Does anyone know if the Turtles are the only 2017 in this tourney? Most of the teams are 2016

You have to remember that different parts of the country have different cut off dates to start school. In most parts of the country, 2017 teams are U-15 where in NY, many of the 2016 kids are still u-15 eligible.

Yeah that's 2017 via MD and PA math. No 2016 in those programs would qualify with birth certificate rule. Why wouldn't they be there? Uhhh, cause they're too OLD!!!

Once again no Crabs - does anybody know why? Surely that program could put together a fantastic group of kids that meet the age cutoff. Also, surprised that there is only one California team - where are the West Coast Starz? They represented themselves admirably in this tournament the past few years. My pick to win it all - New Jersey North.

Your rising sophomores would be too OLD. Otherwise they would be playing... that darn birth certificate rule keeps getting in the way. Why can't it be like all the tournaments where we play down???

Sounds like excuses coming out again...... If PA and MD use their math for 2017 (mid-late 1998) birthdays, then wouldn't the 2016 from the rest of the country be the same age? So I don't see how the MD and PA teams are playing down if LI 2016 are 1998 and MD/PA 2017 are 1998.

School cut off dates are different throughout the country. LI is generally 12/ 1 - child must turn 5 by 12/1 of year starting kindergarten. PA is 9/1 - child must turn 5 by 9/1 of year beginning kindergarten. I'm not sure what cut off date is generally used in MD.

Hello anybody home? You just proved my point. In this tournament you have to provide a birth certificate. That's why your 2016 are not eligible and ours are. So between your hold backs, grade repeaters and later cutoff you have to send 2017's. If it was a regular tournament with no proof of age all those ineligible OLDER kids would playing DOWN against younger kids. That's why everything needs to go age specific with birth certificate proof.

US Lacrosse needs to establish two standards for all their tournaments BOTH age and grade.

The U-15 National Championship is intended to be Rising Freshmen, but US Lacrosse is ambiguous.

The reason they use U-15 instead of U-14 is so that the 10-15% of rising freshmen who are not U-14 eligible do not have to sit on the sidelines for a year watching their classmates play.

Unfortunately, the U-15s who already completed Freshman year (rising sophmores) are aslo playing. They are at a distinct advantage having experience with the speed of the H.S. game. US Lacrosse does itslef a disservice allowing this to occur.

Cage, any idea where this age year/grade year stands with US Lacrosse? Do you know if they are even considering?

Most of the teams that play in this tournament are rising sophomores. When the Jesters won a few years ago it was a team of rising sophomores and the express team last year were rising sophomores.

If you are asking what the restrictions are for this tournament as established by US Lacrosse, yes, these restrictions are published here (click here).

Player Ages and Eligibility

All current US Lacrosse members who meet the age requirement below are eligible and welcome to compete in the 2013 US Lacrosse U15 National Championship.

Birthdate Status

Born on or after 9/1/1997 - Eligible for U15 Championship

Proof of Age Submission

All 2013 U15 National Championship participants are required to submit to US Lacrosse a copy of a proof of age document in order to be eligible to participate in this event. Note: If a player participated in 2012, US Lacrosse already has his/her proof of age filed unless stated otherwise.

Acceptable proof of age documents:
•Birth Certificate
•Passport

As a group, too many of our posters confuse themselves because they start mixing the U-age groups with High School Class Years and then start using quantifiers like "some" and "most".

Age group classifications are an "all" or "none" quantifier which makes your observation worthless and only creates more arguments over teams that are cheating.

BOTC has published the absolute rules on this tournament that will be validated at check-in. Discussing these National Championships in terms of school years, grade levels, or class (freshman, sophomore) shows a lack of understanding.

Thanks cage. Now for all you people who held there kid back, or repeated a grade, it doesn't matter if your kid is 2016, 2017 or 2018 it's his age!!! If we could only get this for every tournament and showcase, it would really get rid of all the nonsense...

You NY idiots are something else. I don't live in MD, nor does my son play for the Crabs. But we know most of those 2016, and nearly all of them could play U15 in terms of age. Get over yourself.

Mid-Atlantic teams don't go to this tournament because it's a fraud. Plus it's outrageously expensive to fly down to FL just to play mostly average lacrosse teams.

Need to beat Dukes HHH in your own age group first. Forgot about that loss already? Maybe Dukes are the chosen ones.

Joey Sanky too small? Jordan Wolf too small? Yes - chosen to be on the best team in 2017 or 2016. And we're about to prove it.

That's a ridiculous statement - like all Mid-Atlantic teams got together in some sort of "State of the Union of Mid-Atlantic youth lacrosse" Congress and held a vote to denounce that a tournament hosted by the sport's governing body should be declared a fraud. Exactly on what basis is this tournament a fraud? Wait, I think I know the answer - this tournament doesn't allow Mid-Atlantic states to play down so it's a fraud. Face it, mid-Atlantic teams just can't compete if not allowed to play down.

Why aren't all lacrosse youth tournaments mandated to follow this age limit? Isn't this supposed to be the sport's governing body?

Unless of course the Turtles meet up with the Express Piranhas in the Championship in which case it will be declared a tie with co-champions.

What about FCA? They are from MD and last I checked that is about as Mid-Atlantic as it gets. Also, I'd consider the 2 or 3 NC teams "mid-Atlantic" according to my map.

I see Chanenchuk is listed as the coach for the baracudas. What happened to Powers? I can't imagine Powers would pass up an opportunity to win this.
