Wow ! All this vitriol about a new team this year, while an older more established team at this age falls apart.

Why do you think older teams are falling apart? Wouldn't it make sense to stay on a team with chemistry going into high school?

Thanks Dad. Those kids are not needed at S2S. There were better kids at tryouts.

You sound pathetic. How is your boy going to look when he comes back to the Igloo huddle knowing he tried to get away from his team?

There were helmets from Igloo, 91, Icon, Rebels, FLG, and Express, and few random helmets at S2S. People leave organizations for many reasons. These organizations aren’t loyal so why do parents have to be? If you aren’t happy where you play find a better fit. Be realistic though about why you are leaving and that you are getting what you want with a new team. Big commitment (time and $$) to not be satisfied. If they decide to go back to their original team the organization will happily cash their check. Hopefully you aren’t the parent who will make them feel
Like an outcast.

Is it Groundhog Day? You said the same thing after mass exodus last year. AA must be bleeding money at 2023. I guess as long as you keep 10 players they'll be ok.

I just saw this new post in the Maryland 2023 forum. Is this a joke?

"Reclassing help needed! How do I go about reclassing my 2023? He is a solid player and could be dominant with another year under his belt. My issue is he is currently an excellent student in advanced classes. Is it possible for him to be classed 2024 while taking predominantly 2023 classes? I want him to get ahead in lacrosse, but not go backwards in key academic subjects. What schools should we talk to?"

being a parent of a child who didn't make an "A" team we are looking for options of the next tier lax club. not looking to go to a "B" team from the big lax clubs because I've seen that those teams seem to struggle. I'm not coming on here looking to stir the pot or put down lax clubs. I know its a lil late but looking for best options for my child. thanks and please no negativity

Maybe your kid isn’t an A player. Nothing wrong with that. Find a team that your kid will get a lot of playing time. Get over the label. You need to check out supplemental tryouts at this point.

My advice, don’t dismiss playing for a “B” team as some of them areas good or better than “A” teams. At this age it’s almost impossible to break into an A team unless your kids a stud or you are okay for him to be a 6th attack or 3rd line middie. What you really want is your son to see the field and work on his own to get better. If your sons goal is to play lacrosse in college then the team he plays for will only help if he’s actually on the field. There are hundreds of players from B teams that go on to play in college. uSW57w

Express has now added a Supplemental tryout so obviously they're not happy with the makeup of their teams

Is this a general statement or specific to 2023? Express has not lost anyone they wanted to keep and, along with the Bandits, continues to dominate this age group on Long Island and nationally. They won the last NLF tournament up at UMass breat some of the best teams in the country (Laxachusetts Black, Madlax and Crabs to name a few) so what do you know that makes you feel they "obviously" are not happy with the team?

Don't take this the wrong but; does he really want to play? Remember, if someone really wants something, they will find a way, if they don't they will find excuses... Additionally, lacrosse is not the answer to all things, if need be, move on to bigger and better things.

That's just an ignorant statement and the person wasn't asking for your sage advice on whether or not his son should continue with lacrosse or not. The parent was asking for options. Give practical advice and leave the parenting to the parent. The arrogance you display is beyond words and maybe the parent and/or the kid just wants to be involved with lacrosse and has no further aspirations beyond travel and highschool. Get off your soap box and give practical advice or shut up.

Sounds like a nerve was hit there Pops! Kid was with an organization (B team) for a couple of years, wanted to move up to the A team, it didn't happen. Now, you come on here looking for so called B team options. Be real, and now you're upset about what someone posted on this forum...Go surf the web and find a small organization B team. Not looking to stir the pot...

You are missing the point. The person was asking for advice on different programs and not on whether or not his kid still wanted to play. I am sure you meant no harm but stay you should either provide that advice or not comment. These forums digress because people like to interject their own thoughts instead of responding to a question or providing appropriate advice.

Don't listen to this BadPerson. As a 9th grader your kid has plenty of time to get better at lacrosse. Look for a team where he will get playing time and practice minutes. You should see in tryouts where he stands amongst the other players. The end game is for your son to have fun by actually getting playing time and be the best player he can be by 12th grade. Also stay away from teams with daddy coaches who fill up 3 or 4 spots while the other 20+ players fight over 6 spots.

Maybe the kid isn't A caliber. It's the parents asking, who knows what the kid really wants. So go figure...

Bandits & Express are two very good teams & are the only 'A' teams for this age bracket from L I.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Still Igloo and S2S after those two everyone else is basically the same. TB, Warriors, Rebels, Turtles they can play each other 10 times and split 5 each.

I'd say Igloo next in order if they kept all the kids.

Igloo lost a few starters and gained a few, but upgraded the Coaches ranks in a BIG way. Out with the daddy coaches and in with Steve Fannell

With you obvious lack of common knowledge of the Bandits roster, I would suggest you don’t try and speak for them as well. #holdbackcity

At this age it has nothing to do with being on the best team and everything to do with being on the right team. Playing time is the goal. Can get recruited at a role player.

Kids are leaving because of playing time at the "A" clubs, it has nothing to do with getting recruited to any top 10 D1 school. The owners of these clubs are a bunch of blow holes and will NOT get your kid recruited. My son is on a high level college team and the grades as well as showcases got him in.

Recommendations please for any 2023 clubs that still have open spots?
My son is relatively new lacrosse player but a good athlete (football/basketball). He played middle school lacrosse as a midfielder and had some success and really enjoyed it. He would like to play travel for the first time this year. I understand I’m late to the game but are any clubs considering supplemental tryouts?
Thanks for any leads.

Don't you need the owners/coaches recommendation to get invited to most of the good showcases? For instance, Maverick isn't a tryout, that's an invite you get off the rec of club owners. Also, the Under Armour showcase, the coaches making the selections are also coaching 2023 teams so clearly there will be a bias towards that club. The club landscape is a total racquet but part of the reason they wield so much power and drive all of us crazy is because they are the gatekeepers for recruiting.

There are more individual and prospect showcase/camps than an "invite only" showcase. You don't have to hang your son's college playing experience on a club coach.

save your money. showcases are complete money grabs. pick 4-5 schools that interest your child and attend there prospect days. if they reach out to your high school coach then you know there is interest. if head coach grabs your Childs ear after prospect day then you know there really interested in your child. best of luck and enjoy the ride

Someone should jump all over this opportunity. I was talking to a friend this morning at school practice for another sport and he was saying how his son who first played lacrosse last spring in middle school loves lacrosse now. There should be clinics/camps for this age and older for kids/athletes who have just found lacrosse. Most clinics I see are for younger kids however I think there is a market for new older kids leaving other sports to play lacrosse. There is a FLG ad that keeps showing up on my facebook that has kids going around cones and stuff but its for 8th grade and younger. I guarantee there would be a market for basic lacrosse skills for 9th graders and older.

Queue the comments now on how its too late to start lacrosse at 9th grade. Please don't bother as coaches want to see athletes at any age instead of the non athlete with great stick skills from 8 years of club lacrosse.

I agree. We'll start seeing the late bloomers catching up and surpassing the early studs. Someone could make a fortune starting training specific clinics for High Schoolers. Advanced IQ, dodging-feeding, tricks, etc

It's a niche market and not enough opportunity to make a profit especially as it would be 1-2 players across many towns and these kids parents are probably not as nuts as we all have been for x number of years with the traveling. If the kids a great athlete then he will pick up the sport fairly quickly.

If your son is a really good athlete then find a solid B team so that he can get playing time and the coaches play everyone a bit more evenly. Having he stick in his hand in practice and, more important, games will is critical and he may not get as many touches if he were to be put on an A team. If he is a freak athlete then maybe but let's assume he is a great athlete for your purpose. Try contacting Igloo, S2S or Express who all operate in/around the area you live. Tryouts are over so they will likely invite you to attend one of their practices to see how good / what potential your son has. Good luck.

How much are you charging him for all that space he’s renting in your head? On a serious note, cowardice is an ugly personality trait. I’ve learned more about you than I have about him from your posts.

From what I heard, was a 2023 team that did poorly last year. They dropped some dead weight, but were unable to pick up better 2023's so they are looking to pick up 2022's and play in the JV brackets. Unless they get some decent 22's, they are gonna get smoked gain this year. However the NCC headcoach has come onboard to right the ship.

From friends. It’s not public, but I guess this is the times because players aren’t getting enough from their clubs.

To the guy saying the Bandits were all on "WSYL age", are you joking??? LOL!! That was two seasons ago! In the last two years, they've picked up 6-7 holdbacks from 3 different states! That's why 6-7 kids that have been on that team for years had to quit. Express has holdbacks too, but not as many and they're not nearly as good. No one is beating that "National" team.

Explain the NLF Championship results. Save the "not all the kids were there" excuse.

Too young for 2023. You have a good year before you need to do anything from a recruiting perspective. Colleges are on the very tail end of the 2020 and in deep with the 2021. They will be looking at the 2022 this Fall and ramp up in the summer ahead of September of next year. No reason to so anything significant recruiting wise for 2023 because the colleges are actually happy about the new rules as it allows them to look at the boys closer to their full size and pretty much after every boy has done most of their growing.

As for recruiting services, some are better than others but many of them do the similar things. Give you a venue to put your profile such as grades, video, etc. and allow you to email coaches. My personal view is it is better to email the coach using your own email than through the recruiting service and you can pretty easily get all the college coaches contacts via the college team website.

Not worth the money at all. The information is all available for free. Coaches do not hide email addresses. the only teams that will contact you are ones that really will take almost any player.

You actually need as site to store videos, news, grades, etc. These companies help manage it all in one place for you where a coach can get a glimpse of your background. I highly recommend it.

It is easy to have everything in one place. Our club pays for a site for all of the girls to use. I just posted my daughter's highlight videos to Youtube and link them there. If the club didn't pay for the site, I'm not sure I'd pay on my own - she just includes a link to the youtube video in her emails to coaches.

Agree with the poster above there are far cheaper places to create and store a profile than NCSA. The will also claim to give you a recruiting coordinator that does nothing. Also you will get bombarded from programs that you will most likely have zero interest in. Grand Canyon, Beloit, Uof Dallas. There are many sites that are free or close to free that do the same thing. Key is to target the schools that your son is interested in and have HIM sent the emails and video. Also attend the prospect days. No need to waste money on NCSA.

True. Some kids had to go play on teams from other states because of the new additions to the Bandits. Kids are trying to keep up with the national presence.

Kids get sold a bag of goods and then don't get the playing time they want. If they want to go drive down the Jersey Pike, then let them. They'll have plenty of time on the field and in the car. To each his own.

This age is always fun. Some kids are men and some are still boys. There is the disparity talent. Puberty will quite often win summer tournaments

Believe these are major money grabs but it does matter who your club coach is and what type of college connections they have to get your son noticed

You don't need a service to accomplish what they already do. The only reason someone would want it is to have a direct connection to the college coaches which none of them do. Every school has a lacrosse page with all the coaches information. A few schools may not give phone numbers but most will have emails. When you email a coach share video which you can do through a youtube link so no need to store on a service and make sure to tell them what club / HS team you play for, where you will be, when you will be there. You should give your grades and, too early, but standardized test scores if you are satisfied with the grade. When you get close to a tournament, showcase or prospect day, make sure to email the coach again and give them your jersey number and schedule of you have it. The easier you make it for them to find you the better chance you have them to see you. It does help to have a club or HS coach that is connected and respected and doesn't advocate in a bias manner. What I mean is some kids are good enough to play at Duke and others are not. There is a school for everyone, especially if you are playing high level lacrosse, but your coach shouldn't contact Duke if your son is not good enough. He loses credibility for the next kid he recommends.

All this is way too soon anyway as the boys have a good year to get bigger, better and stronger before it will really matter for this age group. You will be surprised how much some of the smaller kids catch up in a year. Much more fun to watch.

Look at the team now. Probably 3 starters from 2 years ago. Many of their long time players replaced by big fast kids; some from Smash, but many from out of state. Most of them holdbacks.

Well we have practiced a few times and this is false but keep convincing yourself this so you have a built in excuse Just play and realize it does not matter who has the best team they are approaching their recruiting years. Its about playing

Ouch, what a sting for Rebels getting beat twice by a "B" team in their own tournament this weekend. They had no room to rig any schedule.

No sting at all. Hard fought games. Fall is about assessing what you have and seeing what to focus on, going forward. Glad you’re so interested in their progress - I’m sure you’ll keep us posted with your astute analytics.

You are a troll and you are looking to get a rise out of people so will post the same thing on multiple threads to achieve that goal. As for the 2023 bracket, I am sure there at least 80-100 set of parents that would disagree with your assessment their son is a B player. it is long understood a player can be as good as another player on a AA team but is not on that team for a number of reasons such as geographic or because that player wants to be on a 1st midfield and not the second midfield line or even politics. Regardless, the competition was good and shame on you for saying the Patriots, Express, 91 Warriors and Rebels do not have very good players on their roster. I can almost guarantee your kid is not a top player on one of the AA teams you imply as those parents would never stoop to your level. They would prefer their son speak through his play. If he knew the bull____ you say on these forums he would be embarrassed. That day will come but see if you can eke out a few more years where he isn't rolling his eyes after you speak.

If you were there you would know that our boys played very well. They worked hard and they got better. That's all that matters. And the Warriors are better than most A teams in the grade level anyway. What team does your son play for? I'm sorry he didn't make the Rebels, but tell him no to be discouraged and keep trying!

Based on your emotional outburst let's call your tourney a "AAA" tourney to keep you delusional.

I truly don't care what you call the tournament. Big picture, since you are so focused on bashing rebels, it is likely your son is not as good as you think he is and many of the kids that played in the tournament are better than your son. Don't blame your son as it is your fault you want him on a AA team where he doesn't get much playing time. Keep telling yourself it's great training and playing in the game is not that important. That will help you sleep at night.

Elite Invitational, Fall Classic, NLF will be the top tourneys of the fall, but that shouldn't mean teams cant do others. Some teams only play in one fall tournament. The more competitive teams play in 3, but then again, Fall tourneys are just a way to keep the kids interested and working in the off-season. They don't mean anything.

None of the tourneys mean anything. They are 9th graders. Let them have some fun and give the parents something for their money. Give some playing time to the express team with 4 goalies.

It was a waste of time for the Warriors. They were well beyond the best team. That wasn’t a real “A”bracket and the “B” bracket was barely a C level. The tournament has gone down hill.

Never a waste of time when boys are outside playing lacrosse all day. I don't care which team it was. Best team or the worst, kids learned something. The only ones that wasted the day were the kids on their phones or playing video games all day.

Never a waste of time when boys are outside playing lacrosse all day. I don't care which team it was. Best team or the worst, kids learned something. The only ones that wasted the day were the kids on their phones or playing video games all day.
AGREED.. the NLF is not all its cracked up to be anyway.. 91 runs the tourney. MONEY GRAB.

I'm not going that far. The NLF tournaments tend to bring in some of the toughest competition around. Maybe not all of the best teams (S2S and Igloo are not invited, so they come to mind), but there are generally no weak teams. I think those tournaments are great. Fall Classic and Elite Invitation are also two fall tourneys that bring many highly competitive clubs together. But that doesn't mean that any of the other tournaments are a waste of time by any means. As long as the boys are outside working on their craft, seeing what other clubs/players are doing, and trying new things, then the experience is a valuable one. I think tourneys are important to the boys. Practice can get monotonous and tourneys are a great bonding experience for the team. The tailgate/tents, the food, the music, the kids joking between games; all of these make it fun.

NLF much better. Sorry to blatantly point it out to you.

LOL

4 goalies on 1 team???? Why????

Incredible that any LI team wouldn't have their kids attend the Elite 80. By far the best coaches in the country attend.

College coaches are focused on the 2021's and filling the rosters for that class. No one is looking to recruit any 2023's.

That's a negative Ghostrider. That's 11/17 and it's an Aloha tourney. Not even top Md. clubs go to those.

Actively recruiting 21's not doubt, but it never hurts for a good player to be seen by so many coaches here on LI. At some point next year every team in this class will be clamoring to get in front of this same group up and down the Jersey Trpk.

Is it true the Igloo Elite 80 has 8 attack per team for 2023? Wasn’t it promised to be 4? Sounds like a bait and switch.

The Elite 80 isn't for everyone. It looks like there are half the team than the '22 session with 4 attack per team. If your son isn't good enough or interested in going to MD, Ohio St, Duke, Hofstra, Mich, Denver, Penn St, Gtown, Princenton, Navy, Cuse, Harvard, Hopkins, UNC, Nova, UVA, Rutgers, Farifield, or Cornell its probably a good miss.

Naw man. There’s 8 attack on the 2023 teams. Ridiculous. Can promise all the college coaches you want. But when you get 5 mins of playing time in a 30 min game. How’s that worth $450 bucks? Oh, and you were promised no more than 4 attack per team. I assume people will ask credit card for $$ back.

Ha you got duped. They were actively recruiting for kids a week ago. If it was that good would have been sold out months ago. They need a ton of kids to pay for these big Names to attend. They also have to turn a profit. 2023’s should not be doing showcases, they are not looking at you and your the showcases profitability bracket. Even the famed showtime is a waste of your money at this age, few years ago was different.

Nobody is going to disagree that Elite 80 pulls the best college coaches in the country to attend the event but the point of all showcases is to be seen and playing roughly 10 minutes if you are an attack player just stinks. Showcases are hit or miss to begin with depending on whether or not you have a good fogo and can possess the ball on offense. Couple that with limited playing time and it is a losing combination. The one upside is you can get your son used to the intensity of prospect days and showcase events which can be daunting but not for approx. 30 minutes over three games for $495. That's roughly $16.50 per minute of time.

I agree with that. But if AA promises only 4 attack on a team and then takes 8 attack are we as a community just supposed to say, “ you got screwed too bad”? Or should there be consequences for people like that who take advantage of fellow parents?

Wait are you saying 8 attackmen for 4 teams ? That is 32 attackmen? How many kids are on one team?

Their best player is the one who attended the Elite 80. May have to add he's probably smartest on the team as well going to the event while the rest of the players skipped out.

LOL. That Express team has 5 boys who on any given day could be considered the best. There is no single player on that team who is head and shoulders above everyone else. That said, judging by the ego, this is clearly the dad of the ex PT player.

I don't think the real elite players skipped out, LI HS sports were still playing games on Saturday, either Football and Soccer seasons had games. Big mistake by Igloo to not check with the HS schedules for 2023s, should avoid Saturdays in the fall, by the way the 2022 also had PSAT or SATs. My advice IGLOO CHECK THE SCHEDULES -- put it on a Sunday.

The head coaches are just collecting their 5k-6k checks plus travel expenses and are not 'recruiting' anybody from this event.

Any event that is selling a showcase to 2023's. Anyone that thinks their son is being recruited by any coach in 9th grade is far too gullible. But in this instance, Igloo Elite 80.

Although they aren’t “recruiting them”, they sure as heck are evaluations them. The better player at this age will only benefit from making a positive impression sooner than the field.

Thank you for pointing out it is always good to make a positive impression. Colleges are not interested in this age group as a whole. Sure, they may look at a few studs and keep tabs on them but the other 98% have time to develop physically and mentally. That is the beauty of the not so new rules. There are still plenty of freshman that are 5'5'-5'8" that are solid players but cannot compare to that kid that has been 6" for the past year. Mark my words, by 10th grade, most of them catch up and then it becomes interesting and fun. There will always be those studs that are either naturally great or work their buts off to become great. They will get recruited first and rightfully so but for the rest of our sons, enjoy the next year because the real work begins next Fall.

What were they thinking making the brackets today for the tournament. The bandit bracket has like 10 teams in it. True national playing turtles, rebels and express 9th team. Why wouldn’t they be playing in bandit And west coast bracket. Is this like the Dukes, play in a weak division to blow out teams for
Marketing purposes?

Who cares? You are spending too much energy worrying about nonsense. At the end of the day the best team will win. I come to these tournaments to watch my son play. Could not care any less about how the brackets line up or who plays who. Pay attention to the importance stuff, the rest is irrelevant.

There wasn’t much time left in the year, but you did it. densest reply of the year. They beat everyone by 12-13 goals, why not ask to play the better teams there. You should pay attention to the important stuff, always challenge yourself. You knew there was no challenge at the starting the day and you showed it at the end.

Who cares? You are spending too much energy worrying about nonsense. At the end of the day the best team will win. I come to these tournaments to watch my son play. Could not care any less about how the brackets line up or who plays who. Pay attention to the importance stuff, the rest is irrelevant.

Honestly, you never know what you’re getting with True National. Sometimes not enough kids travel. The last few times I’ve seen them they did not do well at tourneys. True is beginning to spread itself thin with all of their new teams. But I know what you’re saying. They certainly should not have played in the weakest bracket. Turtles are set up for another long season.

All of the top teams played in one bracket. True National should have been with them.

Important enough for you to take time out of your day to post an irrelevant post

I saw them there Saturday sons team played them second game and they looked very impressive I will also say I don't believe that they had more than 2/3 subs so that combined with the Fall Classic Sunday they probably only chose to play one day. I will say that Mesa and eclipse could be two surprise teams in this age group. I Amy also be wrong but I don't believe shore to shore and 91 are affiliated

Lost their faceoff kid with the crazy psycho dad. Now they are even worse. Strange thing is, the kid went to Turtles and still they can’t win a game. Oh well, example of the whole grass is greener not working out.

The guy can't be anymore crazy, psycho than some of the other parents on the sidelines. Why did he take his kid off of TB?
