the score most of the time. If you're daughter isn't touching the ball or getting adequate minutes you're wasting your time and money.

I haven't seen API play yet in the spring league, but I did catch some of MD United. What I saw was about 3-4 girls who don't like to share the ball

Why the hate on MD United? That's the case for most of the "top" clubs except M and D Black. Girls are being told by mommy and daddy to showcase themselves so they can get an edge on the recruitment process. That's the way it was 5 years ago and that's the way it will be in 5 years. It's not rocket science.

Looks like their dads have them prepped for the recruiting process.

There's also a mom who is nuts. She has said that she won't accept anything less than a 100% scholarship to Maryland for her lanky lefty. She's turned the kid into a basket case. The mom is a cancer to any sideline. My advice...watch out for her poisonous attitude. If her daughter doesn't score every goal, get every assist and every draw control the mom starts with the put-downs. By the way...she also keeps stats on how many goals the other girls get and how much playing time the other girls get. Watch out!

By the way, I should've said the crazy mom is a Md United parent. Consider yourselves warned Md United people.

I'm headed back to church to light a candle for this girl's future high school coach. And to say a few prayers that they do not end up at the same high school as my daughter.

I feel sorry for this girl. I guess mom doesn't understand that College programs also evaluate the players parents as well. I'm sure this girl is getting looked at, and likely getting passed over, once the recruiters quietly figure out her mom is...... "That mom" ! ! !

You are 100% correct. For my daughter's club team, I was the person who gave out the team brochures to the college coaches during games. I've met well over 100 coaches from all 3 divisions and the NAIA. I've heard MANY conversations amongst the coaches and I can tell you for a 100% fact that they see and hear EVERYTHING. They watch player AND parent attitudes. They take LOTS of notes on everything. I've seen them scratch through a players name because of the attitudes. They will quietly walk among the parents and listen. So, before you (over-zealous parent) yell at a ref or opposing player (that's the worst thing you can do) remember this post. The last thing an underpaid college coach wants to deal with for the next 4 or 5 years is a loud-mouth parent.

Why and how do club coaches tolerate that kind of behavior? It has been mentioned several times that the girl is not all that and yet the mother feels so entitled that she can act in that manner. Forget the club coach - how are the other parents tolerating that sort of behavior? I see in the news and media all the time about people getting offended over the slightest little slip or word. Yet, these parents will sit quietly by while sending the messages to their own kids about this sort of behavior being acceptable. I really do not understand. Is this woman's last name Hogan? Ha ha ha...no, her last name isn't Hogan. She has an intimidating personality and I think most reasonable parents just don't pay much attention to her. However, once she senses a "weak" personality, she sucks them in and gets them to go along with her way of thinking. She's aggressive in her mannerisms, the way she talks, etc. Unfortunately she's a prime example of how some parents act these days, and the children of these types are the ones who pay the price.

Not too early for 2021's at least half the girls on my daughters team have offers already with several already making verbals. But there were no brochures involved. Interesting idea though. What happens with the "secret commitments" now that the early recruiting proposal passed and goes into effect almost immediately. Will the "secret commitments" now have to remain a secret until Sept 1 of junior year? Or are those of you with players who are "secretly committed" able to take it public now before the new rules go into effect by end of April?

Stick your head in the sand if that's what you want to do, tell yourself whatever you need to so you can sleep at night. Your daughter and her teammates may very well not have college coaches looking at them and there may not be any college coaches at their games to hand out brochures to, but that certainly is not the case for all teams and all girls. Typical reaction though, about what I expected. Recruiting for this age group is shutting down next week anyway, so unless you have offers in your hand you will have to wait until junior year to hand out brochures.

Okay, your answer tells me that you're the ILM from Md United East, the ILD from API or a LI [lacrosse] (which is the same as ILD from Westbury). As the parent of a 2016 who was fairly highly recruited (eight D1's), I can tell you with 100% confidence that recruiting 2021's right is a BAD thing. If your daughter is one of the 2021's that is a real person, and is actually being recruited, I recommend that you wait until after junior year to make a decision. There is almost no way she is prepared to face the reality of having to live with a possibly bad decision for the next 8 years. Trust me from first-hand experience. My daughter committed during the early summer after sophomore year and it didn't turn out well. Not all her fault, but the result was the same: not a good choice of school. Be careful what you ask for because you just might get it!

The vast majority wind up going to the same type of college team they would've went to had they stayed at their original club, and they face the same issues at their new club but the parents make the poor kids stay on the new team to 'save face'. A lot of the time the club-jumper is the parent, not the kid.

My daughter is on MDU. It is sad how a few never pass the ball and Coach/Dir just watches. How about all get a chance. For her birthday the girls put small liquor bottles in their tops and threw them at her at practice as a surprise. What did this say to our girls. Not what i am paying for my daughter. No one is allowed to bad talk the queen. so many problems.

As a parent of both a girl and boy that play in the summer and fall circuit of tournaments, the boys tournaments are a much more festive occasion. Instead of criticizing MDU parent behavior, we should thank them for being trailblazers. Maybe now we can all lighten up a bit and enjoy each others company. I know I'll be looking for the MDU tent this summer and their coolers stocked with our favorite beverages.

It's funny that the Heros coach is being talked about, because last summer the club team I was coaching was playing against Heros and sometime during the game their coach yelled onto the field for one of the players to come toward the sidelines. I was about 15 feet from him. As she started to run towards him, he then yelled in addition "And bring me a beer". Now, I'm certain he wasn't serious, but it sure sounded very odd. Not the kind of thing I would expect a coach to yell out during a game, with 8th grade girls. Is this his usual behavior?

I guess I was reading down from the top and I saw an M&D mention and just typo'd it. Sentiment stills applies though. And, my comment was not directed at any one parent on any one club, but all parents on all clubs, although TLC, Heros, M&D and SW have more than their share of over-zealous former athletes. Like I said in my post, the coaches see and hear everything on the field and ON THE SIDELINE. I know first-hand. They bring 2 or 3 coaches to watch a game for a reason: one watching/listening to your little darlings on the field and one watching/listening to the the parents (plus maybe a 3rd). They're not drawing doodles on their tablets or notepads, they're taking notes on player performance, attitude, drama queenism (one of my biggest pet peeves), hustle, etc. And, they're watching you too. So, mind your manners if you want your little Hey-Look-At-Me shoe wearing, ultra-bright pony tail wearing, loud-mouth talking offspring to get that 100% scholly to the University of Wherever.

I find it comical you only call out the parents of the more competitive teams over the others. My guess is your player doesn't play for one of them.

I think he called out the more competitive teams not because his daughter doesn't play on one, but rather because that's where you'll find most of the pompous and self-absorbed parents. While the talent is unquestioned on those teams, in many cases the relationships between the girls on the roster and the parents one the sidelines is superficial at best. They don't play as a team, they play for individual accolades and the eye of college coaches. The parents are more concerned with their daughters stats than with the play of the team as a whole. If this is the behavior you want to model for your kid, be my guest. She's probably just as miserable as you are standing on the sideline watching another kid refuse to pass the ball and stumbles into triple coverage and turns the ball over.

I think that if the club coaches coached their kids to play as a team, the kids would do it. But, when little Suzy gets in the car after practice or is in the car on the way to a game, Over-Zealous Lax Dad (or Mom) tells her to GO TO THE GOAL!: So-and-So can't catch so don't pass it to her, GO TO THE GOAL! : The college coaches are watching so GO TO THE GOAL! SCORE! SCORE! SCORE!
What I'm trying to tell you all (remember I said earlier from FIRST-HAND experience) is that the college coaches see, hear and watch it ALL. Not just the "Hey-Look-At-Me" shoe wearing kid, but also the kid who scraps for every ground ball, the kid who gets up after getting knocked down and hustles back to try to make a play, the kid who IS NOT a drama-queen (I hate the ones who are "hurt" after they score, or the ones who flop, or the ones who complain after every call) etc. No drama queens make my list. AND...they also see and listen to the parents, to see how they behave. If a parent is a GO TO THE GOAL! kind of [lacrosse], a lot of coaches do not want that type of problem for 4 years. In college, Little Hey-Look-At-Me shoe wearer will have to wear the team shoes and won't stand out any more. [lacrosse], she may not play at all for a year or two. How is Over-Zealous Lax Dad (or Mom) gonna handle that? So, if a coach doesn't want to deal with a potential problem parent, she may cross-off Little Hey-Look-At-Me shoe wearer, regardless of talent or how many goals she scores, and go with another player who better fits the team and whose parents are an asset to the team and player. And, you're also correct in your statement that this is more prevalent on the teams I listed above, and that's why I called them out. Think about this; How do you think teams that aren't as successful as the teams I listed above still manage to send kids to college? Because generally, they're on clubs that promote team play over individual play and, trust me, it is noticed and rewarded by college coaches. I'll take team chemistry over Hey-Look-At-Me shoe wearer any day. And, you guys assume I'm male.

My oldest daughter (now playing mid-level D1) went the "top" club route for 6 years. She never really developed any truly close bonds with more than a couple of girls due to real and imagined competition with her teammates. It was clearly more about the individuals and their quest to be recruited. As her dad, I was forced to spend hundreds of hours with the parents of these girls who thought, and often implied, that the other girls were fortunate to be on the same field as their kid. I'm taking a different approached now with my middle schooler. She is on a club that has plenty of talent, but not stacked from roster spot 1-25. Both kids and parents are a breath of fresh air from what we experienced on our first go round. If you're going to be spending countless hours at lacrosse tournaments across the mid-Atlantic, it's better to enjoy it than tolerate it.

Next year the NGLL should go to a 4 team A division and the rest in B. No parity whatsoever. I get the idea that teams want to compete against the best, but some of the scores are worse than rec league pee wee.

There is talk of a girl's version ofthe NLF getting started next year. It would likely start in 8th or 9th grade. I would love to see that happen. The younger girls and boys should go back to MYLA. Back to the old days when lacrosse was a spring sport and being on a team cost $75 and the season ended with Beach Lax. Life was simpler and the kids had fun and were less stressed out.

Unfortunately that train has permanently left the station, and it's not only in lacrosse, but all other sports as well. Too many kids are focusing on one sport and, as a result, the clubs will continue to grow at the expense of town/rec leagues. I wouldn't be surprised if they're almost non-existent in 10-15 years. We've got no one else to blame but ourselves.

Prediction: API Blue in a squeaker over Heros this weekend in the spring league. They're due.

In md, one club gets the best of the best 4th and 5th graders because that's where their parents think they need to be to go pro as if that's an option. Other clubs take a different approach and develop lacrosse players and have a fun family atmosphere to go along with it. Those clubs catch up in 8th and 9 th grade. Much rather go the second route. Happens in every age group that I know of. Three interchangeable teams in md at this age group. Each can beat each other on any given day.

Ranking teams is a fools errand. M&D still has an overwhelming winning record against everyone and they are playing without a significant contributor who unfortunately tore her ACL. SW, Heros, TLC, Stars and Nems are all able to give M&D and one another a good game on any given day. The growing parity is a good thing. The level of play in the SW White v Heros White game Sun was exceptional. There are a ton of very good players in this age group in Baltimore and DC.

If you look at spring league, Heros was still all around most successful club. In all 5 A championship games as well B champions at 21. Yes I am a proud Heros parent.

We have contracted with heros to take care of our light work. The new relationship is working out great!

This is all funny. The good news is M&D plays Skywalkers and Heros on the first day of the first tournament in a few weeks.

They also have NEMS and MD United East that weekend. Not an easy weekend by any stretch of the imagination. We will have a better picture when all is said and done.

Why do you keep trying to infuse MD United into these conversations? Stop already. You will see at tryouts. BA does not know how to coach. She should stick to buying new cars every 6 months and leave the coaching to people who are qualified which is few and far beteeen at MU.

Looking unlikely. Yes U MD were front runners in early recruiting, and any kid likely to get anything near full ride would be the kids that were targeted first. They already targeted and verbaled two from2021, the likelihood of the "full" is get further and further away.

Parents have also noted that they get very little assistance in the recruitment process.
