Close, Hawks vs 91 Fire score. MM cant get enough ringers to win a meaningful game. He should just play with the kids who pay club fees.

Boy, that chutzpah for you! The pot calling the kettle black. 2022 Hawks = ringers central.

There it is. Surprised it took all day. Hater

4 of the kids should be rising Seniors. The Culver kid is as old as many college freshman. So - 40% of the top 10 22s are reclassed/holdbacks. I’d bet the top 100 has a similar ratio. An average 21 makes a stud 22. Age based club lacrosse would stop this nonsense in its tracks.

No reason the birthdate shouldn’t be published their senior year. Most of the kids are 18 or 19, they are legally adults and have no more reasonable expectation of privacy as you or I.

well the birth month and years of the IL top 10 for 2022 were published. None 18. 3 turned 17 in summer or spring. The oldest from Culver turns 18 in oct. The other 6 are 16 as of Sept 1. I don;t think it's a big deal to have their birth months. Will break the myth that every kid in MD and DC is held back and that there are double holdbacks

My kid who is a freshman and now playing Division 1 ball just turned 18 2 months ago.... So a kid who is 2 grades below him is only 4 months younger. SAD.

In a few years you will be complaining about redshirts too. And the kid that could afford a PG. If a kid is good he is good. Period. Older kids have less upside and younger kids have more. Its all relative. Just go out and play. Stop worrying about the other kids, coaches, clubs etc. It doesn't matter and neither does your opinion, someone else opinion, or your club coaches opinion. The only opinion that matters is a college coaches. And more importantly than that, you should probably worry about raising your kid to be great not better than someone else lost.

Blame the NY clubs for this, they started bringing 91 down to beach lax when it was still rec teams competing. They started the grad year teams and then in typical NY fashion cried when others followed suit. NY schools are Jan -December, where most others are September- August, which is why they always claim to be younger.

The Tyler, lightening, [ChillLaxin] model worked just fine.

FYI for folks, the Maryland Lacrosse League is finalizing it's Baltimore Fall pickup league. Kids can register individually and will be placed on a team. Games are currently planned for Sunday afternoons in Canton.
Registration ends soon. Per the latest update, kids from the following schools have registered: Towson, Dulaney, Boys Latin, Calvert Hall, Gilman, Loyola, South Carroll

so the conclusion of this recruiting process - to be competitive you need to reclass, be in a private school, and be on a top club team; otherwise don't bother.

no, plenty of public school kids to to good lax colleges, they just has to work the recruiting process a little harder. public school kids don't typically reclass unless they actually get held back.

60% of this top 10 did not reclass, I believe 5/10 go to public school, 10/10 on top club. Will be interesting to see how these #s play out for the rest of the class

Stop complaining about playing against older kids. Repeat after me. Son, hit the wall for 30-60 min per day, Shoot for 45 min every day no matter what position you play except keeper. Speed, agility, explosiveness and endurance training 3-4 days per week. Intensive weight training 3-4 days per week. At least a 3.5 GPA in a well respected college preparatory track which means 3 hours of homework per night minimum, 1300 and up on your SAT which means 1-2 hours of SAT prep 6 days a week. Individual lessons with a position coach 2-3 days per week out of season. Join the most competitive club you can and get pushed in practice and in games. Don't play down, play up, Lastly, if you're one of those gifted athletes, play and excel at one or two other high school sports. I've seen all american lacrosse players play all types of complimentary sports: football, soccer and cross country in the Fall and basketball, wrestling and water polo in the Winter. Its about the will to work and to compete and excel.

The sad reality is that college coaches could care less about age and for the most part prefer older players. If these same holdback parents could somehow hold they child back again ( double holdback) and still play High School, majority would for the advantage.
Most lacrosse holdbacks are not held back for academics, no matter what is put out there,

Private schools feeding clubs are the drivers of this along with college coaches wanting older players.

Always told anyone that would listen, If you want to play D!, Hold them back, your chances are way better.

The executive function kicks in later with boys. Older is better. Anyone who's witnessed a young man's progression into adulthood can attest to that. Ask yourself a simple question: would you hire a kid fresh out of a great college or a young man who graduated from an academy and had 5 years of strong leadership and project experience. Unless its a quantitative only job, all else being equal, you would opt for the latter. Coaches are CEOs. They want highly productive players and men. Its about whats in their (the Lacrosse Program's) best interest not yours.

IL 4 star recruits out. Some 2002's. Really? Parents must be really proud of their 18 year old HS juniors. Good to see some 2004's on list though.

Yes, Talk about taking advantage of age . Kid was always older by a year to two years his youth career and in High School. Total in line with how youth sports should be. Giving advantage to some.

At the end of lacrosse Rainbow is a big pot of nothing. Except for a few D1 schools , the rest are relative easy to get into. Many of these holdbacks know they are gaming system . One day , they will realize and feel like a cheater in some ways and know what they did was not right. But what the heck, they got recruited and a got a communication degree.

I believe if you go to culver you have to do 3 years minimum.
Hence why a lot of kids reclass going there.

Kids in any system (grade or age based) can be a year older than the youngest kids (unless you plan on breaking down by 6 month groups). The September 02 kid would have been older than most kids in 2021 class, but would have been in the correct grade. So he is a single year holdback.

Being "technically" a single year holdback doesn't make the situation look better. It's lame unless the kid has a LD or some other academic or personal challenge going on (and maybe he does - no one else's business). Clearly, though, there is a pattern of holding back kids to gain a competitive advantage and at some point the practice becomes questionable.

My 2020 who is now a freshman at a top D1 lax program was born in 2002. Very hard worker and high level of natural ability, was able to stand out among older and bigger kids. My 2023 was born in 2005 and is undersized and a very late bloomer physically. We were relieved when he lost interest in travel lacrosse because we knew if he decided to pursue playing in college he would not be on the front end of recruitment for his class. He's also on a path academically to get his foot in the door that way and get more merit money than most lax scholarships are worth. The scales are tipped to favor the older kids, but things will work out for the younger kids if they have the grit and work ethic to stick with their goal of playing in college. Long term they are the bigger winners, having earned it honestly instead of gaming the system.

His proper year under the normal rules of every school district is 2021. He is now a 2022. Not sure where "technically" comes in to it.

There are current college freshman with summer/fall 2002 birthdays but yeah, let's justify being 18 almost entire junior year because only a single year holdback. Where does it end?

This definitely shouldn’t happen in club ball, and if a student is breaking the rules for high school, then parents should hold schools responsible. Contact news stations report it, they are always looking for news stories about privileged suburban kids and this hits the nail on the head.

Yes, it’s silly for sure. However, the schools don’t seem to enforce their own rules, it should be made public to shame the parents and schools/clubs who enable this to happen. Also will put US Lax in the hot seat.

We are talking about a kid who was held back one year. That doesn't violate any school or league rules. His is the most extreme age gap from a single year holdback, but merely because he was born in September.

The holdback world of lacrosse has grown out of its private school beginnings. The Private schools still have the majority of holdbacks and are growing even now, but many other areas have joined in. Pretty sad that majority see this as the way to get to college lacrosse. Frankly they are right to a certain extent.

My biggest objection is actually the way these holdbacks game the system in youth lacrosse. High School is still an advantage no matter what many say, but not nearly the advantage it is in youth ( 8th and below) . And you do have to compete after many have started to go thru puberty,

It’s how club teams survive and why no one cares how bad the teams are in 4th-6th grade. The holdback game usually begins summer into 7th. So you see big changes in strength and abilities of most elite teams who did nothing but struggle in 4th-6th grades. Gotta cheat to win in lacrosse. It’s nothing new, it’s not going to change, so do yourself a favor and jump on the bandwagon of acceptance or keep objecting and make yourself miserable.

Spallina played most of his youth as a 2020.Sunderland and Pietramala played on the same 2021 club, Petro not held back. Ohio goalie played 2021 resolute, Dwan 2021 green turtle. Most very good players stick with their age group peers or up until 8th grade. I think club should be age based until 8th grade. But what the grade based segmentation really does is group the kids by skill
