At game vs Huntington the girls were reckless and the coach was constantly screaming at the girls and the refs.

Just a quick heads up to everyone that the rules changed this year. There is absolutely no horizontal stick-play in HS girls lacrosse. This is going to lead to and has already led to a lot of whistles.Players ,coaches and spectators are going to be frustrated. Lets hope for good weather this week because lax is better in the sunshine...have a great week folks and try to accentuate the positive..Life is too short.

If girls and coaches play team first with good sportsmanship there can't be anything but positive posts. Sadly in todays selfish play environment I am not holding my breath. Good luck to all!

What does that even mean? You cab't run with one hand on the stick and pump down field with the other? We played 4 games and the refs were fine w it, if that's what you mean?

No it is on the defensive side any contact to the body when the cross is below 10 oclock 2 oclock will be considered horizontal and the defense will be called as a major foul.

LOL , talking about defensively , cannot turn your stick horizontal at all when playing defense. I think it's a bad rule change , it's hard enough to play defense in girls lacrosse as is.

It is concerning making stick to body contact while the stick is being held in a horizontal position. Officials are being instructed to strictly enforce this during the season.

The way it was explained to me is think crosschecking in hockey. Once the stick drops down below 10 and 4 creating defensive width it will be called. they want that stick straight up and down more in a wind shield wiper fashion. IS THIS CORRECT?

Of course if you do that they will call you for having your stick in the sphere.

Rules committee made the rule interpretation changes to minimize HS girls w/ arm, shoulder and back injuries due to rough stick play on D and in the midfield.

Smart Post. All the complainers should read this, it may help them understand what is going on, and stop blaming the exceptional players for being.....exceptional!

You really are a moron , that post in no way supported ball hog kids running up their stats against inferior teams.Exceptional , get over yourself mom.

I agree ball hogs and coaches who create them should not be tolerated in games that have a more then 10 goal lead. Some of us pay big bucks during the summer to play competive lax and some of us don't. Should the girl who doesn't be punished and demoralized by another team and their coach just so these superstars can have higher stats. And what's even more demoralizing is when another team is ahead of your team and that coach is yelling and screaming and carrying on as if they are losing...it needs to end.

What is weird is that you have no idea what the difference between girls and boys lacrosse is supposed to be and thus your ignorant comments. Horizontal stick position while defending is the direct result of all knowing lacrosse dads who teach their girls to play defense like a boy. Obviously you have never seen the welts and black and blues on a girls arm from receiving cross checks. Not overly attractive. Defense can be played, and played effectively with the stick vertically, feet movement, and well timed slides. The game does not need to be played out of control but it is because girls are taught incorrectly at an early age.

I Hope " little Shannon is fictional " if not it is very disturbing that we as adults,(an assumption)have to pick on 14 yr old children to make our points. As for blowouts and ball hogs that should and must be controlled by the coach. If the girl is good enough to score 11 points, what the [lacrosse] is she even doing on the field long enough to score like that. Anyone associated with games like this know the result on the bus ride over. why let it get to 19-0 final or even 10-0 in the first. Coaches, parents and players need to show a little more respect for their opponents in all competition.

I think that there are too many girls playing varsity lacrosse that should not be. You people are blaming girls for being too good! This is rediculus. Some of us have invested years of money and time to get our girls to this position. We are hoping for college scholarships. In college it will be even more intense. As Varsity players, Stats matter. If you have to complain about girls scoring too many points, or being too rough, your daughter should not play. Find a non-contact sport like swimming and try not to complain if your daughter gets splashed!

In Nassau league play is based on the skill level of teams . All of the best teams without regard to school size play each other. I would think this set up would help clear up the blowout wins by 15 or more. Middle level teams play schools of equal skill and so on. However when the playoffs start everyone has to play in their correct division based upon the schools student population.

Go watch a college game , all the defenders play with their sticks horizontal at times but of course your daughter has better technique than the best collegiate defenders in the nation.Let me know what team your daughter plays defense for so I can watch a kid who has been trained by the master.

First, you are 100% correct. College kids are taught and play with the stick horizontal because it is not a major foul at that level. The 2014 rule changes are specific to High School and Youth Leagues. The link below should be of use to you. Try reading it then opine on the topic.

http://www.uslacrosse.org/rules/girls-rules.aspx

Most likely this rule will eventually be adopted at the collegiate level as well but I have no facts to back that up. It is just my opinion.

Next, you are also 100% correct that bruises have nothing to do with the discusssion but player safety has everything to do with the discussion. The bruises are the direct result of players using the crosse to cross-check. You eliminate the horizontal crosse as a way to defend and enforce (and teach) the rules as written then players are less likely to be injured.

Lastly, my daughters (who play attack and defense) have had to change their technique to defend because of the rule change. So no, their technique is not better than the best collegiate players but it is different based on the rules with which they play. It is being taught to them at the high school and club level. It started this winter and continues through the spring/summer.

I guess I will know who your daughter is because she will be the one standing 4 meters behind my daughter as she gets ready to take a free position shot.

Moron?!?! That's funny...

Again you show what a moron you are, not a major foul , nor is it a minor foul at the collegiate level to play defense with your stick horizontal. The fact that your daughter has needed to change her defensive technique due to the new rules shows you must have been one of those all knowing lacrosse dads. The only correct thing you said was you have no facts to back anything up. Not worried about your daughter getting a free position shot as I am sure your expertise have resulted in many an easy save by countless goalies. Sorry your poor defenseless daughter has been cross checked , which has always been illegal, by those poorly coached defenders.

Whatever dude. This discussion is going no where. My daughters have been taught by my wife and her friends who were All-Americans in college. Positive role models who understand how the game is to be played and taught. You will probably call them morons as well but I would expect nothing less at this point.

Every other sport seems to be able to be accepting and inclusive. Only travel lacrosse parents drive that wedge between players of different abilities telling everyone else that if they can't keep up to find another sport. My daughters school basketball team with some aau players, no issue. Softball with some travel kids, no issue. Premier soccer players, no issue. Good sportsmanship all around. Only travel lacrosse parents try to justify bad behavior, selfish play and running up scores

Oh stop... You all sound ridiculous. If your kid isn't good too bad. The kids that excel and are top p,ayers have worked hard and trained for years..jealousy shows its ugly face.

If you have to complain about girls scoring too many points, or being too rough, your daughter should not play. Find a non-contact sport like swimming and try not to complain if your daughter gets splashed!

USL clearly states that girls lacrosse is a non contact sport.

Then your lucky with the teams you have found in other sports because I have found the same exact thing in basketball and soccer. We have been on both sides of the argument and I have no problem at all with kids dominating one sport or another, good for them.

I think is it's not so much the lacrosse parents but the division breakouts. In soccer and basketball there are leagues with 8 or so teams in each, and these generally more closely aligned in ability so the chances of a blowout are lessened. I'd much rather see lacrosse ditch the 2 division grouping with its wildly disparate teams and have league play. I've been told that lacrosse groups and schedules as it does because there are fewer teams than the other sports but IDK, that seems less and less valid as the lacrosse community grows.

Now I get it,when your superstar wife and her "all American friends" have been involved in coaching a kid defense its easy for that kid but for all the other kids out there its not so easy. All that was said is playing defense in girls lacrosse is not easy , the rules and the way officials call the game make playing defense difficult at best. Most who have watched the game realize this much the way playing defense in the NFL has become more difficult. The officials need to start calling more charges etc., and this comes from a parent who has an attack player as a daughter.

In our town kids are quiting PAL in droves. We had a strong program and now are struggling at almost every grade. Only travel is growing by leaps and bounds and new travel clubs are popping up weekly. Lots of money to be made. If you arent willing to play all summer and write big checks you are being left behind. Still need 20 girls or so for teams coaches need to remember that.

What an arrogant toolbag.

Hey idiot, soccer is the biggest problem between sports. Why is spring soccer mandatory for 8, 9 and 10 yr olds.

What Parents seem to forget is that PAL helps develop the girls and establish a sense of Community. When these girls who play Travel Only reach High school the team will suffer.
I know I will here about it but PAL is about learning the game and having FUN. They are children they are suppose to enjoy themselves. Travel is more demanding and requires dedication a child can do both. Parents just have to separate the expectations depending on where the child is playing and their abilities. Everyone develops at a different pace.

The problem with all the travel programs is not all girls are up to travel. As these new programs will find out in a hurry when they play any real tournament. Only 3 or 4 programs from the island can handle themselves at these legit tournaments and that is only the top team or two from the age group. The 5th and 6th team from these clubs don't belong at the tournaments either.Lets face it, all the good varsity programs are driven by club produced talent, period.

THere are more than a handful of Nassau JV teams that have folded or can barely field because of low player numbers. You have the hyper motivated and then the rest who have left the game after not having a great experience. I get the fact that GC probably has 75% of their squad playing club but what about the schools where its only a handful? A storm is brewing

The HS Girls programs are direct reflections of their Youth PAL programs. The towns that balance their teams and include all levels of players from K-8th grade are the Towns putting quality Varsity and JV teams on the field year in and out. They may lose at the PAL level but when it all comes together at he HS level the winning happens. In my town many of the girls play on travel programs and the town travel teams up till 9th & 10th grade. If the Town youth directors would put more effort into keeping the girls playing together and developing the Town Program which includes having balanced PAL teams the HS program would benefit. The problem is that many PAL coaches are only interested in getting their daughters on Varsity and winning meaningless PAL games.

Everything is the problem my kid is playing basketball, lacrosse and soccer this spring. There aren't enough days in the week but at a young age how do you choose one over the other? And everthing is starting by kindergarten or 1st grade trying to lock the kids up
