Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks says the county will try to salvage Empire State Games.

A day after the state said it’s pulling funding for the games, Brooks says she and the local committee will try to raise the money to save them.

The Empire State Games were scheduled to be held in Rochester next summer.

Brooks says it takes $500,000 to $1,000,000 to run the games and will try to raise the funds – especially from corporate sponsors. Brooks says there is no money in the county budget to use.

According to the Monroe County Sports Commission, the county committed $200,000 for the games and New York State committed $1.2-million to $1.3-million.
