This thread will be used to carry news and information related to the Looney's Girls Lacrosse Program.

History, Mission, Philosophy

History

MISSTIX was an independent, volunteer based, local Harford County girls lacrosse club, based in the Bel Air area that was started in 2005. It was founded by Rick Fallin (former Harford Tech Varsity head coach) as a club team to give the girls of the Harford Tech Girls High School team a place to play. The first 2 years the club supported only one HS varsity team.

In 2007, the club expanded to include a HS Junior Varsity team and a Middle School team. In 2008, the club again expanded to include 3 high school teams and one middle school team.

In January of 2008, Looney’s Pub approached the MISSTIX club and with their generous sponsorship, the MISSTIX Lacrosse Club made the transition to it’s current form as the Looney’s Lacrosse Club.

In 2009, the Club was expanded to include 6 teams, covering the years, from 6th to 11th grades. Every year, a 5th grade team will be considered based on interest level.

Mission

Our mission is to help young women build a solid foundation of fundamental lacrosse and skills. Our vision is to provide excellent teaching, coaching, and competition to every member student-athlete to help them prepare for life and lacrosse at the high school and college levels.

Philosophy

All Looney’s players will receive a high quality education at an affordable price in a friendly yet challenging environment in order to have the opportunity to play against teams from all over the country and be seen by coaches from all over the country.

Our young ladies will be seen competing at the same tournaments as the other clubs in our area. This exposure enhances their chances of receiving financial assistance in the form of academic and athletic scholarships.
Our teams offer a family-friendly lacrosse experience that annually assists student athletes from over 25 different area middle and high schools in their efforts to improve their life skills and lacrosse skills while showcasing themselves to college coaching staffs.

Our organization is NOT just about the business of lacrosse. We feel that lacrosse should be one part of a student-athletes middle and high school experience, and not the focus of it. Competing in other high school sports, meeting the demands of school course loads, and having free time to spend with family and friends is often more important in shaping a player’s character than just playing lacrosse year round. Looney’s emphasizes the ability of a player to lead a balanced life because experience tells us that colleges appreciate the well-rounded student-athlete. Therefore, we strive to strike that balance with our level of tournament and practice participation. Looney’s also knows that family involvement not only makes the experience more enjoyable but is a necessity if the young lady is going to continue her lacrosse career into the collegiate ranks. Therefore, we strive to have family members involved (even if it’s just making brownies for a tournament tailgate) with our organization to assist in and share in their daughter’s successes on and off the field.
