Here is the funny part. Ripley himself runs that account.

Amateur hour. Good luck coach Phipps.

Does Spalding play DeMatha this Spring? darn that was an A$$ kicking.

Blackwolf is not even better than Madlax Capital. BLACKWOLF, don't believe the hype. VLC won like 1 HOCO game the last two years. Madlax, best in NOVA.

Yeah but how did Evergreen do?

All the DMV teams did well at the Terrapin Fall Classic Playday:
Blackwolf 2-1 (loss to Patriot)
Madlax 3-0
MD Roughriders: 3-0
Next Level: 2-0-1 (tied Southshore)

A few other teams were undefeated also (Sweetlax FL, Iron Horse Dallas). Too bad they didn't have playoffs.

Strange playing these games on mini-fields carved out of baseball diamonds. Maplezone is nice for baseball. Not great for lacrosse past 6th grade.

Blackwolf, AKA Evergreen South, beat two teams that were a combined 1-7-1 for the weekend. Pretty impressive.

Their are some good teams listed fortunately for them they were scheduled against the lower end B/C of that age group. They would have played better competition playing local at the Battle of the Bay or the Terps Playday a few weeks ago and saved some time and $$.

Why don't more fall events include playoffs? Do most people really prefer a playday? Who wouldn't want to see the best teams challenge each other?

This is now the HS age. Just a year or two ago these kids were deep in recruiting and the purpose of tournaments was to showcase. Winning a t-shirt is for Middle School Aloha tournaments.

Well the truth about this is these tournaments at 9th grade and above are to make the college coaches happy not the who has a better team crowed. This format allows the college coaches to see the best teams/ players on their schedule so they can plan ahead. You can really see it at the larger tournaments. There might be 8 fields with 11th grade teams playing but only two of the games has 10 or more college coaches. In a playoff format they would have to stay all day maybe to see this matchup they really came to see. Here is another bit of info people do not really know. The coaches have a list before they show up and they plan their day around that list of kids they are coming to see. They will make notes and add names true but most of the time they see the kid they came to see and move on to another game or tournament.

Its about the money (give backs, you scratch mine, I'll scratch yours) from the Club Owners, Greater BW private school players are better off playing for their high school teams and bagging club fees. You're not getting what you pay for parents: you're getting ripped off......But alas, you're only sheep... And don't feed me the recruiting fear stuff: I'm more experienced than you... With the recruiting window having been pushed back two full years and high schools playing more in the summer and fall, club matters less and less. Yes you are fighting the last war (out dated strategy, tactics and weapons).

But wouldn’t the coaches want to see how the kids did against decent competition? A lot of these games were 13-0. A playoff would be a better showcase.

Aren’t the teams in the same club? Hold a scrimmage and find out.

Couldn’t beat the Richmond Hawks today so I would say it’s doubtful.

Based on scores today, I’d say so.
DC Dogs 2-1
Madlax 0-2-1

Not a great day for most DMV teams at NAL
DC Express 1-2
Hawks 2-1

Those teams played teams at different levels of play. Can't compare based on yesterdays results. Just line them up and play.

Easy on DC Express--like many teams missing key players for football and now hoop. They did show up well in last game beating LI Express by several. This team will be very good when all the pieces are in place.

The 3-0 teams really should have played each other at NAL - Sweetlax FL, Juiced Cherries, Igloo, Richmond Hawks, LI Express, and Predators.

Some of these teams really benefited from being in a week division.

Hawks had three good games but dropped a tough one versus the LI Express Chan by a goal. Fall ball is about evaluating players and experimenting as a coaching staff especially in a play day format (no playoffs or championships). Many kids are coming off of fall sports and may already be involved in winter sports so these fall tournaments are more for brushing off cobwebs and evaluating where kids are athletically versus winning every game. Every high school and college coach will tell you the same thing: Rec and club coaches don't always have this developmental perspective.

If you want to evaluate players and experiment, call up some of the local teams and play each other. It's a lot cheaper and more flexible than paying a ton of money and traveling all over the place to a big event only to play a couple random teams. If you are going to bring all these teams together from all across the county, have a playoff.

I get that you may not have you best kids available and playing at their best, but most of the summer teams change their line ups week to week also, but they still have playoffs.

I think you are really missing the point of why these events are created. Not that long ago 2022 class (Freshman) would be in the thick of recruiting. As it stands they are just getting started. As they boys move forward, most event are there for coaches to evaluate players who are already on the radar through recommendations, emails, showcases, camps...Have your son start emailing coaches and let them know the schedule. The larger the event and more teams = more coaches will attend to see more players. At this level and moving forward, winning t-shirts and bragging rights just is not as important as it was in middle school.

Don't disagree with your logic or rationale but you've missed the crux of the tournament decision making process. The venue choice is driven by club owners' economics. The cabal fully understands higher annual club fees equals a higher cut off off the top. How can I charge my clientele a high annual fee if I'm setting up inexpensive scrimmages at convenient times and locations with local opponents? If you truly believe the market is free of collusion, I have some swamp land in FL I would like to sell to you. God knows, every beneficiary of the current state of affairs (owners and club coaches) will get on this forum to deny this less than pure motivation but alas its true.

Ok, if 3 of the top 6 2022 programs nationally were playing last Sunday in DE and there are zero D1 coaches or assistants watching them was this A) a mirage, B) a failure by the boys to adequately market themselves or C) the D1 coaches aren't really interested in the 2022s yet unless they're actually getting paid to watch /"coach".

If you want to evaluate players and experiment, call up some of the local teams and play each other. It's a lot cheaper and more flexible than paying a ton of money and traveling all over the place to a big event only to play a couple random teams. If you are going to bring all these teams together from all across the county, have a playoff.

Except that coaches are not evaluating or even interested in 2022s at this point. How many coaches did you see watching any of the 2022 games on Sunday at NALFI? Right, so why no playoffs?

So if playoffs then Hawks don’t make it knock out in pool play.

If playoffs, they probably spread the top teams around instead of stacking one pool.
