They aren't moving anyone down from elite unless a team specifically requests to move down. So 91 won't be moving anywhere. They play in elite, whether they win or not. They are the only team stubborn enough to do this.
Otherwise, teams regularly drop down. Usually if they got their doors blown off thenprwvious year or if there is a big shakeup in a program or a mass exodus.
If that happens they will likely reach out to the AAA champion and regular season finalists to see if there is interest in moving up. But you usually have to back it up with a strong fall to show you belong. MM knows what he is doing. Top Coach in Baltimore. His teams play elite for a reason, they are elite and compete Outside of the two teams that his kids were on and where he recruited an all star cast to support them, Team 91 Maryland is anything but elite. Here is how the 3 middle school teams ended their rankings last year: 2028- 50 2029- 65 2030- 64 The 29 team specifically is like 2-19 in the last 3 years in Elite division of HOCO. The purpose of the 91 ES and MS teams is not to develop players or win games, it's to help fund the HS teams. Aside from the objectively amazing 2023-2025 teams personally engineered and coached by MM and Austin, 91 is not the best club in Baltimore County Let alone Maryland Let alone the DC-Baltimore-Annapolis region Let alone the Mid-Atlantic Let alone anywhere else Despite all of Mark's protests to the contrary.

while i appreciate the productive conversations about actual lacrosse and AAA vs elite. NONE of the AAA teams want their 8th grade hoco year to end the way it will in elite. 0-8 with some real beat down 10+ goal losses. being able to say your kid plays elite isn’t worth that. Tryouts for a top team was the time to accomplish that. Nailed it. If you want to see where you kids club measures up against top competition, go ahead and enter Naptown, NLF or NAL this summer. Make sure to bring your 15 yr olds. NAL and NLF are age verified. That's why crabs (an NLF member) won't play in any nlf events this summer.

Unlike many of the other notable programs (Hawks, Crabs, Madlax, FCA), Team 91 Md was originally a middle school program. Team 91 Md is only now starting to recruit at the youngest ages. As you can see, Team 91 Md began with 7th graders, only moving to 5th graders in 2021, and 4th graders in 2022. All teams were in the Elite division with the exception of introducing 5th graders in 2021. This 2025 HoCo season will see Team 91 Md's first complete team of 3rd grade recruits.
In 2022, when the 2029 Team were 5th graders, was the first year that Team 91 Md. recruited a complete 5th grade team to play in the Hoco elite level.
Here are the Team 91 Md. teams as they established themselves in the HoCo league:
2026 - 7th grade yr (2021)
2027 - 7th grade yr (2022)
2028 - 5th grade yr (2021) - began as a AAA team, next yr AAAA team, and then Elite 2029 - 5th grade yr (2022)
2030 - 4th grade yr (2022)
2031 - 4th grade yr (2023)
2032 - 4th grade yr (2024) - team put together mostly from Wolfpack in Harford County
2033 - 3rd grade yr (2024) - 2033/34 team, more than half made up of 2034s (2nd graders)
2034 - 3rd grade yr (2025) - first time Team 91 fully recruited a complete younger team

Silly question being that they middle schools that have teams are usually for kids that want to try the sport mixed in with really good players. Also many middle school teams play in different level leagues. With that being said. St. Pauls has a team composed of players thats play together all year and are all strong players.

It's not a terrible question given that the 8th grade teams will become the foundation for the future MIAA rosters. That said, most schools will add a bunch of talent going into 9th grade so things will change markedly in the next 12 months. All middle school teams have a mix of experienced players and kids trying the sport for the first time. That said, schools like Boys Latin have recruited lacrosse players heavily and have extremely talented rosters at each grade. Schools like Loyola Blakefield have more club/rec lacrosse players than spots on the middle school roster. St Pauls has a mix of experienced and first time players. Their experienced players come from several different clubs (like every other school) so they don't "play together all year".

Last year division alignment went out to coaches around the middle of February. I’d guess it would be on the same/similar timeline this year.

New Question... which MIAA school has the best 2029 class?... in other words... which 8th grade team is going to clean up this spring? No one follows this right now in that so many kids switch schools, stop playing... Look to the coaching. Lots can change over the next few weeks, but word on the street.......... 1. Boys Latin (Top guys from True Chesapeake, FCA, and a couple Hawks....along with 4-5 out of state players. Still looking for a goalie) 2. Spalding (Hawks and more Hawks! True Chesapeake upper players as well) 3. Calvert Hall (Top 91 player, top two FCA players and I'm sure others from FCA, a few Hawks) 4. McDonogh (The streak comes to an end without Millon feeding the pipeline. Looking for out of state guys and trying to collect some Ascension players (not working) 5. Loyola Blakefield (no studs, Shuckers died, no one likes Ford, mostly roll players from Predators, FCA, 91) 6. St. Pauls (no studs, mostly roll players from Predators, FCA, 91)

St Paul’s has about about 1/3 of crabs players already in 8th grade. Many of them can be difference makers depending on how this season is goes.

It’s unlikely that DCE is trying to play elite in 2029 age group. Much of that team is made up of the BLC team that was not playing elite the last several years. DCE did not have enough kids come out to form a B team as they have in other age groups. They did not play in top fall tournaments and I think are realistic about which division the team should play in for spring.

And if we are being honest that core group of BLC kids did not do well in AAA last year (2-5) True Nova and Preds play in game should happen, True Nova earned that chance with how they dominated AAA last year. If Preds are better they will win…end of story

the most uninformed post i’ve seen on BOTC and that is saying something I love that this isn't even tied to a specific prior post but I somehow still sort of agree with it.
