Easy to snipe. Its always a Faustian bargain coaching. Are you loyal to the kids who were great in 7th and 8th grades but have plateaued and are actually falling behind now. My answer is make the hard decision during cuts and allow these players to re-deploy to a club where they'll be top fiddle. Dragging tough personnel decisions out only makes them more difficult and makes relations more acrimonious. On the other side of the ledger, kids who have blossomed are looking to upgrade clubs and play with the best. Their decision is also difficult as the grass is always greener somewhere else. Many of these players will be making similar decisions in September. Do you go to a top D3 or mid level D1 and start right away or hope you'll develop enough to play at a top 10 program vs being a practice player for 4 years? Hard to get kids to understand the trade offs: Education, $$ and PT.
