Taft/Brunswick game very enlightening. Brunswick won 14-7. That was the difference between an elite defensive unit and a so-so defensive unit. Pre-season rankings are just a finger in the air guesstimate based on starred recruits, not on chemistry, coaching or being battle ready. Brunswick played through a gauntlet of stiff competition all spring and had to figure out multiple ways to win, Taft never did, and it showed - their offense ran the same play over and over and forced passes to marked players in the interior the whole game or #25 and #2 took a lot of low angle shots that missed the cage entirely. And I say this with the knowledge that Deerfield is probably the best team in the country now. |
