What's with Empire results, only 16 boys? Is that all that tried out?

Start looking at plan B, especially if the H.S. team is weak.

Express CoachC cut their roster for AA. Did not invite some players back so they could focus on getting the right players recruited.

Well, it should been that way for a very long time! Unfair to all but Coach C. Don't take a player if you are not willing to play them? Where did the player's go?

I don't know why any kid would want to be on a team where he doesn't play and why any parent would pay for their kid to have that experience. You don't have fun or get any better by sitting on the bench and based on what I've seen of the Coach C 2022 team over the past year or two it looks like more than a few had that experience. So now these kids that have been cut will either be put on other Express teams or find new clubs, but will have lost 1-2 years worth of summer fun and skill development in the process. Can't blame it all on Coach C.

I don't know how many people have noticed but their is a new trend going on! As we all know 2022 is probably the most talented year to date! But I guess the high school coaches are tired of playing second fiddle to the kids travel teams or to cash in on the strong island green! Starting their own clubs or town travel teams! But beware, they will take the best kids from the first year tryouts to establish the club, then dump the out of town kids for their own school kids! These coaches are much worse for the sport then the travel team mafia!

Correct.....Parents with deep pockets and/or overzealous big mouths are to blame. Say what you want about Coach C but I sure he told them they would not play.

Coach C has a huge role in this too, he should have done the right thing by these kids. Instead, he lined his pockets. He created the opportunity and situation for the parents to make the wrong choice. If he did the right thing, he could have had a very good B team (ex. United, Igloo) over the years. But he could care less and put zero effort into the money making B,C ,D teams he has had over the years.

I do disagree about player development though, the lower half of Coach C's team had almost year round practice and those players got to practice with extremely talent players. And if you have ever been to the practices, they are high level, high energy, well organized practices. These players received 3 times the coaching time, practices, scrimmages and tourneys than the B,C,D teams did for the same tuition.

Agreed about practices. However, the kid has to play...for game situation experience, exposure if they want to get recruited, and most importantly for the fun of it and confidence factors. Nevermind getting your moneys worth travelling to Maryland and actually watching them play!!!

The kid can get great practices on the travel club, and then start on their high school team and go to showcases with their high school team. The high school coach will promote the kid more than the club.

Vast majority of players get recruited from club not high school teams. Unless you kid is playing in the top 15 high schools in the nation, club is their best opportunity.

Hard to imagine that the kid would make the decision to sacrifice playing so that he can practice with a AA team. Just doesn;t sound like something that would come out of a 15 year old......a 30+ father yes, 15 no.

Not true. I've seen our varsity coach help a lot of kids in our school district get into top D1 and D3 schools. We're not top 15 in the country.

If by reading all this negative garbage you can’t see the problem, you’re probably a big part of it.

Agreed. Pathetic that of the three things listed, recruiting was what was talked about and nothing about the fun and confidence building of the kid. Confidence carries across all aspects of life. Where they played....after they graduated college....eh. pathetic.

Yes.....we should ban the talk about any recruiting of any kind, by anyone on a lacrosse forum thread dedicated to the most important recruiting year of a lacrosse players career. OK got it.

If your son is good enough it is the college coaches job to find them. Summer travel is a joke but is used to compete and develop. If you are not on a top team maybe your organization gets into a few tournaments where college coaches attend and your son is seen. I have been here and navigated the process( 3 sport athlete going to top 3 college team in country).
Go to college prospect camps
Under armour tryouts - making team is political but tryout is the exposure ( top 50 main field is goal)
Nassau/suffolk hs tryout is cheap and great exposure-
If this is what your son wants he will find a home, Like earlier poster said enjoy the moment not the recruitment. Time flys

Question? If you missed tryouts for travel what are the chances of getting your kid on a team from now untail spring?

You can still make a team. Not sure where you reside but the LI Outlaws are holding supplemental tryouts still while others just passed but more than likely, they have openings. You should email BOTC as they would know which teams are still looking for spots.

You are kidding yourself if you think it is for the worse. or a travel coach director!

The best travel teams have HS coaches for directors and coaches.

These players received 3 times the coaching time, practices, scrimmages and tourneys than the B,C,D teams did for the same tuition.

I have been on the other side of this. My son was a very good but not great player. He was on the top for a bit, then came word he was top team worthy and could have been on the team but wouldnt see much playing time. If I am the only one that happened to then he will know who I am. But Id be hard pressed that I was the only one. I was even told if my son went on the second team it would be a strong team and he would get lots of playing time. My/our egos had us leaving for another start up (not a bad move for us) and played for him at SA. My kid loves him and when he sees him actually gets a handshake and hug from the germaphobe (rare - I may have tipped my hand).

I know a few others players this had also happen to through the years. It hurts but dont blame C. He is strange bird but who isnt and again my kid loved him. That is what matters.

Open your minds and eyes you may see differently.

I like the HS coach trying to gather players to play this is good when you have a good core if not it may not work. It also may not work if your school did have any noteworthy players or HS coach has to have a connect to the college coaches and coaches in their division. Some of the older HS coaches have gotta go and put themselves out there and go to these coaches clinics and be seen and heard. or just get out of the way and let the new guy come in.

That's fine if you have a good lax program in your school but if your have a poor program especially out on the east end then we rely a lot on travel! So it's like making a deal with the devil! All directors of travel clubs are liars, cheats and theives! But the worst one are the school coaches that hide behind that ( I'm your school coach johnny and I'll do the right thing for you and the team)!

No doubt that unless you either attend (usually by invite) to the most highly reputable individual showcases, that there is where you your child will get greater exposure. But at the same time, coaches all talk and have a pretty good consensus of the 'elite' players out there which is typically seen on the club market. Unless you play at a perennial power HS program like Garden City, those few players will then get seen at the County Finals, Long Island Championships & then States bc they are no longer attending regular season games....way more efficient for the coaches vs seeing 1-3 d1 prospects at a HS game.

Back to club, you don't have to play for Legacy, Express, etc to be seen - i know that 365 Lax has recruiting teams as does the Sting & Sweetlax 6and they offer the option to play in 1-4 invite only/highly reputable team showcases so you can play on a club team or not and can play it they invite/select you. But you have to be proactive and do indiv showcases/prospect days and not play on a school team IF you are looking to get recruited [at the D1 level] and i am pro town teams so they can build chemistry & cohesiveness for their upcoming season, just not for recruiting...too much disparity in merit and lack of wttending the 'top' team showcases.

Lastly, for those thinking these HS coaches being greedy doing their own team, they can make as much coaching as a lotnof these clubs offer HS coaches with good traction good salaries. At the end of the day, they are pproviding a service and hopefully do have the players best interest. And not all directors/owners are thieves - some over priced for sure snd hsbe 3+ teams at every age without bscking it with the appropriate staff but I've had experiences with a bunch and some really do care....do your homework & dont continue supporting the bad ones bc of the misconception you wont get recruited without them.

Hope this helps some out there. This is just my opinion based on my experience.

Real Question - I have been getting a bunch of emails about College Prospect Camps, for parents that have gone through this before is this a good way to be really seen by those coach's or is it just another money grab? Thanks.

Prospect days are a money maker. If its a school your son likes, and is withing his reach athletically and academically, then go.

Only if you are an extremely talented player from a non-hotbed area/program. If you are an extremely talented player in a hotbed area that plays with a well known program and interested in their school, then they know who you are. In any case, none of it matter unless you are a standout talent/athlete. It is rare that someone gets recruited for a decent D1 program out of their prospect camp or as a result of what they do there.

Only if you are an extremely talented player from a non-hotbed area/program. If you are an extremely talented player in a hotbed area that plays with a well known program and interested in their school, then they know who you are. In any case, none of it matter unless you are a standout talent/athlete. It is rare that someone gets recruited for a decent D1 program out of their prospect camp or as a result of what they do there.

mmm, my son was recruited from a prospect camp. The coach liked him, he had very good grades and then the staff saw him play again at a showcase.

Really, College coaches know the 2022 athletes? Besides the few top players from 91/Express/St A/Cham how would they know them at this point? I been to tournaments this past summer and as soon as the 2022 take the field the coach's pack up and leave.
