Didn’t think you’d be able to do the math, but if you had, you’d realize he’s well within the single holdback parameters. A kid born between Sept 1, 2008 and Aug 31, 2009, would be “on age” in 7th grade. Assuming his 13th birthday is, in fact, in November of this year, he should be in 7th grade. But alas, he is in 6th, so he is a single holdback.

Note: all of the holdbacks are turning 13 this year. So, make the case if you want for being a dirty player, man amongst boys, whatever satisfies your insecurities. But he’s not a double

2 summers ago a hawks player broke a ML fogo's wrist at Hershey who also happened to be the coach's son. I don't recall a single complaint from the parents (or on this board) or the coach after the game. Slashes happen in lacrosse. Btw, who won that game?

Tell your cupcake player and helicopter parents to try ping pong or something else with no contact, clown.

#47 broke the Hawks Fogos arm at the end of the HOCO championship game on a really dirty play. Unbelievable.

Where are the Madlax parents at?? Are you guys ok with this. No 13 year old should be in 6th grade. Just shouldn’t happen. I’d be embarrassed for my kid if that’s the case. If he’s a Nov 2008 birthday, he’s almost a year older than the oldest kids on the Hawks, who catch some unwarranted holdback criticism. Hawks don’t have any large kids like that that have gone through puberty. Checking a birth certificate won’t do anything because we’re grade based… but rest assured they can get called out for it vocally. Kids not even that good to begin with

LI parent here. We have players on our 2028 teams who just turned 11. The 2009 bday are tuff enough but now a 2008! Absolutely gross.

My kid is 11 until March, so I’m not a holdback parent. But you all have lost your mind. Obviously, there are holdbacks. Madlax has a few (less than half), as do a lot of teams including the Hawks. The cut off date is September 1. So if a kid was born in the months of September, October, or November, and he was held back one year, he’s 13. If he’s on age, he is 12 or 11. Get a grip.

And LI dad— if your kid just turned 10, he’s a prodigy, as he should be in 5th grade if his birthday is after Sept 1st. Congrats.

The problem is your parents and your team are dirty. Period. That fact that you have kids nearly 2 years older than most others makes it worse. And no the Hawk fogo is not a holdback as if that somehow makes it ok.

Your db player gave a “stay down” gesture after he was being escorted off the field by the ref. Meanwhile the db parents were complaining that it was a bad call while the kid lay on the ground with a broken arm. Pure trash.

I can only imagine the WCS play this week. I’m sure there will be more in the future.

What’s the deal with the US Club Lax 2028 rankings? How are they calculated? I’m sure there is some sort of logic but they are so bizzare and random it’s not making sense.

I guess it depends on the state. In VA, MD I imagine the cutoff is 9/1. In NY the cutoff is 12/15

They want you to believe it’s not and that since only half of the team is holdbacks it’s ok.

Imagine if you had to hold your kid back twice because he was too slow to play and learn with the kids of his own age.

Hawks holdback criticism is warranted but carry on. Nearly all of your best players are 27s.

But no need to distract here.

That much of an age gap is just crazy and indefensible.

I get it - a fall birthday pre first kid will be 18-24 months older than on age. That’s within the terrible rules. But it’s competitively laughable.

No 2026s though hahaha. Not a single player on the Hawks makes you go WOW what a holdback. Maybe only in skill…

Not a single Hawk makes me think holdback in skill. They held back for a reason.

Wrong.

Technically it’s a single holdback, but a Nov bday would put you in the oldest 25% even if you played on age, so playing down you could be competing against kids 21+ months younger than you. Whatever we call it, there’s a difference between a kid with an Aug bday who is a couple weeks older than on age and one who is 9+ months older.

Moot point, however, since this is allowed by the rules in only this sport.

(And before anyone wastes time with “go play soccer if you don’t like it, you ninny,” I will note that both golden gloves boxing and USA wrestling are age-based, not bc they are soft but bc it makes sense.)

Not a Madlax fan but I know at least 5 boys in other teams mentioned on this site born in winter 2009 (Jan-March). One boy turns 13 in 6 weeks.

So it happens everywhere. That is a fact.

There are a number of teams that aren’t ranked yet since they haven’t played enough fall games yet (problem should have been rectified this weekend). You should see “more appropriate” rankings in the next update although ranking teams in 6th grade is beyond me.

True, not against the rules and every team is doing it! Just going to happen more and more now. Rules should change

The Hawks team is probably, on average, 2 inches taller than the Madlax team. Maybe it’s all that Wawa, or maybe it’s age. Madlax has some holdbacks for sure, but not a bunch. They’re small and scrappy, with one big bruiser who is clearly a holdback. The Hawks goalie hits his head on the crossbar. NL has two six footers at FO and goalie. So what.

Small scrappy and completely ok with an abusive coach, shady use of much older and out of town players. Stay on the high horse Madlax parents, whatever keeps you going.

This explains why Long Island teams always dominated the WSYL as it was the only on age lacrosse tournament.

The Hawks goalie looks huge because he’s good. He’s actually very average.

Yawn. More chatter on how good their holdbacks are from Hawks dads.

I guess it supposed to be better cause they aren’t big lol?

Anyway, I’m not positive but I think NL has the most holdbacks in the division.

Carry on.

What is the true issue with teams having holdbacks? Is it that the opposing teams are unable to compete? Are people concerned their child loses time in the spotlight?

If your child is good, playing against/with holdbacks seems to facilitate the younger players development at a faster rate.

I’ll keep it simple, when a kid is much older, and is dirty that it’s something bad for everyone involved.

That plus your parents continually making excuses for crappy behavior by your teenage player, the coach and the parents is enough.

Nobody cares about NL, Crabs, Hawks or FCA because they don’t cross check kids to the point where people throw up.

Hope that sums it up for you.

As a MD parent I didn’t know that it was different, so is 12/1 the cutoff for school all schools up there?

Definitely a disadvantage and btw, we detest MadLax too and my kid doesn’t even play for the Hawks.

Sixes was a lot of fun. Very little defense and lots of scoring. Well run for the first year and the 28s had a great turnout. A big positive was the kids just got to play, no club uniforms, mostly mixed rosters. Also limited coaching, no set offense and it looked at times like a neighborhood pickup game. With 4 fast games and getting home to catch most of the nfl games, what’s not to like? This format is a joke for the Olympics but for 6th graders and younger, it is a breath of fresh air.

Any feedback from parents whose kids went?

Yeah, the competition was terrible at Elite 6, inaugural event inguess. The one 2028 team of A-listers, by the looks of the picture they posted, scored like 200 goals. Probably became boring at some point.

Holder and out of town players? Every one of our kids is from the immediate Bethesda McLean and DC pocket. There’s one kid that comes from Richmond area. That is it. Team has not changed one iota in three years with the exception of a new kid from Fairfax Virginia.Unlike the Hawks who pull from about 100 mile radius. But whatever, we smoked you last time out and that’s all we have to go on at this point. Untill next time Amigo!
