My daughters lacrosse team has over 25 girls and the coach allows his superstars to play 90% of the game while 15 othervgirls barely see and field time. Is this permissable?

There does not appear to be anything in the NYSPHSAA Handbook prohibiting that playing time allocation.

I have respect for coaches who keep their benches short just for this reason. When seniors graduate the coach pulls the amount that graduated from JV; no tryouts. They know who is leaving and they know who is going to replace them. This year we had a transfer and that player took a spot.

Keep the JV bench long and rotate players.

They just have to pass state standards test, BUT and a big BUT is your local school board policy overtake the state standards and they can block any child from playing JV or Varsity. "Alla" Garden City and Farmindale. Hope it that helped.

If you click-on the NYSPHSAA Handbook (link available at the start of this thread), the entire process is defined on Pages 56 through 79.

Pages 73/74 (Attachment J) contain the Girls Physical Test Requirements and Pages 75/76/77 (Attachment K) have the Boys Physical Test Requirements.

The elements of the physical tests for both genders include Shuttle Runs, Long Jump, Flexed Arm Hang, Stomach Curls, 50 Yard Dash, and finally, a 1.5 Mile Run.

For Varsity competition, girls must meet the following standards.

Shuttle Run : 10.5 seconds
Long Jump : 5 feet, 6 inches
Flexed Arm Hang : 15 seconds
Stomach Curls : 46
50 Yard Dash : 7.6 seconds
1.5 Mile Run : 15 minutes

For boys, the following standards apply.

Shuttle Run : 9.5 seconds
Long Jump : 7 feet, 3 inches
Flexed Arm Hang : 30 seconds
Stomach Curls : 50
50 Yard Dash : 6.5 seconds
1.5 Mile Run : 11 minutes

The Coach is playing the better kids in HS??

Is this a serious question? Good for the coach for not feeling pressure to treat a HS team like a PAL team!
