LOL. Instead of endless tirades about teams with supposed "illegal" players, now you guys rail against private schools and Catholics?

I'm catholic, but you're really not going to try and defend the church's record on that subject? Are you? Honestly, given that record, I would never send my son to an all boys catholic school.

How is your 2017 player feeling about the early commitments as of late?

Is there added pressure now to "perform better"?

Even the Turtle boys aren't "shaking up" anything on their varsity teams! One has a couple goals, F/O star is mediocre at best! So which boys are you suggesting are excelling as freshman, with all the recruiting pressure on?

Sounds like all the LI 2017 commits are doing pretty good for themselves right now in their public or private HS's.

Question: what percentage of kids could commit as 9th graders but hold out for something better? Does that happen or is the practice to grab the first offer? Do kids (and their parents) get swept up in the early commit frenzy and fear available slots get filled the longer they vo without commuting?

This seems to be the first year where these 9th graders are committing in such large numbers.
You only verbal for your dream school, most Coaches respect the verbal and lay off. So many good Players and a lot of great schools. Lots of programs improving.

Agreed. I am from MD, not LI, but my understanding is that kids from some schools don't play varsity as freshman. Chaminade is one example I was told of. Basically, I think at this point the only level play evaluation of 2017s is club play. My son starts on his varsity team and has lights out stats. But his team sucks and their schedule is whatever. There are some JV players at MIAA teams who are committed to places like Hop. I don't understand how a high school resume means anything as a freshman to the negative. The fact is a lot of great 2017 players are at prep schools where there are a lot of great players ahead of them in older classes.

I thought the Turtles were without question the best 2017 team I saw. I thought a lot of them merit being high level D1 prospects and think it is silly to propose maybe they are not all that because a few of them run JV at Chaminade. Stupid.

Any committed 2017 player or parent feeling stress over being under pressure to perform better this Spring...well, you're insecure, phony tough, soft and in for a bad ride ahead. I am not a former lacrosse player, but did play D1 in two sports at a Pac 10 school and made All-America in both. Not a humble brag or point about me...this is all on your kids and you.

Committing to a college and then swagging out in your future college shorts and sweatshirts amongst your club or high school teammates, and Twittering about "your team" that you won't be on campus to play on for years is pathetic. I'd whoop my boy back into shape pretty good for trying that one.

Train hard, compete hard, be a good teammate and be a good kid off the field. Oh, and by the way, those are the four things that will make you stand out to the college coaches who recruited you when you arrive. When you arrive, everyone WAS a good recruit, and that won't ever matter for anything ever again.

Stop being such a [lacrosse]. You're from New [lacrosse]. Start acting like it.

Who knows. And how do you know these players grab the 1st offer?? Are you assuming they only got 1 offer?? And even if they did take something as a holding spot than good for them. There are not as many spots at the mid to high level D1's as many think, meaning spots where you go early and get money and will play when you get to that college.

Good for those boys, I'm sure they will keep doing great. Good thing they are in a public school lacrosse system, otherwise we are looking at freshman team.

2018 parent here. Please advise on fall showcase for next years freshman.

Philly Freshman Showcase
NAT175

Is there a fall Jake Reed or Maverick Showtime event?

Any others that are worth it?

Thank you in advance.

Easy does it.....take a breath and reread the post. It was just a question and not even remotely critical.

IN order of importance in my opinion:

- Philly Showcase - by far the best and most important
- Nat'l 175 and Jake Reed Fall - even with Jake Reed less important in the Fall than in the summer. In fact, many of the top kids attended Philly Showcase over Jake Reed as they were on the same weekend.
- Everything else

In terms of Fall tournaments, Terrapin Classic was the best attended by college coaches for the 2017s this Fall followed by the Big 4, NSLCA Fall Classic, and 3D in fl$. There may have been others.

Combined league record for the teams listed is 8 wins 9 losses. Factor in that Smith E is 3-0. Only Bayshore at 2-1 has a winning league record.

Doubt many at Sta or Cham are older in the freshman class lacrosse wise. I know of one (maybe two) at Cham. Really aren't many others as far as I know, nice try.

I am glad they are playing varsity - its just, don't give them credit for being a freshman. But even if they were a Soph playn varsity its an accomplishment.

Talk about an overinflated know it all. Did you learn any reading comprehension at your PAC 10 school or were you just the ultimate jock?

Read the OP again: it asked if the 2017's in general (not specifically the committed ones) are feeling any pressure as a result of the recent commits in the 2017 class.

Normally these issues would have been encountered in the upper classman years. Being that slots are now going earlier; does then the non committed, high caliber 2017 player feel any added pressures to perform better in order to secure their position at the school(s) of their dreams?

Accurate comments please.

Committing as a 9th grader is an accomplishment too I guess. And taking up a roster spot while never seeing the field at that college is an accomplishment too. Many of the LI and MD people will carry the same baggage all the way. There will be an excuse in the future for why you kid can't play at the next level. The reason is LI and MD club owners and parents would like to quarantine the sport, and the eventual outcome is you can't manipulate that at a higher level. D1 coaches have better problems than listen to you whine about how special your son it. That's your club owner's job.
