Here is a nice tip for you all… you can negotiate all four years and have it in your commitment contract. Not all coaches will do it, and not all players can demand it. Most coaches like to offer a first year offer that is the minimum over the four years with room to increase over the years. Some will visit and increase on their own, some will need to be nudged or negotiated and some “offer” it knowing they will never increase. If you don’t have a minimum in your commitment contract, coaches can decrease your scholarship each year, as rumored from the team mentioned in the above post. These contracts can be completely customized to meet the needs of both the player and/or the coach. Treat it like you would a business contract or a divorce agreement, look it over carefully, make as many corrections as needed and get all the terms where both parties need them to be, then sign it. Coaches prepare this document based and a couple points made during the offer process, they are going to prepare the document and many of the undiscussed points in their favor, don’t just sign off on it.

I do not believe that there is such a thing as a commitment contract.

Yeah, no contract needed, just enroll in the school and hope there is magically scholarship money taken off your account, LOL.

Then you don’t know much about college athletics! My kids were guaranteed in writing their minimum scholarship for four years. They even honored that commitment for kids that were kicked off the team. This is Big 10

My daughter would have 100% turned down Florida and PSU for Lehigh. She's committed to a top 20 high academic school. But Lehigh was very high on her list and not at all on her list?.... PSU, Florida, Stonybrook, Maryland, Syracuse...nowhere, because those are not her thing what-so-ever. Not everyone is looking for the same thing. She will play top 20 lax and get to the NCAAs every year, plus go to a great school. Win-win for her, but she would have absolutely chosen a lesser lax program for a high academic school.

Listen In wouldn’t tell my daughter to not commit to a school because it appears to be a immanent coaching change but to not take that in to consideration when you know it’s probable just seems dense.

That’s great, but don’t leave out the facts that Florida is a much better academic school than Lehigh, and PSU is equal academically but much better on job placement. Both Florida and PSU are much stronger lax programs.

Wait...what. So your 23's and soon 24's meet with a college coach and one of your questions are is there "a immanent coaching change" going to happen here in 2+ years. And...... you, as a nobody parent seem to know a coaching change is probable. Soooo, where are the coaching changes happening in the next 2+ years. Please enlighten us, Geez cmon. You nuts on this BOTC thing have no clue and talk nonsense.

Lehigh is not a top 20 academic school and many people would never choose Lehigh over Penn State, Florida, Maryland or Syracuse (I would not put SBU in the same category). It’s about personal preference and there are many students as well as student athletes who want the education / athletic and overall college experience that you get at those schools.

As far as going to a Top 20 academic school that is terrific, congratulations.

14 of of the Top 20 schools have D1 women’s Lacrosse:

Princeton
Columbia
Harvard
Yale
Stanford
Penn
Duke
Hopkins
Northwestern
Dartmouth
Brown
Vanderbilt
Cornell
ND

Out of the above only 7 will likely go to the NCAA tournament every year.

Princeton
Stanford
Penn
Duke
Hopkins
Northwestern
Notre Dame

In my experience, the majority of players who get recruited by those 7 schools are not considering Lehigh. Lehigh is neither a top Lacrosse school or a top academic school.

The funny thing is that parents of players who go to Florida, PSU, Maryland, Syracuse usually seem genuinely happy and they don’t feel the need to justify their daughters decision. On the other hand, I have heard many times from parents of players who do not go to Top 20 lacrosse schools try to justify it by saying they prioritized academics that’s why they are at a school like Lehigh or even a DIII school. The reality is that if the player is a Top Tier player, there are plenty of high academic schools to go to.

It’s a self defense mechanism…. Some parents are simply not able to admit that their daughter is not considered a top tier recruit by the coaches at the best college programs.

Nothing wrong with Lehigh, it’s a good school as are Florida, PSU, MD, SBU and Syracuse.
But please stop trying to elevate Lehigh above them.

Regarding the comment that the UF coach is "on the hot seat"....I don't think that is an accurate assessment. UF already has a succession plan in place. My daughter opted to commit elsewhere but had nothing to do with any perceived coaching instability....we really enjoyed the staff and the experience, and they committed a great 2023 class.

Probably the most logical post ever on BOTC. There you have it, the holy grail of women's lacrosse. The end all list of 7 programs that combine high caliber academics and high caliber lacrosse.

Pretty much! Took a couple kids to figure this out. I recommend watching the movie King Richard....very enlightening even though lacrosse does not compare to the potential of tennis, lots of paralleles.

The college landscape has changed since I went to school big time. Florida and Maryland didn't have near the requirement they used to have, they were closer to party schools. It would have been funny to put them in the same sentence as Lehigh 30+ years ago, not anymore. Both of those schools are serious schools with the ACT and SAT scores to back it up. Don't get to hung up on acceptance rates, the caliber of students vary that apply to certain schools. I am amazed at the Florida numbers, proof that the South is where the young people prefer. The whole SEC is very popular with North East kids, every school having womens lacrosse should not be to far away.

No way anyone turns down Penn State or SB for Lehigh. That’s actually funny! Also Florida for Davidson?? You definitely do not know what actually happened. Stop making up nonsense.

There are also no girls who have “outstanding offers” and have not decided. From hear on out, we will see girls commit to lower programs. A rare girl may still commit to a top 15, but not many

not so sure. penn state and sb are very very weak academically. Lehigh is a real school

Would have?

Probably the most logical post ever on BOTC. There you have it, the holy grail of women's lacrosse. The end all list of 7 programs that combine high caliber academics and high caliber lacrosse.[/quote]

I assume you are being sarcastic.. in any event, I am grateful for the sport of lacrosse because it offers more opportunity than any other sport for our children (especially our daughters). Nothing else compares! Help your daughter find the best fit, help her find a school where she can be happy and get an education and enjoy all of the positives that being on a team can provide. This sport can truly be an important pice of her overall education and can help prepare our daughters for life. Very few athletes (in any sport) will win a championship of any kind, that’s not what it’s about, IMHO, it’s about the journey and all the positives that can be gained along the way. Good luck to all and enjoy the ride.

More important factor is what majors are possible at these schools. Premed and Engineering are extremely difficult with D1 lax. The labs and studying conflict with the ridiculous practice/lifting schedule. You don't want the Womens study major for your hard earned $$$. No one beisdes the parents will probs care about the lacrosse.

Do you (or anyone else) have insight on how to discuss the issue of majors with coaches? Any data on whether certain schools steer their athletes away from majors or courses of study that will have some labs?

My daughter is currently interested in pursuing a course of study that will allow her to have the necessary prerequisites to apply to medical school. The course of study/major does not have to be biology or chemistry. I am hoping that some schools have a template that threads the needle on getting all the required courses done while not necessarily pursuing a science degree.

You can get a pretty good idea but looking at the current rosters and seeing what the players majors are. I know one young woman who chose to go to Tufts (D3) because she wanted to go to med school and didn't feel she could do that at a D1.

I do not know a single Women’s Studies major currently playing DI women’s lacrosse (I currently have 2 in college at top 10-20 programs). STEM is not the end all be all and not every student wants a specialized major. There are Many very successful people who majored in everything from engineering to political science. I know engineering majors at top 10 lacrosse/academic schools and know somewhat recent grads who have gone to Med School and are now MD’s.
Nobody said it would easy, but it can be done.

Lehigh is ranked #49 is “more selective”and admits 50%

Florida is also a much more desirable school with a great atmosphere and big football.

Please stop with Lehigh!

Just came across this article… it’s from a while back but I’m pretty sure it still holds true and is relevant today.

Lehigh & Davidson are good schools but to try and diminish Florida, Penn State, Syracuse, Stony Brook et… is simply ignorant. IMHO the overall goal is to get an education and set the student athletes up for the best opportunities after graduation and schools like the ones listed above do a great job.

Don’t sleep on those large State Schools.

It will pick back up mid January.
Aren’t some school waiting for grades to come out?

I don’t think it will pick back up in January. Coaches will be focused in on their season and will not be in recruiting mode until their season ends.

It seems like the top recruits committed and its come to a halt. Are 23s still going to be getting committed next summer?
