"Shoelace incident" while having no effect on anything is just absurd. It really does not matter that a Syracuse player stepped on the back of her shoe. If the Syracuse player created a foul by doing that, then make the call. If not, then do not stop play. Could you imagine a NCAA womens basketball championship stopped because a sneaker came off.
The officials can pretty much do whatever they would like to do regardless of the rules. Their mantra appears to be that the call that they make depends on the situation. They only thing that ensures is that there is no consistency.
