my daughter plays for yellow jackets..from may, june and july we had over 24 practices. It all depends on what team and who your coaches are.

Your right. Only the "blue" teams get the best of the best as far as getting your money's worth. Extra practices, good coaches, and the ability to try out wearing their blue uniform. It is difficult for the other players to prove themselves, specifically in the younger age groups, and be moved into the "blue" program. The older girls seem to be selected more on skill than the younger girls.

My kid played on the Pride, Yellow Jackets and Liberty. Pride= walk on team coached by HS kids, YJ = as long as you can buck up your kid will be put on "a" team coached by hung over college kids and they play their girls down in every tournament, Liberty = disciplined and the most selective, coached by college coaches. I will find out soon if it was all worth it, my kid deciding between 2 D1 schools and had quite a FEW d#3 interested. Her grades are 88-94 overall avg, not a great student but she tries. Thanks for this blog, wish it was done sooner and hope we all halp each other.

They are really not based out of any certain area- practices are generally held in Nassau County- St. Doms, Mitchel Field and Seaman Neck Park. The woman who runs it is Danielle Gallagher, I believe she is also involved w/ USA Lacrosse? You can google it- legit operation, the organization does not take on everyone who tries out-unlike other clubs who will take anyone with a check. 3 girls later I found out the hard way.

Thanks for this site, good stuff.

The past two years I have seen girls walk onto a team in the spring, never having attended a tryout. That's legit or a girl with a check?

That is due to the fact that some girls quite the teams over winter and there was still space on teams - this was my kid 2 years ago

No it was liberty. Two of my daughter's friends have skipped tryouts and then gone on to get a spot on a team with no tryout. Two years in a row I have seen this happen and I have no ill will towards liberty, just stating a fact.

Do not listen to that Liberty parents who clains all teams are coached bY college coaches. All these clubs are coached by college players or experienced parents/high school coaches assisted by college players.

The Liberty is Manhasset and Garden City based. Yellow Jackets are run by Northport Varsity Coach(play on the Yellow Jackets or do not play High School). The LI Express is run by St. Anthonys coaches, Chaminade coaches and Ward Melville coaches and athletic director.

All these programs are the same, the elite players get treated great and the rest can play as long as you pay, IT IS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY.

It was good to see Capital Blue 2013 finally get a chance to play YJ 2013. Capital won the Club Championship this summer and YJ won the u15 championship in Orlando defeating a team of talented rising 8th and 9th graders from Northern VA in the final. Capital defeated YJ 8-2 in the President's Cup this past weekend in Naples.

Beautiful Florida weather for the Cup.Actually 2013 Blue team was allegedly missing 4 good players and they beat the Long Island Yellow jackets easily.

Capital Blue 2013 cruised to an 8-2 victory over the Yellow Jackets, paced on offense by Besser Dyson (3 goals), Margaret Tucker Fogarty (2), and Carly Reed, Layne Vorhees, and Riley Christopher with 1 each. The Capital defense played particularly well. Wyatt Whitley, assigned to cover YJ and U-19 National Team attacker Courtney Fortunato, held the YJ star scoreless. Capital had no trouble moving the ball down field in transition, winning almost all the 50-50 balls and rarely, if ever, turning it over. It appeared Capital again playing like the team it was when it won the National Club Championship early in the summer.

Yellow Jackets were playing with a mixed team. YJ had also played 4 games in a row that day and Capital had only played one game in the morning. See how it it is this summer when they play each with whole teams.

Many questions are being asked about the 2012 Blue team - the one handled by Carol Rose herself (of reported Northport High School fame). Are these kids really the ones getting the top attention from college coaches?

This picture rolls up to about 60-70% placement from these Yellow Jacket teams with lower rates on the red team and higher on the blue/gold teams. Given that the fees are the same, doesn't this all imply that the red team is really about supporting the club on the revenue side without the same commitment given to blue/gold recruiting?

Girls are assigned a team based upon skill level. The Blue team has the best players but not every girl is going to play for the top D1 school. There are lower level D 1 plus D2 and D3
programs in which girls from all YJ teams come from. The idea is too give as many girls as possible an oportunity to play in college. With this in mind, the YellowJackets are very successful in achieving this.

Successful at making money It's all about the money.. Tryouts are a joke. The teams are predetermined for the most part. the teams don't even intermingle at tryouts. the chances of that girl on red moving up...slim and none. save your money

That list for 2011 is incomplete and has not been updated. I know of 3 other kids that are committed and not listed. There rate is much higher and those other numbers are just tryout results.

I bet they place over 60 of 2011 class that had 3 teams. How many others could there have been maybe total of 72 guessing 24 per team. Actually very good odds!!

They are doing a great job placing these kids!! Your question relating to fees/committment is not valid. Oh and I believe they have 5-6 2012 commitments already too. They are off to a good start

I count 56 on there site!!! More to come D3 kids are still being announced. My guess they place about 63 of about 70 kids.
At that rate who cares what color team!!

What does placing a kid on a D3 team mean? I was under the impression that D3 did not offer scholarships.

it's not just about scholarships. You may just get into a school that you otherwise would not have because of lax.

When you look at the distribution, how many NCAA Division I spots are won and how many are with scholarships? If the Yellow Jackets are placing 80-90% of their players, this is really positive, but isn't that what most of the other clubs are doing?

When you come right down to it, what is the difference between placements? It either has to be money based or school based.

Yes, these would have to be verbals at this point (along with some financial discussions). Signing days will not happen until senior year.

The question is actually very simple. With all the money collected by the Yellow Jackets and Carol Rose's crew, was the end result (and scholarship money) actually worth it? When you are spending upwards of $2000 for just the summer, not to mention the rest of the year, is a $10,000 scholarship really worth the chase? Probably not.

where do you get the $10,000 figure from? I know someone who just got well over $100,000 for the four years who plays for Carol and crew. That math works. Never mind the head start in the admissions process which benefits probably averages more than 7 figures over these young ladies working career.

Long Island has many good clubs. They understand that their role is the development and placement, including money, of their players. Most of them do a great job.

Getting into great schools is very difficult without it. I only know of only one high school where the coach helps regardless of club affiliation.

So go ahead and save your $2,000 and take your chances.

Well, $10,000 would be a 1/4 scholarship for one year - a reasonable first year award for a lacrosse player, male or female. Since each scholarship is an annual contract, how could any player have a guaranteed four year deal for $100,000? Your statement makes no sense since each athletic contract is renewed each season. Your child could be promised that money, but that promise is only as good as this year's contract.
