Hey Karma. Every club director got the email!

I assume they made this change because people were complaining that the North/South divisions were not fair and the VA teams were complaining about traveling so far for games. Although the North/South divisions weren't always equal across age groups at least they were somewhat consistent. Hopefully if they agreed to get rid of them then some thought will go into the scheduling at each grade level to make sure things are somewhat even. With 16 teams registered for "A" and only 8 games, then you avoid 7 teams. Imagine the complaining/unfairness if one of the top teams has to play the other 4 while one of the other top teams avoids them all. Or if one of the borderline A/B teams somehow avoids the top teams and ends up in the playoffs?

So you’re nervous your top team won’t make the playoffs because you’re losing to the top teams in your bracket? Why would your team deserve to make the playoffs then? Is it because it was easier in the past, because there was half the amount of teams in the A bracket?

Historically, at this age, doesn’t the NGLL ramp up in size? This isn’t something new, correct? Looking at the 2027 A and the older teams in the past with NGLL, 16 teams seems average at this age.

Who is saying a team won't make the playoffs if they switch from the division format to 1 giant pool of good and bad teams? Let's say M&D has a schedule where they play 8 games, all against the "Top 8" teams. That's a Schedule of Coppermine, Crush, Hero's, MDU, Pride, Skwalkers, maybe CCLax or Hero's White. Let's give M&D a 6-2 record. Now let's take a lower level team who gets to play the bottom 8 teams and goes 7-1. They finish ahead of M&D in the standings with a higher seed and based on how other teams do, possibly miss the playoffs while a weaker team plays a weaker schedule and gets into the playoffs. It's hard to believe the people arguing here over the A bracket and playoff teams can't see this. As pointed out, this happened last year with the 27 bracket due to 1 division being much weaker than the other. Now you have 16 teams and only 8 games. 1 top team could play the 8 toughest teams out there while another top team or lower team plays 1 or 2 tough teams, has a better record and gets into the playoffs. Who is saying its easier to make the playoffs? The top 4 playoff teams for 28 A last year were the 4 teams that deserved it and proved to be the best 4.

To the comment on Top teams rosters and playing or not playing. The bottom of the Top 5 teams rosters is better than 95% of the lower level teams top players, so before anyone gets on their horse about how players aren't making an impact, only 11 players can start, and you need to have subs.

I'm not sure this is true. There are some very good players on teams outside the Top 5. A team of the best girls from outside the Top 5 would be pretty legit. Even the best players from the lower teams in the DC area would be pretty good, and that is exactly what happens at the high school level when the girls from lower teams combine to play for Capital.

Thanks DC Dad for that hard core analysis. No one cares about Capital here.[/quote]

You will figure it out eventually.

Honestly, no one cares about NGLL after 8th grade. Boast all you want about those meaningless championships in middle school. Look at the impact players in college. Many of them don’t come from the Mid Atlantic region. A lot come from teams that don’t have the MS exposure. Stop chasing rankings and start chasing true development. Find a team that has a philosophy of development, not winning, and you will be ok.

It's called COMPETITION. Of course no one cares about NGLL after 8th grade. After 8th grade it's about HS ball. Let the kids play, have fun, and see the results of their play through competitive games in the spring. Good prep work for summer tournaments and future HS spring lax.

Spoken like someone who's daughter never had NGLL succes. In middle school it's big.

Of course it doesn't matter after 8th grade. It only goes through 8th grade.

And I assure you. Most of the impact players in high school especially in the Mid-Atlantic had some success in the NGLL.

Of course no one cares about NGLL in HS, it doesn't even exist then. That is like saying, "no one cares about HS championships once you get to college". It isn't always about the next step. NGLL is the middle school championships. And making it to those championships is an appropriate goal for middle school club teams. Just because your daughters club can't set that goal, doesn't deminish it for clubs who can. High School state championships should also be goals for teams, even though many of their players will be going on to "better" things at the next level. In the moments of middle school NGLL matters. Even if it doesn't afterwards, it is still worth competing for that championship.

Shout it louder for those in the back. The ones coming in here and diminishing NGLL or trying to justify that MS leagues or championships don't matter and it's all about "development" are also the ones on teams that aren't competitive and aren't great clubs. Competition, especially high level competition is what accelerates development. Maybe they will figure that out eventually.

Not likely. Lot of haters on here. The NGLL Mid-Atlantic end of year tournament and the National tournament are some of the best and most competitive lacrosse you will find regardless of age. Being a part of it is a fantastic experience

All depends on many factors- the girls skill level, individual PT, family location (how far they are willing/able to drive), what individuals want out of lacrosse, costs (what one can afford) and several others factors. Anyone that says it doesn’t matter is entitled to their own opinion however who wouldn’t want this incredible experience for their kid. This said… lacrosse is lacrosse at any level. Where you are now doesn’t mean this is where you’ll be promised in the future( goes both ways). I think we can all agree one of the best 28’s this year had previously played on a lower level team and just made the change to one of the top teams this summer. There are probably still a few just in this area that could also make the move and this isn’t to discount lacrosse is now much bigger than just the Maryland area now. My oldest daughter plays in college now (never was the best on her team) and there were many changes from Middle School through college. Kids I thought at a young age were incredible- some play in college, some dropped or leveled off and some quit. Others blossomed in HS that in Middle School were average players. My advice… focus on your child, what she wants, what makes her happy and what you can do to help nurture the love for the game. The rest may be out of your control. Speaking from experience- and I made mistakes with my oldest not doing this.

Does soccer and field hockey season ever end! Hard to have a lacrosse team when soccer/field hockey seem to take priority!

My thoughts exactly! Frustrating for us as well when half the team cant show up due to other sports obligations. Any clubs not have an issue with this? May have to look at other options for my daughter.

So lacrosse season officially starts mid-Feb early March, goes through second or third weekend of July, begins again mid September and ends thanksgiving and you think other sports seasons are any longer ??? And that’s assuming your lax team isn’t playing any winter indoor - which most are

I don’t see the difference
Soccer and field hockey are doing the same

Winter is actually basketball season so all these laxers playing indoor should play any lax in December January or February

My thoughts exactly! Frustrating for us as well when half the team cant show up due to other sports obligations. Any clubs not have an issue with this? May have to look at other options for my daughter.

This is more of an issue in the Fall and Winter with other sports (multi sport athletes should be encouraged). The main Lacrosse season is spring and that should be the focus then. However if players are playing other sports prior to that, shouldn't be punished for that.

This has been the downfall of some pretty good teams at other grad years. It's frustrating for the girls who are committed to lacrosse first to have a team that is only full strength half the time, and so they end up going elsewhere. You can't be mad at the players if they were honest about their conflicts and if they club says they honor multiport athletes, but you can move on to a team that feels like a better fit for your commitment level. Though, for the record, pretty much ever team deals with this during the fall and winter to some degree. I think the question is, how many girls aren't showing and what happens to the girls who are fully committed when those who are only half committed DO show up?

So lacrosse season officially starts mid-Feb early March, goes through second or third weekend of July, begins again mid September and ends thanksgiving and you think other sports seasons are any longer ??? And that’s assuming your lax team isn’t playing any winter indoor - which most are

I don’t see the difference
Soccer and field hockey are doing the same

Winter is actually basketball season so all these laxers playing indoor should play any lax in December January or February

Soccer is definitely longer. It's year round with barely a break over summer (if at all!). Lacrosse at least has a few month long breaks, and on most teams, indoor is pretty optional during the winter.

Most field sports have become year round except maybe football. Indoor field facilities popping up everywhere have allowed for this trend.

Soccer has major tournaments in late Aug, Labor Day, Columbus Day, some in Nov (Raleigh Cup), Feb (Richmond or Jefferson Cup, March (Amanda Post or Soccer Mania), Memorial Day and regular season games in both the fall and spring (prob 8 games each season).

Nothing compares to soccer in terms of time. As 7th graders, kids should have a good idea by now if they are looking to play college soccer or college lacrosse. Many will and can do both in high school. That needs to be the driver. If you want college lax, get off the A team or Premier team and instead play at a solid club or B team the next year in prep for high school soccer, while lax can be main focus.

NGLL Schedule, to me, its quite simple. Even with no divisions, you still need to divide up 16 teams into two pods with 8 games each.

Use US rankings as guide:

1 Coppermine Black
3 MDU East
4 M&D Black
5 Crush
6 HG
20 Pride Red
22 SW Blue
28 CCLax
29 FCA Blue
38 Stars Light Blue
42 HW
43 HoCo Black
47 Next Level
79 NEMS
91 3D Navy Metro Navy
163 MC Elite

Blue
Coppermine Black
Crush
HG
CCLax
FCA Blue
HoCo Black
Next Level
MC Elite

Red
MDU East
M&D Black
Pride Red
SW Blue
Stars Light Blue
HW
NEMS
3D Navy Metro Navy

Every team in Red plays every team in Red, then one crossover game, based on ranking.

So Coppermine plays MDU.
Crush plays M&D
HG plays Pride.

Best 6 records make playoffs. In case of a two way tie, head to head, then Goals Against.

This way no one team dodges anyone. Everyone has to go against a top team and everyone goes against low teams.

Pods=divisions. That is just semantics. If they aren't doing divisons, than I doubt they will do pods either. Their may not be rhyme or reason to who plays who.

In that case, we are being provided an inferior service, which is why you don't want monopolies.

No reason for them not to take the 10 min it takes to provide some sort of balance to NGLL.

Good breakdown of the teams and how the schedules would work out. Doubt this will occur though. Some teams will get easy schedules and paths to the playoffs and some others will play every top team at all all of the field locations.

Why do you skip the 2nd and 3rd best teams on your list? I like the gist of your list, however I would simply have group teams 1, 3, 5, etc. in one division and 2, 4, 6, etc. in the other. Why should Coppermine get a softer schedule?

Are you referring to the Loyola 7 v 7 Winter Warm-up Tournament? No spectators were allowed inside for that one, but I'm sure the Copp vs. Heros game was a close one. Always a good match up. I do believe Copp 28 Black won that tournament by beating Copp 27

Looks like MC Elite has dropped out of the A bracket. That won't help the argument to split into 2 divisions with the odd number of teams now.

Laxer the month before the season, and all through the Maryland region
Lacrosse parents were waiting with much anticipation
The rankings were posted on Club Lacrosse with care
Predicting their team a championship affair
The girls were prepping with winter leagues and such
In hopes their efforts would not result in losing too much
Parents were in their office with “back of the cage” on their screen
Each settled in to post LaxinItUp on other teams - trying to keep it clean
When out of nowhere there arose such a clatter
The parents emerged to see what was the matter
The schedule was posted on a cold moonlit night
The hissing, the complaining; it was a beautiful sight
The parent of one team, yet to be named
On the other side another was trying to blame
Post after post, to the conclusions they came
And the parents announced their teams and called them by name
Now Coppermine, now M&D, now MD United and Crush
On Heros, on Pride, and a few other teams and such
Each team was equipped with their own special gear
If you look good, you play good; at least that’s what we hear
But to be honest, that’s never been clear
A light rain or snow may fall when the teams begin to play
But this tough group of girls will grind it away
Up and down the field, there will be fastbreaks abound
The girls will fight tooth and nail until a winner is crowned
It will be a great exposition, a good experience for some
As the opening whistle will definitely come
And as the parents await to have the fields in their sight
Happy lacrosse season to all, and to all a good fight.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL. Look forward to some good lacrosse action in a few weeks.

Initial schedules should go out to directors by end of month. Depending on how many requests for adjustments, it should be released in early March.

However, many directors will communicate this before then.

If team registration starts in September and was supposed to close in December then mid January, how do they not have a 90% schedule already built? I understand securing field locations takes time but put together a schedule that is close and keep building on it. Why does it always take so long? And this year should be easy, no divisions to worry about.

They need to hurry up so we can coordinate with our club soccer, club field hockey, club basketball, and ballet schedules.

We need more time to build our conspiracy theories of how the schedules are fixed to favor certain team over others.

Also looking at the bracket only 4 teams make it (even though for the last few years 7th grade had 6 teams). Just doesn’t seem like the time to cut back when adding one large bracket of 15 teams and they increased the 8th grade bracket to 8 teams
