Per US Club Lax rankings for 2027:

1. (1) Hero's Green (Howard County - Woodbine)
2. (4) M&D Black (Baltimore County)
3. (9) BLC Blue (Bethesda)
4. (12) MD United (AA County)
5. (17) Sky Walkers Blue (Baltimore)
6. (33) Renegades (Frederick)
7. (35) Coppermine Black (Baltimore)
8. (40) M&D Shore (Eastern Shore)
9. (42) Integrity Green (AA County)
10. (46) Hero's White (Howard County - Woodbine)

Programs are a little different but close.

I would put:

M&D
Hero's
MDU (youth teams are highly successful)
SW (drops with lack of success at youth levels)
Coppermine (drops with lack of history and lack of High School success)

The herd appears to be thinning, which is not a good thing for the state of MD.

Hero's and M&D remain elite.
MDU and Skywalkers are trending upward.
Coppermine, Integrity, M&D Shore and NEMS appear to be dropping significantly based on Aug 2022 final standings.
I know Coppermine may not have been full strength with soccer kids in fall.

Their roster tends to have girls from Howard, Baltimore, Carroll, etc. They are probably the most widespread program which is why the use Garrison. Somewhat centrally located.

Its also a big part of their success, centrally located and can pull from all over.

Some of the 27’s parents are delusional about the talent of their own kids. All average at best individually but make up a good team overall. Heard they have lost to 28’s a few times within the past year but the Coppermine 28’s are really good even compared to 27 teams.

Most good 27s would roll great 28s, that's just the way the year advance is at middle school age.

Coppermine 27s are about as physical as any team and if the refs are calling it correctly, are going to have issues with fouls and yellow cards.

Outside of maybe the Top 5-10 27 teams, Coppermine's 28 team would not get rolled.

BLC shouldn't be considered a top 10 program/club just because their 27 team is good. There is no HS program and the rest of their teams are average. Same with M&D Shore. Hero's White is a B team and will never be a Top 10 team. Lots of other A teams/clubs to play for before playing for a Club's B team.

More like top 20-25.

The OP wasn't clear enough. Do they want to know about programs or teams at 27 year - those are different things?

OP here. Was curious about the geography of the clubs, not so much their rankings.

I don't think anyone considers BLC a top 10 club. 27s are a special group of players who have been together a long time.

BLC won the NGLL back in 4th grade, over M&D Black, who beat Hero's in Semi-finals.

Here we are five years later, and those are still the top-3 teams in area.

Def same top 3 teams. Nobody else even close in Maryland/Virginia.

M&D and Hero's going to be top 3 nationally until the 27s retire. If BLC stayed together they could stay top 10. But as good as they are, still not hanging with the 2 juggernauts

Yes, their top players will leave for greener pastures. There is NO recruiting of college players from Coppermine Soccer Club

A great answer probably won't be given but here goes.

Why would their best players leave for M&D? Who says they want to leave or should leave? Maybe let then do their thing and continue to improve. Not sure there's a reason they'd leave.

Can we move the 28 talk back to the thread that gets shut down regularly?

Nobody... at any age group is leaving M&D to go to Coppermine. Not without getting cut.

With that being said, I think Coppermine is headed in the right direction

Yes, back on topic here. Let's discuss your average player on a subpar Club that has no chance of making either top team.

Is it better to have your daughter getting more PT on a middle of the pack team (SW or Coppermine) playing against the A teams or getting little PT on a top (Hero’s or M&D) team but getting to practice with them daily? Thoughts?

The M&D vs SWB game yesterday was really fun, great kids, parents, etc. 21-18

Will be interesting to see how that translates to bigger field but still think M&D is better but gap closed a lot.

SW are definitely better than last year. Which isn't hard since they were really bad last year.

But saying you are closing the gap against a team in indoor who splits their roster isn't a real indicator. Only outdoor will tell.

But there is still a big gap.

All other things (friendships, drive time, etc...), from a purely future recruiting perspective, have your kid play on the best team they can make and then try to keep pace with the abilities of the top players. They'll find out much more quickly where the gaps in their game are between them and the top players. If they decide to fix it, they will. If they don't have the interest in that much work or if they simply don't have the ability, they can always drop to a slightly lower team later.

Don't waste your time trying to extrapolate indoor results to outdoor.

Wasn't M&D using a split squad? That's a huge difference.

"but still think M&D is better" - Thanks for that sanity check.

10/10 college coaches will tell you its always better to be the best in a middle of the pack team. Think of the logistics of recruiting process.... how does someone get recruited on the bench or rotated out after a few runs? College coaches value the rankings WAY less than the parents. They're more concerned with girls that are consistent playmakers and good tough athletes. There are girls on these top teams that are role players or at the top of their athletic ability and that doesn't translate at the next level.

I would always choose some playing time on the better team - hands down. I think about clubs in my area. On the best clubs, most, if not all, of the 2024 players are committed. On the middle of pack teams, only the top handful of girls are committed and more lower ranked teams in the mix.

Both were split squads but my point is the talent gap seemed to have closed.

I am proud of the SWB team, the new additions, consistent coaching and hard work paying off.

Also, you can tell the M&D girls were getting frustrated and expected to roll...couple real cheap shots in the back and another blow that broke a SWB player collarbone.

Congratulations on the moral victory. And I doubt the injury was a dirty play. Good try though

There's a headhunter on that team, she's got a reputation. Hopefully her coaches can change the behavior before people start giving it back. No idea if the injury was from cheap shot but seems very likely based on seeing them play at BWI league this season.

That violent check that broke the collarbone and could have decapitated her was horrible.

Hopefully M and D coaches do the right thing and suspend the play until summer at a minimum.

Was it a Red card? I saw one head shot at BWI not even get a foul.

It was a yellow. Not sure I have ever seen a straight red at the youth level for girls.
