What Fall tournaments are the top 2021 looking at?

It's hard to plan, especially with a lot of kids playing football and some kids gearing up for hockey season.

Madlax and VLC will need reboots. A few great players on each team, but absolutely zero depth, too many players on the roster in over their heads, and for VLC, serious goalie issues.

Neither team is that great, but you are talking about rising 8th graders. All clubs see a big change from 7th to 8th. Especially VLC since their 7th grade team is their entry year.

Some kids get better, lots of new kids come onto rosters, etc. Your statement is pretty funny (for any club).

Who are the coaches for VLC, Madlax and Black Wolf, 2021?

DC Express 2021 will be very strong - all the BLC kids coming back - 100% - already top tier team - and best kids from other Clubs in DC Area are trying out too. May not beat Crabs again - like BLC did this past summer after losing to them in HOCO Elite Final, but definitely the best Team a 2021 can play on this year - other than Crabs - and seeking to be as good - if right talent is added to mix. Room on roster for sure - as one player moved to 2022 and only had roster of 17 last year - will have 22 this year.

Head Coach will be Bobby Horsey.

Anyone think having tryouts so early is insane? Or is it just me , what happened to letting the kids enjoy themselves after a long hard season. Just putting it out there.

Yup...Things get earlier and earlier...Club programs trying to start before other clubs so they can grab kids first...I am finally seeing that parents have had enough...These clubs that put out 2nd and third/4th grade clubs are now seeing that parents have had enough...They are struggling putting teams together....

Other than crabs - all of these 2021 teams are horrible - none of them are even AA teams.

Crabs make money on tournaments, not the rosters.

They make a B teamusually because they have a coach they want to keep whose son is not good enough to make the Crabs teams.

Unlike a club like Madlax, they are not fielding multiple teams per grade, although they could easily do so.

Madlax has kids from the 2nd team make the top team all the time. The second team plays in good to some great tournaments. Madlax makes money but puts out a great product. 1996 to 2016. I would rather have them make money then play for a club that produces no results and you never know what you will get from year to year. Keep hating them for offering good to great team at all ages and putting all these teams in the best or really good tournaments.

Ok that is fine with me. There is a need that has to be filled. Madlax is not going to the school and telling them to hold this attackman back a year. But there paying customer is. Do not blame the gun blame the gun holding it. And the guy holding it is the parents not Madlax or Crabs or FCA.

The 2021 Hardshell's is canked. I guess they didn't receive the player/parent interest they had hoped for. Kinda strange, being that they hyped it up as if it were a done deal and even posted photo's of the new team helmet.

The BLC 2021 team got rocked in the HoCo AA division.

The 2021 class overall is not strong in the DC region.

Respectfully disagree. Have 2 older sons. Back then, Crabs and Madlax were the only serious club teams. Now, the talent pool is being diluted. VLC and Black Wolf and FCA arrived on the scene. And now you have teams like NL and BLC trying to build up HS teams. If there is going to be a standout 2021 team, NL or BLC will have to cave. However it shakes out, I predict the same number of college commits out of 2021 as all the years before, with the possible exception of 2019 which looks weak.

That was the 'B' team that got rocked in the AA division.

More talent now in the greater Baltimore & DC market area as the game has grown. Enough talent to support several elite clubs beyond Crabs and Madlax. Most importantly - the talent throughout the country has increased tenfold as the game grows. Although the Baltimore / Annapolis / DC private schools still produce outstanding talent, the days of the higher IQ, but lesser athletic kids still making it to the D1 level is declining due to the greater influx of talent from all corners of the country. The athleticism of the game is evolving! At the end of the day, despite your skill set and IQ - are you an athlete to elevate to the next level?

That team has had the same coach for the last 2 years, right? I don't know him personally, but I know a family with a boy on that team and they love his devotion and dedication to the boys. My son is currently trying out for VLC 2021, and I really hope that coach stays.

From what I heard:

1. Madlax has a 2017 kid who is a senior in HS. But he thinks he will PG a year, so he played last summer on their 2018 team and continues to do so.

2. Madlax has a 2017 kid who gave a verbal commitment and is going to graduate this year. But he has spent the last 2 years on their 2018 team.

3. Madlax has a 2018 kid who thinks he will PG, so he is playing on their 2019 team now.

BLC Top Team lost to Crabs in Elite 2021 final and then beat Crabs two weeks later in NLF Event on Long Island - good squad - now DC Express and looking to add players. Without question top team in DC Region.

Everyone playing for 2nd place - Crabs will be stacked - that's ok - ok to be younger and be great team.

Those 2021 kids will move on to different clubs after the year is over and they go to different HS.

Half of the team is public school so they will need to continue to play club lacrosse to be seen

The other half is split between landon and mater dei so no reason they go to a different club

DC Express had 130 at Tryouts - and will have every Top Kid in area. Next Level 2021 will not be competitive on any level.

2020 is one an done - never happen again now that Bethesda Feeds into DC Express.

I guess we'll have to wait and see the results of the fall tournaments for DC Express. Bethesda 2021 is a great team but still not a high school program (8th grade). I'd be surprised if any of the DC Express teams (2020/2019/2018/2017) will be able to field a competitive team to play in the top fall tournaments they're touting per the relationship with LI Express. Unless LI Express provides players from other regions to strengthen what should be very weak teams that would be in the B or C tier of any tournament.

As for "every top kid in area", you can't be serious. DC Express will be well behind BW, Madlax, VLC and probably NL. Even teams like Cavalier and 3d may be better.

There are a few very good 2021 kids in the Bethesda program. Assuming they stay with DC Express, it will be a very good team.

the DC Express Black team will be the same team as the BLC Blue team last year plus a couple of players. There were even two boys from ML capital trying out to be on that team

I'm glad the moderator took down that awful post. But the poster was probably just frustrated. You can't blame the kids for trying out (and being selected) for the team. You can blame the parents for being delusional. It should be obvious by now which kids have real talent, and which are just good players. I'm sure what's happening at VLC is what's happening everwhere else including my kid's club - delusional parents refusing to let their dream of college recruitment die. Unforunately, they screw over the really talented kids (and parents) in the process.

I'm sure they'll have more than 2 poles. The fact that only 2 are listed when most of the rest of the roster is listed is not a good sign however. Certainly means that last year's poles decided to go elsewhere, never a good sign. For the current crop, either offers were rejected and now they are scrambling to find decent backups. Or the invitees are on the fence, considering other offers. Either way, not a good sign for this team.

How are the merely good players screwing over the really talent kids? Isn't this 2021 8th grade? Rabil and Pannell were merely good players at this age. And screwing the parents? Talk about delusional - you may want to look in the mirror.

Not true at all - from a first-hand perspective, when you get your invite, you accept it by e-mailing the coach back. You have a couple of weeks to register/pay on the website - that is not what holds your spot, the acceptance of the invite with the coach does. No one rushes to pay, as long as you've registered by the first fall practice you're good. Look at their 2018 team - there is one player registered, they are one of the best teams around and everyone is returning, they simply haven't paid yet. Same goes with all of their other teams, the 2019s aren't showing a few stellar players I know are returning, same with 2020s, etc. You should know the system prior to commenting.

The funniest part of the statement is "since he took the helm" - he's been the ONLY head coach for that age group of VLC ALWAYS. When VLC had their first 2020 team, he coached that, then when 2020s were in 8th grade (last year), Coach K took the 2021s, and is staying with them this year now that they are in 8th grade. There has never been anyone else steering that ship, and he's a good coach and a good guy all-around.

It sounds pretty consistent with how VLC operates, at least since I've been observing them. 7th grade is their first team, so it's always their weakest. Nearly all the best AA players have been playing for a different club for a few seasons, so that team has to be built from scratch. Their roster always seem to change dramatically as they go to 8th. Maybe some kids come from different clubs, maybe some move to the area, etc. I've seen a VLC team go from a terrible 7th grade team to a great one in 1 year.

I'm sure most clubs see a big change from their youngest team to the following year, but it isn't as dramatic because many clubs have younger youth teams.

As for the coach, I know him and he is a great guy. Just some idiot trying to make up stuff or maybe his son got cut. Parents whose kids play for him love him.

2021 head coach is a great coach. So devoted to the boys and understands the game,. For good measure, you have Langley as one of the assistants. That guy can make lemonade out of lemons and is a true student if the game.

DC Express 2021 is the Top 2021 Team in area . BLC 2021 has always been the best has never lost a game to MadLax, NL, VLC, CB - not even a game within 5 goals and beat NL 20-0 and CB 13-3 last year and only 2021 team in Maryland that beat Crabs. Those are just facts. 100% of the players from BLC returned for DCE and also added 8 new players - including players from Annapolis, Baltimore, Northern VA, and Olney - so drawing kids from other areas. NL had two good players - both now DCE. One CB player came over this year.

2021 is first DCE organically formed team - meaning - BLC boys fed into the mix. The older Teams formed do not have that benefit. DCE 21 is the best of BLC 21 - which was already the best and added several players.

No top players went to NL 2021 Tryouts - only boys who did not make DCE 2021 Black - why would anyone go to NL from BLC after a 20-0 win - that would be a waste of time.

NL will never play DCE at 2021. Would be waste of time.

MadLax 21 likely added players and closed the gap, but please stop talking about NL or VLC - at 2021 they will be aweful. FCA too - BLC beat them 18-2 this spring in hoco.

Crabs and BLC were top 2021 Teams last year and will be again this year and till this year group graduates.

It sounds like there are 40+ kids on this DCE roster. The way BLC changes their lineups moving kids up and down week to week, I guess I am not surprised.

That's when they get to see the other 23. Madlax and VLC and Blackwolf have at least those 2-3 studs every year, and usually more. That's why they will continue to crush the wannabes like NL and Express. So, great, win all those meaningless games NL and Express. The real game is recruitment and y'all are gonna lose that to the DMV Big Boys every time.

You don't need any studs to attract !! , its contact the college coach and they will come take a look and more importantly goto college camps and you will build a contact with that coach They do not specifically waste there time watching a team in general or don't give a rats [lacrosse] what program they are in although connections from that program helps. It's a huge pick of the litter and not feasible for a coach to goto a random game to take the gamble . people are so hung up on Gotta play in A bracket , or We need to win that tournament . It's individualism at this age group now. How well that player performs will be noted by the coach , they look for certain traits that may be of value for their program.

Funny thinking that VLC and Madlax will crush upstarts like NL and Express. For 2020 NL beat Madlax and their National team every time this past season. VLC isn't even close to NL2020.
As for the 2021 kids, the DC Express will dominate including Madlax/VLC.

As for NL 2020, it's a good team. When they last played VLC 2020, they won by 2 goals. I'm sure VLC has improved since then as I'm sure NL has as well. Madlax is behind both of those clubs, but I'm sure their 2020 has gotten better.

Assuming this new Express team gets all of the Bethesda 2021 kids, it will be a good team. The rest of Express, however, has marginal talent.

NL has struggled for years. That 2020 team is very competitive, but the rest of the club is garbage.

sorry to give you the news but winning is very important to attracting better players to improve your program. Clubs like Madlax 2020 learned this last year by not playing in the Howard County League and lost most of their games and tournaments. VLC 2020 will continue to win at the 2nd tier but can't hang with any of the the top 2020 clubs. Having fun is of course important but if your kid is on a bad team they're not going to be invited to the better tournaments where all the college coaches are recruiting players for the "next level".

What years with VLC dominate? Certainly not 2020 or 2021. Guess your kid is having too much fun playing in Halloween Havoc.

I am the guy who wrote the post at 2:56 pm. I am not a VLC dad at all. Our son played for BW and graduated two years ago. He used to play for NL and it was a complete disaster.

BW, Madlax and VLC are light years ahead of NL and Express. BW has had 150+ college recruits in a short amount of time and I'm sure VLC isn't far behind. Madlax is run by a jerk, but they have a lot of great players. All three are on a completely different tier than NL or this new Express thing. Are you kidding me? I've heard NL has a good freshman team and Express has a good 8th grade team. That's not the same as playing for a great club.

You missed my point. Of course winning is important (for the program and for kids). But nobody cares who wins a middle school game. The point is playing for a good program that teaches the game and can help you get to the next level (recruiting, playing in HS). Neither Express or NL have that reputation yet. They could get there eventually, but competition is pretty fierce up there from Madlax and BW.

I don't know anything about the VLC freshman team except that they have one of the best freshman in the country. I also know that BW, VLC and Madlax play in the best tournaments. NL never played in good tournaments and I seriously doubt this new Express team will, either

I have seen VLC 2020 many times over the last 2 years. VLC 2020 has that best freshman in the country you alluded to. That's no exageration. But talent pool falls of pretty quickly after that. I have seen VLC 2021 about half as often. But I predict VLC 2021 will be a better example of what you are talking about - VLC 2021 8th grade team will only win slightly more than they lose. But they have a core group of about 6 boys who with the right coaching (which VLC consistenly provides) will develop into superstar players, and since it's how many people actually take score, will likely be early commits.

First of all - who determines who is THE BEST Freshman in the country? Second - the BEST Freshman is probably a double holdback.

Completely subjective as to who is the "best" in any class. But that kid clearly is on the list of the highest regarded in his class.

I've seen the VLC 2020 team play several times this year and they don't have any kid that would come close to "the best 2020" in the country. I have seen plenty of other top 2020 from teams like FCA/NinetyOne/Looneys/Crabs/LIE who do have some of the top 2020's in the country. VLC is a good B team at best. If they did have the best kid he'd be playing for another club that would provide better exposure.

yes but they were decimated when Millon left and took his 2022 and 2024 teams to T9D1. also the two head coaches of 2020 teams also moved with millon and most kids followed.

New to the area...It would seem that my son has missed many of the tryouts....Any clubs out there that anyone would recommend that I reach out to? Average Heght, Better that average stick skills, average speed....10 years old...Played Lax on the West Coast

10 years would be 5th grade not 2021 right? Some clubs like Breakers, Rough riders, Wolfpack, Koopers may be having supplemental tryouts depending on grade. You could also just do rec in spring to see where he fits. Lutherville, Kellypost, Hereford, Cobra all strong town programs among others depending on where you live

Probably just do rec this Spring. Lutherville, Kelly Post, etc will feel like club from where you are coming from, and will likely do a couple early fun Summer tourneys. Get to know the people in the rec program and at school, and you will get a good feel for what level clubs he should try out for by next year. You'll save $1,500-2,000, and quite frankly, not much meaningful goes on between now and Spring. If he has a great rec season, there may even be some opportunities to jump onto a club team going into the Summer.

Or maybe he lives in the DC area. That is the first question: where does the family live.

Any word on whether 3D Midatlantic might be a stronger team ths year? We know of a VLC kid who decided to play for 3D, so was wondering whether 3D is moving up the ranks.

3d's 2021 team is ok. But it's the only decent team in the entire club. All the other grades are terrible (especially the HS teams).

3d 2022 team is pretty good.

Cav's is better than 3D "three dad's".

3D and Cavs are avg. clubs, tryout for VLC and Madlax if you want a real club. OR wait another year and ask the powers of the BW secret society if your son is good enough to play for them.

Madlax 2021 will need an influx of Cannons at the big tournaments or they'll be laughable. VLC 2021 had a huge changeover. The holdovers from last year range from okay to good to great. If the new kids are generally in the good to great category, VLC 2021 could be a major player for the 2021s.

Cavalier is just about making money. Lots of kids in the youth program, but they bolt once they realize they need to play with and against better players.

3d's HS program is awful. They have a couple of decent youth teams because of those dads who need a platform in order to keep coaching their kids. That won't last either.

I wrote my original post of a public service. If you want to really play top ball at a stop college you need to be at the big 3 BW,Madlax,VLC. The 3D team here in NOVA and the Cavs are just a place to play not a place to be on a great team and play in great tournaments

For sure a step backwards for Madlax 2020. Also kinda weird that Madlax has their practices at Landon but they don't have any Landon players on the team.

There are Landon kids playing on Madlax, just not at the 2020/2021. Only a couple kids who didn't make the better clubs at these 2 age groups. Yes there are Landon players on the older teams 2018/2019. I see beginning with 2020 a major break by Maryland kids from the Madlax program.

I would like to confirm this but NL and DC express have top secret rosters that the world can not read.

My son goes to Landon - there is only 2021 at Madlax
The rest are at DC Express or NL

Madlax has pretty much lost their MD base of kids to Crabs, FCA, NL and now Express. Things are looking pretty bleak for them. Plus the usual number of kids who leave once they hit HS.

I have nothing to do with Crabs and have no idea of the ages of the 2021 players, but a kid born in Sept-dec 2001 should be in ninth grade not tenth. Hold back for sports is bad particularly in lacrosse. But don't exaggerate. And I bet you really don;t know their ages either.

He had a full team fall off season work out and had to send 3 kids to the hospital for Heat related issues. It took 3 ambulances to take them all for help. So tell me again has anyone ever died from a mean email or being yelled at. Or have people died from a coach so crazy he runs his whole team to a point that 3 kids in a fall workout drop like flys and need to leave in a ambulance?

Eclipse......great team but a lot of older players. They had a difficult time in the last couple tournaments of the summer season. Understand they picked up a few more 8th grade repeaters. Excellent.

I agree uniforms and the looks of a teams uniforms are not that important. But a team like VLC who do tend to strike out every year with the choice of uniforms they pick is a good topic. Maybe they can ask Madlax to design next years?

I've heard it's a good club, but as others have pointed out was somewhat decimated when MM left and took everyone with him. From what I understand they are now trying to rebuild, new coaches, new kids etc. I haven't heard anything negative about the current group, but have heard a lot of negative things about Millon...acting crazy on the side lines, screaming at refs and even kids on opposing teams.

So if this is a Maryland forum shouldn't it say Boys 2021/ Freshman possibly Sophomore in high school? I think that is more like it.

Has Hawks AA team gained players? They are certainly well coached. I saw their A team play and they had some size and some decent players.

Some A team kids came up and some AA kids went down and a few from other clubs - rockfish, API, eastern shore. New coach made changes. They'll be very good again.

If the Hawks are taking players from Rockfish, that means the club is falling apart.

Crappy teams have a great player or two. Some parents are slow to realize how good their son is.

This is true when talking about a player here or a player there. Problem is wholesale changes every year. 2021 Crabs have been pretty stable, just question the heart of some of the key players. Don't know about MDXtreme kid who joined them, if he is a gamer who can lead, than he is a great addition. Crabs 2021 will be skilled, but do they have the intangibles that are needed in that 4th game of the day final? Don't think so.

Rock Lacrosse, in early November, completed a merger with Bitmore Boys Lacrosse program, founded and Directed by Brendan Mundorf, former UMBC 2x All American, 2X American East Player of the Year, 2X Team USA World Team, 1st round NLL pick for the LarryMiller Titans, 1st round MLL draft pick of the Denver Outlaws where over 7 seasons is the all time leader is Goals, Assists, and Points, Goals earning All MLL Team honors in 2009; currently attakman for the Chesapeake Bayhawks.

Bitmore middle school boys teams will play under the Bitmore name/brand through the 2017 spring and summer season's and then merge into the Rock program starting Fall 2017. Coach Mundorf will assume a director's position in the Rock Program, while directing the 2021 age group and assistant directing with our 3rd-6th grade teams.

So when two B programs merge does that mean the will play in the BB division?

The 2021 Rock team will be much improved. No change for the rest of Rock.

Looney's are falling apart because they were built on great 2015 and 2016 teams. The 2020 team is excellent, but the rest of the program is garbage. Meanwhile, they field B teams at most ages just to bring in money. They also cut two teams completely, leaving those parents scrambling.

Garbage. Rather strong words from someone who probably has an ax to grind. Beside their strong 2020 Orange team, Looney's has won tournament championships in 2016 in the following brackets: 2019 Orange, 2022 Orange, 2023 Orange, 2024 Orange and 2025 Orange.
The two teams cut happened at least 2 to 3 years ago and the sound reasons why that happened has been discussed on the forum many times. It was the proper and correct action to take to protect the players and provide a better opportunity for them.

While all this does sound true and you do make a point. But when you try to use a High school coach to prove a point you fall off some. A high school coach needs the extra income so they take the best option to put their name to. That makes them the most money.

Andy is coaching Looney's because his son plays for this club. If it were garbage, as suggested by another poster, I do not think he would have his son playing for them. That is the point, not the money. HS lax coaches make most of their extra income from summer lax camps, not coaching a club team in the spring.

Middle school kids play on teams that their friends play for...as they migrate to HS and recruiting they tend to head for the competitive programs. As Looney's has show, they can field some very competitive teams. This will be a forever changing dynamic. There was a time when the Crabs were the best program, Greene Turtle was once very competitive at all age groups. FCA came on the scene and hurt Greene Turtle, Breakers and Looneys. They will all have at least one strong age group, all depends on where the best coaching is for that age group.

My god, is that all you have to do with your time. I do know that 2022 played in b, there is no c. My son played against them in the b division. Except for 2022, every team played in the highest division. I'm not a Looney's parent, but I give this club credit for playing in the highest division and challenging themselves, that is how you improve. I would bet these same teams play in the same divisions this coming spring in the HOCO league. There are not many clubs that have as many grade brackets as Looney's and a few others. Most stop at 2023 as they don't want to be bothered with the younger kids. All teams could choose to play in the lower divisions but that doesn't challenge kids if they easily win every game by wide margins. That said, why don't you post who your kid plays for and their results in HOCO? I'm amazed how some just like to jump on clubs and kids and do their best to knock them. True unsportsmanlike to say the least. What next, try and find out how they do in school and post that.

FCA and Dukes were 2022 teams playing in an age bracket with a 6/1/2002 birthdate cutoff. There was a huge size advantage for those other teams and they did very well considering.

Why not travel north to Maryland, not as far as NY and the teams in Md are better than NY teams. That is the one error in your post. But I agree, it is expensive to travel, for the club and parents. Ever think the NY teams are hiding from you.

Our Tarpon Team can beat 80% of the teams on LI. Providing they are age appropriate. Unlike what you upstanding parents allowed to happen at WSYL.

What are folks thoughts on the Brine National Lacrosse Academy?

I've heard expensive, not very "elite" and no recruiting value, but others have said they liked it.

Total scam. If you don't mind paying a lot of money for a vacation, then it's fine. Otherwise, it's a waste of time and money. Zero recruiting benefit. Some kids are good, some kids can't play.

The organizers make a ton of money and that's the focus.

Who's going to win the capital box tourney?

Lax Factory, Rochester Jr. Knighthawks, & Madlax Capital North Stars won their 1st games.

It's really cool so many of the NLL Jr. teams are participating. There needs to be a Jr. Thunder or Jr. Arrows/Wave teams as well.

This tournament was a lot better last year. Sweetlax, Team 91, Blue Star all sent multiple teams.

Not so much this year. Pretty much just local teams. Quality of play has gone down big time.

Any tournament that combines ages (u9, u11, u13) is geared toward rec teams and not the highest competition. The grade based tournaments are usually have much better teams.

Unfortunately - this is true - which speaks volumes about what is wrong with this sport.

I can tell you why... rules and officiating.

This tournament does not use real box rules (USBOXLA or other sanctioning organization). So teams that come in from out of town that have played sanctioned tournaments all the sudden don't know the rules.

This set of rules may be what Madlax uses for their winter league, and I guess that's OK if you're used to that set of rules, but it's not real box. And even those rules that draw from real box aren't usually called correctly because the officials don't have an appreciation for or any real training in box.

There are a lot more fights at this tournament then I generally see at other box tournaments, and I think the rules and lack of training for officials are a big reason for that.

Box has a reputation for being a "rough" game, but I think that's more because of all these factors playing out, not because the game in and of itself is rough. It certainly can be more physical, particularly in close with moving picks and all that, but trained box officials tend to call slashing, roughing, and checks from behind a lot tighter to keep the games under control. And don't get me started on interference.

No, the teams were pretty marginal. Much better lineup. Those teams from the north must have found a better event closer to home on this MLK weekend.

Look at LF 2021 and 3d 2021 being in the finals. Those are two very marginal teams. The lineup overall was weak.

Hawks won MMILL but the competition this year was not as stiff as years past.

Hawks are a great team and will do well outdoors, but the MMILL was not traditional box from what I understand. Crabs and DC Express have good box programs.

What Box leagues do the 2021 Crabs and 2021 Express play in?

Express may play in the DMV Premier League but I thought that was just a bunch of play days and not a real League. (Not that you don't get better on play days)

Ah because if you are picking a private high school for your son to attend you might want to know if they have 5 new attackman attending the school next year. You want me to take the head coaches word on what kids are coming and what they play.

Don't let your kid pick a school based on how many kids play his position at lacrosse. Pick a school that is right for him socially and has a curriculum that will most likely enable him to be successful. If he ends up being good at HS lacrosse, great, but you are not paying 30k to watch 12 JV lacrosse games next year. Lastly, please send him to boarding school, so he does not have to live with a parent that would do an 8th grade student search, anonymously and publicly, naming minors, on an open lacrosse forum. So I am guessing Madlax will not play their 8th grade team in HOCO every year from now on? Or did HOCO not let the Madlax 2021 team in the Elite bracket again like last year. I see Madalx Capital is in the Elite bracket in 2022 to 2026. Just wondering about the politics of the HOCO league and Madlax?

I think DC Express will be a very difficult team to beat this year. The bottom 3-4 teams could easily be in AA division (Looney's, Bitmore, FCA, Madlax)

No, only HS teams....2020, 2019, 2018 etc. 2021 is middle school.

Players from clubs throughout the DMV try to get a roster spot on BW once they hit the HS level. It's typically not the other way around.

Crabs will eat the competition up. They are that good. I doubt the lose one game this year.

And if that happens it is because they are loaded with holdbacks. Deny it all you want but this team is full of holdbacks, many should be playing 2020 and not 2021.

Must cost you a fortune in double tuitions, nice that you have that second job flipping burgers at night. My son, well above average, has been talking to three top Div 1 schools since last fall. So don't assume so much when you get called out for your little johnny repeating a grade so he can try and be a great player Did Ryan M suggest the repeat year or did you figure that out all by yourself.

Yep, the rules are the rules, seems you and your "associates" like to take full advantage of them, by creating a team almost entirely of holdbacks, 2020 players pretending to be 2021 players. Guess by end of spring or early summer some will be driving themselves to their games.

Saw VLC 2021 the other weekend. Has the makings of the best VLC team for years. 2020 and 2019s were duds. They might even beat Madlax.

The more likely scenario is that teams keep the best kids at tryouts.

Is there anything in life that your son will be doing by exact birth year between now and forever, except for celebrating his own birthday? Why do you think you are entitled to a birth year regulation in a grade-based private lacrosse league?

I am hearing more and more of 53 and 54 year spouses that are getting into these tennis and shuffleboard leagues in 55+ communities in Florida and running the tables. They are using their older spouses to get into these leagues, it is out of control. Totally gaming the system.

My son is on VLC 2021. They replaced 1/2 the team from last year which is normal for VLC. Unlike Madlax VLC begins in 7th so it takes the team longer to put together talent.

You're wrong about VLC 2020 though. That team has some serious talent and will be good this summer.

They might be good kids, but there arent a bigger bunch of d bags than the parents / directors of that team. And they have all been saying they are the best for the last 3 years. Have fun...jerk.

These are some huge 8th graders. I hear Madlax also is filled with kids repeating grades as well.

If you are a team with no kid older than August 2002 and you have a normal range of kids hitting puberty, it's pretty much impossible to compete with AA teams who are loaded with older kids or early maturing kids. Hardly the end of the world, of course, but I don't see how college coaches find the best players watching 2021 teams when so much of a kid's relative ability on the field is tied to when he hits puberty. Anyway, if your son wants to play at PSU or Michigan or Hopkins or Maryland or UNC (some great choices there that early recruit), it's the smart play to either hold your kid back or move your early maturer to a AA team like that. I'm just glad my kid's favorite two D1 schools (for lacrosse and in general) put the breaks on early recruiting.

Dont know about these kids. The whole holdback/reclass/prefirst is out of control with 8th grade lacrosse and under. No end in site . So anyone considering their child to play should hold their child back..Or start him one year later. So many doing it now. It doesnt seem that unusual. Especially in the private schools. Look at at most coaches that have kids that are in private schools. ALL HELD BACK

Last week. Crabs struggled with Koopers, I was surprised by that because the Crabs are loaded. Koopers looked really good though. DC Exp doubled up API but they are lucky they didn't play a deeper offensive team. DC-Exp was man down for a total of 6 +/- minutes, with multiple 2 men down, and API did nothing with the advantage.

GT v lax factory only close game this weekend. Watch out for lax factory. Looneys/fca also decent game. Others won't be that close.

Mostly all public school kids. Typically does not apply to that crowd. Very much aware of the rampant pre-first and holdbacks among the DC and Baltimore privates.

Repeating 8th grade is a popular one.

Kids can either go into high school with poor grades and less mature or they can take a year to get their grades up and mature a little. It's the last chance to do this. Repeating 9th grade doesnt help anything because you've lost a year of eligibility and the grades are on your transcript.

Do you realize how wrong you sound. Everyone knows that grades from 8th grade do not count for anything, unless its a high school class taken in 8th grade. So no kid in 8th grade needs to improve his grades. And if you can afford to pay 18k to 45k for high school for your son. And he is behind in his school learning you are the worst parent on earth. You should of sold the Rolls and got him a tutor way before 8th grade. The mature thing is just code word for gaining 30 pounds and 2 or 3 inches so he can play Var. as a freshman because he really is a Soph. Just tell the truth you are working the system man up and stop hiding behind lies.

You are confusing two subjects that should have nothing to do with each other. What a parent does for his child to get an education is his right and no one has a problem with that. But your choices for your child's education does not give you special privileges in youth sports others dont have.
Youth Sports not High School has always been about even playing field and development of players.
Having select kids that for whatever reason were held back being able to play down, while same exact age kids who parents decided to keep them on grade dont, Just doesnt seem right or in the spirit of Youth Sports.

But we have a huge amount of private school parents and now some public school parents that find nothing wrong with this. There is an advantage to be gained with having your child one of the oldest. Private Schools in MD are the ultimate goal of Lacrosse players and they ate the reason we have this situation

However, there were (and still are in rec leagues) "age bands" (i.e. U-9, U-11, U-13 etc.). The age bands were not perfect and were not well enforced, but age mattered (at least around the edges). With the advent of grade based teams, the age of the players has become irrelevant. The only criterion is what grade the player is in regardless of his age. The only limit on how old a player can be and still play on a particular grade based team is how many times the player's parents are willing to "hold back" their son. This has proven to be no limit at all and from my perspective an age band should apply to grade based teams. In other words have grade based teams, but also have an age restriction. Grade based teams have led to wild disparities in the size of the players on the field that would comical except for the danger it presents to smaller players (the smaller players being in many, if not most cases at the appropriate age for the grade).
