Holding back in and of itself is not helpful for recruiting. The D1 coaches just want their players to be 20-23 for their four years and not 18-21. They don’t care how this is accomplished. D1 hockey coaches want the same thing. Yet youth hockey is played by birth year. A birth year system at the youth level is not inconsistent with what lacrosse D1 coaches want.
