Just play and don’t overthink it.. None of these tournaments enforce their rules 100%. I know 3 kids who were not age eligible but still played on WSYL teams in Denver. MM tourney was good with fantastic teams battling all weekend. The Monday morning complaining does not do much and is pretty boring.

Yes they used to be Club Blue. Very solid, well coached team. One of the only ones who would meet the tournament “criteria”. Congrats to them on winning

"Submit a complete roster by Jan 15, 2018. Roster must include players number, full name, school, and birthdate."

Great job by DC Dogs but even according to this rule the MadLax team was not eligible as it was not a team in January. They had "tryouts" in May how could they have a roster in January? The Madlax capital team was going to play along with Club Blue. Does not say much for Madlax when they cannot coach up a team but have to import a team to win.

So a club with only one or two teams wants to join a larger club to help the players on their team how is this a bad thing? Would it been better if they just called themselves Madlax Cap. not DC dogs. Please tell us how this old Club Blue team should of handled this? They could of just all showed up at Madlax tryouts and beat out all the kids already on the Cap team. Would that been ok with you?

Not mad at the DC Dogs at all... good kids and good team. But why hold other teams accountable for "the rules" and not DC Dogs? My issue is with MM - not the Dogs.

I agree that DC Dogs are a good team and it is great to see a DC team with kids from MD and a few VA kids win this tournament. Club Blue would have also won this tournament as the Hawks were not there. I still think this does not show well for Madlax that kids who have played for Capital for many years are now replaced by a whole other team. Meanwhile the old Capital '23 team played in a B tournament this weekend and lost to every 3d team. This does not say much for the clubs ability to develop players.

Exactly! You do not get to pick and chose who follows the rules.

yes but you have to admit the 15-yr old Mater Dei holdbacks help a lot.

was wondering how old they were, each team had some big kids but they seemed to more than everyone.

I give MM credit for calling True out, that was a BS move trying to add kids just for the weekend.

Thanks for the feedback MM. I heard True had some injuries. That was the reason for the additions. Supposedly they were cleared before the tournament. It wasn't until MM saw who it was that there was a problem. Again... why could the other True additions play? why was his 2022 son allowed to play? Why were guest players allowed to play for BLC, Freedom, LIE, and others? ONE KID kicked out? Seems fishy. Did anybody else lose players to MM?

The reason there is such backlash in taking this good kid off of the field is because many other teams had Guest players and nothing was done. You do not get to pick and chose nor do you make a spectacle when children are involved. Youth lacrosse has turned in to nothing but money and vendettas for Club owners. Parents should get together and start their own teams. Have the boys who just want to play do so. You would most likely beat all of the club teams!
These are supposed to be fun years for a Child. Not practicing 4 days a week, Tournaments every weekend. Kids are told they can’t even play other sports or attend important events. They may be kicked off a team or lose their starting spot. For what?! Why would parents even allow someone to even dictate this. Can’t wait for this sport to implode along with all of the Club owners. Time for some regulations!

Agreed. A minority of jerks are controlling a majority of families. Yet everyone seemingly goes along with it all because otherwise you are off a good team and, of course, there goes your college offer. Everyone seems to want USL to do anything about this. They won't. College, prep and club coaches have the power and they love all this. Age restrictions would solve a lot. But also the $ makers.

If any high school or college turns down a great player because some jerk club owner tries to give them a bad reputation then consider yourself lucky. Ask yourself would you actually want your child to play for someone who judges a middle school kid? I think it’s pathetic to actually let your kid endure abuse from a coach for the hopes of a high school scholarship! Yes, the way these kids are treated is abusive. You would never stand for anyone to talk to you in the way these kids are talked to yet we allow it to happen to kids. I know a lot of College coaches and they wouldn’t hold the opinion of many of the Club owners to a high standard. Be a good person first and foremost then from there do your best. If you are a a good player than the right coach will take notice.

Injuries?? C'mon! They had a ton of kids on the squad and 3 of them made the all-tourney team. They got caught and their defense is to point fingers and say other teams are doing it also? Sad

Not a Freedom parent, but my son's team plays them often, and I see them at a lot of tournaments - to be honest, most of those kids are with the team throughout the spring and summer. I know that some travel pretty far to play, which raises the issue of whether they are really a "national" team, and there are some questions as to age, but it would be unfair to suggest that they do not have some level of consistency with their roster. I am not suggesting that they do not bring in players, I know that they do because the kids have acknowledged it, but it seems like Freedom is the not the worst of the bunch. Frankly, I don't really care what they do, I would rather play a tough game and lose to the likes of Freedom as opposed to playing some of the bad teams with lousy parents that show up at some of these tournaments.

Your coaches poached the top kids off the Dukes team to play for what is a local philly team. Wait, then the same coaches ranted and raved to MM and got the hawks kids thrown off the True team right before you played them. Whatever it takes to win! not to mention the hypocrisy of it all.

Don't add kids the week/day before, and if you do, at least put them on the roster that you turn in. Brotherly Love added the kid that was 1st team all tournament on attack, but at least they put him on the roster. Blame your coach for not turning in a roster that has the kids playing on it. DC Dogs hammered True anyway.

At this age group, 18-19 is a good roster size, 21 is pushing it. At many of these tournaments I have seen rosters of 26-to 28 and three goalies. Now this did not happen in my son's case but if they bring in "guest" players at the expense of playing time to players who have been on the team paying full price, time to switch teams. Next year is a big year and tryouts are in August. Ask the team ownership or follow which teams use guest players. Good to see teams like Hawks and DC dogs compete with local players who stick together. There was a post on here earlier about how Hawks run a Zone and it is bad for player development which I completely disagree with. However, what is far worse for developing lax IQ is guest players who are not given time to learn team concepts. I think it is pathetic that knowledgeable coaches who know better care more about a 7th grade fictional championship them developing players for the next level.

Our team played them and saw them at tournaments and spring league all year year long. Definitely out of state kids, but the same ones. They didn't even win so what are you crying about?

So if you put the 15 year old on your roster your ok but bring in some kid non roster it’s not ok? Youth lacrosse is rediculous.

Hogan is the new king of Maryland youth lacrosse - best teams, best tournaments, etc. Look at 2023. Owns Crabs and RM. Dominant team. Naptown destroyed Young Guns. Look for the best remaining Crabs to tryout for Hawks.

One is fully committed to Dematha. Other is already a 2023 but will stay up with 2022. He will go up to 2021 before ever playing 2023

Well this old timer will tell you these things go in cycles and the Hawks are always good just like the other classic clubs in the area. But the history will tell you that each of these top clubs will be great at one or two grade/ age groups and just good at the others. Do not sleep on the tricks of these veteran club owners they will make the weak teams under them better they always do. If I had a dollar for every time I heard Club X is dead at this age I would be rich.

Someone trying to start rumors. Wait a few minutes and they will respond to their own post. Worry about your own team but more importantly focus on your own kid.

Or he is one of the dads everyone wanted to get away from after the 6th grade season when half the team left to set in motion the downward spiral

I was standing there when our coaches discussed this with the tournament organizers after another one of our parents noticed the kid who was NOT on the True team, but rather a Hawks player. Turns out the kid was not on the roster at all, which is completely contrary to the rules of the tournament. This was done before any games were played rather than WAIT and bring it up after the games were played and have True end up forfeiting their games. Seems like a relatively fair way to do it for everyone.

DC Dogs hammered True anyway.
Way I heard it they had a 1st team all-tournament defenseman who wasn't legit. The name was on their roster, but the player wasn't actually the name on the roster.

Or maybe one of the dads that left to get away from the parents who always complain about their son's playing time. Or, maybe this is all speculation. In the end you really should worry about your own kid and stop worrying about other people and what they do.
