Overachieving and underachieving are real things.

The league was very balanced last year. That’s the way it should be. There will be a favorite this year but 4-5 teams can win it.

Sorry Boys, Say what you want, Spalding takes the title this year .

They lost 5 starters. And replaced with what bunch of D3 guys maybe. Mighty Mouse going to carry the whole team if they can win a FO and make Defensive stop

Watching them in the fall league - Mighty Mouse is the only real player they have. Pretty easy to beat a one dimensional team.

I think the Spalding fans are talking about winning the FALL league not the MIAA Spring season. Hehehe

Based on the recent 23 commitments, I wouldn’t count out STM. A lot of high level players.

Well most of the MIAA players are D3 guys who pretend like they can play at D1 level. Good news is that they can brag about being on a D1 team . Bad news , most ( not all ) dont get much playing time.

So I see a tight race to the Title. With Spalding taking it.

Calvert Hall and Loyola numbers are crazy. You better make a good impression as a freshman, or have a transfer plan in place.

My kids (boy and girl) both go to SMA and have since kindergarten. I can say that SMA has a deep lax culture from an early age, it doesn’t start in HS. In 4th/5th grade there were at least 10 kids from his hawks team at SMA and a bunch from the black team and other clubs.

The girls are much the same, a few M&D, Heros and SW but a ton from MD United, Integrity, CC lax etc.

Basically the population from early on is super lax centric. Lots of parents who played at SMA and elsewhere etc.

I would guess SMA actually loses lax kids between 8th and 9th. Where do the kids at Spaulding etc come from?

STM is the class of AACo. Great program and kids/families. They have fun for sure. It will take a lot to stop CH this year- just like last year. Its awesome to read that CH not winning a championship is a bad season for them and making the playoffs is a great year for others like spalding. Its what makes high school sports fun. Team of the decade and new kid on the block. Good luck.

Is SG the only MIAA team playing in these fall leagues ? Are they the only MIAA team that know now who is on Varsity already? Big difference come spring when CH-BL-LB-STM all have to have tryouts and only play in a handful of fall tournamants due to the majority of players in fall and winter sports. Spalding will play in 3 fall leagues ,3 fall tournaments,3 indoor winter leagues before all other schools even know 100% who will be on Varsity. All while head coach is on maternity leave...

Any high school that has its top players participating in fall lacrosse (and not a fall sport) is doomed.

The best athletes play multiple sports.

Good or bad for Spalding for engaging their players year round? Good or Bad for Spalding to do all this while their coach has a new child?

Is this a dig at Spalding or a compliment?

I've been on BoTC for so long, I cant tell any more.

Doomed?

If a HS lacrosse player decides to focus on lacrosse in HS and in college but had played multiple sports up to HS is he still considered a multi sport athlete?

Does playing multiple sports only count at the HS level? Why?

Kids lose out of the shared experience and memories from participating in another sports. Also overuse injuries are driven by playing one sports and the repetitive stress.

Again…look at the top players coming out of Baltimore over the last decade. Most were multi sport athletes.

Do any of the DeMatha, SJC, or GZ kids play another sport? Football and hoops are just a different level there. In fact, the football players don't really play hoops at those schools anymore.

With NHSLS occurring the day before, I doubt that coaches will feel pressed to play another event the day after. The attending schools include all the A conference MIAA schools.

He did say lacrosse, not football.

Class of 2019 Lacrosse rankings aren't hard to find. Doesn't look like Shaw was a top 100 lacrosse player and based on the rankings he wasn't even the best player on his team. Good athlete but not the "best in the state" in either sport.

Can’t find Buchner (QB at ND) either in the class of 2021. He was top 5 in that class.

Ok, let me correct my post "This has to be his stunad father. Dad is much closer to being the biggest hump in the state than son was to being the best LACROSSE player"

Feel better now Bryn?

I don’t think anyone is attacking the boy because of dad.
It is because the boy kicked a helpless person on the ground several times. Coward move.

The question is, how fast will Spaulding go back to the bottom of the barrel once the benefactor’s son graduates?

Here are the facts: Spaulding will be good this year. But it will take a miracle bigger than BL's last year to beat Calvert Hall and McDonogh. Its possible, just not likely. Every year and every game in the MIAA is tough. Its great that there are 3 schools in the County that are good now. The difference isn't money and dads, the difference is which of the top programs are capable of always improving and which program's best kids show up. Talent is everywhere. Wasted talent is not.

Calvert Hall over rated again this year. McDonough and BL both lost lots of talent the miaa is wide open this year.

Spalding may stay in the mix next year also. They accept low academic kids no other schools want. Public school with uniforms.

Lets hope this fall teams can stay healthy through to spring. So many injuries has kept good players on the sideline.Fall ball is good time to start evaluating players on your team that are moving up to Varsity. Many lax players will miss Fall Ball due to Football Playoffs and then Basketball/wrestling.

McD has been overrated for last few years. Go down in playoffs each year. This year will be no different as they have stars on paper , but no actual stars on field.

CH will be good . but not like the CH of a few years ago. Another team with numbers that dont translate into victories. Too much nepotism going on to get to finish line. Same story prior to their dominance of a few years due to imports from out of state, not home grown relatives.

BL has another down year in regular season and goes on to Championship game again.

Loyola does their usual play anyone who has some name recognition at expense of better players, with same lousy results.

St Paul/Gilman/Severn ..Please none will be a factor.

Spalding is about to shock again with a title run .

StM is on to another year of some wins and fold in playoffs.

The Rest , do we even need to mention??
