I just googled these schools and GTown Visittaion tuition is 28k and Holton Arms Tuition is $$42,975 (includes snacks).. Holy $$$$ my goodness! Hey.. if you have it, why not??

Something tells me the 12th grade girls are talking about different things in the locker room than an 8th grade girl...do you really want your daughter directly exposed to that aspect of playing on Varsity as a 12/13 yr old with 17/18 yr olds???

Not in some schools. Parents play the game the right way with the coach and kids that weren't even impact players in middle school and play on low level club teams are being pulled up.

In many of these towns the kids know each other anyways. In other towns, there are related or parents have been friends for years. I think it is worse to be put on JV than varsity. At least on Varsity something is at stake on JV whats the difference records dont count for anything. They are closer in age so behavior differences arent seen as a WOW factor and maybe as a part of growing up.

It all depends on the school district ,strength of program, and sometimes the numbers. In most cases the kids getting pulled up deserve to be pulled up. although many bitter parents will always feel there kid deserved it too. If you have a good coach they will be able to identify the best players and players they feel are going to be a big part of their program whether or not they place them on JV or V. Yes, there are many things to consider if your child is being asked to play at the high school. Whether or not they are mature enough socially is also as important as their maturity physically. The people that come on here and are saying its because of who you know or people being related seem a little jealous to me. Bottom line is enjoy the ride, its only middle schoolers your talking about and they all have a long way to go.

you are right in the sense that it is only middle school and they have a long way to go. My friends daughter played as an 8th grader and she was very isolated. Why? Just let her play withkids her own age. Smaller district where there isn't a big pool to pull from I can see. In bigger districts they should have enough talent that they don't and shouldn't pull from middle schools. 8th graders are not ready. There is injury factors to consider too,

8th graders are more inclined to repeat and be impressed by the actions of the 9/10th graders. They feel more connected to them, more can go wrong on JV. They are more intimidated to do as the Seniors do, they may hear things but not repeat. It does depend on the player, but these MS girls are more advanced than you think and by advanced i mean mature and mentally secure. better to take the chance if you have it, then not.

In many schools the MS lets out after the the HS so they arnt exposed to as much locker room talk as you think.

if ATHLETICALLY SOCIAL AND PHYSICALLY MATURE and ready, always bring up. the above is nonsense about 8th graders not being ready, some are! Kids her own age? please, if lacrosse is her passion you do what is appropriate for your daughter if selected by the coach let her go for the 3 day "trail/tryout" what does that hurt. Although i dont think the 3 days is a wide enough trial period. Remember you only get better playing with and against better players. ( JV is only 1 or 2 years older. if a freshman or Soph on Varsity they arent playing their age either so their goes that theory)

as far as being Isolated, to what degree, if teammates isolate her completely and her play spoke for itself... the team had bigger issues. (either that or she didnt belong)

The other issue is when younger girl is bought up and is better than the Upper Class and resentment comes in. They have to be tough cookies to handle the extra pressure......

there is total resentment when an 8th grader taking the spot of a junior/senior. Its a lonely ride for them...not sure why push....but I haven't really ever seen stellar 8th graders play HS varsity lax. can't think of any that got much attention... the 50% rule must not really be enforced if they are playing

There is no rule that the girl can only play 4 years in a high school sport? I think in MD there is a rule that you can’t play 5 seasons...

There is that is why you would need the NYS APP waiver

The case in most of these situations, is that the school itself does not have enough bodies to play the sport. So they drain the pool of middle school girls. It’s simple math people

In Sayville, the coach brought up six 8th graders last year because they played on the assistant coach's YJ team. There was clearly an arrangement between the asst. coach and the parents that if they came to his team then he would bring them up. Now the assistant coach is gone and the varsity team is stuck with the girls. FYI; Last year their JV team beat their Varsity team in a scrimmage because the head coach overlooked a lot of talented girls. There will be some very unhappy parents when their kids lose their spots to the girls who should have been brought up last year. Talk about a disaster.

First off, 8th grade is 13/14. And what would they be on the team with only seniors? You are talking about varsity that has kids ranging in age from 13-18 yrs old. If you feel it best for your kid not to play up as an 8th grader, that's your choice. Or is it that you have a jr/sr that doesn't practice and you are afraid that the 8th grader is going to take her spot?

Lol at your puffing your chest and questioning my intentions in my post. My daughter is in 6th and plays for YJ 25, yes the good team... Just stating it is certainly a consideration I'd have if faced with that decision. Everyone else can do whatever they feel is best for their daughter. My point was I've heard people say they had overlooked that aspect of the decision and were only looking at size and skill to determine if their daughter belonged with the varsity group. Yes, physically girls may develop earlier but mentally they are still in 12-14 age in 8th...(and not too many 14's unless they are hold backs jocko).

LOL...YJ 25 "good team" now who's chest puffing, jacko. Kids on LI start to turn 14 come mid Dec of 2018 for 8th grade...come spring a lot of kids are 14....don't know

My daughter plays lacrosse in the spring she shouldn't have to practice in the off season for fear that an 8th grader will take her spot. 8th grade girls should play middle school.

Actually a good number of non hold backs who are " brought up' are 14 by the time lax season starts. If your daughter plays for the top YJ team you can bet that many of her teammates will be playing varsity while in middle school and it is an advantage lacrosse wise at a critical time. As far as the social aspect who exactly is playing on your high school team , is it filled with social misfits and kids that are having inappropriate conversations , if thats the case you may want to move out of the district. My daughter was moved up and had nothing but positive experiences , if your kid belongs there and they will help the team win the girls are very accepting of them. Nobody overlooks that aspect of moving their daughter up they just come to realize that whats on TV is far worse than what goes on at a high school girls lacrosse practice.

my 9th grader and most of his friends are only 14... my point of stating which yj team my daughter was on was to refute comment that I was probably worried some 8th grader was going to take my daughters spot... no such fears or cares. the best should play no matter the age. Raised a consideration about bringing 8th grade girls up. That's it. A consideration. There are of course many factors. You are angry. Regret your wife's wilting back tattoo? Daughter has cankles? Sarge isn't granting you enough OT? Must be something.

Catholic HS have the same 4 season rule

In Mass 8th graders can only play if the middle school is on the same campus as the high school.

The IAAM has a rule that says no middle school girls can play jv or V

Not true ony 4 of the girls who were brought to JV were on his YJ team, the others were from other teams. Coach is still there, just left his YJ coaching. No one is going to lose positions, because they graduated several senior starters and some girls are not coming back out for the team. Team still wont have a winning record with all those super freshman.

Super freshmen? Thanks for the scouting report mom. Any time Sayville is mentioned here it is in a negative manner. The coach must not be able to develop girls if he/she keeps bringing up 7th and 8th graders. That's why that program is completely irrelevant now and will be for the foreseeable future. Strong programs are built by exceptional coaches. Weak programs are brought down by incompetent ones.

My daughter is an 8th grader being brought up. She has been playing with the varsity team for over a year in tournaments and fits in well, and will most likely be a starter. This is where she belongs, she works extremely hard and we are proud of her accomplishments and bright future. Middle school would be a complete waste of time as it was last year, where she would be pulled for scoring too many goals. Not worried about the older girls one bit, they are a great bunch!

To the Sayville parent who wrote about the 8th grade girls being brought up you are out of your mind!!! Six girls were brought up and two went to Varsity and 4 went to JV. The two on varsity made large contributions to a team with all of 18 girls on it. The 4 on JV were the 4 best on the team and the JV would not have won many games if any without them. Those 6 girls bust their butt and play all year round!!! While your daughter and you complain that they are taking her deserved playing time without putting the time in herself!! Either that or you think just because your daughter is older she deserves to play, go scratch!!! I love parents who think that my angel plays so she deserves to start, nonsense!!! When you are in your pool or at the beach in the summer these girls are sweating their jerks off and playing top competition to get better!!! You want your daughter to play its very simple get BETTER!!!!!

Got to love the YJ Elite parents! Boy do they think they and their kids are entitled. Its terrible to root against children but it is a little refreshing when little Shannon shows up to HS and thinks because she is wearing YJ swag from head to toe that she is a guaranteed starter. Then some "athlete" that plays 3 sports a year shows up and takes her spot even though she doesn't play travel lax.

Spring sports start in March so what gives?

Carolina rules. Watch any ACC game and watch the outsiders lose every time. The mid-major was not going to be allowed to upset the tobacco cart.

you must be at a smaller school. good for her and youre lucky its a great bunch. not so in many towns. if it is a good fit....why not. but if its not why rebels it. most middle schoolers will sit on the bench

What everyone is forgetting about with these 8th graders is, we arent talking about all 8th graders just a dozen or so. I do agree some districts pull up uselessly, maybe club connections maybe family connections and others dont pull up and should. It goes both ways.

I do think the talented 8th graders should play JV and if they prove themselves on JV get pulled if if the need exists. Everyone is quick to say the coaches don't build a program, but by building you need a good farm system (JV team).

Maybe your superstar wouldn't be "pulled for scoring too many goals" if she passed the ball once in a while. I've never heard of a player being pulled for too many assists. GO TO GOAL!!!!

Maybe if you taught your daughter how to catch the ball, and not turn it over every time it's passed to her. My daughter loves to assist goals, just as much as scoring in fact. In middle school the talent level is too low for this to work, which is why certain girls should not be playing there. Sorry, just the truth.
