Rattlers Victorious While Bayhawks, Cannons Fall
DENVER – The Denver Outlaws (5-4) were unable to make a comeback and defeat the Rochester Rattlers (2-7) this evening, losing 15-8 at PAETEC Park in Rochester, New [lacrosse].

Although Outlaws midfielder Max Seibald scored the first goal of the evening after three minutes of play, the Rattlers' offense responded less than a minute later with a 3-0 run. The first half continued to belong to the Rattlers as they outscored the Outlaws 9-3. Rattlers attacker Ned Crotty began his offensive surge in the first half, recording four goals.

The Outlaws relied on Drew Westervelt as their primary offensive asset, completing a hat trick in the third quarter, and finishing with four goals on the night.

The Outlaws offense received other goals from Seibald at the :44 mark of the fourth quarter, Brian Langtry at the 2:44 mark of the fourth quarter, and Brendan Mundorf at the 13:52 mark of the first quarter.

Rochester goalie John Galloway put together another impressive outing, holding the Outlaws to eight goals on 22 shots on goal (.636 pct.). The rookie out of Syracuse saved 19 shots when the two teams played at INVESCO Field at Mile High one week ago.

The Outlaws return to INVESCO Field on Saturday, July 30 at 7:00 p.m., and will face the Boston Cannons.

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Attackman Danny Glading scored two goals and dished off three assists for Chesapeake (5-4), which missed an opportunity to clinch a playoff berth on Saturday before a crowd of 7,793 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Midfielder Ben Hunt scored two goals while fellow midfielder Justin Smith contributed two assists for the Bayhawks, who had a two-game winning streak snapped.

Lizards goalie Drew Adams anchored a suffocating defensive effort that lifted the Long Island Lizards to a 15-8 victory over the Chesapeake Bayhawks. Adams, a third-year professional out of Penn State, made 16 saves to shut down a Chesapeake offense that came in averaging nearly 13 goals per game. Adams has been on fire of late and was just named Major League Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week after making a career-high 24 saves to help Long Island upset first place Boston, which had a five-game winning streak snapped.

"It wasn't offense or defense. We play as a team. We win as a team and we lose as a team," Chesapeake owner and head coach Brendan Kelly said. "It was a team loss. We didn't play well as a team tonight – offensively, defensively and in the specialty areas."

Chesapeake wasted a dominating effort by faceoff specialist Alex Smith, who won 22 of 27 draws. Goalie Brian Phipps stood tall with 12 saves for the Bayhawks (5-4), who managed just two goals over the final 3 ½ quarters.

"We had plenty of opportunities. I'd say in the second and third quarters alone, 70 percent of our shots were from right on front of the cage. Great angles, great looks and we're not finishing them. It was the same shot every time," Kelly said.

Glading scored two goals as Chesapeake raced out to a 5-1 lead with just 7:23 elapsed in the first quarter. Smith dished off two assists during the early onslaught as the Bayhawks displayed superb ball movement and pinpoint shooting accuracy.

However, the offense went stagnant thereafter and the Bayhawks managed just three goals the rest of the way. Adams made 10 of his saves during the second and third quarters to give the Lizards a chance to come back. Berger closed the second quarter with back-to-back goals as Long Island rallied to tie the score 6-6 at halftime.

Hunt scored the opening goal of the third quarter to put Chesapeake back ahead 7-6, but the visitors totally took over from there. Grant scored both of his goals while attackman Matt Danowski had a goal and an assist to lead a decisive 9-0 run for the Lizards.

Attackman Tim Goettelmann and midfielder Stephen Peyser scored three goals apiece for Long Island (4-5), which remains in the hunt for one of four playoff berths. John Grant Jr. totaled two goals and an assist while fellow attackman Ryan Young added two goals for the Lizards, who have now won two straight.

There was some good news for Chesapeake on Saturday night as it did not lose ground to either of the teams it trails in the standings as Boston (6-3) and Denver (5-4) both lost. The Bayhawks will try to get back on track next week at home against Hamilton.

"What we tell the team is: You've got to forgot about this one, go back to work and be better," Kelly said.

The Bayhawks return home this Saturday, July 30th to battle the Hamilton Nationals at 7:00 pm. The game will be live on Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic.

Boston, MA - July 23, 2011: Paul Rabil scored his 100th career goal as the Boston Cannons (6-3) returned home to Harvard tonight, but it was not enough as the Hamilton Nationals (5-4) prevailed, 16-12. Unable to regain momentum in the second half after a nine-goal second quarter, the Cannons suffered their second loss in a row. Hamilton goalie Scott Rodgers earned Bud Light Player of the Game honors for his 20-save performance.

Hamilton started off hot in the first quarter, shutting out the Cannons 3-0. Brett Bucktooth scored the first two goals of the game against goalie Jordan Burke while Jeremy Boltus scored one more as the quarter ended.

After a slow start, the Cannons were busy during the second quarter, scoring five unanswered goals to start their nine-goal rally before the half. Kevin Buchanan started the scoring for Boston while Paul Rabil, Max Qunizani, Ryan Boyle and Matt Poskay all scored in order to give the Cannons their first lead on the night. Buchanan showed off his long range skills as well, scoring a 2-pointer and giving Boston an 8-5 lead. The teams traded goals for the rest of the quarter, with the Cannons taking a 9-8 lead into the half.

The Nationals began the third quarter with four goals in order to take the lead for the remainder of the game. Poskay broke Hamilton's streak with two goals in a row, bringing the Cannons back within one. However, it was not enough for Boston as Donny Moss scored to end the third quarter in favor of Hamilton, 13-11.

In a quiet fourth quarter, Buchanan was able to jump start the Cannons' offense with his third goal on the night, keeping Boston within one. But with three goals to close the game, Hamilton clinched the win.

The Cannons travel to Denver for the last time this season to face the Outlaws on July 30th at 9:00 PM EST. The Cannons' last home game is Saturday, August 13 against the Rochester Rattlers at 7:00 PM EST.
