Good luck to the team and their sideline.

Where will Loyola get kids? Koopers?

New clubs (except True) always get a decent mix of kids because the first year of a club is the only time most clubs have an honest tryout. Kids who are "late bloomers" (aka improving vs their age any time after 4th grade) are always looking for opportunities like that because why would they go work out for Crabs where there are 60 kids trying out for 3 roster slots.

As for Loyola, in approximate order of club affiliations by players: 91, Looneys (now Predators and FCA), FCA, Predators (JV and younger), Team MD, Crabs, several (but not lots of) Hawks, very few ML, NL kids.

Moral of the story is that Bar teams like Looneys and Koopers don't last

Well that's the outcome of the story (Greene Turtle too, I think). Looking back just 3 or so years they were all running strong (for their realistic status among other clubs). What's the moral of why and how they fell apart? I'm not sure it's one thing.

Same could be said for "gym-owned teams" - Coppermine Boys lax folded, API Diamondbacks are supposedly folding (last FB post in 2021, website is now in Chinese). Pro Start (Edge Arena Kent Island) and Susquehanna Stripers (Bel Air Arena or whatever) are some new ones. Wonder how they will hold up.

Gym owned teams fail because they make less money on their own team sponsor field rentals than they would if they rented them to the open public.

Two different teams and different reasons for their demise.

Koopers was sold. It was a going concern, and had teams across all viable age groups. There is a lot of M&A activity among youth sports teams. You can do some research and see there is significant consolidation of youth clubs across a number of sports, not just lacrosse.

Looney's failed as a result of poor leadership.

In neither case did it have anything to do with the bar/restaurant from which the team got its name.

Gym owned teams don’t work because the gym owners can’t keep out of the daily running / coaching of the individual teams. The guy that owns Coppermine is an arrogant laxer know it all who ruins his own programs.

Harsh, definitely harsh. Not sure what happened to the Coppermine boys program, whose players (I think 2026-2028) are almost all playing on AAA or Elite Hoco teams 3 years later........it seems....weird....that Coppermine couldn't make that work.

BUT

Isn't the Coppermine girls program one of the best in the country?

Is there still one more Looneys team in existence or has the entire Club disbanded?

I was told recently that there still is a 2024 team, but that is it. 2025 and 2026 both disbanded. There were no younger teams.

The demise of Loonies as an organization started a few years before KD leave up running it due to lack of leadership. He recognized he just wasn’t into it anymore and gave up the reigns to someone who didn’t have what it takes to reinvigorate it.
