As the season comes to an end for most of our boys, senior parents, hope you enjoyed the ride. Junior parents.. strap in.. The last ride starts now.. Underclass, enjoy these last few years.. for some, it will be their last until grandkids, it goes by too fast and many of us don't realize it until it is over..

Why would any coach want to burn his team out all season and then try to win a NYS championship?

Gotta be a better system. My sons conference games have been an absolute joke. Margin of victory in 6 conference games to date has been +13 goals.
Has to be a way to blend enrollment size & skill level.
Girls lacrosse does it....... Why not boys?

Trying to remember the last time a saw a girls' game with contact.......nope never saw one. The boys play a contact sport, just because your son's team got blown out by six goals a game is not indicative of good teams having to bury themselves in a super competitive game every week. Colleges don't do it either.

Absolutely agree. Girls have 5 divisions aligned by ability, regardless of school size, than they go to playoffs by group size, those playing in top divisions get highest seeds. Boys regular season in conference is meaningless and not challenging for the middle tier schools.

Again, it's not productive to have to play a top team week in and week out. Alabama football plays a ridiculous schedule when they don't have an SEC opponent lined up. Why don't they play Oklahoma? USC? or any other good team from outside the SEC? Because you can't sustain that level every week. Stop trying to entertain yourselves, see it as a coach, not a fan.

So, are you saying Coaches knew he was leaving for a prep school anyways? So, Why give a spot on Varsity to someone leaving??

WHO CARES

I don’t but social services should and as so often happens it won’t work out for those trying to game the system. What world do the parents live in where they tell their 11th grade kid, we’re putting you back in 9th grade? That’s not reality. Your setting your kid up to fail.

Hmmmm, never an issue in football or basketball. Let's be clear, the vast majority of those kids succeed, they don't fail. Just look at the rosters for previous years and see where they are now. Really simple. Very few failures. Your theory is incorrect.

It's less productive to play in a conference that only fields 4 or 5 competitive teams out of 15. The majority of games the better players are either done by halftime or playing other positions. Bad job all around in Nassau. Follow the girls conference model and figure it out.

The coaches would disagree dad. Here's a thought, if you enjoy the girls' game so much, tell your son to play with the ladies. Problem solved, boys coach gets rid of the headache of you, and you get to watch competitive girls lacrosse.

Ok coach. Question for you. What is productive about a team beating someone 23-1 or 19-0 or 22-1? Nothing is productive in those games for either team.

Schedule doesn’t need to be full of the most competitive games….but should be able to build a schedule of appropriate competition throughout the season.
You will want games where you can test your top lines and give role players bigger roles….but those laugher games do no one any good

First off, I have no skin in the game my son's team is not affected, but...can anyone explain the formula Section XI uses for standings? How does a 5-9 team make playoffs over an 8 - 6 team? Is strength of schedule/wins/goals weighted that heavily? Not trying to knock any team but it just doesn't seem to make sense. You play the schedule you're given.

Each team is preseason ranked ( Coaches are asked where they think they stand and then it is voted on by each coach).
The first ranked team plays a much harder schedule than the 12th. The 12th plays a harder schedule than the 20th ranked team. The 5-8 team you speak of was pre season ranked 6th. The 8-6 team was pre season ranked 17th. The 5-8 team also beat the 8-6 team when they played this year 12-3.

Its actually a great system. It is power rankings.

Simply you either gain or lose points for a win or loss based on the opponents win percentage.

If you beat a team that is 9-1 (90% win percentage) you would get 9 points.
If you lose to a team that is 9-1 (90 % win percentage) you would only lose 1 point.

So you don't get rewarded as much for beating bad teams.

Think its a close to perfect system. It allows the top teams to player tougher competition without being punished. It allows the bottom teams to win the games they are supposed to and then pick off 1-2 better teams to make playoffs.

Its all based on strength of schedule and power points. Goals mean nothing

Look at GC schedule, CSH schedule, Farmingdale schedule. They play all the non conference games they need. If you’re school can’t field a competitive team, drop the sport. If you’re enamored with the girls game, watch the girls. Simple.

It is based on what class you are in, A, B, C or D which is determined by enrollment, so in section 11 division 2 there are B, C and D teams. The standings aren’t broken up by class, so it is misleading

I’m going to disagree. Although kids may succeed by holding back 1-3 years; and this seems to be the normal pathway for many at this point there are plenty of failures; kids who don’t end up at top colleges and kids who end up quitting lacrosse completely so I would venture to guess that “very few failures” is inaccurate

As an anecdote, my kids first taste of this way back when was when he went to his first Under Armour tryout. He was in 8th grade and it was the 8-9th grade team and some kids at the tryout had driven themselves there. Yes those kids did way better than my kid but I am wondering what the definition of success is. Success at lacrosse or success in life because being a holdback only gets you so far and one wonders what life lessons you’ve learned. Maybe Elon Musk was a triple holdback.

Out of curiousity, you mention football and basketball mostly reclassing down 2 grades. I didn’t think that was all that common for those two sports. Anyone know how prevalent it actually is for the 3 sports? Who does it the most?
