Reclassing is common in Founders and other leagues. Not a big deal and usually benefits the child getting into a better school which is the goal of most of the lax families at prep schools. No real $ in pro lacrosse anyway.

You can say what you want about re-class founders league accepts it and if your kid can dominate with older kids it only helps his recruitment . if you can get your kid in that league it is a no brainer it is where the best kids play . just look at each roster and how many DIV 1 studs they all have at any given time during a game there is at least 8 DIV 1 commits on the field

Just curious, what is the holding back cut off point? If you hold back 1 year and your kid is still are not a stud, how far back does it become super lost? 2,3.4 years? Of course their grades should be through the roof doing 8th grade over and over but is there a point where even the superdouche parents have a little pink polo shirt and kaki short angel over their shoulder saying OK, lets try golf.... lacrosse isn't working.

I think Deerfield was tops this Spring. Destroyed Salisbury in the indoor championship. The top grouping are all really good teams though.

I would love to see over a ten year or 20 year period the amount of money that a lacrosse team donates to a school after playing there. I have always felt that the number was high compared to other sports especially with 40-50 members on a team.

Hopefully not a trend. Unfortunately schools don't need lacrosse economically. They want it. I would love to see over a ten year or 20 year period the amount of money that a lacrosse team donates to a school after playing there. I have always felt that the number was high compared to other sports especially with 40-50 members on a team. Most AD's hail from football or basketball. Often weaker econmic families involved who don't give back unless they make NFL or NBA. They assume all athletes have same background.

Not all children are held back so dad feels better about himself. Some have learning disorders that need additional time to either develop executive skills or simply take longer to learn or figure school and athletics out. If parents have the means to send their child to a private school and get a better education why bash them? By the way, once in high school it doesn't matter how old you are as you can play as high as your ability and effort allow.

Ahead of Salisbury, Brunswick, Taft, AOF, TP? Maybe. They lost some strong attack from last year. Brunswick and Salisbury reload again. Taft has some crazy PG's
and Trinity-Pawling and AOF both recruited well. We'll see

There are some girls who reclass-usually repaeat between 7th-9th grade. Most common for Hockey but some lacrosse players do.

I have been on zoom calls with coaches since my son plays Founders League Football and I wasn't hearing much confidence in getting back to the normalcy of campus life let alone football. Thanks for the link. Hopefully there will be some sort of treatment available by spring so maybe we can have lacrosse. My son plays football too and I'm not sure Founders will have a fall season let alone winter with most ports indoors.

Doubt there will be football this fall in Founders. Maybe just workout or extra lacrosse practice? No reason to doubt bc that's going to be the reality. Schools are opening (late aug until thanksgiving) and the spring sports will be getting in A LOT of extra practice.

I hope the boys can play Football this fall but even our head lacrosse coach questioning if there will be fall tourneys or Football for that matter. Lots of extra reps for our laxers this fall. Should make for an interesting spring and summer.

You obviously have a super human child. Congratulations. Some kids are born with impairments and need an extra year to prepare for college or even high school. No one is getting rich from lacrosse. It can help a kid get into a school he/she might not have otherwise. Sorry if we want the best for our children.

I’m hearing that if fall sports are cancelled then FL will allow fall practices for lacrosse and possibly allow some inter league scrimmages in the fall.

That would be great! All we've heard so far is a decision will be made 2nd or 3rd week of July regarding competitive fall sports. I hope your source is accurate. Practicing football all fall with no games is crazy.

Why all of the Choate bashing? In 2019, they finished ranked above Deerfield in Inside Lacrosse. Next year, they have the best goalie in the Founders, a strong attack, good defense. It is not crazy to believe that good play will continue...

People have there alma maters and kids enrolled so everyone has a favorite. Choate will be fine this year. They just don't produce the quantity of D1 talent the rest of the top half of Founders does.

I stick by my original rankings. I think 5-7 especially are close but since Avon beet TP and Choate I put them 5 although TP did best Taft last season which muddies the water.

Brunswick, Salisbury and Deerfield usual top 3. 4-7 I'd understand if people want to interchange them as they are very close. Noticeable drop after Berkshire towards bottom. Let the arguments begin

Folks - you all sound crazy talking about results from Spring 2019 to draw insight for Spring 2021. All the impact players from the Spring 2019 teams are now long gone from these rosters/schools. Sure, the perennial powers will reload, but talk about Choate, TP, Avon winning or losing to each other 2 yrs ago is meaningless.

So true...we'll see what 2021 brings. As usual Brunswick, Salsibury, Deerfield, Taft get the top recruits. TP, Avon, Choate and to a lesser extent Berkshire get the next level players. Bottom third of the conference doesn't prioritize lacrosse recruiting as much.

I saw thy added Fakete. Solid coach don't know him as a person. Should be interesting. Most first year coaches there is a learning curve for players and coach. haven't heard much about their recruiting.

The first NHSLS session on 7/28-7/29 allowed 2020 graduates for all the teams. The 2nd session now on 7/30-7/31 only allows players that will still be students and playing this approaching season. So Deerfield’s squad for this current session doesn’t have those 2020 graduates. Slightly different squad.

Yeah, they all sent out a note about winter box in Glastonbury....clearly it is super high on the list of reopening protocols.
Let's see If I recall them all correctly:
1. 14 day quarantine upon arrival
2. single occupancy for all boarding students
3. new dining hall time slots
4. hybrid learning and socially distant classroom setting
5. develop plan for winter box lacrosse
I think that was the priority list for all prep schools. Next up, new design for lax uniforms.

Perhaps?!? They will get to practice in the fall. All schools doing fall sports practice for 4 days and students have the opportunity to work with their winter/spring teams for the other 2 days. As for Winter, everyone is home for Nov/Dec and part of January, so practice with your club. Pray there is spring sports....

Not sure why everyone kills Choate on this forum. Every year they have a strong squad. So maybe they aren't top 10 program in country each year but they are good. Send lots of players to top D3 and some D1. Trust me they are winning the big game, just not all the High School lax games.

Reality is until there are vaccines or viable treatments for covid AND 60-65% of the population gets the vaccine sports will be in jeopardy. Practicing lacrosse in fall is nice but it's a long way from playing a schedule in spring.

The odd contradiction though is that most of the players on these Prep teams played competitively all Summer. Most of them probably played in 15 - 25 games and had a lot of practices. All full contact, regular play.
And, while their schools won’t be playing sports this Fall, the club lacrosse will be happening.
Club lacrosse is the Wild West. Clubs are small business owners and want to deliver their product without having to give refunds and still collect checks. Send a simple waiver to parents and then everything goes forward like normal times. Kind of crazy, but that is the reality.
It’s like the twilight zone where there are 2 opposite worlds functioning at the same time and the students/players are operating in both.

I agree. Even if the kids are permitted to leave, it will be too difficult. Plus, I have heard that some of the boarding schools are guaranteeing more exposure than playing elsewhere.

Depends on the school/coach. Some recruit hard and some soft or not at all. For those that recruit hard, the coaches will be at many club events and showcases through the summer/fall. Some are affiliated with certain clubs or at least have relationships with clubs. These coaches will also look to be involved coaching UA teams, etc.

Our experience is when we decided to go the prep school route we contacted three schools. From there the schools did their homework speaking with HS and club cloaches as well as reference teammates and watched tape. Then the recruitment came in the form of the on-campus visit and how much financial aid each school would give based on their need at that position and wanting "last look" etc.,

Yes they do recruit or at least the top half of Founders League does. Recruitment is similar to college recruiting with exception being there are no "athletic" scholarships. Financial aid is need based/ how much the school wants your son for lacrosse.

They will absolutely give aid based purely on financial need. However if an athlete they want also needs financial aid and they have similar grades/activities/strong interview the athlete may get more depending on the school and the particular year.

The three school we were speaking with all seemed to have a formula to arrive at a data based needs figure. Each school came in within 10k of each other. From there they jockeyed to be the lowest (though in the end that was not the final consideration for us, we had made our decision). Frankly, I was surprised how much aid we were awarded given our family's financial profile. I was shocked actually. I expected nothing based on my tax receipts and final tuition was 1/3 the published tuition. Choate, Deerfield and Avon have HUGE endowments.

Congratulations! All 3 are great schools. Fortunately all the Founders League Schools are much more generous than a typical private secondary school or even a university. Does your son pla sports or is he talented in academics/arts? Private schools look for exceptionally talented students which doesn't always translate in athletics. Often the arts/academia also make an applicant desirable.

Why would a Prep School coach play kids based dependent on which club team they play for? Look at any strong Founders league roster and you'll see clubs represented. They play kids with goal of winning as well as developing the program.

If the fall/winter hits as many are predicting the coaches are slightly pessimistic about a season. I can tell you that my son has NOT been able to leave campus and wont be able to for 10 weeks. If a student does they must quarantine for 2 weeks at home and get tested before returning. If these policies and procedures are in place and the numbers are still going up I don't see how they play lacrosse. I realize March/April is 6 months away but I can only tell you the whispers. The schools care about not refunding some $$ and staying open so if a second wave hits - the travel to and from other schools may not happen. Again these are all just whispers which I hope are wrong AND this pandemic ends soon. But then again if you were to ask me back in March if schools would have had a lockdown in the fall and no sports I would have thought you were be a little silly!

There is no max on reclassed players. There is a max on PG players. For football the number is 8, so I can't imagine it is any greater than that.

My son goes to TP and they are not allowed of campus if boarding. Day students are not allowed to play fall club ball. I don't think there will be winter Basketball/wrestling based on the precautions in place now for fall ball which is all outdoors so while my son desperately wants spring ball after last year being cancelled I too have real doubts they will play games this spring.

Nothing wrong with construction, just that Prep did nothing as per the statement that it's worth every penny spent.

I have friends that went to colleges not listed on anyone's top 50's that own their own companies or are highly successful on Wall Street. I don't think anyone is going to argue that success is automatic if you go to an elite prep school or college, NOTHING is. Conversely, that you are doomed if you do not go to a highly regarded college. I think most rationale people would agree elite prep school to elite college is going to open up more opportunities initially out of school. From that point on its on the person and the degrees are for the most part office decorations, though there certainly are stronger networking channels afforded due to association. If you disagree with any of the above, well you need to get out a little more and see the world.

Prep Schools are great for cultivating friendships and networking as well as forming better study habits. However the same can be done in a solid public school. The difference is some universities would rather accept a student from a prep school vs public as they generally are tougher academically. Any decent college coach will tell you they look at Founders league first before almost every public school except a few powerhouses to recruit. Kids are generally older and more mature.

Yes, of course Its not of course. its more like do it at your own discretion but we prefer that you didn't. Just had a zoom meeting as we are heading into the break - where that exact question was asked of the administration. The question was asked about sports in general. The response was basically while we cant tell you what to do at home, you signed a social contract, there are rules in place depending upon where you live re gatherings, you will be coming back and will have to quarantine 2 weeks before return., etc . . .So while kids can play with their local teams its not being done with the blessings of the administration and I gathered they would preferred that you did not.

Not mentioning schools but I know from my son at his school that they are doing everything to try to at least schedule Founders League games since last season was lost. They are trying hard for all the spring sports otherwise unlike other sports they will have missed 2 seasons. As for winter - no lacrosse at all from the school. The captains have said some lax being run by the team but this is in addition to whatever else you are scheduled to do. Lax isn't an organized option run by the coach. I know my son will be playing basketball and then go to whatever the captains schedule. This is in addition to trying to hit the gym and getting good grades.

Not saying kids can't excel on and off the field in the Public Schools. My son went to one of the best on LI athletically and academically and is now at a Prep School and the talent on the field and in the class room and the whole overall experience has been really eye opening. Agreed values begin in the house, but you are throwing jabs in the dark if you have not seen or experienced what prep schools have to offer.

Founders League and others offer amazing teaching as well as life experiences and athletic competition. My son is a boarder this year at a prep school and the academics are much more difficult than a solid CT public school. So are the athletics. No comparison.

There shouldn’t be a comparison. Public school is paid for with your annual taxes. Private schools can cost about 35 grand or so per year. So for 140 grand extra to attend high school( not college) you should get better academics and better athletics. This is common sense, wouldn’t you agree.

Not necessarily. Yes my son has loved both the academic and athletic challenges at a Founders school but we have friends who haven;t had the same experience we have so far. Granted that probably has more to do with the student/school not being a great fit but just goes to show that a higher price doesn't always mean a better outcome or better product.

You get what you pay for. My nephew goes to a boarding school. My brother and his wife, make silly money. Tuition is a drop in the bucket. The school is insane. The facility, the academics, the sports, the food, even the moms who drop the kids off are extra hot. The whole experience is great. Unfortunately with 3 kids, colleges, probably grad school too, prep school would be a tough financial pill to swallow.

I mean boarding schools, not local day or Catholic schools. Though those places also are full of kids from rich towns. Top prep schools are excellent and provide an amazing experience not public HS can touch. But most aren't any better than a decent public HS. I'd say 90% of preps offer nothing better than a Bronxville, Scarsdale, Pleasantville etc can offer in terms of academics. But this is about lax. Prep schools have completely ramped up their devotion to sports, though, and recruiting mixed with facilities means they are just like college sports these days. Preps have holdbacks, college connections, and are surging in lacrosse, especially in the Northeast.

My son was an excellent player in a very good Fairfield county school system that wasn't thriving for a number of valid reasons. I was someone that never would have considered boarding school but for him specifically it not only made a ton of sense but it made all the difference in the world. I don't know if the teachers were any better than what he had in public school, but his grades got much better. Add to that the Founders lax experience is at least a level above FCIAC. Most importantly, he not only loved it but he developed a maturity and self-reliance that made transitioning to college a non-event. Every kid and situation will be different, but from my perspective going away to boarding school was the best thing that could have happened to him.

So the big question is ... does lacrosse happen at prep schools in 2021? Seeing as how they model themselves after the Ivy and NESCAC, who both just cancelled their entire winter sports season, it seems doubtful lacrosse happens.

Too early to tell. I suspect there will be some sort of "hodge podge" season based around testing rates and covid policies. Figure a few "scrimmages" and maybe a couple of actual games very late in the school year as vaccination programs gain steam.

As vaccines become more prevalent we may get a condensed later spring Founders season. Since mens lacrosse is designated a moderate risk covid sport I think there will be a shortened season towards the end of the school year.

Unfortunately this is NOT correct - Mens' Lacrosse is still designated a high risk sport by the High School Governing body - NFHSS. Only the NCAA has reclassified Men's Lacrosse as medium risk. If you want this to change, better sign a petition or write a letter to your Governor.

There will be a shortened season but depends which school you root for. It will be difficult for day schools to schedule games. If boarding schools in a close proximity to each other can agree on testing protocols it can happen.

What does anyone think? Taft number 1 seems to be the one easy one. 2-5 could be interchangeable with TP possible part of the group as well. All have D! top 20 commits. One difference will be the Faceoff and I think Taft, Deerfield and Avon have the best at the position. As to actually having playing, that is a concern. I am a parent of one the bottom 7 and the talk is what someone else noted - some games, some scrimmages but not a true season with playoffs etc . . Also was noted the problem with crossing state lines and different rules. Its all a clusterf . . . .
