And lastly.. those late bloomers that do eventually make it albeit late are not concerned about what is said on this board. They are busy grinding getting better because they love lacrosse and they are tuning this nonsense out.

1 guy? This ia so inspirational , maybe your JV standout could follow in Spencer’s footsteps. Be warned, however, JV at Boys Latin is worlds away from a JV program in bumf*ck Scruffolk County. Good luck.

Only in rare cases, like Pat Spencer and a handful of others, do players get stuck on JV, and that’s only because they were on a top 10 nationally ranked lacrosse team. Even Spencer would’ve been on Varsity anywhere else if he hadn’t been behind Stanwick and Heacock—two future Division 1 All-Americans.

Sorry, parents—I know this isn’t what you want to hear, but outside of those elite programs, if your kid isn’t on Varsity by 9th grade, you can kiss those D1 dreams goodbye. As they say, forget about it.

Keep dreaming if you want, but facts are facts.

Good to see you using your brain and realizing it aint happening for him.

Have you read anything about Spencer or know anyone in Baltimore , in the know, then you wouldnt say such silly things. Know it is hard to take, but holdbacks have an advantage as do freshman Varsity players.

Sorry I don’t do internet research on grown men who played lacrosse. Clearly you do. How many bottles of baby oil did you borrow from Diddy during your research?

Seems like you clearly do internet research on what Puffy and other grown men are doing. You mock people to make yourself feel better, but everyone else is just laughing at how petty you are.

You missed some key words. I said 1 poster child of MANY. I also said BIG TIME HS programs. If you are at a public or generally weaker program… yes you should probably be on varsity as a frosh. But a top 30 national HS is indeed very different.

Yes parents, just do what Holdback Dad did and have your average playing son repeat a grade and magically he will be a D1 recruit. Was it hard work? Hours in the gym? No, just repeat a grade and then look down on all the kids your own age that don’t go D1. FYI speak to someone that has played or is currently playing D1 and ask them their daily schedule, not sure it’s worth it!

Good to see you using your brain and realizing it aint happening for him.
Pat Spencer did not get stuck on JV or cut from Varsity. Coaches knew the talent and made a conscious choice to play him on JV as a sophomore. He had Heacock, Stanwick, and Colin Chell as Seniors in front of him. What was the coach going to do, say thanks guys for 4 years but this sophomore is going to be the difference. Absolutely not. Spencer played and played and played a lot on JV. Ever consider that the year of all the reps and all the ball going through him helped? Take the reps was our philosophy.

How do you know what the Boys Latin coach was thinking?

Have you read anything about Spencer or know anyone in Baltimore , in the know, then you wouldnt say such silly things. Know it is hard to take, but holdbacks have an advantage as do freshman Varsity players.

Looks like someone is jealous of another person having a son play D1. Sorry, you can make silly remarks but the reality is that D1 is not for people like you. Nothing wrong with that, it just isnt.

Modern D1 lacrosse is for the older players . Hardly any on age freshman or sophs see the field. With transfers and covid(wrapping up now) . It has been hard for the poster above and others like him. They just dont want to accept the reality of putting all that time and labor into lacrosse and coming up short. While the rest of us put out chest out singing away !

Classy. Maybe spend some time learning how to use the quote button.

Anyone know if the Empire games are worth it? Meaning there will be independent selectors, not just the usual 91 and Express pre-filled rosters.

Travel does nothing but take your money and let the Daddy coaches play their kids and brag on social media. Let your kids play High School, that's where they are getting recruited. Travel Directors do not care about you, your kids or your families.

I believe he has reclassified along with some others from that team. I know this bothers many people, but people should just be concerned with their own family. This has been happening in lacrosse for a while. We are starting to see it in other sports but not as often. It was a lacrosse thing bc Lax was one of the only sports that was based on a graduation year and not an age. Having an extra year to grow and get stronger and faster is a big advantage. It is exactly why may schools redshirt kids or why many go to a prep school for a year. In lax it is not about the money or becoming a pro, it is about getting into a top tier school like an Ivy, Duke or Notre Dame. The top 25 NCAA mens lax rankings are filled with the best colleges and universities in the world. So reclassifying your kid may be one way of getting your child into a top tier school. The other way would be to work hard in the classroom and on the field and get in without gaming the system.

Completely false. High school does very little for recruiting.

Don’t do it. It’s absolutely awful. Just another money grab by Long Island Lacrosse Journal.

Nearly every single kid that gets recruited is because of travel. You need to find the right fit. Sitting on the bench isn't gonna get your kid recruited.

100% correct. Son got into the car and was like, "no thanks". Glad we only paid for the "tryout" and nothing more. Barely enough kids to field a team. Lesson learned moving forward. Tried to get out tryout but no refunds, of course.

Anyone start outdoor practices yet? weather stinks, assuming mid-march for most teams?

These showcases are mostly to line the pockets of directors/coaches. Even the ones that kids get “invited” coaches/directors nominate then parents/kids feel obligated to attend so parent foots the bill. There can be exposure but for the most part all are predetermined money grabs. You can always spot connections of the kids that get picked.

S2S improved this year? Hope so, can only be a good thing for LI lax.

Always seems like a battle for 3rd place behind express and 91.

Def not a Rebel parent. This 2028team does not even have any of the same kids. They have all moved on to different clubs.

Legacy/Rush are in the conversation for best team at this age group heading into the spring. Our attack is dynamite, our middies are big and fast and our poles are the best group on LI.

attack is eh, frequently injured. your middies are over-rated and the coaches still play daddy ball. Poles are definitely not the best group on LI, but hey...wishful thinking, right? Then again, when you combine 14 teams into 1, i guess you should be pretty good, huh? Another delusional imbecile. Best kid on that team is Jack Gardner, and I can't believe he's still there. Should've left a couple of years ago.

Stop being a troll. You’re not a leg/rush parent and everyone knows it.

i think they did lose to igloo in the Fall...but hey, their poles are the best on LI. Not express, not 91, not S2S, but Legacy/Rush Red/White/Blue/Green/Orange or whatever color they are is the best. They'll never have the best D with that jaloop D coach that they have.

You go to LUHI to repeat a grade because your Dad thinks you will become taller/faster/bigger than you are actually going to be. You are just peaking early.

LOL, all those boys are simply using LuHi as a placeholder to repeat a year and reclass back at their publics. None of them will graduate from LuHi.
