LUHI actually charges a Re-class fee. They have been reclassing kids forever. They play a terrible schedule, but allow 8'th graders to play varsity and score at will to make the parents who reclassed their kids feel better.

First Manhasset lost their mascot and now they’ve lost all credibility. Reclasset High School.

Those kids reclassed because they will be going to the private schools not to Manhasset. Otherwise, they would not because it would be foolish.
That doesnt make sense. You would do your sophomore year in your HS and then go to private for your next sophomore year. The only real reason to do a year at a LUHI is because you are going back to public. Otherwise as I said, you go to public up through whatever grade you are going to reclass in to THEN move to private to redo the same year. Going from 8th grade in Manhasset to go to 8th grade in Luhi to then go to 9th grade at St Anthonys is absurd. 8th and 9th at Manhasset and then 9th again at St Anthony is what you would do.
LUHI a basketball school that has made a business of this.

They are going to Manhasset. This should lax off every kid at LuHi that loses playing time to these guys and every player at Manhasset that loses time to a reclass.

30% of these kids will go back to Manhasset. 70% are liers,(and thats on the parents) and of those 70%, 10% will actually make it at Chaminade/St Anthonys, but 100% of the kids who go back will have a great experience.

They are gaming the system. I do not agree with it but I worry about my kids. Its a way to get an advantage and those who have the resources sometimes utilize them to put their kid in a spot that they may have a better chance of succeeding and getting to the next level. It is like redshirting or going the prep route for a year. In some cases, a year will make a huge difference physically. The cases where it is really a big advantage is where the kid is already on the older side of that grade level. Then they reclass and almost have a two-year advantage on some kids.

exactly, well said. I am not a fan of it at all, but then again, I don't have the resources to send my kid to a prep school for a year. I also am not banking on a D1 college scholarship,
That said, alot of ppl keep posting about S2S having tons or reclasses. We've been on this team for more than 3 years, and I'm not aware of a single kid on this roster that is over-age (maybe I'm not aware). I will say that they added a couple of kids who are physically bigger than most at this age (pole and FOGO), but my understanding is that they are all on age.

or not at all, this is not a new phenomenon. Just new parents realizing kids need to be exceptional and stand out to get noticed. Not just average players at average schools or on average club teams.

just saw points leaders on Newsday...ton of kids from LUHI....I'm sorry but this is pathetic. Kids that never saw time on Express are popping in goals like they're Casey Powell? Playing down a level must make these parents feel GREAT about themselves. In the end, you can't fool the man in the mirror-but these parents are lying to themselves. What a joke.

A student-athlete is eligible for varsity competition in grades 9 - 12 until their 19th birthday. A student-athlete, who turns 19 on or after July 1 may participate in PSAL athletics during the next school year, if they did not exhaust their 4 consecutive years of eligibility detailed in rule 9.1. 9.3.Mar 12, 2025

Luhi plays in the private school athletic association. It's a joke, For lacrosse it literally has 3 teams in it. One of them is the Stony Brook school which hasn't won a game in probably 10 years. The rest of their schedule is filled with @ChillLaxin as well. It's pretty easy to run up the score and pad your stats against horrible teams. That's why their players are leading in stats in Newsday. The reason why the roster has so many 8Th graders is because they all use the school to reclass before they head to St. Anthony or Chaminade. It's gotten so bad there that they charge you more money if you only stay for 8th grade.

Some observations/takeaways:

Close to a 1/3rd of the LuHi roster is 8th grade reclasses. LuHi coach is the S2S Director so expect more S2S players to reclass in the future. Expect more Manhasset kids to reclass in the future after witnessing this group of kids do it.

Manhasset people must be the smartest in Long Island. Reclassing. Who would have ever thought of this great idea. It’s never been done before. GC has been doing this for years. Give it a rest.

Why are you people so obsessed with LUHI reclasses? Truth be told I’m about as anti-reclass as you could be. But the reclasses on Long Island are way different than the reclasses around the country. And if you care about what happens in September of 2026 you are focusing your anger and bitterness in the wrong corner of the country. You should be more concerned with the new 9th graders than the new 8th graders. These local ones have left the chat and should be talked about in the 2029 discussion board. Nobody cares about newsday points leaders. You people are so clueless it boggles my mind.

Regardless of the fact, if these kids are reclasses or not that only gives them the edge allegedly in summer ball. They are still 8/9 graders playing against D1-D3 committed players on a varsity level and succeeding. Make it make sense people just love to be negative.

College coaches aren't reading Newsday. You are manic level obsessed.

Signed, Holdback Daddy

That’s some funny stuff, writing “signed,’ then coming up with a real zinger. You wrote that by yourself? Hows the JV team doing?

How’s 8th grade the second time around?

LMAO!!

Regardless of the fact, if these kids are reclasses or not that only gives them the edge allegedly in summer ball. They are still 8/9 graders playing against D1-D3 committed players on a varsity level and succeeding. Make it make sense people just love to be negative.

The quality of teams they play are terrible.

Doesn’t matter how bad the teams are they are getting an invaluable experience playing against stronger faster older. The usual 2 dads on here hating against the reclass is nothing but jealously. One of these dads has a child the same age, 2010 BD, and guess what, held his son back! Stings when your kid isn’t good enough. - signed S2S holdback dad

Yet another person, or perhaps the same one, posting here about luhi over and over doesn’t get it. The luhi reclasses are now the problems of the 29’s. There are much bigger (stronger, better, faster) fish to fry coming to claim your son’s spot in about a year and a half. You’re in for a rude awakening.

My son wants to play in the ACC only, so thinking about recessing my kid to LuHi, who do I call to get started? Thanks for the advice.
