Serious question. What puts Deemer in the category of a great coach? His coaching resume isn't spectacular and has only been coaching for a handful of years.. He was basically told to leave USC as that team got worse with him there, then better after he left. He joined an already championship caliber HS team. Not sure if last years SPSG team was better then the year prior. He convinces already strong players to come to his camp but not sure he actually develops anyone. I guess I am missing out on why he's considered a great coach.

If you have had a player coached by him you would know. He is direct but positive. He knows his players inside and out and helps them develop all their skills. His drills are great at developing skills and confidence to be turned into actual plays on the field. Unlike some other coaches who are negative and tear down their players, he is skilled at building them up.

Does the IAAM have rules prohibiting the recruitment of girls who are enrolled at conference-affiliated middle schools?

I would guess not much can be enforced. They have not committed to a high school or played a game in conference yet. Once a parents submits an inquiry to a school the coach can then talk to a family.

On the boys side coaches can’t speak to kids who are enrolled at conference middle schools.

So for example, on the girls side, the coach for SPSG can’t talk to NDP MS girls.

Unless they have submitted an inquiry. If not, it’s a fineable and suspendable violation…

This isnt true at all - my daughter went to a conference middle school and 3 separate coaches from conference high schools were recruiting her. No one submitted anything and until they commit to the the high school its fair game

Like the previous poster said, happens all the time, but it is against conference rules and some coaches do follow the rules.

The technical answer is easy to find in the the IAAM handbook:

2. It is considered appropriate for a school’s admissions department to provide a student information about its school; however, coaches and other members of a school’s athletic department are prohibited from contacting or communicating with a student or the student’s parents/guardians until such time as an inquiry regarding the student’s possible admission to the school has been initiated by the student’s parent/guardian through the admissions department. This policy does not preclude attendance by coaches or member school representatives to non-high school athletic events for the purpose of screening prospective student athletes. On the occasion that a prospective student athlete or her parents seek information from a member school’s representative attending a non-high school event, the school’s representative may answer preliminary questions about the member school. The school’s representative should indicate to the prospective student athlete and her parents that further contact by an athletic department representative cannot be made until the admissions department at the member school is contacted by the parents.

3. IAAM schools may not initiate contact or “recruit” middle school students who are enrolled in other IAAM schools, while the students are representing their IAAM school.

So they can't recruit while they are representing their IAAM school, but otherwise, fair game if the family has showed interest. So, if OP is asking on their own behalf, submit and inquiry. If you're asking because someone at your middle school is getting recruited, I wouldn't assume the family hasn't showed interest in some way shape or form and just hasn't felt the need to inform you.

When you invite the best players from clubs and high schools, you aren’t the one developing the talent. It’s not like he’s taking new and novice players and making them good. He’s taking already top players, and taking credit for them. All while charging $700 to have them play together.

You could say the exact same thing about UA150, Athletes Unlimited, American Select, All America, etc... We haven't been yet and we'll know more after this summer, but from all of the available information, this event gives much better feedback to the players, or any feedback at all. Most of them are just games. The feedback is something that everyone clearly thinks is valuable. Almost all girls have holes in their games. This is a place where they can get unbiased feedback to help fix them, while playing with other top players. Not sure why I feel the need to defend this guy's event, but to [Censored] on the event and not mention the issues you mention are there for all of the events seems unfair.

I don't think the initial conversation was about his event, but more about him as a person and coach. ALL events are political, his is no different.

Exactly.

Best in Class is essentially the same price as UA150, juniors open, American select and all American. Do you also wonder why they charge so much ???

BIC - $800 with coaches plus hotel stay
Jr open - $800 with few coaches plus hotel stays.
Am Select - $900 total after tryouts with coaches plus hotels.
All American -$200 and no hotels.
Bic gives great feedback. The others are revenue streams for someone. Pick the best ones for you.

Looking for some insight, my daughter is a 7th grader who starts on one of the better clubs in the area. She has expressed that she really wants to go private for high school to play lacrosse. Not sure if it's bc friends from her team will be going or already going to several different private schools or if it's a burning desire to play tougher competition.

A few questions: 1.) Do MIAA coaches actually recruit? What grade do they start engaging players? Do you need to connect with coaches to let them know your daughter is interested in playing? Should we assume that a large percentage of everyone's rosters have been recruited to play there?

I will be surprised if Deemer stays after this year. Not a lot of big talent left there after this class graduates.

We are in the same situation. Some of the girls already attend the private middle schools...assume they would just transition to the high school. Not sure how they reach out to he public school girls.

Daughter is going through the process now from public school. Reach out to the schools / coaches she is interested in. Some of them had summer camps, others came out to watch games and some invited her over for workouts, etc. Now we just are waiting on admissions and to see if any money comes out of it all. Not college recruiting, but a bit stressful to say the least.

Did they contact you or the club coach expressing their interest? Also, do you know how many players (average) they try to recruit per 9th grade year? This could be a good prep for the college recruiting years. Thanks for your input as we enter the 7th grade Spring season.

Those things may be true, but you're invested enough to be on an anonymous chat board. All I want to do is give my daughter the best opportunity to pursue something she loves, just like everyone else on here.

There is no recruiting aspect to BIC. He may pay a college coach to work a session but this is not a recruiting event. But if you need to pay $800 for feedback, you go for it.

They did have a small number of D1 coaches evaluating. I agree with you though. These things are expensive and the players doing them are already known by colleges. Insane the numbers of players that do them to get on a watch list or social media post.

On main page "Join us for a two-day recruiting event like no other." "It’s our first event that ties in a recruiting and evaluative component into the core player development sessions that FCL was built on."

If there is no recruiting aspect to it, there will be a lot of pissed-off people, it will collapse the following year, he'll be known as a fraud and his lax career will be over. We'll see.

Wow ….. you’re really upset your daughter wasn’t chosen for his event. My daughter did it last year and enjoyed it. And it’s already grown. If you don’t want to shell out the money then don’t

Just do UnderArmour where the same old club and high school
Coaches do back room deals that benefit the players they likr

Any chance it could be the best players ? Parents like you make the same argument about every chosen team. American select as well.

Sounds like someone’s daughter wasn’t chosen for under armour or BIC. You definitely do not know Deemer do you. He is a great guy and is far from a fraud.

Social Media has just poisoned girls lacrosse in general. No reason for these coaches who preach “positive mental health” put all kind of FOMO posts out. Showcasing individual girls and feeding off of “if you’re not here you’re missing” out kind of feelings. Kind of ironic. Cant wait til DD gets to college or does it transfer over to college as well? She is going D1.

Be a great parent and explain to her that won’t affect her being recruited. These events make tens of thousands for the directors to cherry pick the top talent. Not develop them. Tell your kid to kill it in the weekend when all the recruting takes place and she will be fine. $1000 for 2 days and social media posts are what’s getting them recruited.
