UMBC has released its schedule for the 2018 season. Here is a breakdown of the slate that awaits the Retrievers, who went 6-8 last year and finished second in the America East after back-to-back sixth-place showings in 2015 and 2016.

10: UMBC could return five players who scored at least 10 points last spring. They are junior midfielder Billy Nolan (24 points), junior attackman Jack Andrews (23), sophomore attackman Ryan Frawley (21), senior midfielder Max Haldeman (10) and sophomore midfielder Mitch Howell (10).

9: The Retrievers were 4-0 in games last year in which they scored at least nine goals. Conversely, they were 1-7 when they gave up nine goals.

8: For the fifth time in the past eight seasons, UMBC will end the regular season away from Catonsville. The team is also scheduled to hit the road for six games for the third time in the past five years.

7: Seven players started all 14 games for the Retrievers last season. And nine players started eight games or more.

6: UMBC has dropped its past six season openers. The last time the program opened a season with a victory was 2011 when that squad defeated Presbyterian, 16-10.

5: For the fifth time in six years, the Retrievers will embark on a road swing of at least three games. They are scheduled to travel to Navy on Feb. 17, Mount St. Mary’s on Feb. 23 and Towson on March 3.

4: UMBC will enjoy a four-game homestand for the first time since 2014 when that squad welcomed Monmouth, Richmond, Johns Hopkins and Mercer in succession. Marist will visit on March 10, Johns Hopkins on March 13, Stony Brook on March 18 and Michigan on March 24.

3: The Retrievers are scheduled to meet three teams that qualified for last year’s NCAA tournament. They will clash with Towson before welcoming Johns Hopkins and America East champion Albany on April 7.

2: UMBC graduated only two starters from last season’s squad. They were attackman Max Maxwell (18 goals and 21 assists) and goalkeeper Ruston Souder (9.00 goals-against average and .496 save percentage).

1: The Retrievers will play host to Michigan at UMBC Stadium for the first time. Last spring, the two sides played for the first time with the Wolverines collecting a 10-7 win March 25.
