Which of the above teams are filled with holdbacks?

I know express north has a few holdbacks, 2 way as well , not sure about PT

In the 2024 bracket, most of the better teams have a few holdbacks but these holdbacks won’t play in the WSYL tournament (too old). However, the teams won’t cut them because they want these older holdbacks for next year when age doesn’t matter. Only WSYL checks birth dates.

The problem gets worse in the recruiting years for these teams. They dump most of the on-age kids to take lots of holdbacks and a few connected kids (friends and family of coaches and directors). The teams will do anything to show that they are elite & recruiting powerhouses and this means taking one or two year holdbacks.

We all know top teams flooded with holdbacks. Teams aren't too bashful about it though it is an ugly little mark they prefer no one inspect. 7th grade year funny with WSYL means teams bench holdbacks for a few months, scramble for on-age talent if they didn't plan well, and then go back to holdbacks for 8th.

WSYL is best way to prove which teams are the best in many ways. PT has proven they can thrive no matter what, and so have Preds now. Eclipse very year-to-year. Express North last year showed that were a whole other team without older kids. 2Way older teams all prep holdbacks but younger teams flounder.

2024 team would be younger, no? so how are there monsters on the 2023 team?

I think the landscape is changing and has changed drastically in Westchester- 5 years ago, the best players had to play for PT OR Superstars , now you have 2-5 other choices. if you live down county or Greenwich , why drive 40 mins to john Jay or H School when you can play for Preds or 2 way etc ....

2way can’t field a 2024 WSYL team with its current roster.
The dirty secret is the team is mostly holdbacks.

Curious...if we are all interested in the best for our kids and most influential adults I know couldn't care less about the results of a made for TV youth lacrosse tourney why is a 13 year old playing vs. a 12 year old so bad? Most boys even out physically after puberty so what's the big deal?

It is not a secret. There is tryout for 2way ws team. It will be the 3 of age 24’s, kids from 2way north and the 25’s that are holdbacks. Age doesn’t matter in this sport. Sooner everyone accepts that the better.

At this point, there are so many teams with reclassed kids that everybody will end up playing kids their own age anyway. When you are one of the few teams doing it, then there is a distinct advantage, now that it is commonplace, there seems to be no point

Well I suppose the upside on that theory is that your son will be driving himself to practice soon and voting in 2020.

2Way did good in WSYL last year but didn't qualify. This year they are supposed to have more holdbacks which means WSYL team will do worse. The 2way north teams are awful.

Any coach or program director advocating a parent hold a kid back is giving bad advice. I know of a number of kids who suffered socially and it changed their personalities and parents came to regret the decision. Think twice people.

So much drama in westchester for irrelevant 2024 teams. 2way which I’ve never heard of lost to a 2025 team. Express north and all the Schreiber yelling is embarrassing. Well see how PT and EN do in Delaware in a couple weeks. Guessing not good.

I’m I reading this accurately, that there are only three eligible “0n age” kids on 2024 2way?

if that is true that is sad. They lost to a 2025 team full of 10/11 year olds and it wasn't even close

the number of kids committed the last 3 years to div 1 schools is greater at Express North than Prime Time, not including this year

Maybe there is something to all his yelling after all. I thought coaches had more input into recruiting?

The guy can yell with the best of them. But my personal observations are that , through all that yelling is a man that cares about these boys and he will fight for those boys come crunch time. I can’t say that about Daniello as evidenced by the way he treats most people.

I think Schreiber has a bit more credibility with college coaches, he has played at a very high level, where as Daniello never really played at that level, not sure if that helps or not . Prime Time seems to have more than their fair share of top players going to top schools

Dude, it's sad you can't see you're part of the problem not th solution. Best players should always play up not down!

At the tryout last fall first thing Schreiber said to all the parents if you can have your son get left back do it.

It’s not parents fault. It’s the entire club lacrosse world. 7th, 8th 9th grade teams are constantly cutting on age kids for older holdbacks. Happens every single year. Until you get a world where that doesn’t exist, it will never change. That said, this specific boy is more than big enough to stay on age.

Look to be doing ok. 3 2020 commits so far. Penn Dartmouth Colgate. Preds seem to be getting better and better every year.

Preds does fine with recruiting. They have their own show case that is successful which keeps the Pred's name in front of college coaches and allows Preds coaches to network with college coaches. Preds coaches are well connected and support their players in the recruiting process. They are also a great source of information to parents and players. If their player is good enough, they can generally get that player into the better individual showcases. The best thing about Preds is their coaching. Kids coming out of that program have received great coaching. They know the game well, are coachable, know what it means to be a team player and what it takes to play at the college level. College coaches know that.

If your child is good enough though, college coaches will find him. Have your kids play for the team that gives them the most joy. That way they will come to love the game and excel at it. If they don’t love the game, they won’t succeed at the college level. College lacrosse is a lot of hard work and sacrifice. There is little time for anything other than lacrosse and school.

With the Preds, it really depends on the class year. If your child is on the 2020 team or previous 2017 team, they will get a ton of attention from the Preds organization. The 2019 class has been largely ignored by the Preds organization. As an example, a few 2019 Preds have committed to good D3 schools but no shout out from Preds on social media. As soon as one of the 2020 commits, instantaneous post.

They probably don't view D3 commits as marketable as D1, which is a shame. Too many kids regret the decision which is driven by peers, coaches, programs, etc. Kids need to think about education first, having SOME free time to be a college student, playing time expectations, etc. I hve two sons, one in a midlevel D1 program and my little guy is going to great D3 school and playing lacrosse there. Find the best fit.

Preds cleaned up down in PA obviously not the same competition in LI but a great win. PT had trouble against bandits, but had a good day.

I think the big guy's yelling causes players to be timid, afraid to make a mistake. Kids should be playing with confidence and that's not the environment he creates. I've heard him yell more than once when he was wrong. Just counter productive.
