That has been going on for a while. Those schools were established as boarding schools years ago for the purpose of attracting out of town students and being a boarding school. My guess is they get some locals, but mainly boarders. They all play in a league of mostly boarding schools etc. This operation going on in Bmore is the next phase of one-upping your competition on the athletic side only. First it was holdbacks, then borderline double holdbacks, now lets go after D1 committed seniors as well as underclassmen to reload and have them board. Winning this way is probably not real gratifying, but nonetheless job security for thoseee coaches.... No student is attending the BL or McD boarding operation for academics only. BL/McD/CHC should look for some other boarding schools to form their own league like the Founders league in the northeast. How many BL alumni are getting pissed off...

Believe it or not, I’m Pretty sure Mcdonogh had lots of fun winning the championship last spring.

That was due to the top attack in Nation.

Yep. All 10 of them. They will also be joining with all the double holdbacks leaving schools on the east coast and all the kids looking for their first red shirt year prior to enteriing college where they will get another red shirt year. Saying that, it's just like hockey, baseball and soccer where those kids are sent off to junior academies before flushing out and heading back to college at age 21.

Fun-for sure. The players are enjoying the sport they have played for a long time representing their school. Satisfaction beating teams with a borderline double holdback, and this upcoming season having D1 commits transfer as seniors from out of league, whatever makes you tick. Beating teams in the league throughout the season that have absolutely no chance of beating you because of the the way things are structured, not so sure about that satisfaction thing. Its great for all of these boys to play in the MIAA-A conference. It makes them better for it. The followers of the sport just need to keep everything in perspective when it comes to the final standings each year and how we got to that place. We have 4 cylinder cars and 8 cylinder cars in the same league. The 8 cylinders push the envelope right to the edge through various tactics that other don't use....Just the facts

Yet St Marys in Annapolis consistently beats the Baltimore schools with no boarders.

It's a great league top to bottom. Each year we have 4cyl teams upset 8cyl teams.

No one is surprised MCD is pushing the boundaries with double holdbacks, D1 hired 1- year transfers and out of state athletic boarders because this this what they do. Further, they don't have the legacy of other MIAA schools who might push back on the insanity. It will be interesting to see how BL alumni react to their storied program being flooded with out of state boarders especially when their sons don't see the field.

I can tell you first hand, CH didnt mind, as long as they were winning. But with their recent struggles, the locals who are getting pushed further down the bench are getting restless.

Exactly!

That’s probably why St Mary’s has so many conference championships recently.

Right?

Do the parents here complaining think that “locals getting pushed further down the bench are being mistreated simply because they are local?

Or is it situation where the out of state kids are not better then the local kids on the bench?

Or is it because the out of state kids are better than the kids on the bench - but you know play my kid because he’s been here since forever?

Primarily it's troll posts (primarily a John Carroll dad/coach) trying to convince parents that being a starter on MIAA-C schools is far superior experience - for every young man - to being a bench warmer at the big baltimore schools.

The funny part is that if JC captured another 4 high level PA/Cecil/Harford recruits per year that are currently going to LB, BL, CH, Gilman, then JC would decide to increase their roster size the same way. Can you imagine the athletic director's voicemail after the TV coverage of JC lax playing a state championship game with like 9 backups on the sideline including 2 bored goalies. Hello 60 man roster.

Yes they are. He told a group of parents in a meeting that he cut his own son from his Crabs team. Trying to confirm if that is in fact true.

As a coach and a dad and a former "dad coach".......this is likely the Alpha Dad version of the story.

Most likely his kid wasn't meeting expectations for whatever reason, and was told by RM that RM had lined up another playing opportunity for him, and that Crabs wasn't for him right at that moment.....and he probably shouldn't try out.

And as the BOTC Millon Activists love to tell us, "That's not technically getting cut, it's just helpful development advice!"

So is the claim true? He's an odd dude and I think if he was forced into the situation, yeah he might cut his son. But I highly doubt that decision point ever came. Because the guy has basic common sense and like many club directors, knows how to bend the will of others using less aggressive tactics.

If you are the best in his club, You play for the Baltimore Crabs . For the one son, He didnt play for the Balt Crabs team , but one of his other teams in org the Hardshells . So if that is getting cut , well he got cut.

Who cares why he got cut. Maybe he didn’t want to work hard enough to play on that team. Just maybe he had other interests. Either way, I’m not sure it’s that big of a deal.

Hardshells are not a "B" team, simply the Crab's best offering in 8th grade with all "on age" kids.

it's this gray area of "well he's not cut - he's on the practice team," "He's not cut - he's on the B team that plays Aloha tournaments only" "Oh he's on the HoCo roster, but not the summer tournament roster," and on and on. Which I think is fine........but then when they have to turn on the Bad Cop Bravado it's like "GRR I cut that kid! I mean business!" What a bunch of salesmen dressed as youth mentors. Who's the last club lax coach who called a player he cut the previous year, to see how the kid is developing? LOL. "We develop youth athletes." Indeed.

LB Lax Dad here so leave me alone about the pix at the top lol.

1. McD - no reason they will not repeat.
2. BL - impossible to imagine they won't rebound this year and at least get close.
3. St. Marys - too much talent graduated. Surprising amount of Annapolis talent headed to IAC schools instead. It was (almost) good while it lasted.
4. CH - Not real hot on either the 2025 or 2026 recruiting class. Some changes or some secret boarding students needed.
5. St. Pauls - Things are clicking. Mistakes will be made, though. My only real hot take.
6. Spalding - will take a couple hits on the chin and then be off the radar in late season.
7-T. John Carroll - Good things happening. Just not enough of them.
7-T. Loyola. Continued floundering for no apparent reason.
9-11. TBD Gilman, Severn, MSJ.

Loyola finishes 6th despite being loaded with great talent. Elephant in the room? SP, SM, MCD, CHC and BL are all in the hunt for 1-5 in a pick ‘em. SP was a top 3 team at the end of the 2022 season. I really like this team but last year they were wildly inconsistent. SM returns a ton on O, has a great FOGO and always has a top keeper, MCD returns their explosive attack, but has some big holes to fill in the midfield and in the cage. BL returns a ton of very good players at all positions. The question is can some of them step up and replace the superstars they lost to graduation. CHC is deep and talented. Sometimes less superstar talent is more. Severn could be dark horse candidate to sneak into the top 6. Spalding is down but may surprise folks.

Out of all these schools, I know the least about Severn's current program, though I am close with many lax alums. What do they have going on, that would have them bypass the good things going on at John Carroll?

And yes I think the smallest schools (JC, SP, Severn, MSJ) share an inconsistency problem....though with huge upsides. Perhaps the opposite of the problem of Spalding and Loyola (consistent mediocrity, and consistently lose the games they're "supposed to lose").

MSJ is not a small school... Its a heck of a lot bigger then BL... Calvert Hall, Loyola and MSJ have the biggest High School populations in Private schools outside Baltimore

No one. They are spread out everywhere.

How are the 2027s falling?

They aren’t admitted yet. So nowhere yet.

Spaulding struggled this fall. Yes it was fall. But it will be interesting to see how they do this spring. They lost a good SR class.

MSJ just parted ways with their football coach with a great pedigree after 3 years. How long until this happens with MSJ lax. The Lax can coach but I don’t think he is ready to be a head coach or build a program with succession.

He needs to stop hanging with the guy at HOCO whose name rhymes with Banana. 😂 Going to be his downfall
