My initial thoughts ... BC too high. They were an ok team until Kenzie Kent joined midseason. She is not playing this year. BC is no better than 10 without her. SB is not the #2 team in the country, particularly w the 3-second rule back to a major foul. Will be hard to know with their cream puff schedule, but they r more like top 8. Navy caught lightening in a bottle last year. Great for them. Not a top ten team.

The rules are going to hurt stony brook but they are playing a bunch of top 25 teams USC Stanford, NW, Towson, Hopkins Cornell Penn State Albany. I think we will all continue to see that after the top handful of teams the sports talent level falls off a cliff. If you had to wager would you take Maryland and UNC against the rest of the field? I wouldn't wager against Maryland or UNC winning again, but I'd root for them to lose. My best bet for another team to win it all would be from this group: USC, Northwestern, Penn St, Florida (although Florida always seems to get out coached)

SB doesn't have a cupcake schedule this year, 8 teams ranked on this list, as opposed to 10 for Maryland. Sb is playing its toughest schedule in program history. Could probably be a little tougher, but definitely improved from last few seasons.

Ranking are just that, meant for conjecture and discussion. Means little else otherwise. Injuries, Freshman development etc, are unknown factors that cannot be factored into pre-season rankings.

it would be good for the sport for a heavy underdog to win over a UNC and Maryland. Game is stale and needs some excitement in the top 20

You are dead wrong about stony brook my daughter’s team played them in the fall they are awesome and are definitely deserving of #2 and may win it all. Penn State who was in the same tournament is frankly overranked at 6.

That's pretty funny, maybe its time for them to start actually recruiting and running their programs the way the rest of the top teams do. Loyola does nothing all year, 1-2 camps and gets the third tier Maryland players, Hopkins and Towson not much better - this trio has all been living off their reputations for the last several years and they know they have jobs for life so they don't seem to care all that much about getting better

The only reason 21-25 are on the list is reputation, these list's typically only list top 20 teams, but heaven forbid lax royalty didn't get a mention

Sorry but Stony Brook has an excellent coach who knows how to win but are the least athletic top team out there. Compared to the other top teams their midfield will struggle and do not think their freshman class is going to contribute much. I think they have a chance to beat any team but to win it all they are going to have to win too many difficult games in a row. Until someone beats MD they are the top but if you are looking for a non UNC -MD team I would go with Florida .

Kent IS playing this year

Stony Brook has come on strong the past several years and will be very good again this year. They have improved their strength of schedule the past couple of years and I guess bumped it up even more this year. Last year they had some strong programs on the schedule but where and when the games were played was very favorable for them. Good Coach and some great players but #2 might be a little high (but not much).

MD and UNC will be very good (real surprise) Florida and Boston College should contend for a final 4 spot as well. Penn State might slip a bit and not sure Navy will make it again. Syracuse, Northwestern and Princeton also have potential to earn a spot in the final 4.

2 - North Carolina
3 - Florida
4 - Boston College
5 - Stony Brook
6 - Southern Cal
7 - Syracuse
8 - Northwestern
9 - Princeton
10 - Penn State

Depending on how the seedings work out I think we will see Stony Brook, Florida and Maryland in the final 4. Would like to seeSouthern Cal make it as well.

USC is simply just not deep enough to win enough hard games in a row to make the finals . Good coaching and a team that can beat anyone but also a team that can lose to anyone . Any injury to a starter is too much to overcome while the top programs go with next player up and don't skip a beat .They are really just a lesser Stony Brook .

BC will slip this year. Kenzie Kent is red-shirting. Team should bounce back the following year with a strong 2018 recruiting class and Appuzzo and Kent as seniors.

My understanding, like the poster above, is that Kent is redshirtting lacrosse this year. According to a tweet by IL just yesterday though, It may still be up in the air.

Two of the black holes were MIA last game and what a difference it made. The girls actually played together and looked like a team. It was nice to see.

That’s a silly statement given they way last year played out and with a lot of frosh playing major roles this year. I saw a team not on the list play 2 of these top 10 teams pretty even at a tourney this fall. Doesn’t mean they even deserve to be top 25, but it’s more open than 5. It’s probably more than 10 depending on injuries.

No chance .I would easily take UNC and Maryland against the field .

Unfortunately I have to agree with this. If they stay healthy, I think Northwestern has an outside chance. They have some firepower upfront w Lasota, Stroup, Kinna (3 Canadian National Team players) and Fredericks. Fredericks on the draw is a magician. Nesselbush is back from knee injury. They are strong on the back end with Quinn, Mueller & Copeland. It may come down to whether they get consistent play out Weiss in goal. But if they can avoid major injuries, which have crushed them the last few years, they have a punchers chance.

Navy, a team that could have been knocked out by Penn in the first round could have easily been in the finals.

This year the following have a legit chance to get to the Final Four

Also, Duke is ranked pretty low. They might be able to surprise some teams.

We all know who the favorites are but there are others who can make it to the Final Four.

Exactly. FYI Lehigh was up 9-8 on Navy with 5 to go in Patriot league semis and a great ending started Navy’s run. These girls are a lot closer than you think and I’ve seen first hand especially this fall at my daughter’s tournaments. 10 teams have legit shots. Don’t discount home field and SB looks real determined. PSU is Down is down tad my eyes.

Daughter plays for a rival but SB is absolutely loaded and returns most starters. They will be very very good. To say they have no chance discounts (your agenda) your argument because they clearly are good enough. Hope I'm wrong here but they will be a tough out
