M&D looked great as always.

Nems took serious bagels backwards.

Skywalkers looks much improved and solid.

Coppermine has some
Great mids.

Good insight. And agree with most of your assessments. But why is Hero's playing against sub-par softer competition and not in same bracket as Aces, Eagle and M&D?

This seems like a great opportunity to play top competition instead of playing teams that won't challenge them.

Yeah I guess Hero's should have played tougher competition

Jesters are a quality team. They play slow and really know how to control the pace. Congrats to them.

Hero's is fine. If you think they aren't a top 3 team you would be mistaken. Had one bad game. Dominated the other 2.

Other observations from a long day at the fields.

M&D is tough. You get them down you better keep them down. Guess that's why they have been #1 for 2 years running. Beating Eaglestix and Aces 2 days in a row is impressive.

Aces is fast. And their 8 meter shots are faster than anything I've seen. It was fun to finally see them.

Eaglestix draw girl is a monster. She wins 90% of the draws. Great defense. Need more offense.

Pride looks improved. Saw 2 games and the are fundamentally sound. They caught the wrong draw.

BLC looked sharp. That win over Eaglestix last week was not a fluke. They will finish top 5 nationally

MD United beat NEMS 11-1, not sure I'd put them in same category.

BLC didn't really play any competition at Chesapeake and didn't blow me away in Fall Fest either.

Jesters is legit, top-10 team. In fact, I'd put them over BLC in rankings.

Hero's will be fine, remember they lost to LBC last fall, and this is no different, will bounce back.

I'm curious what the definition of a "hold back" is. Is it a girl with a birthday before September 1, 2008? Or is it a girl with a birthday before let's say June 1, 2008.

Earlier than Sep 1, 2008, technically is a holdback, though obviously some kids born in summer just start late for number of reasons.

I don't think Hero's has any but I don't really know. Let's be honest, the holdback advantage is almost gone at this point, by freshman year, most of these girls are near their growth peak.

Hero's is a big team for sure, as are many others.

Its a shame parents actually hold their daughters back a year to "dominate" the 2027 class. There are actually a few 27s on the 28 clubs and a few 28s on the 29 clubs. Can't believe parents stoop this low in order to get a competitive advantage in middle school. Although, I'm sure there are a couple that are warranted--especially with the ridiculous COVID lockdowns and the affects it had on educating our children.

I'd argue that it evens out by Sophomore year of HS. Not in the Fall of 8th grade.

Graduation year matters little these days to a teams success at this level if the roster is dominated with older girls. Its about birthdays and while it does eventually even out, check out the 2027 teams where girls look like they are still in elementary school versus those with girls that look like they could play high school varsity. It matters.

Hero’s Green has no holdbacks. I believe M&D technically does, but those girls have been in the age group for forever. So they were not a holdback for lacrosse, but likely a summer birthday holdback going into kindergarten.

M&D, especially younger teams have several holdbacks on their teams and it is directly related to some of their success.

NOPE, probably more like holdbacks going into kindergarten for lacrosse advantages. The “lacrosse families” know how to play that holdback game very well. They clearly know the advantages to it. It’s calculated.

Hero's parent here. We have one August birthday, which i guess is technically a holdback, but she has been at this grade level for a long time.

However, there is a girl on Heros 26 who is ahead a year in school, who will likely reclass next year and play on-age with the 27 team. So before anyone complains next year, she is an on-age player.

Aces is a super fun team to watch. #2 on their team is probably the best player in the country at this age group.

She is fantastic. No flaws. High motor.

YJA has a top tier middie as well. Similar to Aces #2. And they have a great goalie.

#25 draw girl for Eaglestix is a beast. Big and strong. She is a difference maker. And their defense is stout.

But we are blessed to have a lot of special talent in the Maryland region as well.

Hero's has a couple of great middies. I think they are 2 and 25. Super fast. Low attack girl is really good too. I think 20. Goalie is athletic and smart.

M&D has a pair of special mids. #8 is fantastic. Plus I believe 9 and maybe 17 as well. And an attack girl who always seems like she picks and rolls you to death #11 I think.

BLC has that big attack number 99 I believe. And a couple fast mids. Not sure of their numbers. But they are well coached.. goalie is a beast also.

I apologize for not knowing a few more. Probably 50 more just like them.

Future is bright for our region. Fun to see where these girls wind up one day. Love it when my daughter plays against these teams. That's how you get better

Good luck next weekend. Lots of huge matchups

Back and forth game here.

Are you talking about #5, the lefty on YJA? I thought she played mostly attack. But agree she is the best one of the team and one of the top 4 or 5?in the age group

FLG - Not a deep team. Strong defense and goalie, big draw girl and 2 very shifty, smart attackers with great sticks. Should be a good matchup.

FLG is a lower end A team in Maryland. Think Coppermine or NEMS.

FLG was a top 10 team last year, what are you talking about?

Coppermine is pretty far above NEMS now that they are adjusting with the loss of the M&D kids.

Hopefully NEMS can bounce back, watered down club teams in MD is not good for anyone.

Pride beat FLG last year by a couple goals. Don’t believe the FLG hype.

One game doesn’t erase a season’s worth and Pride is just outside the top-10 themselves.

There are some really good heavyweight match-ups this week in Maryland. Aside from every team in Maryland suffering from flu-like issues, hopefully most rosters are full for this tournament.

Hero's gets M&D and Aces

M&D gets BLC, Aces and Hero's

Aces gets Hero's, M&D

BLC get M&D (and then 3 favorable games)

Pride gets Hero's and BLC

Looks like M&D got the toughest schedule. I will go with Aces v BLC in the final. Although I think M&D is the best team, that schedule is too tough.

In the lower divisions, I like Stars Blue and Integrity Green to have decent runs.

Thanks flg parent, start playing in real tournaments and teams then come back here and talk. Noticed no Mid A this weekend or LLL next weekend.

Nems is dead, they lost their top players and remaining “stars” will also leave this summer

Dead? Sounds like wishful thinking.

Or you’re mistaking Middle school and hs ball. Things change drastically in hs. NEMS always improves with the “freshman shuffle” because they are arguably the top option in Harford. That NEMS 24 team just signed girls to UMD, JMU, GT, PSU and I think others.

There are always years that are anomalies. NEMS is good in HS years. But the current 27 team is not good. Look at Coppermine 28. Great team, but other teams like the 27 is dreadful. BLC is another. Great 27 team, bad everywhere else.

It just proves that unless you are Hero's or M&D, you are going to have years where certain teams have one-offs.

This NEMS team, with their best players having left...are just that.

Outside of nems 24 and 26 teams they are meh at best.

The 23 team went winless for year plus.

Most of the best harco talent leaves to programs with real recruiting history, 24 team for nems is an outlier

Agree, Coppermine 27 is solid team and far from dreadful.

Watched a bunch of games at Gerstell.

Heroes, Aces, BLC and Aces are just in a different class than everyone else. M&D coach throwing his stick after first half against heroes was odd, dude needs to set a better example to his young players

SWB vs 180 was a mess, both teams looked out of sorts. 180 was super aggressive on D and headhunting a lot to the point both coaches were yelling at the girls

M&d red got smoked by a team I haven’t heard of

Renegades looked decent

Nems 24 is the exception. The rest of club can only wish to be average.
