You would think that the counties and coaching associations that recognize kids who played great all year would let people know who they are recognizing. Is it that hard to post the list to their websites or twitter?

Umm soo what showcase is good? All 3 of those are very good and very competitive. UA is still the best one with the highest level of competition. FreeState and Nike are both fun and highly recruited by all levels of college.

The events are all watered down a lot easier to make now a days. Still a lot of college coaches attend the events so good to be seen if playing in college is the goal.

And if they played again SP will lose by 10. If they played by ncaa rules probably 15

The Public v Private debate is not fair to either side. They play by different rules both on and off the field.
It is just silly to think a JV MIAA team would beat a top 20 public. That being said, many MIAA teams have juniors on the roster. Additionally, with the prevalent use of holdbacks (which I have no objection to at all), the age of the players would be similar.

Broadneck did beat DeMatha and Catonsville beat MSJ, both impressive wins by two teams that lost in the finals and semi-finals in the state tournament.

SP averaged a shot every 75 seconds in that game and had less possession time than SM.

To be fair most MIAA JV teams are made up of juniors and sophomores. Half of which have been held back.

Publics not training those going to the next level very well by not using NCAA rules . With the amount of tax payer money thrown at schools by China Joe & Co. There should be money for shot clocks.

What is your grand private school legacy and playing career? Guessing none! SP lost and that’s fine. Heard practice was fun after that game for embarrassing the program🤣🤣🤣🤣 Kepp paying for bad educations and no playing time!

It does. Better staffs, better resources, and unlimited hours/contests/opponents available.

Show a little respect.

Private parents are paying for their kid's education and for your public school kid.

Nothing compares to the MIAA schedule and high level of lacrosse. Look at the play offs you had 20 D1 kids on the field at the same time. Most MIAA schools have 12-20 D1 kids on the roster. Public is lucky to have 1-3 D1 kids total on the field. Roster have 1 D1 kid if lucky. The rest of kids can barely throw and catch. Games are blow outs starter only play first quarter

I saw 2 middle of the road Balto Co. publics play. It was a mess. The MIAA JV teams I saw could easily beat the bottom half of the public varsities. The games against the upper half of public schools would be close.

I think the comment said “vast majority “ not all. Also a problem with public schools, the parents are notIntelligent and can’t read. SPHS played at NHLS last year and got killed by every private school they played… I think Gilman even beat them.

Public schools don’t make up their own rules, they play to NFHS rules. Until the national federation changes, schools won’t change.

Whenever publics play privates they always make the private schools play federation. The excuse is the publics don’t have shot clocks…Even when the private school hosts and has a shot clock.

It’s like giving strokes in golf for the public schools. And it’s the only way publics have a chance.

Was an entertaining year in the MIAA. Couple observations
1. BL
Coaches realized really early how much they missed Ben Smith and inserted SF into that role from that point on that team played its best lacrosse. It’s become very apparent lefty DP is purely a shooter (a wild one but a shooter ) and extremely one dimensional who is also extremely turnover prone as shown on biggest play of the year. Ball should of never started w him. CS will be a great get for Rutgers
2. McD most talented team that took some time to find its groove but did they ever! Biggest thing I noticed with this team was when they shared the ball and played together they were by far the cream of the crop complete team that didn’t rely on one or two guys
3, Calvert Hall
Never in sync entire year seemed to lack an identity was it a midfield initiated offense or attack. Seemed every game they lacked a key area and that supported by a few very odd losses
4. Spalding to no fault of the players they were extremely overrated very good at getting certain matchups but when it was all said and done their senior class underachieved. If some of those guys are who people say they are this team should of been much better as they were never a threat to win it all
5. StM
Great overall team with no “superstars” was refreshing to see a team just go out and be successful playing team lacrosse

Most MIAA A JV teams are comprised of what would be public school Sophomores and Juniors. That, in combination with the MIAA A schools taking the cream of the public school kids away, and recruiting from a 30+ mile radius, and having kids with personnel, year round trainers, means that the MIAA A JV teams should beat most public schools.

I'd be surprised if the MIAA JV didn't beat all of the public schools outside of the top 20 public schools. I'd also be surprised if the MIAA JV A teams didn't kill all of the MIAA B & C varsity teams.

You can argue the value (cost/benefit) but you can't reasonably argue they are the same in terms of level of play.

Watching 7th grade MIAA kids play around with 11th grade Towson HS kids this winter, the only difference was size and physical strength. Just an observation but still. Watched the Perry Hall varsity kids warm up for a game this spring and it didn't even look like MIAA JV. Missed passes, no off-ball movement on offense or defense. Ugly. Then again I think PHHS went 2-9 or something, so it's not like they're even average at this point. Shame....that program has fallen off.

Good analysis of the 22 season. Would add St Pauls found themselves a little too late to make up for the hole they dug for themselves and that Severn did extremely well given their lack of depth. I love Severn's coaching and their FOGO. I expect both of these teams to vie for the semis in 2023. SM returns almost everyone from what was a championship finalise. Although they lose one of their top attackmen and two of their poles as well as their keeper, the rest of their squad will be back in 2023. Look for the Saints to reload and be back in the top four again. McD will have to rebuild starting from the goal out. They do have an outstanding young keeper moving up from JV and a strong group of poles who were playing shorty on varsity this year. The offense only has to replace two of the top six middies, which is doable given their respectable JV team and incoming recruits. BL loses a great keeper and their best scorer but return a lot and will reload any missing parts from a strong JV team. With one of the strongest player development programs and coaching staffs in the MIAA Conference, they will be back in the hunt in 2023. CHC lose their best attackman, middie and pole to graduation but will reload and be in the hunt due to strong recruiting and player development. Spalding will have an off year and be back to fighting to get into the top six. SP is my favorite to win it all in 2023. They return almost everyone save their top LSM. Loyola has a chance to finish in the top six but Gilman is dead in the water. JC and MSJ need more on the field talent to compete.

The last ride the top 3 players from the miaa could score but took 15-20 shots a game. Averaging 3 goals per game but had just as many turnovers if not more. Is it worth it? With turnovers like that don’t see getting much playing time at the next level.

Assume you are talking about DP from BL. MW from Spaldy and who is the third I agree with the first two especially BL player turns over the ball way too much and is one dimensional

To compete for a MIAA title, yes. But both of those teams are no pushovers. MSJ played tons of close conference games this year and JC seems to do a good job developing talent. Heck, they even knocked off Calvert Hall. Good for them.

Truthfully, If my kid was a AAAA- AAA kid, I would be strongly looking at those schools for my kid to get early playing time and to make a name for themselves.

Hold on now, don’t disparage the Gilman lacrosse program. They searched high and LOW (mostly low) to find this low IQ, Public school coach, from an unknown High School. And the results have been underwhelming.
