So what happened to Bullis and Georgetown Prep this weekend? Are Malvern and Haverford that good or are Bullis/Georgetown down this year?

All 4 of those teams mentioned are excellent. Which team is "That good" or "Down", we will find out as the season progresses.

Haverford was good but Prep was missing their top scorer and top defenseman due to illness.

When are the public schools going to drop the federation rules and play real lacrosse with a shot clock

Prob can’t afford shot clocks. They’re really doing a disservice to the players who are going to need to play faster in college. Not giving them the head start with the shot clock in high school is a disadvantage IMO

Publics have shot clocks, it is the football play clock!!! It is NOT a cost issue.

St Mary’s may need to win it this year. 20 plus seniors and no younger talent behind them. Younger talent and the Hawks pipelines are heading to Spalding now. How does this happen?

Tip of the hat for picking up that story. If it's the same story I heard, he wasn't drunk, or coaching, but had a beer can out in the open at a sports event, which is definitely, explicitly not allowed (and as dads we're reminded of such), but also not a disaster.

There are reasons why you can be the #4 goalie at Gilman, never touch the field at varsity, and play D1, while the same kid would be the #1 goalie at Westminster goes D3.

One of those reasons is readiness to play the college game.

And if you're unlucky enough to go play in west coast tournaments, you'll see that the vast majority of programs out there never play with shot clocks.

STM got a good amount of the 2027 Hawks and quite a few 2026 Hawks. They also got some ProStart, PLC and NL kids

The #4 string goalie goes D1? Really! Any facts or just delusional.....

What happened to Spalding? Why do so many kids leave that school? It's not like they are a dominate lacrosse school, plenty of room and talent needed desperately. Seems more political and kids not deserving of their spot pushes people away.

Maryland's starting goalie is a Freshman from Catonsville

He was the third option after 2 other hurt. Red shirting before the injuries

Except that this isn't his first incident with alcohol in public. I seriously hope this dude gets the help he obviously needs.

That dude was absolutely incredible this weekend BTW. Also maybe unrelated but note that Maryland always seems to have smaller, quicker goalies versus the 6 foot-plus guys at other schools. If you're the dad of a small goalie (like me) there's hope.

Guess you got the same story he gave his club to keep his job after coaching 5th graders with the same blood alcohol level. Not that they wouldn’t excuse him anything, but you’re misinformed.

STM got 27 and 26 NL kids? That's a typo. Not a single 27 NL player is going STM next year.

Simply put, they are well funded by the Kelly family, and can offer massive scholarships and tuition reduction for athletes. St Marys cannot do that or compete with their financials.

Not the ones that matter. Spalding is heavily courting the 2028 hawks/7th graders I am hearing. Heavy recruiting the top third of that team. St Marys will not be good after this year for years to come. Correct in saying they need to win it NOW

You don’t know what you’re talking about and there are families that will never choose Spalding.

Did you just cut and paste this from 2019 or 2015 or 2010 or from some other of the many previous cycles when the New Cut crew has flogged this wishful thinking. In their version Spaldy always on the come-up (“They’re going to be really good next year”) and SM is always on the verge of collapse. It is beyond hilarious.

Exactly, who would ever turn down an opportunity to attend the 2nd nicest school on New Cut Road?

Honest question - What are the major differences between Spalding and St. Mary's? Academically, athletics, culturally? They seem to come in about equal in online Maryland private school rankings. Is it just the "charming" downtown Annapolis local? I know kids that live closer to StM that Spalding.

Maryland's #2 goalie was grad transfer Teddy Dolan, who started vs, Syracuse and had a sub-50 save percentage. He was benched in favor of Ruppel, not injured. Perhaps if McEnnaney nevery got hurt or Dolan kept the starting spot, the plan was for Ruppel to redshirt.

Wes Schmidt also is injured with broken wrist.

He keeps playing the way he is, McNaney will be the backup when he comes back.

Ha. Doubt it. People are forgetting who was the goalie last year already? Ruppel may need to consider a move if he wants to play next year.

Ruppel style of goalie play is not championship caliber. Too many rebounds! Look at the last two goalies that won championships for Maryland totally opposite from Ruppel. McNaney and Morris are more composed and patient in the goal. They are actually tracking the ball.

LOL He’s a freshman who has played not even 5 games. Give him a hot second to get comfortable in his new role before you start with your expert opinions.

Tillman will take 3/4 more years over 1 more year of McEnnaney - similar to the logjam at Alabama with Hurts and Tua.
