Game Report from the Molloy Women's College Lacrosse Web Site

WOMEN'S LACROSSE DRUBS SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE, 15-7

OCEANSIDE, N.Y. (Apr. 13, 2013) - On Saturday, a total of nine different players scored at least one goal for the Lions to send the Molloy College women's lacrosse team to a 15-7 win versus Southern New Hampshire University in a non-conference duel at Oceanside High School in Oceanside, N.Y. Senior midfielder Kaitlynn Kelly (Rockville Centre, N.Y.), in her return to the alma mater, led the offensive charge with a game-high five points, off four goals and one assist.

Senior attacker Codi Reiser (Farmingdale, N.Y.) also tallied a five-point effort (2 G, 3 A) for the Lions. Senior midfielder Nicole Mastrianni (Seaford, N.Y.) and freshman midfielder Katie O'Brien (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) had two tallies apiece. Senior attacker Alexa Toscano (Bethpage, N.Y.) added a goal, and two helpers, for a three-point output.

Molloy (7-6) got off to a hot start in the contest, netting four of the first five markers in the opening 14:28 of play. Kelly started the scoring just 2:39 in with a free-position goal. Reiser pitched in a tally, and an assist, at the conclusion of the run. The Lions eventually headed into the break with a four-goal lead (6-2), as Kelly found the back of the cage at the 33-second mark.

In the second half, a quick tally by SNHU's (5-8) Adrianna Fratasio (Walpole, Mass.) cut the deficit to three. However, a 6-1 response by the maroon and white extended the advantage to a commanding 12-4, and clinched the win. Reiser registered a marker, and two assists in the burst. Kelly and Toscano each notched a goal, and a helper. O'Brien, Mastrianni and senior midfielder Christie Roell (Seaford, N.Y.) tickled the twine as well.

For the game, Molloy owned a 40-22 clip in shots, a 27-17 edge in ground balls, and a 13-11 margin in draws. In the cage, freshman goalie Caroline Winters (Baldwin, N.Y.) made eight saves for the Lions. Her counterpart, freshman Maria Ploof (Middlebury, Vt.), turned aside 17 shots for the Penmen.

Additionally, all proceeds from the contest benefited Hurricane Sandy relief.

Head Coach Tom Campolettano and his Molloy squad return to action Tuesday (Apr. 16), when they square off with East Coast Conference opponent Queens College in Flushing, N.Y. The opening draw is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Columbia University Pre-Game Announcement

On Saturday, April 13 at 3 p.m., the Columbia women's lacrosse team will host Yale as the main contest of the LAX Loves Long Island event at Oceanside High School in Oceanside, N.Y. Saturday's game will highlight the LAX Loves LI fundraiser initiative in hopes to raise $75,000 to benefit Oceanside Community Service and Island Harvest.
Tickets will be available on-site on Saturday. The suggested donation is $10 for adults and $5 for students.

Oceanside Community Service, which serves the towns in southern Nassau County, has raised and distributed more than $100,000 to victims of Hurricane Sandy to date.

“Our mission at Oceanside Community Service has always been to lend a hand to our neighbors in need. We won’t stop until everyone is back in their homes,” said Robert M. Transom, head of Oceanside Community Service and also a trustee on the Oceanside Schools Board Of Education.

Island Harvest is the largest hunger relief organization on Long Island. By relying on volunteers, in-kind services, and donated food, they devote more than 95 cents of every dollar contributed directly to their programs.
