The NCAA has officially extended the recruiting dead period through April 15, 2021. The announcement was made earlier Wednesday evening by Grace Calhoun, who’s the chair of the NCAA D1 Council:

This would mark just about a full year since the recruiting dead period started as the first announcement came during April of this year.

Before this announcement, the dead period was expected to be lifted on January 1st. That obviously isn’t going to happen now due to the spikes of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This impacts every team, but one would have to think this especially impacts teams with new coaches still trying to build future recruiting classes. Beyond that, this is an especially tough announcement for all the high school athletes trying to learn more and discover where they want to attend college.

It must be noted that just because the dead period has been extended does not mean that there cannot be any contact at all. Coaches and players can text, call, email, and communicate otherwise, they just cannot meet up in person.

We’ll have to see if the dead period is lifting next April but for now, all recruiting will have to be virtual.
