If a blue blood program like GC, Set, Ward Melville, BBP, the parent will be ridiculed (have heard WM may have a strict policy against this). Anywhere else like Bethpage or Kings Park… ok maybe… nonetheless, your playing against grown adults Juniors and Seniors

Ward Melville has an 8th grader on varsity this year

MS lacrosse is terrible, for the most part. Let 7th graders enjoy a year of fun/stress-free lax! Of course club directors/coaches want their 29s playing Varsity. If the girl is big/strong/fast enough to hang, even if only getting a few minutes in games...playing Varsity practices is a great opportunity. It gives them a year to get used to the speed of the Varsity game before they are 9th graders. NYS also increased the physical test requirements for MS players..weeding out some of the 8th graders who don't belong. If they can play Varsity...they should. The progress/maturation that those 8th graders playing Varsity will be noticeable come club tourney season this spring/summer. Unfortunately, flag football has made is necessary for many JV/Varsity teams to rely on club 8th graders to fill their rosters.

Question. Is there a test for a 7th or 8th grader to play on JV? Or one just needs to pass the NYS test of only playing varsity

I believe it's the same APP test.

Our JV has a lot of 7/8 graders on it. Our varsity does too. They all took the same test, I think.

High School sports are a significant portion of the school budget.

We now have two extremes when it comes to high school teams:
1. High School teams plagued with "friends" of coaches or BOE members, who are clearly weaker, playing instead of the better players.
2. Travel trainers playing program members over others, this is happening in many sports where the "trainer" is also a high school coach.

I am a trainer and I don't have kids involved in lax. My kids are involved in music and theatre (my wife won). I train/coach because I come from an athletic family that has always been involved in sports. When I go watch games to see my players in order to design training sessions for them, as a professional, it is so blatantly obvious to witness these two extremes. These "coaches" are so blinded that they don't realize how bad it looks.

My advice to every parent who has to deal with one of these two situations is to vote no for your school budget. Let the athletic director and BOE know that there is no room for this type of favoritism in multimillion dollar school budgets. Let the best players play, cut the political nonsense, or stop wasting our tax dollars.
