Why would anyone want to play on a 6th team in an age group? At that point what type of coaching and attention are you getting from the program? DO they just take everyone regrdless of skill level? I saw approximately 165 girls at the 2020 tryout. If the YJ can get good coaches and good players for 6 teams, why not expand? On the other hand, it may be diluting the brand name.

Say what you will about the YJ and Coach Rose, but, in my opinion, having that many LI female lax players trying out for the program shows that they/she are doing something right.

You have to see how the lower teams recruit. If the bottom team kids end up playing at LIU Brooklyn and Old Westbury, your money would have been better spent on tutors

Now, having just gone through the tryout season with more than 40 club and town teams here on BOTC, the number one issue that was raised across the board was that parents want to know their coaches prior to purchasing a program. Yet in this discussion, the conversation turns to "if we can get good coaches"? Is something really being done right in this situation?

When the summer season comes about and that fifth and sixth level team's parents are complaining about the attention and training afforded to their daughters while they are sporting their new Yellow Jackets gear, BOTC is going to turn a deaf ear to the discussion.

Who cares how many teams there are? As long as the girls are playing they are young and learning the game. Obviously they could have tried out for different clubs and chose not to. Let it go. Have fun and play lax girls!

YJ have most of their 2014 coaches listed online already. If additional teams are made then those coaches must be found. The one thing that is hard to argue is the fact that yj coaches have the best credentials. You can see almost 4 teams per grade being coached by varsity level, or higher coaches. Now this does not always equate to quality but the chances of getting someone committed and knowledgeable is far better than having a college kid home on summer vacation.

I totally understand it on the YJ end, of course, the more the merrier. The question is, what are the players getting on the 6th team? Who is coaching you? what kind of attention are you getting at that point? Do they even remember to register you for a tournament? How is the communication between the club and the 6th 2019 team? I just wonder what the attraction is at that point.

Is there any truth to the rumor that the friends and family team is being split up???

Get over what? I am a "Legacy" parent as you have termed it. Just saying that you have to be kidding yourself if you truly do not believe that politics and butt kissing are not in full swing on the top teams. It is actually funny to see the parents work harder than the girls on the lacrosse field!

Touching on a couple of YJ topics that were brought up the last couple of days:
1. Anyone that thinks that politics does not/ will not play a part in the decision making process when mking these teams is a bit naive. It happens in all levels of society. Get used to it. Town connections are just a part of it. How about the favoritism of girls that have older siblings on top teams in the program? Does CR want to upset the apple cart? How about a coach that individually trains nearly half her summer players on the side? If one of those girls are not up to snuff, do you cut her and risk putting tax-free $$ in your pocket? Probably not.
2. As for 6 teams in an age group, who should care except those on those teams. There seems to be a huge market for girls' lax on Long Island and it doesn't seem to be slowing down. Seems new clubs are sprouting up all over the place.

I don't buy it, give us the names of the towns with the connections so when rosters are made we can see if you are correct. Also the sibling thing is complete bs, there are many siblings on different level teams , may actually be more siblings on different level teams than same level teams.That being said I would expect that young kids with siblings who are top level players have a better chance at being top level players themselves , genetics, starting earlier , access to a good role model etc. The politics excuse is used way to often by parents of kids who think little Susie is better than she is.

For the first question , for sure Mt. Sinai, as for the second , usually the detractors are the ones that have there little Susie benefit from politics and butt kissing

I did not read any of this as someone making an excuse. Just stating what appears to be a fact.

1 thing that was mentioned that does need further discussion, are players receiving training on the side from coaches on their respective team. Complete Conflict of Interest.

There is your problem , you have no idea what a fact is , what they are stating is just their own biased opinion. Take a look at the new rosters when they come out and his fact will be completely proven wrong then he will state some other town is favored and you will believe that to be a fact. While I agree with your conflict of interest statement it happens at almost every club.

I know exactly what a fact is. And I did qualify the statement by saying "what appears to be;" and honestly, it does appear to be that way.

With all the townies, siblings, butt kissers, relatives and political appointees that apparently clog these rosters, it's amazing how many games they manage to win.

They have the formula figured out, each team cam support about 6 of the politically connected types. Unfortunately 95percent of teams at tournaments are not competitive (against real blue) so these players sub in and out of games unnoticed, then they sit the bench on the tight games.

Yoe people are crazy . Came on site to see about a tournament and I say to myself lets see what everyone is always talking about. Do any of you have jobs ?

Granted -the Blue teams are very good. However, the older the teams get, the better the other clubs get. YJ Blue is a great team, but after that the 2nd and 3rd teams are just OK. The teams after that are mediocre. YJ was first - they have the biggest name and have been able to draw from the biggest pool of talent. However, other teams are catching them and have caught them.

Which team would that be?

Parents bring their kids to yellow jackets bc they know they won't get cut. Some are ok with their daughter playing on the 4/5/6 team because little Susie just wants to play lacrosse. At the end of the day little Susie is a we adjusted young lady who loved lacrosse and used it to stay socially active, develop her skills and make new friends. In my years of experience I prefer the personalities of the parents and girls of those 2/3/4/5 teams over that top blue team less drama more fun oh and guess what while your top blue player spent every spare minute training for lacrosse my little Susie got a full academic scholarship to a D3 school and will play lacrosse what's that top player getting 10%!!! Enjoy that bill and thank you CR for leaving no girl left out!!!

Playing for YJ once meant something and carried weight. Now half the lax kids on the Island play for YJ. Playing YJ sixth team isn't exactly the same thing as playing on the A team. You hear that this or that kid plays for YJ and it really doesn't hold the same meaning it used to not too long ago. TG is becoming the same thing. Both clubs put together some of the top teams, but they also put together more teams that are non competitive in the end.

Please let me know what the "Honest Club" is. The one that has no politics, no butt kissers, no older siblings that play, and no parents on a message board. I want to join that club.

I'm sure it happens with all the teams. I don't think it's as rampant as many are making it out to be, but it definitely happens. If you say it doesn't, you are fooling yourself. But in reality, what does it matter. Why come on here and continually cry about this? Favoritism happens everywhere in every way of life. Crying about it anonymously on a post does not solve anything. How about talking to the director or the coach about how you feel your daughter should be placed? You may not get the answer you want, but you will get an answer. Then you can make an informed decision about whether this program is presently right for your daughter and whether it will be right for her in the future.

The 100% academic scholarship statement, while wonderful for the young girl, is out of context with the thread. She would have received it lacrosse or no lacrosse.
